Illegal Immigration
Fast and Furious: It’s D day for Holder
The headline should really read “It’s T day for Holder” because today is the day that our lying and devious attorney general goes before the congressional committee to testify (once again) about Fast and Furious. Remember when he last testified before the committee, back in May, he told everyone that he had only heard about Fast and Furious a “couple of weeks” before but information discovered since his testimony suggests that he knew about it way before that. According to sources close to the investigation, the committee doesn’t exactly have a “smoking gun” piece of evidence that says that Holder is behind the whole thing but they do have a mountain of circumstantial evidence and conflicting testimony from other witnesses that points to the fact that Holder is either lying through his teeth (and thus committing perjury) about whether he knew about this scandal or he is the absolute most incompetent Attorney General ever for not knowing what his underlings were doing down on our border with Mexico. Either way…many on Capitol Hill think he should go.
The Daily Caller obtained an advanced transcript of Holder’s testimony and as predicted by many…he’s going to push for tighter gun control measures in the US because of Fast and Furious and he’s going to blame the local authorities for cooking up the misguided scheme.
Here’s a little preview of what he is supposed to say today…
“Today, I would like to correct some of the inaccurate — and irresponsible — accusations surrounding Fast and Furious,” Holder’s prepared testimony reads. “Some of the overheated rhetoric might lead you to believe that this local, Arizona-based operation was somehow the cause of the epidemic of gun violence in Mexico. In fact, Fast and Furious was a flawed response to, not the cause of, the flow of illegal guns from the United States into Mexico.”
In his testimony, Holder also advocates for new gun-control laws that he says would have halted, or at least prevented, Operation Fast and Furious. Holder echoes California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s comments from last week, when she argued that stricter gun laws would have stopped law enforcement agents from facilitating the sale of guns to Mexican drug cartels.
Wait a minute….is he actually going to say that we need tighter gun control laws so that the ATF can’t pull off another debacle like Fast and Furious? In other words, we need to revise our 2nd amendment to protect ourselves from our own ATF?
Holy cow!
Will the insanity ever stop?
Fast and Furious and the Alabama immigration law
I knew that someday soon, the illegal immigrants would use the “fear” card as a reason for staying in the US. That day has come. As the new and tough immigration law kicks into action in Alabama, many illegal immigrants are claiming that they can’t go back to Mexico because they are scared of the escalating violence among the Mexican drug cartels. Illegal parents are signing powers of attorney to legal US citizens …giving them temporary custody of their children…should they get deported. Instead of keeping the family intact, they are willing to give up custody of their children (who, of course, were born here illegally so they could be US citizens) to acquaintances.
(AP) Cristian Gonzalez, 28, said she has informally asked the manager of the rental property where she lives to take care of her 10-year-old daughter should she and her husband be arrested because they are illegal immigrants. The girl, a U.S. citizen who has medals for making good grades, needs to finish school in America and is deeply rooted in Alabama, she said.
Gonzalez said their other three kids are too young to remain and will go back to Mexico with her and her husband even though they are U.S. citizens.
“We’re afraid to go back to Mexico because of the drugs, the cartels and the killings,” Gonzalez said. “And we are afraid to stay here because of the law.”
Mexican authorities have struggled in the fight against drug cartels known for carrying out brutal killings as they try to tighten control over territory. Authorities say that country’s drug war has claimed thousands of lives.
Hmmmm…it’s convenient that Mexican drug lords are now so well armed with US assault weapons. Of course the illegals are scared to go back to Mexico. It’s a bloody mess south of the border thanks to Eric Holder and his crew. He’s created a nightmare scenario so that….
1. He can justify pushing for the elimination of our 2nd amendment right and…
2. Illegal immigrants can seek asylum here in the US for fear of falling victim to Mexican drug cartels.
It’s called killing 2 Obama birds with one assault rifle.
Go Bama! Roll Tide! DOJ trying to stop Alabama’s immigration law.
Sorry about the football reference. I’m a big Bama fan.
Fox is reporting that the Department of Justice, at the request of Obama, has filed an appeal to block Alabama’s new immigration law.
The Obama administration asked an appeals court on Friday to block the enforcement of Alabama’s strict immigration law — widely considered to be the toughest in the nation — arguing it invites discrimination against foreign-born citizens and legal immigrants and is at odds with federal policy.
