Does Kelloggs Support the Statutory Rape of 14 year-olds?

misogynystopDoes the Kelloggs Company support the statutory rape of 14 year-olds, the forcible impregnation of minors, the prostitution of young girls, and the exploitation of women?

This is a question that needs to be asked of the Kellogg’s executive team, since their silence the last few days has been deafening.

Kelloggs is one of the largest sponsors of the Late Show with David Letterman, a program that jokes about the statutory rape of 14 year-old girls.  On June 9th, 2009, David Letterman told his audience that Sarah Palin’s daughter had been “knocked up” duing a New York Yankees game by 33 year-old Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez.  Sarah Palin’s daughter, the only child of hers attending that Yankees game in New York, is 14 years-old — making Letterman’s joke about statutory rape, and how funny it is that during a baseball game at the new Yankee Stadium Alex Rodriguez took time during one of the innings to rape Willow Palin, impregnate her, and then get back to his duties on the field.

The next day, on June 10th, 2009, David Letterman said Willow Palin had become a prostitute, and was now kin to the hookers hired by former Governor Eliot Spitzer.

This is, of course, in addition to Letterman calling the Governor of America’s largest state “a slutty flight attendant”, accusing her of having a crack habit, denigrating her intelligence, and implying she was a lesbian.

Just another night of “jokes” on the show Kellogg’s keeps on the air: the David Letterman show.

Kellogg’s needs to address this matter and clarify its corporate position on the statutory rape of 14 year-old girls and the forcible impregnation of minors. By continuing to send their advertising millions to CBS, Kellogg’s directly keeps the Ed Sullivan theater’s doors open, pays the light bill, and gives David Letterman his platform to exploit women.

Kellogg’s directly encourages the exploitation and rape of women in this country by helping to pay David Letterman’s salary, in upwards of $30 million a year.

Please write to Kelloggs and in a professional, polite, and direct one-page letter ask the six people listed below what Kellogg’s position is on statutory rape, David Letterman’s jokes, and the forcible impregnation of minors, as featured on the Late Show with David Letterman.

Write each one every day until Kelloggs pulls its advertising support of David Letterman.  Write several times a day if you can.  Keep writing until Kelloggs takes responsibility for the monster it keeps on the air by paying his salary and bills.

“Kelloggs: the company that makes cereal you eat while laughing about statutory rape!”

      From the article cited above:

“Letterman found himself in hot water after making a joke about Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez “knocking up” one of Palin’s daughters, which the governor took to mean 14-year-old Willow. Letterman apologized and clarified to say he meant 18-year-old Bristol, but not before Gov. Palin suggested Letterman was “perverted” and should not be let near daughter Willow.”

I’m getting fed up with every article I read intimating that the Palins have somehow misconstrued which daughter was being singled out here. If not that, there is some mention of Palins being “furious” or overreacting in some manner.

I feel the Palins have been both very measured and classy in their responses and are being further maligned by the press. I suggest that letters to editors, feedback in comments sections, and writing campaigns to media heads whose companies are misrepresenting this situation be included as part of our “homework”. I know it’s more to do, but the media at large needs to know they aren’t fooling us.

“Letterman apologized and clarified to say he meant 18-year-old Bristol…”

Does letterman actually think saying he meant the Palin’s 18-year old daughter makes the “joke” OKAY? It’s STILL statutory rape. Why does he think it’s okay to “joke” about rape AT ALL????

Just say goodnight Dave. And go away. And please – don’t. come. back.

        • MinniePearlJam says:
          2009/06/13 at 9:06 pm

The problem with Letterman’s ridiculous explanation is that only Palin’s 14 year old daughter accompnied her to NY.

They had the chance to do the right thing. But they used it as an opportunity to slam conservatives.

For the record, I don’t know anyone who would think that comment about Chelsea Clinton is acceptable. For it, Rush is just as much in the wrong as Letterman is.

        • Ten says:
          2009/06/11 at 10:13 pm

The difference is that Rush … who doesn’t work from a written script and is mostly spontaneous in his talk show … was almost immediately apologetic (as I remember). To my knowledge (and I confess I do not listen to Rush often), he has never done it again to ANYONE’s child.

Letterman, who has yet to apologize to the Palins, works from specifically scripted jokes in which he has first hand input. He knew very well what he was saying.

As to NOW … you said it. Lame.

  • FLMom says:

Did anybody see the Barbara Walters clip on O’Reilly? The TV was on but I wasn’t paying close attention. He played a couple of clips of people blaming Sarah Palin.

Walters basically said that Sarah Palin’s outrage was manufactured because she knew that Letterman was talking about the older daughter.

    So that makes it OK?

So even though the younger daughter was the only daughter at the Yankee’s game, Palin knew he really meant the older daughter, who is apparently a fair target because she is of age?

    SICKENING!!!

    • yogi41 says:
      2009/06/11 at 8:19 pm

Yes, I saw it, but it was Arianna Huffington, not Barbara Walters.

        Yogi,

I watched The View today (yes, I am ashamed) to hear what the “ladies” would say. Baba Wawa pretty much said its all Palin’s fault and Bristol had it coming for daring to advocate abstinence.

