MADNESS: Illinois Democrats DOUBLE tolls on roads but make no cuts to union payouts or wasteful projects
Illinois is going to DOUBLE it’s road tolls statewide.
Way to hamper the economy even further.
Instead of raising fees, why not cut the pork barrel, union-rewarding projects that are not needed.
Even better: how about eliminating some of the “supervisors” on road crews?
Have you observed this in your state? It’s endemic to Illinois: one man, usually very young, works on a road, using a machine of some kind. Another man stands, watching him. A third man watches the second man. From inside a truck parked adjacent to all of this, an older man watches the first three. Another guy stands outside the truck, leaning against it. Sometimes, there’s another guy in the bed of the truck, weighing it down so it does not float away. Unless, of course, that guy is on break.
How much money is wasted a year through union jobs like this, or on roads that are purposefully built to fall apart in three or five years so the unions can rebuild them again?
Instead of raising tolls, why not trim some fat?
I know…I know…it’s Illinois, so that concept is ridiculous.
So better question: why does the public at large stand for this?
Tea Party Candidate Leads Rasmussen Poll of Likely Voters; Within 1% of Obama
A survey of 1,000 Likely Voters conducted August 15-16, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports reveals that a Tea Party candidate would trail Barack Hussein Obama by just 1% if the election were held today. (That’s within the 3% margin of error.) Rasmussen is considered by Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives to be a relatively reliable source of polling data.
The GOP and the media will both work hard to ignore these results and pretend this candidate doesn’t exist. Move along…nothing to see here.
The GOP will ignore the will of the voters, because they’re The Ruling Class Establishment Cocktail Party of Stupid, and the media will ignore voter preference because they understand that they need to push a white bread (no crust) mayo and cucumber milquetoast Establishment Cocktail Party “It’s His Turn” candidate to have any chance of installing their dreamboat Barack Hussein Obama as the “First Historic Re-Elected Black President.”
Here are the survey results:
Barack Hussein Obama: 39%
Tea Party Candidate: 38%
Some Other Candidate: 14%
Undecided: 8%
Here’s where the statistics get really interesting.
–61% of Republicans would vote for the Tea Party candidate.
–Only 78% of Democrats would vote for Barack Hussein Obama.
–The Tea Party candidate beats Obama by 10% among Independent Likely Voters, 43% to 33%.
And that’s the key. For the right platform, Democrat and Independent likely voters would jump off the Hopeychange Parade Float with the spotlights and styrofoam columns and actually vote for a Republican.
Here are the lessons that the Cocktail Party is likely to ignore in their headlong, media-assisted rush to install an “It’s His Turn” John McCain-style “moderate.”
Enough of these formerly employed, middle-class likely voters have spent time collecting food stamps and unemployment during the Obama Regime to consider voting for a candidate with a “radical” view of federal government spending (it spends too much), a “radical” view of the National Debt (it’s treasonously high), and a “radical” view of entitlement programs (Social Security and Medicare are going to go broke in the next 15 years so we have to privatize them as other countries have successfully done.)
Democrats and Independents are willing to vote for a “radical” Tea Party candidate who wants us to protect our own borders instead of borrowing money from China to protect Germany’s borders.
Democrats and Independents are willing to vote for a “radical” Tea Party candidate who wants to repeal ObamaCare, allow purchase of health insurance across state lines, and provide tax credits and deductions for all medical expenses.
Democrats and Independents are willing to vote for a “radical” Tea Party candidate, even though he’s a Christian and is pro-life.
Democrats and Independents are willing to vote for a “radical” Tea Party candidate who wants to audit the Federal Reserve and find out which foreign countries got trillion-dollar secret stimulus payments.
Democrats and Independents are willing to vote for a “radical” Tea Party candidate who would prevent the TSA from randomly fondling children, 95-year-old cancer patients, and disabled veterans while leaving air travelers who fit the profile of Islamic terrorists totally unmolested.
