America Saved The World 68 Years Ago Today.
Today is the anniversary of D-Day. June 6, 1944. Our American military stormed the beaches of Normandy, and began the fight to liberate Europe from the Nazis.
Most of the men who were a part of that invasion are long gone, but surely never forgotten. Please thank a soldier for their service today. Without them, we would not be free.
God Bless America!

I remember back to June 6th, 1974 when my friend Ernest’s father told us about that day in 1944 when he landed on Omaha beach. How he spent a good deal of time hidden behind a tank trap with the bodies of his comrades killed piled around it as he watched his unit get decimated. He told us about a soldier who fell wounded only feet from him and he was unable to pull him to “safety” because every time he tried the German machine gunners would rake were he was with bullets until several finally killed the wounded soldier. He told us about laying his rifle on a dead GI as he fired from the prone position behind him and how when he fired the Germans machine guns would rake his area. He told us about the sound of these bullets as they hit the tank trap and the bodies around him, there was a distinct difference between the sound of them hitting flesh and hitting bone.
All he got was a nick in his buttocks and he still can’t believe he didn’t die that day.
This was the only time he spoke to us about it, and I’ll never forget the tears and the haunted look in his eyes as he told us about that day. I remember me and my friend also cried.
Heroes, all of them.
Thank you for sharing that moving story. I’ve got tears welled up in my eyes right now.
God bless and keep our service men and women and their families. Thank you from the depths of my heart.

Not to be picky, but isn’t it 68 years? 2012 – 1944 = 68.
Yes, and I didn’t realize until you pointed it out that I typed 66 instead of 68. Thanks!
I need a dang proofreader sometimes.
Too bad our current (and hopefully soon to be former) commander and chief didn’t have time between fundraisers to commemorate those that fought and died for our freedom that Day.
