How about using the upcoming week to put immense pressure on Democrat Linda Lopez to apologize to all Americans for turning the tragic assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords into a partisan political attack by Democrats on the Tea Party movement.
Arizona state representative Lopez was a high profile driving force behind the immediate effort on the Left to blame the Tea Party for the shooting of Congresswoman Giffords and the murder of 6 bystanders yesterday (with scores more injured). Without having a single piece of information, Lopez took to the airwaves condemning the Tea Party and conservatives for the murder spree.
Jared Lee Loughner, the would-be assassin, is a confirmed Leftist Democrat upset with Congresswoman Giffords for being a conservative Democrat who was not Leftist enough for his tastes.
Blackfive.net has suggested directing attention and energy toward Lopez to let her know how Americans feel about Democrats taking the advice of Rahm Emanuel to “never let a good crisis go to waste” and politicizing a tragedy into an assault on opponents.
If you have a fax machine, fax Linda Lopez and tell her what you think of her.
Be polite, professional, and curse-free…but be honest. It is a challenge to write an effective and compelling letter of scorn and contempt, but this woman deserves it, and I know you have it in you if you apply yourself.
If you can’t fax, then email. Write a snail mail letter too.
On Monday, when her office opens again, call her nonstop on the telephone to tell her staff what you think of her.
Let’s see if this Democrat does the right thing and owns up to doing the Left’s bidding so recklessly.

That was my immediate thought when I heard Lopez on TV. It reminded me of when Obama blamed those of us who had serious issues with the partial birth practitioner, Dr. Teller. Obama immediately blamed anti-abortion people with being the reason Teller was shot. At least this time, someone impressed Obama, and he issued a sensible and serious response to this awful slaughter. Lopez picked up the rude, insensitive mantra that seems to be the Democratic Party response to many tragedies. Would I be wrong in thinking Ms. Lopez is pro-amnesty for Hispanics? Do we even know if she really is a “good friend” of GG? She was the main spokesperson Fox News had on and it may have been just because she is such an opportunist? I prayed yesterday for those who were wounded, my thoughts and prayers go out to all harmed, but Ms. Lopez did stand out as a political shill. How sad she couldn’t realize it isn’t about her, but about those shot, wounded and traumatized. Way to go Lopez!
Kevin, it’s 3am Sunday morning and I am sitting in the same spot at my computer where I became “glued to my chair” early Saturday evening by Arizona Democrat State Senator Linda Lopez’ outrageous response to a comment by Fox News anchor Shepard Smith. Here’s the excerpt from their exchange that has kept me awake:
Smith: “Looking back over her [Gifford's] career over the last couple of years, it would appear that she’s been targeted by people for some level of violence more than once.”
Lopez: “There has been so much vitriol slung at her by the Tea Party people. Ummm… You know her opponent was in the election… was a Tea Party candidate and the signs that were up around town accusing her of horribble things. Ummm… You know when people make these kinds of comments… you know it pushes some folks over the edge.”
Smith: “Have there been threats recently that you know of?”
Lopez: “Not that I’m aware of… not that I’m aware of…”
Smith: “Do you know anything about who this person was? Have you heard a description of this person?”
Lopez: “I have heard… and I don’t know this for a fact, but I read that this person was an Afghan vet.”
Smith: “A veteran of the war in Afghanistan?”
Lopez: “Yes. Uhmm-hmmmm.”
In the process of looking up her contact information (and that of leaders in both the Arizona State Senate and the House) so I can express my dismay to ALL of them, I’ve gotten so engrossed in news articles about her campaign that I can’t sleep… the blog comments by liberals /Democrats are absolutely brutal toward those of us who consider ourselves Tea Party patriots. Even as we pray, we’re being mocked for having the nerve to pray since the left contends that we Tea Party advocates are to blame for Jared Loughen’s actions. Well, Tea Partiers in general along with Sarah Palin, Gifford’s Tea Party opponent Jesse Kelly, Michelle Bachman, and Rush Limbaugh in particular plus the usual rightwing suspects.
Anyway, I am disturbed by the nastiness and contempt expressed by bloggers and have responded to a number of them… some more politely than others.
I needed to complete some work-related tasks this weekend, but that may not happen until I can get a well-worded email and letter off to members of the Arizona State Legislature (with copies to my own representatives here in Texas).

Even more than Lopez, I am disgusted by the Pima County Sheriff, Clarence Dupnik, politicizing the shooting. In his press conference, he chose to complain about radio and TV hosts who use bigotry in Arizona.
This is outrageous. Remember when Bloomberg said the Times Square bombing might be from an opponent of health care? This idiot is trying to imply Giffords was shot because of immigration. The reason people are angry about illegal immigration is because of fat, lazy sheriffs like Dupnik, who let drug runners cross the border and only act after a rancher on the border is murdered.
First, I think the federal government should investigate the lousy security provided by the Sheriff’s office. Then they should figure out why it took 30 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. For good measure, I’d like to know why a Giffords staffer had to tackle the shooter instead of a law enforcement office.