Democrats and Independents are willing to vote for a “radical” Tea Party candidate who has read the Constitution, understands it, respects it, and voted according to it for over 20 years.
This is bad, bad news for the Cocktail Party GOP Establishment. Unless, of course, they put down their cocktails and finger sandwiches long enough to notice the handwriting on the wall.
The Tea Party platform will be the winning platform in 2012. And any credible GOP candidate who runs on this platform can beat Barack Hussein Obama, because they’ll draw away votes from Independents and Democrats.
Who is the specific Tea Party candidate in this particular survey? He’s the candidate who gets the least amount of coverage by the overwhelmingly Democrat news media. And when they do cover him, they call him “a fringe” candidate. Hmmm. Wonder why that is?
He’s the candidate who is attacked most often by the Establishment GOP leadership as being “unelectable.” Hmmm, what’s up with that?
Read the poll results to get the startling news that you won’t hear anywhere else: Ron Paul could beat Barack Hussein Obama if the election were held today and it rained hard enough to keep just a tiny percentage of disillusioned black voters at home.
And here’s a preemptive response for everyone who’s about to leave a knee-jerk comment about Ron Paul.
Did you read his positions on the issues, or did you rely on the news media to tell you who to vote for?
Did you form your opinion based on what other candidates say about him or how his (alleged) supporters behave?
Most objections I’ve heard about Ron Paul have to do with national defense. Well, here are his positions. Are you surprised? Are they different than you thought? Are they “radical?” Do they match what you heard reported by the news media?
Did you do your own homework before you formed your opinion of this candidate, or did you listen to perennial Cocktail Party A-Listers like Dana Perino and Bill Kristol, who don’t want you to “throw away” your vote on an “unelectable” candidate and stick with someone “safe” like Mittens Romneycare, because, after all, it’s his turn?
More questions the GOP Ruling Elite can’t even ask, much less answer:
- What is it about Ron Paul’s platform that is so appealing to Independents?
- What is so appealing to Democrats?
- What we learn from the above?
We can elect a Tea Party candidate (a Ron Paul or a Sarah Palin or a Michelle Bachman), but only if we refuse to be manipulated–by either the Cocktail Party GOP or the news media–during the primary process.
Let’s assume for a moment that ANYONE can beat BHO if the economy continues to tank (and I think it will). I think the media knows that, and I think that’s why they will do ANYTHING to make sure Mittens Romneycare or John Huntsman is the GOP nominee. (I believe the media thinks Rick Perry is just there to be the anti-Romney. They will tear him down when the time comes.)
Let’s assume we will be stuck with whomever the GOP nominates for the next four years. It’s may be the only opportunity we have to truly return the USA to its constitutional roots and save the country from complete economic collapse.
Can you imagine Mittens Romney dismantling Obamacare? Can you imagine him reforming entitlements? What about John Huntsman–can you picture him getting tough on the TSA (or, anything)? Can you picture John Huntsman reforming the tax code?
The next six months are crucial to the future of our country. This is the only chance we have to choose a candidate who can pull votes from Tea Party, Republican, Democrat and Independent voters, and–just as important–cares more about bringing us back from the brink of doom once he or she is in office than about getting re-elected.
Let’s not screw it up.
(H/T Freedom’s Lighthouse for the perfect Obama photo. No, he’s totally not gay.)
Great Merciful Zeus: If you are reading this anywhere near the Eastern seaboard, PLEASE take Hurricane Irene seriously, get off the computer, and BE SAFE
The navy is moving all ships out of Norfolk, Virginia.
Which they don’t do unless something terrible is on the way.
If you are anywhere on the Eastern seaboard, TAKE HURRICANE IRENE seriously.
Do not laugh this off. Get the heck as far away from the hurricane’s path as possible.
Do not be like the people of New Orleans and joke about having been through hurricanes before.
