ACTION ITEM: Sarah Palin as American Artemis imagery

Posted on September 8, 2011 by Kevin DuJan // Action Items, American Artemis, Purple Team - Palin, Sarah Palin

When I think of Governor Palin, I picture her most as a huntress.

Strong, independent, resourceful, determined, brave, bold, and forever vigilant.

I see her set against a backdrop of pristine nature and frontier wonder — a champion who’ll protect these resources while harvesting their bounty.

She’s an American Artemis, called at a time of crisis to the Herculean labors required to set all that’s gone wrong with the Left’s “Lightbringer” and False Pharaoh at the helm.

I would love to create an image of Governor Palin that conjures this American Artemis spirit in one graphic — or use images of the Governor that depict these themes visually.

* The abundant natural wonders of Alaskan wildlife around her

* The fortitude and strength she exudes

* The way the Governor holds her ground and stares down her foes

Please chime in on this thread with your thoughts on this American Artemis theme. This is a brainstorming session, so I want your opinions creatively on what could really work as an image to run for her during the campaign.  This is a subtle branding effort on our part to reveal all the things we know about the Governor that perhaps casual political observers miss.

The Left, and its agenda-driven media propagandists, have aggressively fostered an unflattering image of the Governor that we can indeed effectively counter by encapsulating her strengths into one solid line of character branding visuals.

I see the need, but lack the artistic and creative eye to make this reality.

Can you offer your input and ideas to percolate this American Artemis theme a little further?

I guess Governor Palin being an Alaska citizen is a good case for the Artemis comparison. Alaska does have significant woodlands and forests so you can certainly imagine Sarah Palin as Artemis the huntress.

However, if I were comparing her to a goddess, I'd choose Athena. Athena is the goddess of Athens which is where it could be argued democracy comes from. Also Athena was in competition with Poseidon over who would be the god or goddess of Athens and Athena won that battle. Athena is also, to copy from Wikipedia, "goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, warfare, strength, strategy, female arts, crafts, justice and skill." To copy again from the same source "Though Athena was a goddess of war strategy, she disliked fighting without purpose and preferred to use wisdom to settle predicaments. The goddess only encouraged fighting for a reasonable cause or to resolve conflict." Sarah Palin is no stranger to fighting for reasonable causes.

I think that an iconic Greek image of her as the Huntress would be excellent, contrasting nicely with the faux Greek columns that Obama used. I wish I had the graphic skills to do it myself.

Kevin, your writing is so beautiful and inspirational. I started reading this post without looking at the author and when I went back to see who wrote it I said to myself, "Ah yes, Kevin."

But before you get carried away with the notion of Gov. Palin as an American Artemis you have to stop and realize that most Americans will have absolutely no idea of who Artemis is – or Athena, for that matter. Sad commentary on American education, I'm afraid.

      Katherine,

Oh, I have no delusions that 80% of people won’t get it.

This is definitely not an official campaign idea. It’s not something for the general public. This is just something that would resonate with Governor Palin’s supporters, who are educated and versed in the symbolism.

It’s also something personal that inspires me, and it’s how I see the Governor on a personal level. This is a HillBuzz.org thing that the rest of the world is happy to use if it wants, but I am going with it because it’s a theme that resonates for me and those closest to me.

Different things for different demographic groups.

And, clearly, since hunting is reviled in some quarters, “American Artemis” is not a theme for everyone, but it resonates with a lot of people I like and respect very much…and it was clearly a theme of the Sarah Palin Alaska TV show even if the “American Artemis” label was never used there.

I would put her standing with a mountain peak in the far distance and trees and bushes in the near with animals standing beside her or behind her including a Mama Grizzly.
