Obama DOJ like the Nixon DOJ?
I’ve always really liked Brit Hume. I think he’s one of Fox’s best and most respected commentators. If he’s comparing Obama’s Justice Department to Nixon’s Justice Department that’s not good for Obama…or Eric Holder.
We all know how Nixon’s Watergate scandal turned out.

Violence in Mexico leave at least 40 dead in 24 hours.
Mexican drug cartel soldiers
We have our own little Afghanistan within spitting distance from us. This morning Fox is reporting that at least 40 people have been killed so far this weekend in drug cartel violence… including 21 people at a nightclub in Monterrey.
Mexico is starting to look a lot like a war zone.
Those Mexican drug cartel soldiers look a lot like Islamic jihadists.
You’d be crazy to plan a trip to Mexico right now.

Poor Jay Carney. I kind of feel sorry for him. I think he’s having a hard time keeping up with the lies that he’s forced to tell. At least Robert Gibbs was a bit of comic relief but Jay looks like he’s in a lot of pain.

Proof that Obama knew about Project Gunrunner?

Well….David Ogden says that Obama ordered Project Gunrunner (and kicked in $10 million of stimulus money). Ogden specifically mentions “gun tracing” at the end of the clip. Sending thousands of assault rifles over the border to be traced to narco-thugs is the essence of Project Gunrunner. I know what the White House will claim….they didn’t know that the ATF was going to send assault rifles into Mexico as part of the project but who really believes that? In the military, if you are in command of a ship or battalion, you take responsibility for all those who serve under you…therefore, Obama is responsible for what is done by the DOJ (which covers the DEA and ATF).
So…is this video proof that Obama had some knowledge of what was happening with Project Gunrunner?

Vice President Cuomo?

There’s been some chatter among some of the Democrats that Joe Biden may not be the best choice for Obama’s 2012 ticket. Many think that he isn’t taken seriously and is prone to making gaffes. Quite frankly, they are worried about Obama’s chances for re-election and feel that he needs a fresh face. Enter Andrew Cuomo. He is just off a BIG win for gay marriage in New York and is pretty popular right now. It appears that he is more fiscally conservative than Obama so may appeal to the moderates but…does a VP candidate really help a presidential ticket that much? I certainly think Sarah Palin helped John McCain a lot but I don’t think it’s something that will push Obama over the top and there may be some Biden fans out there who will be upset that he’s not on the ticket. What do you guys think?
I do have one observation about Cuomo….

Fast and Furious: A much bigger operation that was funded by American tax dollars?

Mexico and Central America, and thus use these optics to bolster their false
contention that “90%” of Mexican guns were sourced directly from the U.S. “See?
U.S. guns are all the way down in Chiapas State and Guatemala. U.S. guns are
everywhere! The Second Amendment simply is not feasible any longer!”

Mexican national scheduled to be executed in Texas today
Umberto Leal Garcia
UPDATE to the UPDATE: Humberto Leal was put to death this evening in Huntsville, TX. He was pronounced dead at 7:21 ET. His last words were to apologize to his family and his victim’s family for causing so much pain. Hopefully, Adria’s family can have some peace.
UPDATE: The US Supreme Court voted 5-4 to not stop the execution of Leal-Garcia. The execution is set to take place anytime after 6pm tonight (Texas time)….so….anytime now.(thanks to wannacruize for this info).
There’s a lot going on with Mexico lately. Illegal immigration laws…Fast and Furious…and now this little story. Today in Texas, Umberto Leal Garcia is scheduled to be executed for the brutal 1995 rape and murder of 16 year old Adria Sauceda. It only took the jury 45 minutes to convict him because the prosecution had a mountain of evidence against Garcia. He has been sitting on death row ever since and tonight is the big night….but there’s a slight problem. Garcia is a Mexican national…even though he has been living in the US since he was 2 years old (yes..illegal immigrant). According to the 1963 UN Vienna Treaty, foreign nationals must be informed of their right to contact the embassy if they are arrested. Garcia (a Mexican citizen) wasn’t informed of this right….and he didn’t have to be because the US doesn’t have a law that enforces the treaty domestically. Also, a 2008 U.S. Supreme Court decision stipulates that the legal support of a foreign government — or governments — is not required in deciding whether to execute a foreign national convicted of a capital offense. The 6-3 majority ruled that state court judges are given the discretion to decide how a sentence is carried out. This is how the US was able to execute Jose Ernesto Medellin in 2008. There is a bill currently pending in Congress that would enforce the treaty and Garcia has petitioned the Supreme Court for a stay so that the bill can pass….this would trigger a retrial for Garcia.
The Texas Board of Pardons and their Court of Criminal Appeals have already denied the stay. Last Friday, the Obama administration petitioned Texas to grant a stay until Congress can pass the bill. Of course, Gov. Rick Perry can grant the stay (but will he?).
Hmmm…what to do? No one is claiming that this monster is innocent. They want him to “get off” on a technicality. He’s an illegal immigrant who, for 36 years, has enjoyed all the benefits of a US citizen (including our justice system) but now suddenly he wants to be treated like a Mexican.
Will Texas cave to political pressure?
I sure hope not.