I have a good friend whose whole family almost died in the 90s when a hurricane came through Hilton Head. Her father thought it was all a big joke, and he didn’t evacuate them. Instead, he drank beer and, you guessed it, homemade “hurricanes” and screwed around in the garage, having a great time, tilting into the wind declaring himself “King of all Hurricanes” while the family dog cowered under his workbench thinking, no doubt, “this damn fool has done lost his sorry mind”. Marshals of some kind came to the neighborhood to make sure it was evacuated, and found this fool outside, clowning around, trying to fly like Superman. The cops took water-proof toe tags, like you find at the morgue, and started filling them out for the family members to secure to themselves…because if they insisted on staying, the authorities would need a way to identify their foolish, drowned bodies. If they ever washed up somewhere in a few weeks.
They piled dad in a truck, threw all the family photos and as much clothing as they could grab in another car, and hit the road JUST AN HOUR OR SO BEFORE ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE.
Please take Hurricane Irene uncharacteristically seriously.
The media uses weather as porn most of the time, titillating people with tales of “the storm of the century!” so people underestimate these things. I will tell you, that Justin and I didn’t think it really was going to snow that much here in Chicago this past winter, because this stuff is always blown out of proportion…but then SNOWMAGEDDON hit, and we were stunned how bad it really was.
PLEASE DO NOT BE STUNNED OR SURPRISED BY HURRICANE IRENE.
You are too valuable to the Resistance to lose, and your family is too precious to risk.
ACTION ITEM: Compile all the ballot deadlines for appearing as a candidate in the 2012 Republican primaries and caucuses
UPDATE #2: We’re going to finish this list for all 50 states and will keep working on it until it’s done, but so far, based on what we’re seeing, it looks like October 31st, 2011 is the ABSOLUTE LATEST date that Governor Palin could announce a presidential run beacause of a November 1st, 2011 filing deadline in South Carolina, where she would need to compete. Realistically, she will announce before then if she intends to run…but she can’t go longer than Halloween if she wants to compete in South Carolina (where Governor Haley will no doubt campaign for her).
*************************************************
UPDATE: Here is the information for Illinois. I obtained it by calling the Board of Elections in Springfield.
ILLINOIS
Circulation for Signatures begins September 6th, 2011
Signatures accepted: November 28th-December 5th
Republican primary: March 20th, 2012
So…this means Governor Palin could wait until mid-November to announce and still make the ballot here in Illinois.
I’m going to keep checking this thread to see if anyone can help compile this so I don’t have to call all 50 states, but think it’s important enough to build this table so I’ll invest the time to do it. Would love the help though!
****************************************************
IOWA CAUCUS: No deadlines and no paperwork filed, no signatures collected. The Caucus is on February 6th, 2012. So governor Palin could declare candidacy on February 5th, 2012 and still be able to participate.
NEW HAMPSHIRE: No one at the GOP in New Hampshire or at the Board of Elections knew when the deadline was, but there are signatures required. Awaiting a call back from Secretary of State’s office to find out date
NEVADA CAUCUS: Caucus is held February 18th, 2012.
SOUTH CAROLINA: November 1st, 2011 is deadline for filing. No signatures required. Filing fee is $35,000 (which includes a $10,000 late fee because the early filing date was May 3rd, 2011).
Alabama: December 14th, 2011 filing deadline. 500 signatures required. Qualifying fee is $10,000. Primary is March 13th, 2012.
Alaska: Filing deadline is “early in January”, but exact date is not yet known. The Presidential Preference Poll is conducted on March 6th at the district conventions (a caucus, but the voting is done on ballots, not wandering into corners like Democrats do in the Iowa Caucus). 50 signatures are required to be on a ballot plus a $1,000 candidate fee that also includes a coupon for the candidate to attend a barbeque lunch of some kind.
Arizona: Nomination paperwork is due between December 28th-January 9th (5pm cutoff). Presidential Preference Election is scheduled for February 28th, 2012.
Arkansas: Filing deadline is February 23-March 1st, 2012. Filing fee is $25,000. No signatures required. Primary is May 22nd, 2012.
