Catch Grey Gardens on HBO (a movie whose sequel could easily film in Nairobi)
If you haven’t seen Grey Gardens on HBO yet, it’s really worth your time.
If you don’t have HBO, rent the original 1975 Grey Gardens documentary, and then wait for the HBO film to come to video too. The Broadway production last year was also very good.
It’s the story of the Bouvier-Beales, relatives of Jackie Kennedy, who descended into abject squalor in their summer home, the estate known as Grey Gardens, despite being related to a family that very often tells other people how they should live their lives — but has a problem taking care of its own.
It’s similar to the squalor the current president allows his own family to live in back in Kenya, or in Boston, in the case of his aunt. Looks like all the faux-Camelot marketing and the Portuguese water dog are not the only things he has in common with the Kennedys after all.

Black Americans increasingly disappointed with Obama’s performance as President

Great video, but what is with the weird graphics?
Also, liked some of the related videos-like the radio show interview with the ambassador to Kenya saying the pretender in chief’s birthplace is a national shrine. Where is that damn birth certificate? Or the health records? Or the college records? . .
We saw it the other day. It really was good….they did a great job.
After your first write up I checked out some of the clips of the documentary and was looking forward to seeing it. Luckily, my husband had read a write up about the movie in the USA Today that piqued his interest too.
All too real those choices we make to honor our family. Whether it be supporting them or ignoring them.
Jackie is one cold lady to let family live like that while married to a billionaire. One or two days off from her shopping sprees and she could have hired a maid for the year to help them keep the place up.
It seems she provided just enough help to quiet the papers and then returned to shopping.
I remember when all this hit the newspapers and television news.Yes I really am that old!lol Actually I was just out of high school at the time but I do remember that it was an intriguing story. The press was kind of hard on Jackie and her sister and rightly so.
I am amazed (well not so much any more) that nothing is ever said about Barky’s relatives living in squalor or here in the country illegally. They really do shield him and only report the good stuff.Guess they are either bought and paid off or they are afraid of being called racists.Maybe both.
It was very good.I saw it Saturday night on HBO.I am not a fan of Drew Barrymore, but she was excellent.
It was and is an all too familiar story. But to allow family to live in filth when one has more than the means to help is unforgivable.
Thank you for alerting us to the time and place of the showing.
