I’m really inspired by the Romney family’s personal motto of “Clear Eyes. Full Heart. Can’t Fail”. It’s remarkable…because it’s exactly what I’ve always believed in and it’s how I conduct myself as a political writer.
If you notice, Mitt Romney never phrases anything in a negative…and he never expresses worry or anxiety or other nonsense. He just powers through. Even when everyone is against the man — and for four years I was against him myself before he became our nominee — he maintains the clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose spirit.
I want to take a moment here today to explain to you why this is so important…and remind you that the Left does something similar, which is why they win so many elections in a country that’s naturally conservative. We have a real problem in our own ranks, folks, because too many conservative males (and it’s always the guys for some reason) treat the Internet like personal therapy sessions instead of being professionals who understand that everything they churn out on their sites influences the electorate in subtle ways. Americans, by nature, want to vote for winners; they love seeing election day like it’s Superbowl Sunday and they’ve got the right jersey on so they can not only celebrate with the victors…but show everyone how smart they were because they picked the winning team in advance.
Americans gravitate towards people who generate positive energy and who carry themselves with the confidence of a winner…which is what Mitt Romney does and then some. He’s so masterful at this that in my head I look at him and call the guy “New Reagan”. For the longest time I thought Mitt was a wimp because he’s just so nice of a person…but in the Republican primaries this year and then again in the general election he has proven himself to be a formidable political strategist who is unrelentingly positive while never letting anything throw him off his course. I absolutely love that about the man.
We really did end up with the absolute best person possible running for president this year, with the best VP pick imaginable as well. While I started this election cycle wanting Governor Sarah Palin to be our next President and Congressman Allen West to be our VP, I’m confident that Mitt Romney will find a way to include both of them in his administration if they are willing to serve and that my two favorite Americans in politics will play important roles in our country’s future. Mitt Romney is the kind of guy who is really going to build the bench and see to it that the entire time he’s president that he’ll be helping a new generation of conservatives prepare to take office all across the country to help get America back on track. While the Democrat Party will descend into Civil War on November 7th between the factions of the Clinton Restoration and the Obama Remnant, Republicans will have a strong leader with clear eyes and a full heart who can’t lose.
I can’t get the song “Here Comes the Sun” out of my head. I feel like we’ve weathered a horrific storm and the light has now broken through. The ground is still soaked and there are branches down and everything’s a mess…but there’s a light shining down letting us know it’s going to be okay. I am as surprised as anyone that the man on the scene offering me this reassurance is Mitt Romney…and I appreciate the irony that I am proud to be a Romney supporter today when I so strenuously resisted this man becoming the nominee.
I think that actually bodes incredibly well for his presidency. I — quite unfortunately sometimes — am a person who holds grudges and if I don’t like someone it takes an awful lot for me to ever come around to that person again. I pray on this and try to work on it, but it’s just part of my personality. We’re all sinners but I think it’s my worst personal fault that I don’t forgive as easily as I should; it’s not an excuse, but I think this is related to growing up in Cleveland and being disappointed so often by some of the people in my life (and by a city that jumped from one crazy scheme to the next with no real chance of making life any better for those of us who were stuck living there). I tend to write people off who’ve disappointed me and rarely revisit those relationships…which makes tension and bad blood where there doesn’t need to be.
I’m stunned that a presidential candidate (and our next president) can actually be a sterling role model to me…because I’ve never had anything like this before. Mitt Romney has a personal track record of putting aside pettiness and bad feelings and reaching out to people for help in achieving things that would have been impossible with anyone else in the driver’s seat. I’ve been studying what Romney did to turn around the Olympics in 2002 and it’s remarkable. You have no idea how stupid and greedy many of the people associated with the Olympics really are. The Romney campaign is too nice to ever say this, but many of the people associated with the Olympics are complete fools (at best) or are looking to score big kickbacks for themselves. I saw this here in Chicago when Mayor Daley went off on his fool’s quest to bid for the 2016 games; the greed, corruption, and intense stupidity that permeated that bid was rampant in Chicago. It would have been an unmitigated nightmare if we’d have landed the games (so it’s actually the only good thing Michelle Obama ever did when she went to Brussels to represent Chicago and made such an ass of herself that Chicago came in FOURTH out of four cities when selecting the 2016 host).
Rescuing the Olympics from the greedy and the stupid was a big deal. Mitt Romney was probably the only person alive who could have turned that around. The job required someone who was nice and understanding when he needed to be…and then resolute and determined when it came time to crack skulls and tell people their bad behavior would no longer be tolerated. As president, I think I’m going to enjoy Mitt Romney’s personal style as a chief executive. He will always be positive in his voice and will speak directly to us about the challenges we face…but the man will never be dreary or depressing even if we’re in the middle of a big crisis. Good leaders know how to keep people motivated and engaged…and they realize that our shared success depends on everyone out there knowing every day that they have something to contribute and that we’re all in this together.