California: The Secretary of State automatically puts a candidate on the ballot if that person is on the ballot in other states, has a campaign office in California, and “is otherwise acting like a presidential candidate”. No paperwork filing is required as it’s at the discretion of the Secretary of State to include all known candidates on the ballot.
Colorado: Does not participate in presidential primary and just selects whomever is nominated from either party four days after the nominating convention.
Connecticut:
Delaware:
Florida:
Georgia:
Hawaii:
Idaho:
Illinois: Circulation of signatures begins September 6th, 2011; signatures accepted November 28-December 5th, 2011; primary is Marth 20th, 2012
Indiana: Filing deadline is between January 11-31, 2012.
Maryland: March 2012 filing deadline, primary is April 3rd 2012
Nevada: March 12, 2012 filing deadline, no signatures required
Pennsylvania: January 24-February 14th, 2012 filing deadline. 2000 signatures required. $200 filing fee
Wisconsin: Certification is November 15, 2011. Primary is February 21, 2012

This is yeoman’s, difficult work, but I don’t think anyone has made a tabulation of this yet. If so, please link to it in comments below.
There’s a clear and pressing need to determine the cut-off date in each individual state for a candidate to put forward the signatures required to appear on ballots for the 2012 Republican nominating contests.
Each state has a different set of rules, and different deadlines.
In 2008, when I gathered signatures to get Hillary Clinton on the ballot here in Illinois, I believe our first week getting signatures was in early May, and we worked on the project through mid-June, when the campaign felt we had enough to pass muster. Remember: Obama disqualified Alice Palmer and other candidates in his 1996 run for his state senate seat by contesting the signatures they obtained to get on the ballot, and he was able to knock them all of so he could run opposed in that race. So, the Clinton campaign worked hard to get a large amount of signatures so even if Obama played the same game, Hillary would be on the Illinois primary ballots.
I think Governor Palin’s supporters could very easily obtain the required number of signatures to place her on the ballot in any state in just 2-3 weeks. It’s not very hard to do, really. In an hour or two, working in busy parts of town, just one volunteer could fill up maybe 10 sheets, with up to 30 or so names on a sheet. Multiply that across the spectrum of Palin supporters and I can’t imagine the Governor wouldn’t meet threshold very quickly.
If we can get an idea of when the filing deadlines are to be on the ballot for the Republican primary or caucus in that state, we can get a better picture of when’s the absolute latest we could hear official word of Governor Palin’s entry into the Republican race.
If, say, November-something is a deadline in one of the most important states she needs to be on the ballot in, then Governor Palin would need to announce at least three weeks before that date (maybe stretching it to two weeks prior), to ensure she’s on the ballot and not disqualified on technicality.
A gut feeling is that the Governor has until the third week of October or so to announce her presidential campaign. Maybe sooner, maybe later.
The first step in figuring that out is to create a table showing all the deadline dates.
Can you help start filling in states below?
It’s time-consuming and boring, yes, but important as it doesn’t look like anyone has thought to do this yet.
Why couldn’t Obama have chosen THIS Norman Rockwell painting to hang in the White House?
The above painting is Norman Rockwell’s “New Kids in the Neighborhood” (1967), which normally hangs in the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts but is currently on loan to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (until December 2011).
It’s a commentary on the first black family moving into a white house in what was most likely an all-white neighborhood, with local children coming to meet their new neighbors.
No one is hurling epithets, making threats, or being victimized in any way…though all appreciate the historic and unprecedented nature of the first black family’s arrival.
Like with any great art, you can read whatever you want into this painting. If you’re part of the Race Industry and your livelihood depends on fostering a conceit that Americans just hate black people, then you’d probably claim this snapshot was taken mere seconds before a horrific scene of intolerance took place — the quiet before a racially motivated storm. That’s sure how Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Henry Gates, and Barack Obama and (most especially) Michelle Obama would see it.
