Friday Open Thread

Posted on April 24, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

What’s on your mind this Friday?

What do you think were the most important things that happened this week, and what were the things the media distracted Americans with?

What are some things you learned about ACORN this week that you didn’t know before?  We ask, because we honestly believe ACORN is COBRA, K.A.O.S., S.P.E.C.T.R.E., whatever you would have called it, in whatever generation-specific cartoon or movie you grew up with, where a villainous organization attempts to undermine American democracy while most Americans fail to take them seriously.

After what we witnessed in Iowa, Texas, Ohio, and Indiana, with our own eyes, in terms of rampant voter fraud during the primaries and general election, we believe ACORN is a bigger threat to America than Al Queda, the Taliban, the Somali pirates, and many other fringe groups combined.  ACORN is here, on US soil, and is being funded by the US government, with the goal of bringing down said government.  That’s like Romulus Augustus sending arms and monies to the barbarians at Rome’s gate, while the last of the ancient Romans did nothing to prevent their world’s demise.

Well, we want to take ACORN on.  Every day, we get a little closer to figuring out how to do this, since no one else out there that we know of seems to want to do anything about them.

We need to rile up people in the caucus states, especially, to agitate for changes that will keep ACORN from pushing forward a Republican candidate who can’t beat the incumbent President in 2012. That seems to be the plan: for the MSM to cajole Bobby Jindal or Mike Huckabee to run in 2012, and then ACORN would seal the deal by rigging the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary so that Jindal or Huckabee is the Republican nominee, guaranteeing a second term for “The One”.  We believe Sarah Palin, Mark Sanford, and maybe Mitt Romney could wipe the floor with “The One” in four years — but Jindal and Huckabee would be toast, for varying reasons.  The demonization of Governor Palin should give you an idea who ACORN and the Left thinks is the real threat on the horizon for “The One”.  The fawning over Jindal should tell you who the Washington General is to the Left’s perceived Globetrotter.

We have less than four years to stop ACORN from rigging the Iowa caucus and influencing the Republican primaries.  This weekend, we’d love for you to brainstorm and try to come up with ways we can join with other Democrats, Independents, Republicans, and others in this country to stop ACORN once and for all.

Another week Chicago politics infects Alaska. No offense guys.
Another week, another “Ethics” complaint filed, another Levi interview. All designed to slowly bleed the good Governor of the great north.Through all of these interviews with this Bristol’s former beau, nobody is asking him who the hell is paying him!
How is it that an unemployed teenager, his loser sister, and his medicated mother are flying around the lower 48, staying in swanky hotel rooms.
I can’t even afford to go Vegas, which is driving distance for me, and I have a job.

All so she can be demonized as “The Governor with the most ethics complaints.” Nevermind that these are ankle-biting, frivolous wastes of the taxpayers’ money. It’s all about the meme.

It’s what they did to Gingrich in the 90s, hitting him with over 70 ethics complaints, all but one of which were thrown out. It didn’t matter if he was innocent, the complaints were a means unto themselves.

The big buzz in Big Sky Country is the effort by the City of Hardin, Montana, to entice the feds to ship the Gitmo prisoners to their brand-new, heretofore unoccupied jail facility.

    http://2helenahandbaskets.com/

There are a lot of reasons that this isn’t such a great idea, but high on the list should be the inherent increase in the level of torture that will be imposed on those poor terrorists when they are moved from the tropical beachfront property they now inhabit to the wilds of a southeast Montana Indian Reservation where the daytime temperature today won’t even hit 40 degrees.

Why, the UN and the International Whiney Do-Gooders will be beside themselves in angst over the inhumane treatment of these misunderstood miscreants.

But everybody’s got to be somewhere right?

She experienced ACORN corruption at her caucus, too.

Did you folks hear that the FDIC is now insuring GE and Caterpillar? We now have government hands, at our expense, slowing taking over. The head of GE and Caterpillar are strangely connected to Obama and his team. This IS AN INTENTIONAL PLAN….. this IS SCARY!!!

By the way, I quit buying GE products a few years ago when my new dishwasher blew the motor three times in less than two years and the company refused to replace it again. (My local store said it was a common problem.) No wonder they are failing. (My Maytag has run with no problems for four years now.)

Yeah…here’s another thought I heard on Fox this morning…if Chrysler, GM, etc. go bankrupt (which the Obama Treasury Dept. is sure to force them to do..) then all the bailout (taxpayer money) is lost and will never be repaid. So, who received those funds actually? It sure wasn’t all of the workers who will be laid off? And since, like you said, the heads of these are connected to Obama and it is intentional…what is going on? Go to youtube and you can watch THE OBAMA DECEPTION movie for free…please watch it..it makes a lot of sense and you can see so much of what this movie claims happening.