I like hearing the stories about how Mitt Romney recruited talented young guys to work at Bain Capital and how he helped them advance in the company. I love that Mitt Romney went out of his way to find talented women to work in his administration as governor and how he insisted he’d have a Cabinet with more women represented than any other top executive in the country; I expect his White House will be staffed with more women than anyone before and I’m hoping that includes Liz Cheney as National Security Director and Governor Sarah Palin as Secretary of Energy (if they’d agree to the positions). I’d like to see Governor Jan Brewer as Secretary of Homeland Security, because she’s term-limited and I’d like to see her elevated to a national position before she leaves her office in Arizona. I believe that someone who serves in Mitt Romney’s Cabinet will go on to become the first female President of the United States in the near future. She might even be someone we’ve never heard of yet who is brought onto the national stage by Romney because he recognizes her talent.
But, I do believe Romney is going to set things in motion for that future female president…which is something I want to see in my lifetime (and something that should have happened in 2008 if the Left had not insisted on forcing Barack Obama on us instead). Democrats were foolish to shunt Hillary Clinton to the side in favor of what they thought was a magical black man…and as a result the first female president is going to be a Republican…and she’ll be a former Romney administration official when it comes time for her to run.
I also hope that Paul Ryan has a bright future ahead of him that makes him our 46th President, after Romney’s terms in office. Once again, Mitt Romney identifies talent and does what he can to ensure a bright young guy is put on a path towards success because he has what it takes to be great for the country. Just imagine all of the Paul Ryans that Romney is going to discover and advance in the next eight years. It’s going to be incredible.
The country’s never had anyone like this in office before. I called Romney the “New Reagan” because I have that feeling again that I did when I was a kid in the Reagan administration that everything is going to be okay again. America is going to be strong again…and we’re going to have a President who knows how to act like a President and will be strong and upbeat and never wavering. That’s the “New Reagan” aspect to Romney — along with the movie star good looks — but Romney’s even better than Reagan in a way because Ronald Reagan never ran a business. He was smart, and was an effective governor, and he knew how to deal well with people from his days in Hollywood and dealing with the Screen Actors Guild snake pit…but for the first time ever we have someone who actually knows what it takes to turn businesses around.
That’s amazing to me. Instead of another lawyer and equivocator and blame-shifter we’re going to have a successful businessman in the White House who knows how to help people turn things around. The right man appeared at the right time in the middle of crisis. Mitt Romney has the potential to be up there with George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and…yes…Ronald Reagan as the pitch-perfect, exact person needed at just the right moment in time when Americans needed someone EXACTLY LIKE THAT the most.
I really hope you don’t miss out on being part of Mitt Romney’s election to the presidency. I have a good friend in California who was on the ground working for the Reagan 1980 campaign back when she was a teenager. She’s a mom and grandmother now and, to this day, speaks with immense pride about what she was able to do to help elect Ronald Reagan. She worked phones. She canvassed neighborhoods. She donated what she could. And all these years later when someone asks her what she did with her life she says “I helped get Ronald Reagan into office to save the country”.
I want you to be able to say this too someday. Because we’re friends like that. I want at least one person to say to you “Hey, don’t miss your chance to be part of something amazing”. It’s Saturday October 27th, 2012 and we have just 10 days until the election. You can do a lot of great stuff in 10 days.
1. Make calls on behalf of Mitt Romney and tell fellow Americans why you support him and how much you believe in him — via MittRomney.com
2. Help me spread the word to as many people as possible that they can watch “The Hope and the Change” for FREE on Hulu.com.
I don’t like talking on the telephone, so making calls is not for me. And my natural personality is to do something more online and subtle…so spreading word about “The Hope and the Change” via Hulu is how I am helping Romney get elected because I think it’s impossible to watch this movie and not vote for Romney. The problem is that the people who most need to see the movie are not seeing it. We have ten days to fix that.
I can’t presume to tell you how you should help elect Mitt Romney but I’d like to ask you to think of things YOU can do in the next ten days that really make the most of the time we have left. Romney is going to win, but he needs to win BIG so that the Ministry of Truth can’t downplay the victory. Barack Obama and the Left need to be absolutely eviscerated on November 6th. Romney’s win needs to eclipse Obama’s own 2008 victory over McCain so that Americans will all see that the country rejected the Left and everything it tried to do to us while Obama was president. Romney’s win needs to be so massive that the Democrat Party has to purge everyone affiliated with Obama and the Left if it wants to survive as a viable national entity. Romney’s win needs to be so overwhelming that the talking heads on MSNBC and CNN and all the other operatives of Minitru out there collapse into twitching heaps on the floor come election night.
We have ten days to awaken the sleeping giant that will decimate the Left in our generation.
Please chime in below and tell us what YOU are doing to nudge that giant to life.
This is an Open Thread (as all Doom Antidotes are) so tell us what you think is important to know today.
I’m most interested in seeing GROUND REPORTS from where you live letting us know who you think will win your state. What are your friends and family telling you? What signs are you picking up that give you clues to the support Romney has by you? What isn’t the Ministry of Truth reporting on?
Ten days, folks. Ten days to be a part of something epic. Ten days to do what you can so that many years from now you can say “I was part of the team that put Mitt Romney into office and saved America”.