Or, to be much more accurate, you could realize this was the first introduction of friends who would enjoy playing together for many years, having many adventures, and someday looking back on this initial meeting as one of the most fortuitous days of their lives (well, everyone except the cat and the dog, who will probably always hate each other, because everyone knows that cats and dogs are just irredeemable racists). Allen West, Kevin Jackson, Thomas Sowell, Bill Cosby, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would probably see it this way (about the kids’ attitudes towards race relations, anyway).
This week, Obama created a stir when he chose to borrow Norman Rockwell’s “The Problem We All Live With” (1964) for prominent display in the White House, just outside the Oval Office. It’s also owned by the Norman Rockwell Museum, and is scheduled to hang in the White House until November 12th, 2011, when it’s set to join a national tour called “American Chronicle: the Art of Norman Rockwell”.
This is interesting because it means the painting will only hang in the White House for, what?, less than three months?
Most likely, the Obama administration would have trucked this particular painting to D.C. for just three days, if that was the only length of time the Norman Rockwell Museum would part with it, because Obama’s handlers for his re-election campaign just wanted photo ops with him, standing before this painting depicting the ugliest of moments in the Civil Rights era, while it was displayed outside the Oval Office.
Obama is very clearly abusing the painting and twisting its original intent to serve his own needs — namely, to ensure that black people eviscerate anyone who challenges Obama in 2012. It’s a clue the Race Industry will rev up, full-blast, to call everyone opposing Obama’s re-election RAACISTS!, and a clear and present warning to any Democrats who would dream to challenge him in the primaries.
A recent poll showed that 64% of the country thinks race relations have either stagnated or worsened during Obama’s presidency, because even though the media claims Obama is “the first post-racial president”, his entire propaganda machine is fueled by race-baiting. The race card is the weapon of choice of this White House, and race determines Obama’s point of view in all that he does.
I’m sure the Norman Rockwell Museum would have been honored to loan the White House either “New Kids in the Neighborhood” (1967) or “The Problem We All Live With” (1964), but Obama and his team chose the dated painting, specific to one horrible moment in the past, that recorded ugliness and hatred that just no longer exist…instead of celebrating progress and recognizing just how far America really has come.
Considering, as it is, that it’s an actual black family in the White House picking out paintings to hang where they want, which just would never have happened if America really was as racist as Obama and his ilk in the Race Industry keep claiming.
Who else can’t wait for Dick Cheney’s “In My Time” to hit the shelves?
Did you ever wait in line at midnight at one of the Harry Potter book release parties, where people dressed up in costumes and ate Every Flavor Beans or gooey, half-melted chocolate frogs, waiting for another of J.K. Rowling’s novels to officially go on sale?
That’s sort of how I feel thinking about Dick Cheney’s memoir being released.
I more than almost wish someone would organize Dick Cheney book release parties at midnight, and everyone could dress up in assorted Cheney-related costumes and say incredibly blunt but certainly accurate things to one another.
I wish I had the last 11 years back to do over again, because I wish the post-Obama me could have a chance to appreciate Cheney while he was still in office, instead of looking back fondly on the man who spent entire years in a secure and undisclosed location, no doubt kicking ass.
Every time I write about him, I need to note that Cheney is the most pro-gay rights Vice President the country has ever had. He is an amazing man, and I think one of the very best VPs the country has yet seen (though, I think Allen West could be a close second starting in 2013).
Cannot wait to read this book and will even splurge on getting it in hardcover so I don’t have to put it off until it’s on for sale used on Amazon or a happy find on the library shelf one day.
CAN’T WAIT!
What are you most interested or excited to read about in Cheney’s memoir?
Texas Ground Report: What do people think of Rick Perry in Houston?