    • Bob Loblaw says:
      2009/06/11 at 8:21 pm

It plays into the idea that Sarah is soooo stupid. Takes a lot mental gymnastics to come to the conclusion that, of course, this was Bristol to whom he was referring. These people are beyond the pale. The only ones they are convincing are their own kind and themselves. But just like Dr. U said, you can put lipstick on a (misogynist) pig, but it’s still a pig. Sorry, this turd don’t shine.

“I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact and was in no way fair comment and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future.” — John Cleese in “A Fish Called Wanda”

Not to split hairs or anything…lol.

But wasn’t Cleese being hung out the window by his ankles at the time?

I imagine Letterman would have to assume the same position before such an apology left his lips.

Sarah will be interviewed by Matt Lauer tomorrow morning. Here’s the note I just sent to NBC:

I have boycotted GE, NBC, MSNBC and CNBC for the past year. So have thousands (or perhaps millions) of other Americans.

CBS and Letterman made huge mistakes this week.

Alaskans don’t take crap from you or anyone.

I agree with your post and Bob’s above. The MSM seem to be trying to make this all Palin’s fault. ABC national news this evening twisted it also. NO WAY! I’ve also noticed all the people saying it’s Palin’s fault. Obviously they did not bother to check that Letterman started all this and probably only listened to sound bites. I am adding to my emails/letters a couple sentences about how this all started with Letterman and he’s the one making it worse, NOT Sarah Palin.

Why should it matter if Letterman was talking about the older daughter instead of the younger one? This is crazy! Funny thing is … Letterman and his “new” wife had a child out of wedlock. He just recently married the mother of his child. Who is he to pass judgement? Maybe we should start slamming his wife and calling them the hypocrites that they are.

    • Josie says:
      2009/06/11 at 11:21 pm

I agree with you. It makes no difference if it was the older or younger daughter, especially after he made that Eliot Spitzer remark.

Additionally, the slutty flight attendant was also out of line. I do not see that a woman who favors pencil skirts at the knee (not the mini skirts other have suggested) and jackets dresses slutty. He insulted practically every woman that wears a suit to work. I know that a lot of people have fetishes about her shoes, but how many women wear heels just as high or higher? I know I do and a lot of my friends do too and we do not consider outselves sluts.

      • BlueStateBilly says:
        2009/06/12 at 6:10 am

Very interestingly, there’s an odd line of coordinated troll attacks at other blogs repeating the “Palin dresses slutty” meme.

I think it’s the old Alinsky method again: Hold your opponent up to impossible standards and then attack them when they don’t live up to them.

Parker is a syndicated columnist. My local newspaper carries her in rotation with other conservative columnists. If your local paper carries her, contact them and ask them to remove her from the rotation and to replace her with a real conservative columnist.

I don’t understand why some in the media are saying that Gov. Palin’s kids are fair game because she took them out on the campaign trail.

Have they forgotten that when campaigning that then Sen. Obama’s kids made public appearances as well?

I’ve yet to hear one crude remark made about those children, and I’m glad I haven’t, they are precious girls, just as the Palin’s children are precious.

    How about a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T???!!!

    • Josie says:
      2009/06/11 at 11:29 pm

They are also stating that because Gov. Palin stated that her daughter was pregnant that she should have kept it quiet and a family matter and that is the reason why they feel Bristol is not off limits. But what they do not understand that the day after Palin gave her speech when she was chosen by McCain, there was an article stating that her son, Trig was not hers but her daughter’s and that there was this big cover up. I think that the campaign decided that the easiest way to debunk that was to admit that Bristol was pregnant so they would realize that the rumors were false and that it was impossible for Bristol to be Trig’s mother. That backfired, because some still like to say that Bristol is Trig’s mother.

I don’t care what party you are from. This is WRONG.
For women, for their children, for this country.

I think we ALL need to fight this kind of hate.

I remember as a child hearing about Amy Carter and how “ugly” she was, and I asked my Dad why someone would be so mean about the President’s daughter.
He said, “Some people are just mean, honey.”

I remember the comments about Chelsey, and I thought, “How sick. How disgusting”.

I don’t even remember which side these comments came from.
There were no blogs at the time, nor were there personal computers.
    Only mainstream Media.

And for this MEDIA to ignore or distort this kind of crap makes me sick.

Our side is winning. Letterman eluded to his problems, but was obviously told by lawyers to SHUT HIS MOUTH.

    Good work, Hillbuzz fans.

I believe that you are missing a second g from the email addresses eg. should be:

      @kellogg.com">media.hotline@kellogg.com

      not:

      @kellog.com">media.hotline@kellog.com

    Hello, Hillbuzz friends,

I have really taken to heart the thoughtful, insightful, and responsible leadership provided by you folks, and others like you (such as C4P). I have committed myself to writing at least a few letters every day to individual executives at Letterman sponsors, as long as it takes.

It takes a lot of effort, and time, and I can only do so much in order to pace myself. And like you, there is so much else clamoring for my time, but those things will have to wait. But I’m with you, was it Sebastian who said(?) – not on my watch. Not this time.

    God bless you all!