If the Govt. received preferred stock in exchange for the bailout funds, then technically speaking, they *might* get money back if GM does go bankrupt. Bondholders get paid first, then preferred stock, then common stock. But if there’s not enough money to satisfy all parties then that money is lost.

        What a sham huh?

    Swine Flu???
Now the 1970s rerun is complete.

Seven People in California, Texas Hit by Strange New Swine Flu

US medical authorities expressed strong concern Friday about an unprecedented multi-strain swine flu outbreak that has killed at least 60 people in Mexico and infected seven people in the United States.

“It’s very obvious that we are very concerned. We’ve stood up emergency operation centers,” Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) spokesman Dave Daigle told AFP.

One major source of concern was that the virus included strains from different types of flu.

Mexico Shuts Some Schools Amid Deadly Flu Outbreak
BuzzPermalinkBy MARC LACEY and DONALD G. McNEIL Jr.
      Published: April 24, 2009 (NYT-ick)
MEXICO CITY — Mexican officials, scrambling to control a swine flu outbreak that has killed at least 16 people and possibly dozens more in recent weeks, shuttered schools from kindergarten to university for millions of young people in and around the capital on Friday and urged people with flu symptoms to stay home from work.

“We’re dealing with a new flu virus that constitutes a respiratory epidemic that so far is controllable,” Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova told reporters… He said the virus had mutated from pigs and had at some point been transmitted to humans.

Mexico’s flu season is usually over by now, but health officials have noticed a significant spike in flu cases. The World Health Organization reported about 800 cases of flu-like symptoms in Mexico in recent weeks, most of them among healthy young adults, with 57 deaths in Mexico City and 3 in central Mexico.

That is a worrisome pattern because seasonal flus typically cause most of their deaths among infants and old people, while pandemic flus — like the 1918 Spanish flu, and the 1957 and 1968 pandemics — often strike young, healthy people the hardest.

Doctors believe that is because young adults have more vigorous immune systems — which mount an assault on the new virus known as a “cytokine storm” — that may actually overwhelm the victim’s own lungs by causing inflammation and drawing in fluid.

It was clear that Mexican health officials were alarmed. Besides shutting classes, the government urged people to avoid large gatherings and to refrain from the common greetings of a hand shake or kiss on the cheek….

Health officials in the United States were working to determine whether the Mexican outbreak was tied to the unusual strain of swine flu that has been circulating among people in the American Southwest but is not known to have caused any deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The agency, which has found only seven cases in the United States, expects to find more now that it has begun looking intensively for them.
[There are tons of illegals here in AZ, sneaking thru daily--egads!]

“We don’t yet know the extent of the problem,” said Dr. Anne Schuchat, the director of respiratory diseases for the agency, “but we don’t think this is a time for major concern.”

Five of the people infected were in Imperial and San Diego Counties in California and two were in San Antonio. They were 9 to 54 years old. None had any contact with pigs, and in two sets of cases — involving a father and daughter and two 16-year-old schoolmates — those infected had contact with each other. That convinced the authorities that the virus was being transmitted from person to person.

The seven people were apparently infected from late March to mid-April. Only one was hospitalized, and all recovered…

WASHINGTON, April 24 (Reuters) – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday it was too late to contain the swine flu outbreak in the United States.

CDC acting director Dr. Richard Besser told reporters in a telephone briefing it was likely too late to try to contain the outbreak, by vaccinating, treating or isolating people.

“There are things that we see that suggest that containment is not very likely,” he said.

He said the U.S. cases and Mexican cases are likely the same virus. “So far the genetic elements that we have looked at are the same.” But Besser said it was unclear why the virus was causing so many deaths in deaths in Mexico and such mild disease in the United States.

HB men: I started this morning the same as I have for the past week: sitting at my computer with my head in my hands, crying, and feeling overwhelmed with, well, everything, especially trying to get the proper care for my brother Johnny (aka Guppy)here in AZ.

Then I finally sucked it up (snot, tears, self-pity) and decided to open my e-mail, hoping there’d be word of freelance work or a Secret Santa–type philanthropist writing to say that s/he was going to help me start the Bliss Ranch Foundation or he saw my picture online and read my posts on various political blogs and has fallen in love with me and will be riding in on a white horse today to end all my troubles (OK, even I’m gagging).