Dear HillBuzz,
OK, so here in the wilds NNE of Houston ………………………
A friend is facing foreclosure; he’d bought the house ~ 8-10 years ago, something like 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, because he was caring for 4-6 older, mentally-ill women who’s families didn’t have the resources/inclination to care for them, themselves. It’s on 6 acres, with two barns, entirely fenced. S., the owner, is gay – his former partner & he decided that their religious beliefs wouldn’t allow for their being together any longer, {they’ve been together, off & on, for over 20 years – S. was raised Pentecostal, I don’t know what H.’s religious upbringing consisted of}, so H. moved out. Comes financial hard times, and the ‘families’ suddenly remembered that, “hey, Gramma gets $1,600.00/mo – WE could use that”, so the older ladies were taken “back home” & S. was left with no residents/income. He’s 4 months behind on his mortgage payment {with no late fees, well over $1,500.00/mo}, never mind utilities, or any discretionary income. He started today at a restaurant {he’s been a restaurant manager before, but more that 15 years ago}, and will hopefully be able to keep his head financially above water until he manages to sell the property. God bless’im, he’s keeping cheerful – when I took the new car to show him, he couldn’t have been happier for me. We’re not in any position to assist right now, but I’m working on a couple of ideas.
We’ve new neighbors, father works peripherally in law enforcement, gang interdiction, son is 11 {mother took off when son was 1} – W. {father} is an arrogant supremacist – he’s AMAZED that anyone without a college degree is capable of <i>thinking</i>; he also looks down his nose at those of us who have served in the military, {similar to John Kerry’s attitude} – but what I find absolutely abhorrent about this man is his racism. One of his first complaints to me was about the “number of blacks” in Splendora. Ummmmm, just because Splendora was known for hosting KKK rallies some 20-30 years ago, this IS the 21st century – they can vote and everything! He actually had the gall to harangue a young black man visiting neighbors {who happen to be a mixed-race couple} – “What are you doing here?” – & seemed to expect me to applaud his diatribe. If I had been present, I’m afraid I would have made a mortal enemy of our new next door neighbor, ’cause I would have asked what business is it of his? The young man was causing NO problems, just walking around outdoors, only to be harassed for being black. I swear, I thought that kind of attitude had died off with my grandparents’ generation.
Now, I haven’t had sufficient conversations with him {God willing, that will NEVER happen} to find out if his antipathy pre-dates January 2009, or is a comparatively recent occurrence.
On top of that, W. seems to believe that women should be knocking down his door. Facially, imagine, if you will, the country folks from Deliverance, but able to speak fairly coherently. As far as body type, envision two tires stacked one atop the other – in between is his waist. Plus, he “chaws” & spits wherever he happens to aim – mostly where *I* have to mow.
Of course, the son is learning at Daddy’s knee; I’m working on a artsy project outside {very time-consuming, as it’s my first effort} – T. {son} is aching for a maternal figure, other than his paternal grandmother – he comes over, sneaking around trying to startle me {I get very focused on my work}, playing with the cats & the Progeny’s dog, snarking about the time it’s taking me on my project, demanding to know who he saw me with, etc. Hackles get a LITTLE raised at that. The other evening, I don’t know how we got on the subject, but T. made the statement that it would be ‘shameful’ to have to ask a Japanese person for anything. I asked him why, got the patented adolescent vacuous stare & shrug. I asked what about Chinese people? Korean people? Cambodian people? Filipino people? I informed him that, from my birth, there was a lady I knew as my ‘Chinese Grandmother’ {Esther was always the consummate lady – and she & her husband, Choi, doted on their little ’round-eyed’ granddaughter}. I told him we have very dear friends from Korea originally. Haven’t told either father or son about a friend back in the Tidewater area of Virginia, who referred to herself as the Progeny’s “Nubian Mama”.
For the most part, in our little area of the community, people are scraping by – food stamp use is on the increase, as are applications for medical assistance/housing assistance/utility payments. On a medical note, neighbor on the other side, NICE man, was just discovered to have a ‘man’s fist-sized tumor’ in his lung; it had already metastasized to his esophagus/larynx, to the point where the docs wouldn’t put a scope down his throat, for fear of causing him to bleed out. If we weren’t not inundated with illegals tying up our hospitals/doctors/specialists, it’s more than possible that B.’s cancer would have been found sooner, in time to treat it. Now, there’s only palliative/pain control care as an option. He’s 45. And before anyone brings it up, NO, Øbamacare would NOT have helped him, it would have made it worse, because the hospital doors would have been opened even further to illegals.
