Bad news for the Cocktail Party establishment: Mittens Romney’s big donors not backing another presidential run for him
Mittens Romney is a very nice person. He’s polite and friendly, has very nice hair, brushes his teeth after every meal, and is the man responsible for doing to Massachusetts what Obamacare will do to the rest of the country.
Whoops.
While the rest of the above wins him points with a lot of people, especially cosmetologists, dental hygienists, and product development at Mattel, that last one, Romneycare, means his 2012 presidential bid is dead on arrival.
The Cocktail Party GOP establishment needs to understand that YOU CAN’T IN 2012 RUN AGAINST OBAMA THE MAN WHO DID THINGS SIMILAR TO OBAMA, things people HATE.
A lot of Romney’s big donors realize this, and don’t feel like wasting their contributions on a losing Romney 2012 bid.
The problem we all face is this, and I never see this written about on other sites: the Cocktail Party establishment has people on the ground in every state. These people control the GOP organizations at the city, county, and state level. These are the men and women who are not especially concerned with winning elections, because in many cases, winning means having to do the hard work of governing, and they don’t want to do that.
Instead, they just want to go to cocktail parties, give speeches, pat themselves on the back, run their friends for office, do whatever Democrats want because that guarantees favorable media coverage, then after they lose the election, get ready to do it all again by running another friend for an office no one really expects that person to win.
When one Cocktail Party establishment loses, the Cocktail Party never thinks much about WHY that person lost and does not adjust its plans for future elections accordingly. Instead, the Cocktail Person just advances the next man on “The List”, whoever’s turn it is to be the next nominee. Some of these guys, like Mittens Romney, have been waiting for “their turn” since the 1970s.
It is a very orderly, predictable system the Cocktail Party establishment and way too many conservatives in general LOVE.
Not minutes after John McCain lost in 2008, the Cocktail Party started pushing for Romney 2012. Because it is Romney’s turn, they say.
Thousands of young GOP staffers, consultants, and aspiring politicians bet their careers on Romney 2012, because they know how the Cocktail Party establishment game works. They wanted to get in early with Romney, so they would be given big jobs with the Romney 2012 campaign. They feel like their futures and careers depend on Romney becoming the nominee, though I doubt any of them believe he will win the general election.
The only thing that can and will stop these staffers on the ground already from successfully pushing Romney toward a destined-to-lose candidacy is if the big Republican donors put the brakes on this madness and refuse to fund any of it.
Some day, enough will be enough when it comes to business as usual in the Party of Stupid.
Let’s hope that day has now come.

Obama > McCain, McCain > Romney. Therefore, Obama > Romney.
Why waste money on a self-defeating candidate?
Some years ago I went out after work and met an acquaintance/friend who would later become a very prominent Republican. He was with a Republican who was at the time very prominent nationally, and they were with a little known Republican who was nonetheless a mover and shaker.
Naturally the discussion was about politics, and I expressed my conservative/libertarian/non-leftist pov about whatever issue.
At some point the to-be prominent Republican, referring to me, turned to the prominent Republican and said: “He really believes this stuff”. Wow, just wow.
When I lived in Massachusetts, the tiny Republican Party was about evenly divided between normal, average, hard-working conservatives and wealthy, blue blooded liberals. Those rich folks truly had no clue, and it was amazing they even bothered to be Republicans.
The Cocktail Party has nothing to do with Lincoln or the founding principles of the Republican Party. They are for the most part wealthy folks who see a political advantage to being Republican, no more. Like George Bush, their single principle is noblesse oblige. And like George Bush, they are nice, decent folks. They simply are out of touch and clueless about real life.
There was a time when he could have backed away from Romneycare as a great learning experience in what not to do. Sadly, that time is past. He would make a great addition to the next cabinet.

