CALIFORNIA GROUND REPORT

Dear HillBuzz:
I live in a mid-size college city in Northern California. Our political demographic is divided between the more conservative agricultural and business communities and the liberal college and education communities. In most cases, locally at least, the conservative side carries more sway. Unfortunately for us, the larger metropolitan areas of the state usually dictate the overall outcome and we are considered a guaranteed blue state.
I have spent the last several days asking people I work with about their thoughts on the upcoming election. We have had the same republican representative for about 25 years and it appears that will remain the same this year. He has never had a serious Democratic challenger and that is definitely not the case this year. My college student assistant says that all of her professors are encouraging people to vote, but lamenting the fact there is basically bad candidate 1 or bad candidate 2 to choose from in both the governor and senate races. She also said that everyone she knows says they are voting for Meg Whitman and no one really wants to discuss the senate race. I had a business meeting this morning with several small business people and they were for Whitman and Fiorina and all said they knew of no one voting for Brown or Boxer (or at least no one who will admit it). Many of us have no sense of what will happen next week – the polls are showing different leads that what people here are saying.
There are no yard signs for any of the state races, just the local school board and city council races. On television, there are tons of governor commericals for both sides, many times one after the other. There are quite a bit fewer senate ads, but with Fiorina having more running than Boxer.
We don’t have early voting, unless you mail in an absentee ballot, so Tuesday cannot come soon enough for me. Go Meg & Carly!

Secret underground video of Jerry Brown–California is SO SCREWED (I live here and I can see it coming…unless there’s a miracle):
http://lgstarr.blogspot.com/2010/10/omg-secret-underground-video-exposes.html
You mean to tell me,he is going to be elected? i hope not,and why is this a secret?
That video is years old … notice if you will that Brown had hair and the corners of his mouth weren’t yet pointing at this feet. Meg Whitman is using it as one of her ads … released it a day or so ago.
Oops, nearly forgot … was traveling on a busy 4-lane street and saw that someone has erected a professionally made sign in his/her front yard. It’s bright red with white letters and is at least 8-feet square. It reads
STOP BOXER 11/2. People driving by were honking like crazy!
Hi Calif.granny,i live in Chino Hills CA. i see Calrly and Meg signs all over the city.
Wow!!!!!!!!!! If Califonian voters elect this guy they get what they deserve!
There are some things that might influence the undecideds:
1. If they lived through JB as governor in the past, will they really want him to be governor again?
2.Boxer’s deal with the Indian tribe and the casino that raked in millions for her son Doug.
3. The Zucker ad if it has been aired could make an impact with its ridicule.
4. Brown’s foot in mouth disease, and Whitman needs to push Brown saying that he didn’t have a plan and that he was lying.
Anything else, including Brown’s affiliation with Castro etc. would be a flop. This might also be true with regard to Boxer helping the traitors give comfort to the enemy in Iraq.
Well, actally Los Angeles County has one of the highest drop out rates in the US because of the high number of hispanic immirgants. There are some counties with moderate levels of education, Ventura, Orange, and now even Riverside, and San Diego that all have less high school drop outs than La. People sterotype Calif-the Dems areas ar not always high in education and the Republican areas are not always low in education. Swing city Irvine has a higher education level than most ciites in La County except for some liberal higher class cities in La like Santa Monica and those in the Bay area.
Actually, Orange County Ca is the opposed, Democratics do better in more poorly educated hispanic cities like Anaheim and Santa Ana-that’s Loretta Sanchez’s district. Some wealthly leftist in Irvine because of the Unverisity. But Mission Viejo around 4o B.A. tends to vote more Republican
I live in Orange County, CA. Same thing is true here. Although Orange County is a very conservative county, we are surrounded by Democrats and so no matter who we vote for, we always end up blue. I’m voting for Whitman, who is the worst of the two, imo. I was around when Brown was governor the first time. We don’t need him again.
Hi neighbor, Northern Califoria. I have hesitated to report because Ag country is pretty quiet this election. We’re waiting to see if the big cities in the south region turn out to vote. I don’t even know
anybody that cares to discuss politics except my family and we are rabid right leaners. We are praying for an intelligent change in California. I’m delivering my vote in person to a friendly polling place. I have to absentee vote because “they” closed my polling place. I miss voting. I hate absentee votes! Hurry up, Tuesday. Yay, Meg and Carly.
I am in Nor Cal also, and there are signs everywhere for everything, it seems. Around my town, there are a whole bunch of homemade (but nicely done) signs that say “Want Change? Stop the Spending! Vote Nov. 2″ and “Restore America to We the People” they are on huge plywood pieces and there must be 5 or 6 of them around our semi rural city. I am seeing ever increasing numbers of conservative bumper stickers, and lots and lots of flag stickers on cars too, which is great.
Filling out my ballot tonight to drop off on Tuesday. Can’t wait!
I heard that Loretta Sanchez might not make it. Now THAT would be a miracle! A gift!
I don’t believe the polls because no one has ever tried to poll me. I live in a well known suburb of Los Angeles. Listed telephone. No reason not to be polled in all the years I’ve been a registered voter.
Los Angeles and San Francisco are loaded toward the Democrats. As are our overall state registrations (data available at the Secretary of State’s website). But Arnold got past this barrier when no one could stand the thought of any more Gray Davis or the impending doom of Cruz Bustamente or Phil Angelides. So…….we’ll see.
Central Valley farmers are fed up with Boxer’s environmental policies that have cost them the water required to maintain their lands and businesses.
I cannot imagine a young person voting for the cadaverous Brown or the strident Boxer, but maybe they just mindlessly go for the (D). ???
So, go Meg! Go Carly! They represent Change we can count on. Right now that is our Hope.
The key to Whitman’s and Fiorina’s success lies with the now-25% who are either registered Independent or are Declined to States.
I’m in Sacramento and unfortunatley the only sign I have seen is a huge “Barbara Boxer 2010″ sign on the fence of a very low income apartment complex I drive by every day.