In the little grocery store here in town, prices are going up at a tremendous rate {we shop there vs. WalMart because they carry what we want, their meats are great, and as with most small towns, we’ve gotten to know them and they’ve gotten to know us}. One young lady at the local store is constantly asked about her brother {he used to work there, too}, as he enlisted in the Army & is now over in Afghanistan – NO word among the troops on when Øbama will deign bring them all home.
Luckily, our Congressional representative is Kevin Brady, who along with Ted Poe {in the next Congressional district} are fighting tooth & nail against Teh Won’s extravagances.
Rick Perry is OK as a governor, but I haven’t spoken with a lot of people who view him as “Presidential” – now, if it comes down to a choice between Perry & four more years of Øbama, there’s no question that many {blacks as well as whites, here} will vote for Perry.
Well, that’s about all for now.

Governor Palin can sit back and watch Romney and Perry duke it out, before taking on the winner
Dear HillBuzz,
I cant but help thinking that with Perry now being the clear front runner how it will help Governor Palin once she gets into the race. With Perry as the front runner all the negative attention from the media and the GOP establishment will be firmly focused on him, allowing Governor Palin to fly under the radar to a certain extent. Governor Palin will be able to sit back and keep her powder dry while Romney and Perry slug it out wasting money and resources trying to wreck each others campaigns. Governor Palin can then emerge once Romney and Perry have finished knocking each other out as a credible alternative to both and without having had to expend allot of campaign money and resources to take out her main competitors for the nomination.
The victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory.

Very interesting comment and take on things.
What are your thoughts?
If record unemployment, an earthquake hitting the capital, and his duties running the country couldn’t disrupt his vacation, Hurricane Irene has no chance
I saw this headline on Drudge last night and laughed, because if record unemployment, an earthquake hitting the capital, and the actual running of the country couldn’t disrupt Obama’s vacation, what chance does Hurricane Irene have of even being noticed by our illustrious current president? Not when there’s ice cream around, that’s for sure. Hmmm (or, alternatively, Mmmm). Ice cream. Could THAT be the real reason Joe Biden’s been dispatched to Outer Mongolia for the duration of Obama’s vacation, so there’s no semblance of anyone at all being in charge back in DC? Is this really all about Obama being afraid Biden will eat all his ice cream?
The US Government App Store
Did you know that the US Government has an apps store? You can download government apps directly to your iPhone or iPad. These apps were created to make your life easier…so you can better access information such as where to apply for food-stamps…or where you can get your welfare check…or where the nearest public health clinic is located.
They have some very interesting apps that don’t seem to have any relavance to the US government. For example….
Here’s the description of this app…”The Embryo App uses mobile telecommunication and multimedia technologies to add interactive capabilities to the digital information, enhancing our understanding of embryo development.” So in case you are bored at your next board meeting you can watch an embryo develop.
Here’s one of my favorites…
I’m not kidding about this one. Our government has an app that will allow you to find out what you would look like as a neanderthal. I’m fairly certain that this one is Vice President Biden’s favorite app.
Of course, they have the obligatory spanish-only app…
This app makes it easy for all those American “citizens” who don’t speak one lick of English to find out how to access public health clinics, register their kids in the public school systems, get food stamps etc. Very useful.
And last (but certainly not least)….
For all you shark fishermen out there, you can now report (to the government of course) exactly where you have released a Mako shark. This app uses the GPS device on your phone so you can make your report while still on the water. How handy!
The store does have some fairly useful apps. The “Travel Smart” app will give you information on travel alerts and warnings and US Embassy locations. This would be a good one if you travelled overseas a lot. There’s also an “American Red Cross Shelter View” app that will give you information about the Red Cross shelter in your area….especially good info for those in the path of Hurricane Irene.
I can not imagine going to the government for my iPhone apps but I suppose there are those who go to the government for everything.
This explains why this country is in the mess that it’s in.
