About Dick Morris’ latest theory on Obama pulling an LBJ-meets-Grover Cleveland gambit

Posted on September 30, 2011 by Kevin DuJan // Hillary Clinton, Hillary Derangement Syndrome, Political Figures, Political Figures - The Left, The Left

Dick Morris has been making the rounds with his latest theory that Barack Obama will pull an LBJ and not seek re-election next year (knowing he is certain to lose), so that he can actually come back to run for the presidency again in 2016 or 2020, Grover Cleveland-style.

I don’t have time to give this a lengthy treatment, but maybe it doesn’t even need one to express how ridiculous this concept is.

The jury’s still out on which part of Obama’s ego will prevail regarding 2012; will it be the side that’s horrified at the thought of losing the election (in which case he’ll just not run again) or the part of him that is so in love with the trappings of office that he can’t bear to step aside? If it’s the latter, he’ll no doubt wait until the last possible moment to pull out of the race, so the Democrats will be screwed royally and unable to put forward a candidate for 2012 (and stop fantasizing about Hillary Clinton being the 2012 nominee, because she knows a Democrat won’t win after the mess Obama has made and she will not allow herself to be used as a sacrifice so that Democrats immediately after her loss can say, “It’s all Hillary’s fault! We would have won if Obama was still on the ticket! Let’s run Obama again in 2016 and give him another chance!”).

The Democrat Party has a real come to Jesus moment ahead of it, which is amusing since so many on the Left hate Christianity with a passion and put all their faith in the false god-with-a-decidedly-small-g that is Obama. Either the party completely purges itself of Obama and his acolytes after the 2012 election and marginalizes the Left to a role of non-influence in the party, or Democrats are toast for the foreseeable future.

The Obama presidency has redefined what it means to be a Democrat, and MILLIONS of former Democrats — such as myself — want nothing to ever again do with the party because of the deliberate lurch to the Left the Democrat Party took in 2008 when it cast aside Hillary Clinton and all the moderate/conservative Democrats who supported her in favor of the Left’s darling Obama.

If Obama doesn’t seek a second term and instead tries to maintain control of the Democrat Party to preserve an opportunity to return in 2016 or 2020 as the standard-bearer again, then Democrats will never have an opportunity to correct the way Independents now see Democrats.

If the Party is to survive, it needs to de-Obamafy, and quickly…and ensure that everyone associated with Obama’s rise to power never again plays a visible role in the Democrat Party.

Personally, though I still don’t know whether Obama will run for a second term, I can’t imagine him WANTING another term.

I also can’t picture him ever attempting a run for the White House again, even if the Democrat Party was foolish enough to run him in 2016.

Obama never wanted to be President…he’s always wanted to be an ex-president, with all the trappings, wealth, and fame that come with that. He wanted a place in the history books and a life dedicated to giving speeches, holding book signings, and traveling the world in the lap of luxury.  Running for President was a means to this end.

Why on Earth would he ever want to leave the plush retirement the post-presidency affords to once again be responsible for actually doing things on a daily basis in the White House?

Besides, it does not take much imagination to realize Obama’s breathlessly awaiting his chance to usurp Jimmy Carter as the former US President who travels the world criticizing America, hating Israel, and doing his very best to embarrass Americans and promote Islam. That’s been his goal all along, to achieve a lifetime appointment on the national stage as America’s loudest critic.

In 2013, after he leaves the White House, if he plans on running for anything ever again it will be UN Secretary General, where he’ll happily condemn the United States while speaking for this “world body”.

Dick Morris is a colorful and interesting man who must see this as well, but just wants the attention garnered from using LBJ and Grover Cleveland in the same sentence and causing a little stir the way he has been this week.

He could drop out. I think he just might. The GOP are set to win the house by a bigger margin as Democrats who were on their last chance have blown it in their district. The GOP could pick up 7-14 U.S. Senate seats. Obama doesn't want to have to work with Republican for 4 more years. He will leave it and get some UN type job like Carter.

Obama is toast, his numbers continue to head south and I can't imagine the economy getting better in time to help his cause. Plus, if the MSM ever gets around to actually covering the numerous scandals buzzing around this administration, well, it looks really bad for Dems in 2012.

While I don't disagree that the concept is ridiculous, think about whom we're talking about…the man who can't stand to loose. He might consider it if he comes to the conclusion (on his own) that he can not win.

I think he's too arrogant to believe that he could lose.

Better yet, the man has never been allowed to lose. You're right. The concept of losing is so foreign to him because exceptions have been made to him throughout his political career.

Does anyone think that Michelle will let him NOT run? She is having too much fun playing Commoner Queen to allow him to bow out early.

And don't think that he doesn't have a chance to win. The main stream media will rally behind him and become his propaganda machine again. And the mindless drones will eat it up as usual.

My pleasure. It really wasn't the one I was looking for, but I think it is better than the farce I had wanted.

We need to hammer the media. Call and write to the TV and radio stations calling them on their bias. Write letters to the editors of local papers putting out calm and reasoned points for getting the Deems (sic) out of power.

Hi Kevin, sooooo glad to hear from you!

Very sorry about your computer problems. :)

Dick has gotten on my last nerve with his latest babbling, yesterday, I canceled my email subscriptions from him, that I've had for years.

