Alaskan chic in Boystown

There is a growing spontaneous eruption of Alaskan chic in Boystown.
Watch gay culture for trends that hit suburban and rural areas a year or two later.
I have never seen flannel shirts and lumberjack beanies on more gay guys (and some lesbians) in all my life.
Not to mention all the moose, deer, and other antlered ungulates displayed unironically everywhere from clothing shops to eateries.
Lots of guys rocking Todd-like goatees or full on grizzly beards too.
It’s an outdoorsy, aggressive, pioneer spirit rising as a definite undercurrent here and there in Boystown.
And it is NOT in Palin-mocking mode…it’s a legitimate effort on the part of the trend-obsessed Brendens of Boystown to look hip and relevant.
In 2008, it was all about the hopeychange super-creepy Shepherd Fairey propaganda posters, and corresponding gear.
Now, these same guys want to butch it up and masquerade as Iron Dog snow machine teams.
These Brendens always go where they think the zeitgeist will flow in a year or so.
If they are wearing flannel and rocking Todd-like makeovers, then I can only imagine what all the bitter clinging Midwesterners and Independents will be doing in 2012.
You betcha!

Love it!
Alaska is to 2011, what Australia was to the 1980′s. It’s in right now! Deadliest Catch, Gold Rush and the Palins…shoot my husband has even talked about moving there.
Discovery has at least 4 programs on that involve Alaska… Gold Rush, Deadliest Catch, that one with the airline, the alaskan state troopers one you find on the weekends. Its a unusual place with small communities… never been there… but it certainly has its kitsch.
That being said, I think some of it has to do with the general Palin fascination… people react differently to strange people from strange places… this I’d have to think is one reaction. Let’s remember though, the moose is one of nature’s greatest saddling animals. Though a polar bear is worth a 100 point bonus should you survive.
Incredible.
I’m surprised nobody linked to this yet:

Thanks for the memory – we still finding ourselves singing this after all these years
looks more like grunge
Yeah, if it weren’t for the antlers on the wall I would have said, “Yikes, it’s not just 90s *music* that’s back in style…”
Oh Yeah!!!!
The 90′s are BACK!!!!
Well all back except for the Democrats!

I wouls say it might be grunge but for the Moose head; totally Alaska!
Who’s that hot man in flannel? More please!
Hey, if it helps the cause, I will totally go out and buy some flannel.
My Dad wears plaid often and he is 76. I’ll have to tell him he is now tready. Hilarious.
Last month I told him what bedazzled was, since he was sporting rhinestones.
He’ll get a chuckle out of this.
Love it, but have to say my butchy sister-in-law has been doing this for years.
If plaid is in then I’ve been ready for this season since I left high school hundreds of years ago…I am flattered and pleased that everyone wants to be a butch lesbian, now. I have to thank Todd for making Dyke Fashion trendy.
Yep, Alaska is hot! I think it’s all due to Palin. And the fact that us mainlanders are facinated by what Alaskans do by living off the land or going months without seeing someone or having to travel by planes to get places because there’s no roads.
Speaking as a person who actually LIVES in Alaska, this is fabulous. It *is* a really different place, and I love it. Anyone who needs some tips on Alaska gear, please feel free to get in touch. lol
Nice catch, Kevin. This says GOOD THINGS I think.
I would love the info, pdxqt.
Thanks

From the moment Sarah came on the national scene in 2008, I knew the ‘Alaska’ trend would take off big time.
you betcha!
It will be so much fun.
So dem folks down sout’ finally got a clue an’ started dressin’ reguler ey. De say up here ya kin walk inna 7/11 wearin’ a ski mask an not get arrested.
Yoopers- hip before ar time!
I suspect that it may be the PALIN EFFECT at work. Recently, the NRA said that their female membership has jumped 20 percent since Palin arrived on the scene, and some hunting and fishing industry group said that more women than ever are buying guns, and fishing equipment. I also read that optical stores are having a hard time keeping Palinesque glasses in stock.
That’s the main reason I don’t believe all these polls that show her unfavorable numbers sky high.
SPAK is one of the reasons for “Alaskan Cool”. Both Todd and Sarah strike the average person as “genuine people” despite the attempts of the elites to destroy them. Their rebellion against the Ruling Class is leading to silent attempts at identification with the Palins.
Many don’t even know they are doing it yet.
We left Alaska about 40 years ago, but my family loved it all, through the hard and the good times, was a unforgettable experience for us all.