What federal policy? You mean the one that the government won’t enforce? Oh, they must mean the federal policy that is to “look the other way and allow millions and millions of illegal aliens to flood over our border so that they can take advantage of our country and push us to the brink of bankruptcy.”
Alabama is ignoring the appeal. Woo Hoo!
The Justice Department’s appeal said parts of the law conflict with federal rules, and that “attempts to drive aliens `off the grid’ will only impede the removal process established by federal law.” It also said the legislation could impact diplomatic relations with foreign countries.”Alabama is not in a position to answer to other nations for the consequences of its policy,” it said. “That is the responsibility of the federal government, which speaks for all the states and must ensure that the consequences of one state’s foray in to the realm of immigration law are not visited upon the nation as a whole.”
What? Did they just say that this legislation could impact the diplomatic relations that we have with foreign countries? Really?
Did Eric Holder and Obama worry about diplomatic relations when they authorized Fast and Furious…allowing hundreds of assault weapons to walk into Mexico so that Mexican citizens could be murdered? I bet that did wonders for our relationship with Mexico.
You would think that the Justice Department would want to lay low right now and NOT get involved with anything Mexican but I guess this is the obligatory liberal pro-illegal game plan so Holder has to get involved.
God forbid a rogue state like Alabama would actually want to try and defend it’s sovereignty.
Go Bama Go! We’re with you 100%
Now Hiring in Alabama
The effects of Alabama’s new strict immigration law are starting to be felt. Since a federal judge upheld many of the laws key parts last week, law enforcement agents will begin enforcing the law this week. This means that officials can start checking the immigration status of any child enrolled in school. This has caused a rather large exodus of Hispanic families from the state. Late last week, schools were reporting Hispanic students mysteriously absent from class. Some of the families actually came into the school offices to officially withdraw their children from the schools. This has caused a panic among teachers and businesses that employ Hispanic workers. Alabama has a large agricultural and poultry industry. I’m interested in which state these families are migrating. Will they all head in the same direction? I wouldn’t think it would be Georgia since it also has passed a fairly strict immigration law. Possibly Mississippi or Tennessee? Will other states follow Alabama’s lead? The court system will be tied up for years from all the appeals.
So… if this is happening in Alabama, it stands to reason that if the United States enforced the laws that are already on our books then there would be a mass exodus of illegals back to Mexico….but we all know that will never happen because there are too many law makers (on both sides of the aisle) that are very happy to continue to support the illegal market.
So…for all of those people that are part of Alabama’s 10% unemployed, the Alabama poultry and farming industries are now hiring.
Fast and Furious and our Department of Obstructing Justice.
Fast and Furious weapons were found at yet another violent crime scene…this time in the US.
(CBS) Arizona state police revealed yesterday that two guns from Fast and Furious were found in an arrest involving two Mexican men who assaulted detectives outside Phoenix in 2010. Nobody was seriously hurt.
Fast and furious is the operation in which ATF allowed thousands of weapons to “walk” into the hands of suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels.
It’s unclear why the year-old case and its link to Fast and Furious were revealed now, with the apparent blessing of ATF headquarters.
News of this case set off a wave of confusion among Congressional investigators who have tried unsuccessfully to identify additional violent crimes in the U.S. linked to which Fast and Furious. They say the Justice Department still hasn’t told them about the 2010 Phoenix case, despite their ongoing written requests for such information
These guns are going to continue to pop up all over Mexico and the Southwest US because there are still at least a thousand or so assault weapons unaccounted for and NO ONE in the DOJ is talking. Suddenly the ATF is admitting that this last episode in Arizona did involve F&F weapons. Why would they suddenly be open about that piece of information? Perhaps Rep. Issa and Sen. Grassley are getting perilously close to opening Pandora’s box and the ATF wants to be on the right side of the fence when the whole story breaks? Maybe an official in the ATF will be offered immunity if they fork over info implicating high ranking officials within the Justice Department? Would the ATF do that if they are a branch of the DOJ?
Can someone answer these questions for me……
Isn’t it obstruction of justice to withhold information about a crime?
Wouldn’t you or I go to jail if we withheld information from investigators?
Why isn’t Eric Holder in jail?
In the words of Sir Walter Scott….
Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practise to deceive!
Fast and Furious and Immigration Reform…could they be linked?
