GOP Plan vs Harry Reid’s Plan
Today…Harry Reid presented his debt plan and the GOP presented their debt plan today. Of course, each side doesn’t like the others sides plan. I think this leaves us in the same place we have been…..nowhere.
Here are the basic points of Harry Reid’s plan (as best I can tell)
1. His plan doesn’t reform entitlements…at all.
2. His plan counts on a lot of savings from the withdrawal of our troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. (a big gamble, I think)
3. His plan counts heavily on discretionary spending cuts.
4. His plan doesn’t include tax increases. (I’m suspicious of this one)
5. His plan will carry through until the end of 2012…and the elections.
The Republican leadership has just announced their plan so I am still trying to learn the specifics. It isn’t exactly cut-cap-balance but it’s close (according to Speaker Boehner). It only increases the debt ceiling by $900 billion. They also generate revenue by cutting discretionary spending by 1.2 trillion.
The big difference is that Obama is demanding that the plan extends through the end of 2012 (and through the elections) and the GOP’s plan only carries through until early 2012.
I think Harry Reid’s plan has a lot of “fuzzy” math involved and basically tries to throw a bone to both sides….no tax increases to please the GOP and no debt debate again until after the 2012 elections to please the White House. Reid is such a mealy mouthed schmuck…I have a very hard time watching him. Listen to his news conference (given just a few hours ago). He blames the Tea Party “extremist” for controlling the GOP and says that these extremists are ignoring what the American people want. (Warning…grab your barf bag before hitting the play button)

Hey Harry…..these “extremists” are the American people and it is YOU and your goons who are ignoring us.
From what I can tell by listening to the beltway pundits on TV right now, neither side is going to go for the other’s solution. It looks like they will be heading back to the drawing board unless someone surprises (or disappoints) us.
Obama is addressing the nation AGAIN tonight at 9pm.
What can we expect him to say? I’m sure he’ll say that he is the reasonable mature one and it’s the Republican leadership that’s holding our nation hostage.
I feel like we are hostages right now and it’s Obama who’s writing the ransom note.
A personal note of thanks to our readers
I wanted to take a moment today to personally thank all of HB’s readers for all of their support, most especially these last few months.
GREAT MERCIFUL ZEUS! Audit reveals MASSIVE voter fraud in Illinois elections!
Defend the Vote is an organization here in Illinois founded to empower citizens to protect the integrity of elections.
Shockingly, many Americans believe “somebody” is making sure the Left doesn’t tamper with elections results, using Big Labor, the Black Panthers, or other George Soros-funded goon squads to commit massive voter fraud. The unions in particular are engaged heavily in election tampering, since the unions need to elect Democrats to office so Democrats can ensure the unions bleed taxpayers for as much as possible in various union contracts.
Illinois is arguably the most corrupt state in the union when it comes to elections.
If Defend the Vote can audit the election process here in the belly of the curropt-o-beast, then perhaps we can be a test case for the rest of the nation to follow to TAKE BACK OUR ELECTIONS from the Leftist crooks who have gamed the system.
PLEASE read Defend the Vote’s latest press release detailing efforts to audit Illinois’ election process and hopefully you’ll get some ideas on how YOU can get a ball like this rolling in your own home state.
Do you know about the Rebel Evolution film from Hipsocket Productions?
The documentary film “Rebel Evolution” is still being prepped by Hipsocket Productions, but check out its website at www.rebelevolution.org.
The film features Brandon Michael Darby, Ted Hayes, PJ O’Rourke, Alonzo Rachel, Bill Ayers, and other names you might know.
Wink.
It’s a look at various people who’ve been caught up in the turbulence of recent years, as many who’ve dared to challenge their former political parties have been brutalized for doing what’s right when the party told them to do wrong. Others, like Ayers, represent the far extremes in politics that are tearing this country apart.
It’s an interesting project that deserves your support.
You can sign-up for email updates of the film’s progress here.
NOTE: It’s very useful to have an email address you use ONLY for political purposes/sign-ups like these. This way, your regular email box never gets filled up with all sorts of mailings. You can setup a free gmail, hotmail, yahoo, or hushmail account that you check once or twice a week to find all these sorts of news blasts when you have time to read them. Think about it if you’ve never tried handling things this way before.
Why are conservative bloggers struggling?
It has been brought to my attention that there are several conservative blogs that are really struggling financially. Struggling so much that they are in danger of having to shut down. I have been living in my own little “rose colored” world…..just happily blogging away when I had spare time from my job. That’s the operative word…..JOB. Many bloggers have lost their jobs due to this atrocious economy and are relying on donations from their sites to keep their families afloat. I feel like such a Pollyanna. I don’t carry the financial responsibility of HillBuzz….Kevin does (WELCOME BACK KEVIN!!!). Why is it that the liberal blogs get support from the George Soros’ of the world (and the Matt Damon’s and Sean Penn’s) while the conservative blogs are left to fend for themselves? You know that the DNC probably kicks money to their pet blog sites. Conservative blog sites are the backbone of the conservative movement. Where’s the Tea Party and the RNC? I realize that they may be supporting some sites but not enough.
