The Hillbuzz community is awe-inspiring. Recently, when Kevin asked for help with his friend Cassie, Hillbuzz readers sent her (and Kevin) prayers and advice from all over the world. And Kevin is convinced that those prayers have saved Cassie’s life–and probably others, too.

As one of the team who has been working to launch Hillbuzz 3.0, I’d like to again come to the Hillbuzz community and ask you for prayers and support.

Bye Bye Easter Eggs…Hello Spring Spheres

Posted at April 13, 2011 by Bridget // Hillbuzz, The Left

" Spring Spheres"

I knew this day was inevitable.  The Christmas Tree has suffered years of assault and condemnation so…it stands to reason that the Easter Egg wasn’t going to be safe for long.   A Seattle elementary school has decided to call the Easter Egg a Spring Sphere ( so as NOT to offend anyone ).  Actually…it wasn’t the entire elementary school that decided to be idiots…the students didn’t have a say so in the matter and they are usually the most mature ones in these situations.  The administration decided to change the name….it’s always the administration that are the dumb-dumbs.

(American Thinker) The educrats strike again, and make themselves look ridiculous again, according to a 16 year old student identified only as Jessica, who volunteered to do a project at a local elementary school, supplying plastic eggs filled with jellybeans.  From MyNorthwest.com:

“I went to the teacher to get her approval and she wanted to ask the administration to see if it was okay,” Jessica explained. “She said that I could do it as long as I called this treat ‘spring spheres.’ I couldn’t call them Easter eggs.”
Rather than question the decision, Jessica opted to “roll with it.” But the third graders had other ideas.
“When I took them out of the bag, the teacher said, ‘Oh look, spring spheres’ and all the kids were like ‘Wow, Easter eggs.’ So they knew,” Jessica said.

Unbelievable.

California teachers union pledges support of convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal

Posted at April 12, 2011 by Bridget // Hillbuzz, The Left, The Race Industry, Unions

convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal

We shouldn’t be surprised by this story but it still makes my blood boil that the California teachers union is supporting this cop-killing monster.  The California Teachers Federation has just adopted a resolution that supports convicted cop-killer and death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Here’s the story…

The California Federation of Teachers — a branch of the AFL-CIO — has adopted a resolution at its annual conference supporting convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, the Daily Caller reports.

From TheDC, which notes that Abu-Jamal is now being called a “journalist:”

Among the resolutions largely pertaining to education and collective bargaining rights was Resolution 19 – to “Reaffirm support for death row journalist.”

“Therefore, be it resolved, that the California Federation of Teachers reaffirm its support and demand that the courts consider the evidence of innocence of Mumia Abu-Jamal,” the Committee Report reads.

Mumia Abu-Jamal, a former member of the Black Panther Party, was convicted of shooting, multiple times, Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981. He reportedly confessed to the crime and was given the death penalty.

Instead of recognizing Abu-Jamal’s conviction, the federation believes he is innocent and a civil rights hero.

“Mumia Abu-Jamal has for decades as a journalist fought courageously against racism and police brutality and for the human rights of all people and has taken strong stands in support of working people involved in labor struggles and in support of well-funded, quality, public education,” the resolution reads.

But not everyone is convinced.

“Somebody should tell the California Teachers Federation that this is over, he is in jail, he is going to stay there,” Daniel Flynn, author of “Cop killer: How Mumia Abu-Jamal conned millions into believing he was framed, told TheDC. “You have numerous eyewitnesses saying Mumia did it. You had ballistic evidence – Mumia’s gun at the scene was consistent with the bullet used to kill Faulkner. Mumia admitted after the fact that he did it.”

That doesn’t matter to the CFT. “The delegates decided it was time to reiterate that they supported him due to the irregularities that they felt had taken place during his case,” a spokesman for the organization told TheDC. He went on to say that the CFT takes positions on a variety of “social matters.”

Former Green Jobs Czar Van Jones is also an Abu-Jamal supporter.

Why on earth would a teachers union get involved in a death row case?

Shouldn’t they be concerned about educating the kids of California?

Obviously they’re not.

Newt Love: Thanking Our First Advertiser

Posted at April 12, 2011 by Kathleen Gee // Hillbuzz, Website

We love Newt Love.

Four words we never thought we’d say, certainly.

But then Newt had the business sense and moxie to go out on a limb and become the very first paid advertiser on the new, improved Hillbuzz.org. And for that we are truly grateful! (The other ads you see are affiliate ads, which means we don’t get paid unless you click on them and then eventually buy something from that merchant.)

Newt bought one of the square badges you see in the top of the sidebar, spending about $11 a day to support the site and gain an audience for his crime novels.

To thank Newt for his support, our new site designer, Michelle Schulp at Marktime Media, has generously donated her banner ad design services and will be giving Newt a premium upgrade of his ad in the next day or two.

We liked this idea so much that Michelle has kindly offered the same upgrade to the first 10 advertisers on the New Improved Hillbuzz.org!

So now would be a good time for you to discover why it makes sense to advertise on Hillbuzz.org, and enjoy the same premium ad design upgrade that Newt is going to get.

You just have to be one of the next nine approved advertisers who pay for an ad of any size on Hillbuzz. We’ll contact you privately after your payment posts to let you know the details.

Check out available ad sizes and pricing here.