As the investigation continues into the scandalous DOJ’s Fast and Furious Mexican gun walking scheme, I can’t help but wonder if there was also another reason that Eric Holder wanted thousands of assault weapons to end up in the hands of Mexican thugs. I’m not a big conspiracy theorist but could it be possible that by arming drug cartel members in Mexico… causing an escalation in the drug war… it would be easier for illegal immigrants here in the US to seek asylum? After all…if Mexico is a war torn country how could we possibly deport anyone back into that mayhem? Picture poor Ramone and his wife Maria and their 3 small children trembling in fear at the thought of being sent back to their homeland to face these vicious thugs. Those of us who want something done about the Mexican invasion would be branded as monsters.
The US law on asylum is pretty specific. In order to be granted asylum you must first be classified as a refugee. Each year the president and congress have to agree on the number of refugees that will be allowed and only a certain amount will be allowed from certain regions of the world.
The President and the State Department have a lot of control as to who is deemed a refugee. They have the power to declare a certain group of people refugees (without the consent of Congress). Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) introduced a bill this year called the Refugee Protection Act. Here’s what part of the bill says…
‘(B)(i) The President, upon a recommendation of the Secretary of State made in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security, and after appropriate consultation, may designate specifically defined groups of aliens–
‘(I) whose resettlement in the United States is justified by humanitarian concerns or is otherwise in the national interest; and
‘(II) who–
‘(aa) share common characteristics that identify them as targets of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion or of other serious harm; or
‘(bb) having been identified as targets as described in item (aa), share a common need for resettlement due to a specific vulnerability.
I realize that the millions and millions of illegals that are here all couldn’t possibly be granted refugee status but… thousands and thousands could quietly be approved and on their way to citizenship. I think that if the drug war in Mexico got bad enough, the democrats would introduce sweeping legislation that would grant millions of illegals temporary refugee status ( for humanitarian reasons) thus laying the path for US citizenship.
All this could have been possible before the lid was blown off Fast and Furious. The ATF officials in the US lied repeatedly to ATF field agents in Mexico about what was really going on. At one point, assault weapons were literally flooding across the border and our ATF attache to Mexico, Darren Gil, started complaining to his superiors in the US… saying basically “what the hell is going on?” The ATF officials in the US were afraid that Gil was going to say something to the Mexican government about Fast and Furious. Gil claims that he didn’t know the extent of Fast and Furious and for months he was told that the operation was being shut down….but it wasn’t.
It wasn’t until Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed with a Fast and Furious weapon that the “you know what” hit the fan. It’s almost too much to take in. There are new details revealed almost every day by the investigation. I know that Obama is not too happy about the timing of all of this. This will possibly continue into the 2012 elections.
I have only found one reference linking Fast and Furious to illegal immigration reform and it was from one lone blogger who has the same curiosity that I do about it.
Is it a crazy to think that this administration would flood Mexico with assault weapons in order to escalate the drug war so that illegal immigrants could get a path to citizenship by seeking asylum?
This administration is quickly proving that nothing is too far fetched for them.
What do you think?
Proof that Obama knew about Project Gunrunner?
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PNhYk9NuNc&feature=player_embedded
(h/t HillBuzz reader Theresa…thanks!)
Well….David Ogden says that Obama ordered Project Gunrunner (and kicked in $10 million of stimulus money). Ogden specifically mentions “gun tracing” at the end of the clip. Sending thousands of assault rifles over the border to be traced to narco-thugs is the essence of Project Gunrunner. I know what the White House will claim….they didn’t know that the ATF was going to send assault rifles into Mexico as part of the project but who really believes that? In the military, if you are in command of a ship or battalion, you take responsibility for all those who serve under you…therefore, Obama is responsible for what is done by the DOJ (which covers the DEA and ATF).
So…is this video proof that Obama had some knowledge of what was happening with Project Gunrunner?
What are your thoughts?
Mexican national scheduled to be executed in Texas today
UPDATE to the UPDATE: Humberto Leal was put to death this evening in Huntsville, TX. He was pronounced dead at 7:21 ET. His last words were to apologize to his family and his victim’s family for causing so much pain. Hopefully, Adria’s family can have some peace.
UPDATE: The US Supreme Court voted 5-4 to not stop the execution of Leal-Garcia. The execution is set to take place anytime after 6pm tonight (Texas time)….so….anytime now.(thanks to wannacruize for this info).