Thank you for posting that exchange with Lopez. I intend to focus on her irresponsible comment that he was an Afghan veteran. The shooter was never in the military and had been turned down as unqualified. She slandered the military, and especially those who serve in combat areas, with that irresponsible statement.
These people are out of control. Furthermore, this is how they are going to behave in every crisis and tragedy for the next two years.

I am an independent conservative voter and I don’t belong to the tea party nor am I involved with any other political organizatoin, but I saw this exchange between Shepard Smith and Linda Lopez live as it happened on the air and I was infuriated that she immediately associated the shootist as an Afghan veteran and also implied the tea party organization encouraged this without having any facts for the claims.
Do I think she will apologize? No. But at least she will get one email from someone who isn’t going to step back and let this just “blow over”. Shame on her !

Immediately yesterday when this happened I knew this would happen. In fact…I was disgusted with all the news. It was absolutely, positively irresponsible of all the news outlets to report what they did, how they did it, and in the manner it was done.
Imagine this woman’s family. They were told almost instantly she was dead. Almost ALL of the news reports from the beginning were FALSE. I was disgusted with every single news source and I turned off the news.
Being FIRST is the ultimately goal of all news sources. It does not matter how accurate their information is. They just want you to watch/read. It is something that truly grates my nerves. Whenever we have an emergency in this country we are instantly drawn like moths to a flame to the news so we can watch for hours and hours as they sort through false information to get to the truth. I turned off the news yesterday because I refuse to be a part of it.
It’s one thing when something happens and it impacts your life directly. Like a nuclear attack…I would certainly want the news to be on during a time of national emergency. But if it does not impact me personally, if there’s no tornado coming towards my house or a bomb coming at my city….I’m waiting to find out the truth.
The left ALWAYS exploits a crisis to frame the tea party and/or right. We KNOW they are going to do it. It’s as predictable as the wind. For heaven’s sake…if the left is so stupid to elect Nancy Pelosi as leader and now they have JANE FONDA as their immediate spokesperson during a crisis???? COME ON! I listened to about half of the interview, the interview was being handled respectfully. The little girel was one of the 9/11/2001 babies. Some families feel better to talk about their loss. What I heard can also help her school mates cope because they can blame themselves for her being there.

I just forced myself to watch ‘This Week with C. Amanpour. Unbelievable! They kept showing the target chart and mentioned Sarah over and over. They said that the congresswomans father was asked if she had any enemies, and he replied “all the teaparty people”. They showed the sheriff blaming the people angry over amnesty and obamacare. The entire show was total propaganda to blame conservatives and the teaparty.
It was a tough hour to watch. I fear that all the average Americans who aren’t truly informed and take these people at their word,are now all convinced this happened because of Sarah and the teaparty.

Columnists are human and have strong and immediate reactions to awful news, but those are best kept private until facts are known. As Fitzsimmons acknowledged on CNN, he wasn’t reporting and didn’t know at the time who the shooter was or his motivation.

That a flagrantly psychotic young man with persecutory delusions that “the government” was brainwashing people and engaging in mind control attacked a representative of the government was not random. That the representative happened to have been one of Sarah Palin’s “targets” absolutely could have been. From the information released so far, we have no idea what drove him to that specific person on that day.
Having worked in crisis mental health for years, I can tell you that delusionary belief systems can certainly be disorganized and irrational enough that they don’t have anything to do with what we normally think of as right versus left or Dem versus Repub. It’s about “them” out to get us. “Them” could mean the government, aliens, Satan, cancer, mind-controlling radio waves… The guy was obviously very, very unhinged.
It would be absolutely, literally impossible for our public figures to own responsibility for the chance that something they say might trigger a psychotic person, because it could be ANYTHING. It’s not like the person is just doing fine until someone sets them off. They are set off by their neurochemicals and they seek out things in the world to fit into their delusional system. This guy interpreted “In God We Trust” as the government trying to force God on him. The problem is not with the words; the problem is the brain chemistry that takes things and twists them to fit the delusions.
An example… I had a very pleasant client who was relatively able to function in the world unless you asked about her family. She firmly believed she was married to Michael Jackson, and they were estranged because “they” were keeping him from her, and he was speaking to her through the lyrics of his songs. He was telling her not to worry, he wasn’t really having an affair with Billie Jean. She was just a girl who said he was the one, but the kid was not his son. He still loved her. So should Michael Jackson have censored his music because a psychotic woman in Florida was using his words to further her delusions? If she’d hurt herself or gone and shot someone named Billie Jean, would Michael Jackson be responsible? Of course not. This is the same kind of thing.
We should be asking more about how a kid known to have major mental health issues who’d had past run-ins with the law slipped through the cracks so completely.
That is a VERY good question. This reminds me of the VA college shooter.
What worries me is all the talk about how this indicates that “people with mental health problems” shoulnd’t be allowed to have guns – what mental health problems are people going to want to classify as too indicative of mental instability? Post-partum depression? Being a recovering alcoholic who’s been sober for twenty years? Having attempted suicide? I’m just worried that this whole thing is going to lead to a witch hunt where the psychological issues of people the Left doesn’t like are going to be classified as “dangerous” in an attempt to restrict access to guns.