We know Romney has already been pre-ordained by the majority of the LSM…I think the people that disagree w/us understand that their time may be up by… the groundswell of support that is all things Reagan/teaparty….versus the Rockefeller/Romney…..which, although loosely, is associated too closely with Obama. The teaparty republicans are a huge threat as all recent polling has shown with the shift Independents/moderates have made to the idea of all things smaller for gov’t. Thats why the media includung HuffPo have it already narrowed down to a few people in which they are digging for anything to keep their savior propped up in the eyes of the left and what they consider intellegent people…To them it is impossible Not to have a non-ivy leaguer in the Oval office…it is so unseemly. Our people are mocked because of attractive qualities to the common man which is what most of us are…and that stretches somewhat over idealogical lines…That would be disastrous for the LEFT since they are such a small, irrelevant part of any discussion. What is wrong with being a graduate from a midwestern university, going to church, being an attractive intelligent woman (that especially is so harmful to democracy)having a normal family and the problems that go with it. These are the kind of people we are…Joe the Plumbers, teachers , auto workers, gay people, hispanics, catholics, jewish….It is terrifying to the left that we would want someone like us in the WH….We dont want the Messiah…..we want someone that we know is not perfect and doesnt beleive that they are. there are so many out there that would fit the bill even if Sarah doesnt run, and I think it is someone who hasnt even been thought of yet ala Sarah in 2008…..I hope we can be ahead of the curve this time that if it is someone not vetted by the media that we will be able to counter the lies from them in order to create a false history once again of an honorable intelligent, and caring person. The Romney/Rockefeller republicans better beware….We mean business and dont care about your history, whether you you are next in line , or not…You are done as much as the LSM doesnt want it to be…After the last election they see the handwriting on the wall…They now know we are living, breathing beings interested in Real change….WE ARE NOT ASTROTURF !!!!!!!
Sorry about the rant…I’m so pissed the way Sarah, Michelle Bachmannn, and others are treated by the media…TOTAL lack of respect!
…..I’m going to bet a beer !!!!!
You are spot on about the Cocktail Party. For instance, do you know *why* exactly the Massachusetts Miracle was limited to Scott Brown?
Because the state party there allowed the Dems to outspend them by more than 2-to-1:

That’s the Cocktail Party. Do enough to make sure everyone knows you’re trying, and aren’t you great in such a blue state and here’s some money. Let enough slide so that you never win and actually have to do stuff.
“Stop asking what you can do, and start doing what you can.”
I predict Romney drops out after the Michigan primary. The guy is a loser. He got out the governorship of Massachussets after 3 years knowing that state was about to come bankrupted. He left Massachussets with 45% approval.
Romney is not going anywhere and the establishment knows it. Other that is a one hit wonder is Scott Brown and Rand Paul is lucky his is from the South because otherwise he would have zero chances to be reelected in Kentucky with his whacko stances.
Like Joy Behar said: “Come to New York or Massachussets with your crap. I dare you”
meanwhile – the WaPo is featuring Romney and other cocktail party members fundraising efforts (Sarah gets only a mid-story mid-paragraph mention – is it February yet?)
it say his donors comprise a dozen or so large-check writers such as the Marriotts (Mormon) and Johnson & Johnson Heir/Jets Owner Robert Wood Johnson IV)

I like Romney as a person, but I’m glad that he’s lost backing. Things and management have gotta change for improvement. Whether Trent Lott likes it or not [Remember he said that the winning TEA Party/Independent Conservative candidates had to be "co-opted" by the GOP establishment?].
The Republican Bluebloods and Cocktailers can’t stand that the commoners are actually demanding that the Republican Party actually stand for conservatism. And if that weren’t audacious enough, they’re outraged that a “girl” is at the helm of the movement..”Girl” being Sarah Palin. How dare she? How “uppity” of her!
The Moronmney bots’ mob has called me four times in the last moth. I greeted their calls for camapaign donations with gales of laughter and slurs of RINO & cocktail party clueless fools, and not very polite do not call again.
I guess the cucumber sandwiches will be a little thinner this time.
Dead on assessment. The health care debacle is an anvil around Obama’s neck. We have one shot to stop it – 2012. If Romney is the nominee, any attempt to raise the issue creates the flip flopper line (“First he was for it, now he is against it…”). If the issue is avoided/not exploited, you lose the excitement of the base.
This is so elementary that I can’t believe it has to be said. Romney lost his shot at the presidency in 2012 as soon as Obamacare was signed into law. Something fun to ponder. The Dems do think ahead. I wonder if they, knowing the Repub tendency, gambled that Romney would be the nominee in 2012 when they passed the law thereby shielding Obama from the issue?
Spot on. It’s odd that the unions hate the GOP because the GOP does on a political level what the unions do on a working level — rely on seniority rather than merit. McCain is a brave and honorable American but he was 70 years old and could no more have beaten a young, vibrant, media-backed candidate (Hillary OR Obama) then he can be the first astronaut on Mars.