One of our dear HillBuzz readers/posters is in dire need of help. Zilla(zillaoftheresistance) and her husband have both lost their jobs and are just about to sink (go to her site and read her post). Her Internet service was scheduled to be turned off today but some of her supporters have helped just enough to keep her going for a little while longer. Two other wonderful conservative bloggers( The Other McCain and Blazing Cat Fur )have also come to her rescue but they too are struggling. It breaks my heart.
Do you think that we could get Rush to take up our cause? Just one mention from him really makes a difference. These blogs are vitally important for the 2012 elections.
I’m very guilty of not giving a little to help in the effort (other than my time). I love Zilla and her site and she is a very big supporter of HillBuzz. Conservatives are not comfortable begging for money….it’s not in our character. It’s something that the left is very used to doing….relying on others and not taking responsibility for themselves. …but the time has come to help each other out.
What are your thoughts on this?
What can be done?
Research Needed: How does the Left link being conservative, Christian, and Republican all together?
Do you have a few minutes today to chime in with ideas and/or do some research to help answer the following question: How does the Left link being conservative, Christian, and Republican all together?
We see this all the time in the media, where there’s almost no commas separating the conservative, Christian, and Republican in the above. They all get lumped in there together, as if it’s a conservative-Christian-Republican identity with iron bands instead of hyphens.
I had a conversation with a reporter here in Chicago recently where he kept arguing the media doesn’t think like this, but he himself is consistently guilty of assuming that just because someone is conservative that person is a Christian as well, when the person could be a conservative Jew or Buddhist. A conservative also doesn’t have to identify as a Republican, and not all people who vote for people with (R) after their names are conservative or Christian at all.
But the media has created a label that’s stitched indelibly as conservative-Christian-Republican, and all three words are applied consistently to someone with even one of the attributes, whether they all apply or not.
Have you noticed this?
If YOU were sitting down to breakfast with a reporter and he claimed this does not happen — that people on the Left do not use the words “conservative”, “Christian”, and “Republican” as synonyms in their consistent speech — what would you say to refute his assertion?
Can you find some good examples in the media of “conservative”, “Christian”, and “Republican” either being fused together into one long sesquipedalian label or brandished haphazardly about as casual synonyms for one another?
Your help is greatly appreciated in proving this point to a reporter who’s actually willing to listen on this.
What happens when a local gay icon and prominent gay business discriminates against a Christian because of his religion?
There’s an interesting situation brewing here in Chicago that’s been occupying a lot of my attention since May for personal reasons…which you will probably start hearing about nationally very soon.
One of the big gay icons here in Boystown owns a very prominent business that discriminates against Christians. Specifically, the employees of this business target gay men who are Christian and tell them that they are not wanted as customers of the business. “Their kind” isn’t wanted inside, to quote the staff.
If management and staff figure out one of the employees is himself both gay and Christian — and that guy refuses to renounce Christ and follow the gay community’s fiat to trash his religious upbringing and religious family — then that gay Christian employee suffers relentless emotional, psychological, and even physical abuse (including a favorite trick where the staff rev customers up to harass the gay Christian worker, so the business can claim they “can’t control what customers do to anyone”. Wink, wink, nod, giggle). You will be absolutely horrified when you hear what happens to a gay Christian man working at a prominent gay business in Boystown owned by a man who is often referred to as “Chicago’s Harvey Milk”.
This is an interesting situation because both the business itself and the owner have gone on public record numerous times blasting conservatives for various alleged assaults on the rights of gays. It could even be well-argued that the businessman in question created a very successful cottage industry attacking Republicans as intolerant and claiming various religious groups discriminated against gays.
In the 2010 governor’s race here in Illinois, this business prominently displayed large signs claiming GOP candidate Bill Brady was a bigot and that he hated the gay community. This is standard operating procedure for the Left regarding elections here in Illinois, where the gay community is trotted out into the rainbow spotlight every few years to point fingers and call names, maligning conservatives as loudly as possible. It never matters that there’s no proof of any wrongdoing…and few people calling the likes of Brady a bigot even know what he’s alleged to have done to warrant the treatment. “He’s a Republican” is usually enough for most people in Boystown.
Today I’m wondering if you know of any other instances nationally where gay icons, businesses, groups, or gay-supporting media figures have discriminated against Christians.
Can someone continue to claim to be a victim and martyr if that person has now become a bully him or herself?
As we gear up for the 2012 election, the Left will count heavily on the gay community to do its duty and scream and yell every name they can think of at conservatives.
But, how seriously would the nation take these people if gay leaders and prominent businesses and groups were revealed to be hypocrites of the highest order? Claiming they are discriminated against by the religious, while discriminating against religious gays with abandon?
I have said this many times here on HB and wherever else my work has been published: I have been treated far better by conservatives as a gay man than I have been treated by the gay community as a Christian.
Have you had similar experiences or know of people who have?
There will be a lot more about this at the end of summer, into the fall…and it would be great to have your help putting it all into a wider perspective.