You have, with no knowledge whatsoever, impugned honest, hard-working, patriotic Americans throughout the country and brave Veteran’s who have seen fit to preform their duties in the most honorable way. You blamed the “Tea Party”. The alleged shooter, could have no possible connection to the Tea Party Movement, unless burning the American flag has become their cause, du joir. Additionally, this person is not and has never been a member of the Armed Forces.
Your judgement, in this matter, shows a complete lack of the character and integrity necessary for the office that you hold. Your hateful rhetoric has demeaned the deaths involved and further inflamed a seriously dangerous situation. You have sullied their memory, the survivors. the entire State of Arizona and all the people of this proud nation. As a retired Marine and a member of both major Veteran’s Organizations, I call on you to apologize to all Americans, in particular Sarah Palin and all our nation’s veterans, for the despicable lack of truth and intelligence you have displayed during this tragedy. Let it be known that I will work tirelessly with the Arizona chapters of both the VFW and the American Legion to bring about your removal from office, in the next election cycle.

As a retired Navy officer, I find your slander of veterans to be egregiously reprehensible. What an absolutely omniscient individual you are that minutes after an unknown person opened fired on an unsuspecting crowd, you were able to ascertain, with your rapier wit, that it must have been a veteran of the Afghanistan war who was responsible. I have never heard of you before in my life, so I have no idea what your personal history is, but let me take a wild guess, based on your unfounded and slanderous utterings that you never performed a single day of military service in your life. If you had, you would know that as a group, there are no more honorable and law abiding citizens in this country, most especially veterans who have actually seen combat duty. Having experienced what it truly is to be at war, with their lives on the line, they know the value of a peaceful and law abiding society that, up to now, has been the hallmark of our great country.
In addition, I find your allegation that the “Tea Party” movement would support such an obvious violation of every tenet of their beliefs to be astonishingly stupid and self-serving. At no time has any member of the “Tea Party” movement ever advocated any sort of violence, ever! They advocate for a reduction in the overreach of a bloated federal government that sees itself as no longer bound by the Constitution of the United States of America. A document, by the way, had you ever served a day in the military, you would know that you must take an oath to support and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Apparently you weren’t required to take a similar oath when you became a legislator in Arizona, because you seem to be remarkably uninformed about such things.
You, Linda Lopez, owe every single one of us veterans an abject and heartfelt apology for impugning our honor and maligning us as a group. When you slander one of us, you slander us all. I suppose it is hopeless to think that a contemptible person such as youself will do the right thing and issue a public apology to all of us whom you so baselessly accuse of such a heinous crime. I am appalled that you serve in a position of authority when you show such a lack of judgement and maturity as one would assume would be required in order for you to fulfill your responsibilities effectively. I am appalled that your consitutients are saddled with such an unsatisfactory representative. Be assured, if I lived in your district, I would be advocating for your immediate removal from office. Since I do not, I can only feel sorry for the poor people who live in your district, that they are so cheated in the individual that was elected to represent them. They have my deepest sympathy.

The government memo, obtained by Fox News, notes that Loughlin has no direct connection, but “strong suspicion is being directed at” a group called American Renaissance, a group that Loughner mentioned in some of his internet postings.
“The group’s ideology is anti government, anti immigration, anti ZOG (Zionist Occupational Government), anti Semitic,” the memo says, adding that Congresswoman Giffords is the first Jewish female elected to federal office in Arizona.
American Renaissance has since denied the government’s suggestion that Loughner was associated the group. On Sunday, the head of the organization responded to the claims, calling DHS’ assumptions “scurrilous,” and denying the government’s “anti-Semitic” charges.

This is Uncle Jimbo who TRIED to stay out of this whole thing as long as he could, but he’s come under fire (on, no, can I still say that?) like everyone else. Well it came out that this shooter felt that Giffords was not “LEFT ENOUGH” for him…What does Ms. Lopez do with THAT one? Oh I forgot…She only knows how to exercise that phenomenal quality of “selective hearing”.
She needs a refund on her degree. She definitely got short-changed.
It is so refreshing to have someone like Linda who has all the answers before anyone else, and before any investigation is done-it saves me time and effort to check this all out for myself. May God forgive her for adding to the heartache and the STUFF she is stirring up-is it possible that she is causing someone else’s death because of her irrational remarks?
This is a letter I wrote Lopez…I hope everyone is writing her.
Dear Congresswoman Lopez,
I know you and Rep. Gifford were friends and you are having a tough time right now. It is hard hearing a friend has been shot and is on their death bed. A promising life destroyed by senseless violence. Imagine seeing it first hand? Now you know what it is like to be a veteran of a foreign war.
Now that you have experienced what a veteran must deal with on a daily basis maybe you will think twice before jumping to conclusions and blaming a veteran for this or any other senseless act of violence.
Everyone makes mistakes but when speaking to the country your mistakes are amplified. Please do not hesitate to use the same national forum to apologize to our veterans. Its the least you can do.