But I got something that means just as much to me (more, in many ways): an e-mail from a certain beloved HillBuzz man that made my day, my year, my miserable life worthwhile. Combined with e-mails from a certain HB poster (MIA!!!!), I AM RENEWED!

    I smiled.

I feel hopeful again…about everything. And the combined effects of the sentiments in those e-mails even somehow jogged my memory as to where I’d put that two-pound hunk of information about ACORN, etc., that I’d printed out from Dr. Long’s caucus-fraud site last September.

On the top of the pile sits this: “Written testimony of James Terry, Chief Public Advocate, Consumer Rights League. Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties and House Administration Subcommittee on Elections. Joint Hearing on Federal, State, and Local Efforts to Prepare for the General 2008 Election. Wednesday, September 24, 2008, 10:00 a.m., 2141 Rayburn House Office Buliding.”

The following 12 pages of this one document are the transcript of Terry’s testimony to–get this–Conyers, Lofgren, Franks, and McCarthy about the documented sins of ACORN. NOTHING WAS DONE TO STOP THEM.

Included in this hunk of paper that I printed out and studied for my guest spot on KNPR’s “State of Nevada,” (Sept 29, ’08) at which I was made the fool by the host who lied to me, is much more info about ACORN, about Bobo’s ACORN training camp, a printout from the Dem Party constitution the rule that they violated at the RBC meeting, and so much more.

Sadly, the hunk-’o'-paper even includes a Newsbusters piece by Rusty Weiss, in which he discusses an article by Nicholas Provenzo (a blight on Italians and all humans everywhere), a writer for Center for the Advancement of Capitalism, who suggests that Sarah Palin’s decision to give birth to a child with Down syndrome is “a financial burder that others are forced to suffer with.” He says it’s “crucial to reaffirm the morality of aborting a fetus diagnosed with Down syndrome (or by extension, any unborn fetus)–a freedom that anti-abortion advocates seek to deny.”

(I think Nicholas Provenzo should’ve been aborted, but then I’ve never claimed to be spiritually evolved….)

I’m in no position to do anything with this information. What little energy and few brain cells I have left are being applied to daily survival at the present time.

I loathe the thought of this info going to waste, languishing in a heap on my home-office floor.

DO YOU WANT IT, HILLBUZZ? Would you hold it all for safekeeping until you get a committee together to destroy ACORN, etc.?

I’d be happy to mail it to you first class. Just e-me your street or P.O. or office address, which I will immediately destroy after copying it to the mailing envelope. I won’t even memorize it (as if this old Hippie could…).

When you have a chance, please let me know.

    Thanks!
    Garlic

I just received the following via e-mail. Does anyone know whether it’s true and verified? Here ’tis:

    THE NATIONAL LAW JOURNAL
    Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Military to Pledge Oath To Obama, Not Constitution
    – Michele Chang

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is extremely frustrated with orders that the White House is contemplating. According to
sources at the Pentagon, including all branches of the armed forces, the Obama Administration may break with a
    centuries-old tradition.
    >
A spokesman for General James Cartwright, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, states that the Obama Administration wants to have soldiers and officers pledge a
loyalty oath directly to the office of the President, and no longer to the Constitution.
    >
“The oath to the Constitution is as old as the document itself.” the spokesman said, “At no time in American history,
not even in the Civil War, did the oath change or the subject of the oath differ. It has always been to the Constitution.”
    >
The back-and-forth between the White House and the Defense Department was expected as President George W. Bush left
office. President Obama has already signed orders to close Guantanamo and to pull combat troops from Iraq But, this, say
many at the Defense Department, goes too far.
    >
“Technically, we can’t talk about it before it becomes official policy.” the spokesman continued. “However, the Defense Department, including the Secretary, will not take this laying down. Expect a fight from the bureaucracy and the
    brass.”
    >
Sources at the White House had a different point of view. In a circular distributed by White House Press Secretary Robert
Gibbs, the rationale for the change was made more clear.
    >
“The President feels that the military has been too indoctrinated by the old harbingers of hate: nationalism, racism, and classism. By removing an oath to the American society, the soldiers are less likely to commit atrocities like those at Abu Ghraib.”
    >
“We expect a lot of flak over this,” the classified memo continues. “But those that would be most against it are those
looking either for attention or control.”
    >
The time frame for the changes are unknown. However, it is more likely that the changes will be made around the July 4th holiday, in order to dampen any potential backlash. The difference in the oath will actually only be slight. The main differences will be the new phrasing. It is expected that the
oath to the Constitution will be entirely phased out within two years.