And in the mean time, please go visit Newt’s page on Amazon.com and pick yourself up a little something.

Chicago school bans lunches brought from home…to promote “healthy eating”

Posted at April 12, 2011 by Bridget // Hillbuzz

Yuck!

Michelle would be proud.  A Chicago elementary school has banned all lunches brought from home unless the child has a medical excuse.  Now there is a parental (and student) uproar over the policy and the issue has gone viral.  The school district claims that it doesn’t have a policy that bans homemade lunches but the principal of the elementary school apparently acted on her own and made it law.

( Fox) A public elementary school is under fire from some students and parents for banning school lunches brought from home, the Chicago Tribune reports — a report the school district denies.

Little Village Academy, a public school on Chicago’s West Side, prohibits students from bringing homemade lunches unless the child has a medical excuse, according to the newspaper, which quotes school officials saying the rule is meant to encourage healthful eating, as students are forced to eat lunches served in the school cafeteria instead.

School Principal Elsa Carmona told the newspaper that she created the policy six years ago after observing students bringing “bottles of soda and flaming hot chips” from home.

“Nutrition wise, it is better for the children to eat at the school,” she told the Tribune. “It’s about the nutrition and the excellent quality food that they are able to serve (in the lunchroom). It’s milk versus a Coke. But with allergies and any medical issue, of course, we would make an exception.”

The school district, however, denies that such a policy is in place. In an e-mail statement sent to FoxNews.com, Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Monique Bond said that Elsa was “misquoted” in the newspaper’s report.

“We do not have a policy that prohibits students from bringing lunch/brown bag from home,” said Bond. “This principal was misquoted.”

“Over the last 6 years, she [Elsa] has tried to promote healthy choices beyond the classroom environment, hoping to encourage healthier options, but has never stated that parents were not allowed to send their children to school with a home lunch.”

Hey…I’m all for healthy eating…but it’s up to the parents to decide what’s healthy for their kids.

I wonder if the policy will change now that all eyes are on this Chicago school.

I always hated school lunches.

Mitt Romney makes a move

Posted at April 11, 2011 by Bridget // Cocktail Party GOP, Hillbuzz, The Soggy Sandwich Society

Well….Mr. Romney just announced he has an exploratory committee for a 2012 presidential bid.  This means, of course, that he will run for president.

( ABC )Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney formally launched his 2012 presidential exploratory committee on Monday  in a Web video, declaring that “President Obama’s  policies have failed.”

“He and virtually all the people around him have never worked in the real economy,” Romney said in the message. “They just don’t know how jobs are created in the private sector. That’s where I spent my entire career.”

Romney’s announcement comes on the fifth anniversary of his signing of a health care law in Massachusetts that is similar to the national law passed last year and backed by the Obama administration.

Obama has recently been bestowing frequent words of praise for the health care reform law Romney put in place, and Romney has been firing back, saying the two measures are not the same.

“He does me the great favor of saying that I was the inspiration for his plan,” Romney said at a speech in Las Vegas earlier this month. “If that’s the case, why didn’t you call me? Why didn’t you ask what was wrong? Why didn’t you ask if this was an experiment, what worked and what didn’t?”

He continued, “And I’d have told him, ‘what you’re doing, Mr. President, is going to bankrupt us.’ We can’t spend more money.”

Let the games begin…..

CAIR isn’t happy with the Oakland A’s

Posted at April 11, 2011 by Bridget // CAIR Bears, Hillbuzz, Unveiling Islam

The whining terror-linked Muslim group CAIR isn’t thrilled that the Oakland A’s are planning a Jewish Heritage Night….

( Jihad Watch )The malignant Islamic supremacists of Hamas-linked CAIR let their mask slip a bit, revealing the depth of their Islamic antisemitism. Honest Ibe Hooper here stoops lower than even I thought he could go, criticizing the Oakland Athletics for holding a promotion that is noble in light of the relentless vilification of Israel in the mainstream media and the world community today. Note also Honest Ibe’s whiny attempt yet again to claim victim status for Muslims in the U.S.

“Finding their religion: Oakland A’s plan first Jewish Heritage night,” by Michael McCarthy for USA Today, April 9 (thanks to Jack):

The issue of religious freedom vs. separation of church and state is always dicey and sports is not immune. A growing number of MLB, NBA, NHL and NFL clubs are offering Christian, Jewish and Mormon nights.

But a national Muslim advocacy group doesn’t think it’s appropriate for teams to mix religion and sports. If sports teams are going do it, then the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) wants equal time for other religions.

“The ultimate test of this kind of policy would be to have a Muslim Family Day — and gauge the public reaction to it,” says CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper. “Given the heightened state of anti-Muslim sentiment in our society, I have a feeling there would be some objections to that.”

The Oakland A’s, for example, will hold their first Jewish Heritage Night against the Los [Angeles] Angels May 17. Attendees get an A’s yarmulke and a seat in the plaza infield section for $26.

Wish I could be there. Go, if you can, and show your support.

On Sunday, the NBA’s Golden State Warriors will hold their first Jewish Heritage night, including a Q&A with Israeli basketball player Omri Casspi, Jewish music and kosher barbecue. The 2010 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants are planning Fellowship (Christian), Jewish and LDS (Mormon) days among various ethnic heritage promotions this season….

I wonder how long it will take for the A’s management to plan a Muslim night?