    Peter

Thanks for the email contacts. I wrote Kellogg’s a respectful letter.
IT’s very helpful to get the addresses ( email).

I called the personal assistant of the CEO of Kelloggs (James Jenness) Her name is Erin Havessen or Haressen (I can’t read my own notes) She seemed helpful and listened to my concerns about the situation with CBS.

Please contact her by calling 269-961-2000.

I called Kellogs; they were really polite.

I mentioned I would by twice the usual number of products from them over the course of a month if they got Rid of Letterman within 30 days.

I say that CBS needs to apply their own Imus standard.

Great article. I especially love this quote (‘Jesse’ meaning Jesse Jackson of course):

“Jackson called the firing “a victory for public decency. No one should use the public airwaves to transmit racial or sexual degradation.”

sorry, Letterman didn’t apologize, for an apology to occur the words “I’m sorry…” have to occur sometime during the apology, and that hasn’t happened yet.

It’s about time corporate America took responsibility for the programs they support. Letterman has been getting more and more boring anyway, but this put me over the top as to (a) not watching him anymore and (b) not supporting Kelloggs with my dollars anymore so long as they support him.

We are through with Kellogs breakfasts, as I have recently found your brand supporting David Letterman and his “funny” remarks about the raping of a young girl. Is this the association you want for your company? Sad, and I for one am done with Kellongs, as there are so many alternatives.

  • R Mayes says:

We will be running General Mills in our breakfast cabinet going forward. I am done with all companies that sponsor David Letterman who I think is sick for making those “jokes” about raping a young girl, regardless of age. He is a grumpy old man whose time has come TO GO!

My family are cereal lovers … we consume vast quantities of the product.

From now on, and until Kellogs no longer advertises on the Letterman show, we will switch to other manufacturers.

I just now “donated”, to my progressive neighbor’s household, full boxes of Crispix, MiniWheats and Frosted Flakes. I considered throwing them out but realized I could possibly tell my story to the “other side” by my alternate action.

They have children and they listened.

In reading over the comments I am thrilled to see that I am not the only person that will be boycotting, Kellogs (love Forsted Mini Wheats), Mars Candy (love TWIX) and the Darden Restaurants (love the Olive Garden). Please continue to keep us all imformed. As for the Joy Behar we must take what she says with a grain of salt the women was married to a man who lived next door to her for many years, can you imagine what that would do to a womens image of herself? I have continually fell very sorry for her not Joy full but very sad life.

I’ll be my family and friends eat a lot more Corn Flakes than David Letterman and his elitist ilk. He does not speak for a company of your caliber, I would think. You are better than that!

I am sorry but I can not longer support a product that sits on my breakfast table that will support a program that is degrading to women and family values. David Letterman’s comment were inappropriate whether the girl was 14, 18, or 45 years of age.

Kelloggs is off my grocery list.

Letterman is not only a slime ball to tell such raunchy “jokes” about a young girl just to get back at someone he considers a political enemy; but he is a liar also. He claims he is to blame for the misunderstanding. There was no misunderstanding. Everyone understands what he was doing. What he should apologize for is for his dirty mouth and mind. He should apologize for hating someone so much that he would drag a young girl through the mire to make the person who disagrees with him politically look bad.

DAVID LETTERMAN IS “SICK” – NOT FUNNY TO THINK THAT IT WOULD BE OK TO MAKE A JOKE ABOUT AN 18 YEAR OLD GIRL!! HE ADMITTED TO SAYING ” before the show, I checked to make sure, in fact, that she is of legal age, 18″ HOW OUTRAGEOUS!!

  • Fred says:

    Fire David Letterman!
The Tonight Show needs a tastefully funny comedian who also quits pushing his/her liberal views on the audience. I also agree that he’s a liar. If he represents the liberal political view, then liberals also ought to stand up against him. I will boycott all sponsors and guests of this tasteless program.

Rape jokes about anyone let alone a 14 year old girl, and then apologizing and saying you meant the 18 year old girl, are completely unacceptable, repulsive, insane, inhumane, anti-American, anti-child, anti-woman, anti everything I was brought up to believe was honorable and right. How can you support such an unethical, insensitive, anti woman/child talk show host?????? I definitely will not be buying any Kellogs products. Please DROP all support of this type of behavior!

Since Kelloggs wasted not a second in pulling Phelps off their cereal boxes I expect a corresponding timely action in disavowing advertising on the Letterman show.

It would pain me to give up my Kellogg’s Corn Flakes but I will do so unless you take appropriate action in letting this egotistic fool know that you are not going to support his show.

  • Mario says:

Kelloggs will be out of my house and all items they sell under their brand name.
They have no integrity, so make your bed.
Don’t forget the people can decide your future by boycotting your products.
I will be sure to pass the word.
    Thanks, Mario

Sarah Palin is a smart, beautiful, and honorable woman. She is everything that the so-called “Hollywood Elite” hate. I don’t think that they realize that their hate speech against her is counterproductive. With every anti-Palin comment made, my support for her and her political campaign grows at a geometric rate. Palin ’12 sounds better eery day. Tell Dave that the only thing “slutty” is the hooker with no self-esteem that would consider him as a client.