But that doesn’t mean it’s entirely false. I have no doubts Obama WISHES the military would swear allegiance to the President instead. After all, I hear Obama had all the White House toilet paper printed with the words of the Constitution.

Many people ask why the GOP never had a woman running for VP before Sarah Palin? The answer is simple: Sarah Palin is the model of ultra conservatism. No high profile woman before her in the Republican Party had these credentials. Most Republican women are conservatives in some issues and liberals in other issues. Sarah Palin is conservative in all issues. That is why at this point in time she is the woman with the biggest chance to be nominated for president for the GOP. No woman had this chance before for the Republican Party. No “moderate” Republican has been nominated for president. Of the last 5 republican presidents all of them has been pro life, pro guns and pro marriage. The most liberal republican ever nominated for president was George H.W. Bush, but before he went on to campaign for the nomination he made a U turn and transformed himself in a total conservative candidate. The GOP will never nominate a “moderate” (Romney) a pro abortion rights and pro gay marriage(Gulliani), a mildly pro abortion(Condi Rice or Elizabeth Dole).

The only woman in GOP history able to take the GOP nmination is Sarah Plin.

Glenn Beck is calling for the minutes from the “secret” meeting to be released. If they are, she is TOAST. I sincerely believe she is insane with power and cannot be rational. She must be defeated, or thrown out for being crazy and a real danger to the nation.

Guys, I am really concerned over the Budget. They are taking over so much of the private sector. It is a one-party government right now and they are not allowing enough debate. As usual, they are ramming this stuff through. If you wish, please call your Senators at 202-224-3121.

You can read entire article here.

    http://townhall.com/columnists/CharlesKrauthammer/2009/04/24/obama_the_grand_strategy?page=full&comments=true

WASHINGTON — Unified theory of Obamaism, final installment:

“In the service of his ultimate mission — the leveling of social inequalities — President Obama offers a tripartite social democratic agenda: nationalized health care, federalized education (ultimately guaranteed through college) and a cash-cow carbon tax (or its equivalent) to subsidize the other two. (I have seen carbon tax estimates that are at least $3000 per household per year.)

Problem is, the math doesn’t add up. Not even a carbon tax would pay for Obama’s vastly expanded welfare state. Nor will Midwest Democrats stand for a tax that would devastate their already crumbling region.

What is obviously required is entitlement reform, meaning Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid. That’s where the real money is — trillions saved that could not only fund hugely expensive health and education programs but also restore budgetary balance.

Except that Obama has offered no real entitlement reform. His universal health care proposal would increase costs by perhaps $1 trillion. Medicare/Medicaid reform is supposed to decrease costs.

Obama’s own budget projections show staggering budget deficits going out to 2019. If he knows his social agenda is going to drown us in debt, what’s he up to?

He has an idea. But he dare not speak of it yet. He has only hinted. When asked in his March 24 news conference about the huge debt he’s incurring, Obama spoke vaguely of “additional adjustments” that will be unfolding in future budgets. . “Additional adjustments” equals major cuts in Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid.

Social Security is relatively easy….The hard part is Medicare and Medicaid. In an aging population, how do you keep them from blowing up the budget? There is only one answer: rationing.

Why do you think the stimulus package pours $1.1 billion into medical “comparative effectiveness research”? It is the perfect setup for rationing. Once you establish what is “best practice” for expensive operations, medical tests and aggressive therapies, you’ve laid the premise for funding some and denying others…

The more acute thinkers on the left can see rationing coming, provoking Slate blogger Mickey Kaus to warn of the political danger. “Isn’t it an epic mistake to try to sell Democratic health care reform on this basis? Possible sales pitch: ‘Our plan will deny you unnecessary treatments!’ … Is that really why the middle class will sign on to a revolutionary multitrillion-dollar shift in spending — so the government can decide their life or health ‘is not worth the price’?”

Social Security used to be the third rail of American politics. Not anymore. Health care rationing is taking its place — which is why Obama, the consummate politician, knows to offer the candy (universality) today before serving the spinach (rationing) tomorrow…
Taken as a whole, Obama’s social democratic agenda is breathtaking. And the rollout has thus far been brilliant. …

It will work for a while, but there is no escaping rationing. In the end, the spinach must be served.”

Please call and ask them to take a stand.

I just found out that I live in the 2nd most violent city in the US.

We are behind Detroit, another powerhouse of liberal, democrat controlled failure. Why can’t people wake up to the proven failure of these liberal policies?

And I just left Sin City, “which is now even emptier than Detroit.” To which I add, and probably just as violent.