There’s a lot going on with Mexico lately. Illegal immigration laws…Fast and Furious…and now this little story. Today in Texas, Umberto Leal Garcia is scheduled to be executed for the brutal 1995 rape and murder of 16 year old Adria Sauceda. It only took the jury 45 minutes to convict him because the prosecution had a mountain of evidence against Garcia. He has been sitting on death row ever since and tonight is the big night….but there’s a slight problem. Garcia is a Mexican national…even though he has been living in the US since he was 2 years old (yes..illegal immigrant). According to the 1963 UN Vienna Treaty, foreign nationals must be informed of their right to contact the embassy if they are arrested. Garcia (a Mexican citizen) wasn’t informed of this right….and he didn’t have to be because the US doesn’t have a law that enforces the treaty domestically. Also, a 2008 U.S. Supreme Court decision stipulates that the legal support of a foreign government — or governments — is not required in deciding whether to execute a foreign national convicted of a capital offense. The 6-3 majority ruled that state court judges are given the discretion to decide how a sentence is carried out. This is how the US was able to execute Jose Ernesto Medellin in 2008. There is a bill currently pending in Congress that would enforce the treaty and Garcia has petitioned the Supreme Court for a stay so that the bill can pass….this would trigger a retrial for Garcia.
The Texas Board of Pardons and their Court of Criminal Appeals have already denied the stay. Last Friday, the Obama administration petitioned Texas to grant a stay until Congress can pass the bill. Of course, Gov. Rick Perry can grant the stay (but will he?).
Hmmm…what to do? No one is claiming that this monster is innocent. They want him to “get off” on a technicality. He’s an illegal immigrant who, for 36 years, has enjoyed all the benefits of a US citizen (including our justice system) but now suddenly he wants to be treated like a Mexican.
Will Texas cave to political pressure?
I sure hope not.
Fast and Furious just got more interesting
I know I’ve been doing a lot of posting on the Fast and Furious scandal and some of you might not be as enthralled as I am with it but I think this is heading downhill quickly for the DOJ (and thus Eric Holder) and I can’t wait to see where this will all end up. It’s like a great mystery movie where you watch and watch and wait to see “who done it”. We all know “who done it” here but will they get away with it and will it eventually end up in Obama’s lap?
Breaking news out late yesterday afternoon is that Kenneth Melson, Director of the ATF, is singing like a little bird and his song isn’t exactly music to the DOJ, ATF or the FBI’s ears. Melson was scheduled to meet next week with Rep. Issa and Grassley, who are heading up the investigation by the House Oversight Committee. Next week’s meeting would also have included lawyers from the DOJ (so they could keep an eye on him and do some damage control). Instead, Melson opted to have a secret meeting with Issa and Grassley so he could say what was really on his mind….and there was a lot on his mind.
Here’s a brief little summary of things discussed in the July 4th meeting…
So several other government agencies were also doing concurrent operations involving gun sales to Mexican thugs? Doesn’t the DOJ oversee the ATF and the DEA? Apparently the Arizona US Attorney Dennis Burke (an Obama appointee) is up to his eyeballs in the scandal because his office provided legal advice to the ATF during Fast and Furious. No matter which way you go with this fiasco….all roads lead back to the DOJ and Eric Holder.
I would love to be a fly on the wall in Holder’s office when he is discussing what the DOJ will do next.
Wouldn’t Project Gunrunner make a great movie? Starring Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford and….who else?
Mexican officials want US officials behind Fast and Furious tried in Mexico.
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ircWNLcFBVI
Mexico is pissed….and with good reason. The more that is known about the Fast and Furious fiasco, the more apparent it is that the US screwed up and allowed 2500 assault rifles and revolvers to be transported into Mexico by thugs. These guns were supposed to be traced to high level mob-type gun traffickers (and drug cartel members) but for some reason….ATF agents just sat back and let the bad guys be bad guys and in the process, numerous people were murdered with these weapons (including a US border patrol agent…RIP Brian Terry ). Now Mexican officials want the ones responsible for Operation Fast and Furious (aka Project Gunrunner) to not only be tried in the US but also in Mexico.
Ay caramba! This could get very interesting…especially with 2012 right around the corner.
The investigation should go as far up as Obama himself but we all know that “The One” is bubble-wrapped and probably won’t be touched. At the very least, Eric Holder’s name should be listed at the top of the page of usual suspects. Holder remains eerily silent lately….trying to fly below the radar. I bet he hasn’t slept much lately.
Will Obama throw Holder under the bus? My guess is yes.
I hope Holder likes tequila and tacos.