I agree about the post presidency bit. The problem for Obama is that he has a glass jaw. The ridicule he faces after he leaves office is going to be fierce and he just won't be able to take the criticism. I don't think he is going to have the same covering of the media and the Democratic party once he leaves office. His stupidity is going to be on the stage for the world to see (as if it already isn't). Carter is a dottering old fool, but he can at least articulate a point, Obama not so much. I don't think the EU is going to give him the platform he desperately seeks at the UN to diss the US either–they think he's an idiot too–even though they were all goo-goo eyed about his election.

Kevin, you are the Oracle of Boystown. You've seen this day coming since you stood in the rain outside of the Democrat Party Rules meeting. The day isn't here, yet, but as sure as it takes rain and sunshine to make a rainbow, their day of reckoning is coming.

We may not know the details of how the future works out, but so far, the prognostications of Kevin Dujan are holding up. Good for you, and HillBuzz!

Obama will run in 2012. Not only is his ego too big for him to give up, his far left Democrat base will support him all the way. Throw in the MSM's support and I'm sure he thinks he still can win.

Do not underestimate the power of this evil coalition. The media will still continue to provide cover for him and look for any way to make Republicans appear racist. The Democrat voter fraud machine will kick in to high gear and the unions and other Democrat fellow travellers will provide all the money and support he wants.

No lie is too vile, no slander too vile for this Progressive mob. They got of a taste of power, and they will do and say anything to keep it.

I think he will not drop out. He's too arrogant to do so. I don't think this man is such a boob that he's clueless about how unpopular he is. Like all of the things that have happened, he will count on others to grease the skids for him to get in. He won't want to work any harder than he has to. This is what happens when you have someone who worships at the alter of affirmative action. He so believes that he's entitled to this, the thought about leaving is just inconceivable.

And the DNC knows that. From early on, when bo announced that he's running again, it was his message that he better not be challenged. And the DNC has no choice but to support him or else they need to engineer a face-saving way for him to get out.

What might that scenario be? I agree with an earlier comment about the Europeans thinking this guy is boob as well.

I think he will run and as others have posted the cheating plus the MSM cover for him will once again be enormous.

I would like to pick up on your comments about the Democratic Party. I got a call last night from Jay Inslee's (D-WA) campaign for Governor of WA state. He's now in the House of Representative. Jay Inslee is a decent guy. I used to live in his district and I volunteered on a couple off his campaigns. I've had the opportunity to meet with him several times. And, best of all, Jay was an early supporter of Hillary Clinton in the primaries. However, I told the caller last night that Inslee's support of Obamacare and the war in Libya meant I could no longer support him. The Republican in the race, Rob McKenna, is also a decent guy and it will cause me not heartburn to vote for him. This is what OBAMA has done to the Democratic Party and I hope the powers that be will hear this sort of thing repeatedly!!!!!

Whether the "Titanic" BO campaign sends an SoS (that is, whether BO steps aside a la LBJ) just may depend on how severe the Fast & Furious and Solyndra damage is becoming. If it appears evidence leading to indictments is ponderous, one could imagine TPTB offering BO the "out" of him agreeing not to run in exchange for backing off the investigations/indictments (though the American people and our hard-earned, wasted tax dollars certainly cry out for justice to be done). Perhaps such a scenario is beginning to unfold behind the scenes right now. Perhaps the recent reported "eruption" from MO had something to do with revelations re her connection to George Kaiser Foundation funding and the Solyndra scandal. Also, IMO, MO is no more interested than BO in living in the WH for another four years. By now, like BO, she may still enjoy the "show" a bit, but may not believe it's worth the "work" and the criticism, now that the adoring throngs have disappeared. IMO, they both seem more the type to "take the money and run" especially when the heat is on. If I were a potential campaign donor, I would keep that in mind before writing any checks.

Other than spending a lot of money – if he decides to actually run – Barry the man-child is just spitting into the oncoming gale. The coming election is going to be of historic proportions when it's all said and done with an increased majority in the House, a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and the first woman President – a constitutional conservative no less! It seems to me that the Democratic/Republican two party system will change in the process. She is clearly running on a platform of small, smart, constitutional government and will be re-creating the Reagan alliance that included Reagan Democrats. This will align her and her followers against anyone who believes in large government – Progressives. There are plenty of Progressives in the Republican party, and not all of them obviously RINOs. W was clearly one. It is my belief that anyone who opposes what Palin stands for – which are the foundational principles of our country, after all – is a Progressive. I guess that some people like Eric Ericson and Ann Coulter may just not like Sarah for whatever reason and agree with her principles, but why then attempt to eat one of their own? It makes no sense.

Thank you so much, Kevin, for posting on this topic. Your posts are a pleasure to read–informative and entertaining. I don't have a sense whether Obama will step down or not. I am betting not; but I know strange things happen in politics. However, for the sake of argument, let's say he does step down from the race. He gets to keep all the campaign money he's raising in his campaign coffers. He can then maintain them for a run later (not so likely); or I believe he can dole out funds to other pols he likes. So even in some form, HE continues.

One thing I keep saying is this: If he gets booted from the WH this election, I'll dance in the street!

Again, thank you, Kevin, for this response to the Morris-speak!

Whew! I thought there for a minute from the heading that Morris was comparing Cleveland to Obama.
I was going to say that man definately does not know his presidential history. Grover Cleveland was one of the best presidents evah that didn't have a name like Washington or Lincoln. Coolidge being next.
