Does Johnson + Johnson Support the Statutory Rape of 14 year-old Girls?

Posted on June 15, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

90_johnson_johnsonfelony

FACT: On June 8th, 2009, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin attended a New York Yankees game with her 14 year-old daughter Willow, the only one of her children in the state of New York with her.

FACT: On June 8th, 2009, political activist David Letterman made a “joke” about the Palin daughter attending the New York Yankees game (which could only mean 14 year-old Willow, as she was the only Palin daughter there), claiming she was “knocked up” by Yankees player Alex Rodriguez during “the seventh inning stretch”.

FACT: Alex Rodriguez is 33 years-old.

FACT: Sexual intercourse, required to “knock up” Palin’s daughter, between a the 14 year-old at the Yankees game and Yankees player Alex Rodriguez during the seventh inning stretch, as Letterman described, is statutory rape in New York and every state of the union.

FACT: On June 9th, Letterman went on to suggest Willow Palin, 14 years-old, should become one of disgraced former Governor Eliot Spitzer’s prostitutes.

FACT: Throughout the week of June 8th-12th, Letterman repeatedly made sexist, misogynist, and sexual references to Governor Palin, calling her a “slutty flight attendant”, saying she was in town looking for crack cocaine, cast her with antisemitic aspersions, and consistently degraded her in gender-based terms.

FACT: Johnson + Johnson is a major sponsor of David Letterman’s television program, which he uses to promote the liberal agenda, which includes the degradation and misogynistic attack on women. Among the products Johnson + Johnson advertises on David Letterman’s nightly pigfest are Aveeno and KY-brand personal lubricant.

FACT: Without Johnson + Johnson’s support, David Letterman would have no TV program with which to attack and demean women.

Questions: What is Johnson + Johnson’s corporate stance on the statutory rape of 14 year-old girls by 33 year-old baseball players?

Does Johnson + Johnson find this joke funny?

Has Johnson + Johnson reviewed tape of the June 8th and June 9th David Letterman shows and determined the content therein is in keeping with the Johnson + Johnson mission statement, brand identity, and consumer outreach strategy?

Does Johnson + Johnson believe sponsoring a show that exhibits such venom and misogyny towards women is the best place it can spend its advertising dollars?

Please ask these questions and include these facts in letters written to the following board members of Johnson + Johnson, one of David Letterman’s largest advertisers (remember, FedExes directly to these people get their the next day and they are guaranteed to see them; letters written and send USPS will also reach them eventually; FAXes to Johnson + Johnson are the third most effective means of reaching the board; calls to Johnson + Johnson are the next best way to reach them; emails to companies are generally disregarded and will most likely bounce back, so they are the last resort when trying to reach a company the size of Johnson + Johnson).

Letterman’s Palin Joke Costs CBS an Advertiser, Spawns Campaign for His Firing
By Tim Malloy | TV Guide
David Letterman’s comments about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and one of her daughters has prompted a hotel chain to pull its advertising on CBS’ website — and spawned a campaign to fire the Late Show host that includes a planned protest outside his studio.
Embassy Suites, part of the Hilton Hotels Corp., pulled advertising on CBS’ site because of complaints, company spokeswoman Kendra Walker told TVGuide.com. The company was not an advertiser on Letterman’s show.
“We received lots of e-mails from concerned guests and we assessed that the statement that he made was offensive enough to our guests and prospective guests that we elected to take the ads down,” Walker said. She declined to release the cost of the ads.
    CBS declined to comment Tuesday.

    WAY TO GO EMBASSY SUITES!!!

It probably wouldn’t hurt to let ES know that you appreciate their efforts and will patronize their hotels now.

So it took him a week, with a non-apology thrown in for bad measure… but apparently he’s apologized now.

I’m sorry…but this isn’t good enough. This isn’t about being genuinely remorseful about the completely irresponsible words he uttered or a true understanding of why such comments are completely and totally unacceptable regarding ANY public figure’s children.

    This is CYA. Period.

It sounds like an apology that ones says when he gets caught…he’s remorseful over the fact he got caught. No understanding why he should be remorseful.

You guys have been GREAT with this stuff !

Just some more FYI to tie into a Brand Boycot … J&J makes many products including Medical and Pharmaceutical. Here is a link to just J&J’s Consumer Products site, if noone has posted one yet:

    http://www.jnj.com/connect/healthcare-products/consumer/?flash=true

Interesting that there are a LOT of women’s products offered by J&J.

I wonder if any of those women’s products protect 14 year-old girls from statutory rape … or from 62 year-old perverted comedians …

Maybe we can all ask J&J if they have such protection in their stable of women’s consumer products …

David Letterman and his writers are perverts. We support all protests. Pull ads. Save your money and your customers. We are angry at his nasty unfunny humor. Rape is not a joke. Palin and her daughters and all women deserve respect and honor, not slander and libel. Letterman and his show need to be cancelled. They should be real sorry that they are so ugly and mean.

This is not a liberal vs. conservative issue. Nor is it a Democratic vs. Republican issue. It is misogyny pure and simple. Sexist attacks on women – old an young – is a shared liability. Both sides are guilty of this. This time it’s Dave. I’m sure Hillary would not be pleased. Neither would Obama.

You weaken the entire letter when you veer off into attacking Dave for his “liberal agenda.” That doesn’t help. It makes it sound partisan and sexist jokes are bipartisan.

    Otherwise kudos on your campaign.

Having not found comment on the J&J website and having not heard of any change relative to the J&J advertising on the David Letterman Show, I must infer that your company does not believe in the seriousness of issues surrounding David Letterman’s monologue, list, and non-apologies.

I find it unbelievable for the company to advertise on a television program where the host makes more than one crude and pathetic joke about the rape of children. Women and children have enough troubles in this world without corporate sponsorship of such degrading diatribes.

Be assured that I will now be much more careful in my purchase of products. J&J will no longer be my first choice. That shows how well your advertising on the Letterman Show will work.

Letterman has clearly crossed the line of decency in his failed attempt to be funny. There are a host of other subjects that he could have selected for his jokes (most of which are corny anyway). I urge you to pull your advertisement from his TV show.

I’m requesting that Johnson & Johnson pull the ads of any of their products from the Letterman show.
He compounded his despicable comments on members of the Palin family with 2 non-apologies and his further attempts to brush this aside with poor taste comments on his subsequent shows.
His audience laughed (a sad commentary on the type of viewer he attracts) but I did not.

Word is getting around that the OLIVE GARDEN has pulled their advertising on the Letterman show for AT LEAST THE REST OF THE YEAR. Doing the right thing! Your continued association with the Letterman show and CBS is telling the world that you agree with his comments or are hoping they’ll just go away. I assure you we aren’t going away. Right now his ratings are up because we are watching and listing the advertisers. I am not and will not use any of your products until you have pulled your advertising from Letterman and CBS.
