VIRGINIA GROUND REPORT: What are young voters up to?
Dear HillBuzz,
You have had several Virginia Ground Reports, but I thought I could address Central Virginia, with an emphasis on the twenty-somethings.
Here in the 7th District, it was party time at the home of Pie in the Sky this weekend. The occasion was a backyard oyster roast in honor of a young couple who will be marrying soon. There were 300 Chesapeake Bay oysters, shrimp, homemade Brunswick Stew, hot rolls, Smithfield ham, and lots and lots of cold beer. Cab rides home for everyone. It was a beautiful night, with a full moon, a fire in the fire pit, lots of twinkly lights and candles, and 60 young people aged 20-28. And as their hostess, they were obliged to talk to me! These kids are going to vote, and they are going to vote Republican this year. They were at various stages of young adulthood. About half were couples, some married but most haven’t made that leap yet. Two couples (both married ones!) were brand new parents. Most of them are underemployed, highly educated, not typically political, but they are mad. They all want to buy houses because they think the low interest rates and future inflation make it a smart move, if one has any sort of job security. They recognize that home values may well fall again, but they think they can ride that out due to the low interest rates, and they want to stay put for a while. They might fall into what you like to call the frat boys, because there were lots of khaki pants, not a hipster in the bunch, so maybe not very representative of their entire age group. I knew that palm cards at my party would be a violation of local etiquette, but I used conversational entrees to broach the subject. “Dancing with the Stars” was one way to tilt the conversation. Most seemed to really like Bristol Palin. They thought she does not have the particular talent that the judges seem to be looking for, but they admire her for trying. No bad remarks about her mother, either.
We are in Eric Cantor’s district, who should be in good shape but he does have 2 opponents: a Democrat who is a social worker in a neighboring county that was rural but is becoming suburban, and an Independent who is a small government, fiscal conservative, named Floyd Bayne. Bayne has the better chance of the two opponents, but I don’t think Eric is in trouble here, even though many are not convinced that Eric is as conservative as they would like.
I thought it was interesting that one of the younger kids, still a student at the University of Virginia, decided to register to vote in Charlottesville instead of voting absentee here. Charlottesville is in the 5th District, and it is a much more competitive race, with the first-term Dem. Tom Perriello running against a Republican and an Independent who was a loser in the Republican primary. She thought that her vote against Perriello would mean more than a vote for Eric Cantor. She said that lots of the kids in the engineering school at the University are doing the same thing.
Richmond is split into 2 Congressional Districts, the 3rd and the 7th. The 7th is Eric Cantor’s. In the 3rd, Dem. Bobby Scott has been there as long as I can remember, usually running unopposed, but he has a Republican opponent this year who has been endorsed by our local newspaper. His name is Chuck Smith and he is a very handsome black former military man, who is a lawyer, I think. The 3rd District has lost a lot of jobs since 2008, with the closing of Circuit City and Qimonda, and the black population in this area had been severely impacted by this. I admit that I had not heard of Chuck Smith until very recently, but I am encouraged that Bobby Scott has opposition.
For 2012, I am having all of these kids back. For the price of beer, I think I can get them working for President Palin.

ALABAMA GROUND REPORT: Good 'Ole Boys sporting Palin 2012 bumper stickers
Dear HillBuzz,
Earlier this week, another reader sent in a ground report from my same district detailing how our faux Republican Congress critter fled the Democrat party he was elected under in 2008. Parker Griffith, as expected, was booted out during the primaries. Now we have a true conservative running in his place.
But, since that report already went into details over how our district is leaning, I wanted to bring up an issue that affects the entire electorate of the local Alabama State Legislature. Our legislature has always been dominated by Democrats, although our brand of local democrat is probably much more conservative in a lot of areas than say, California Democrats. However, recently several Federal indictments were handed down charging several casino owners, lobbyists and senators with conspiring to buy votes in order to get electronic bingo legalized.
While at first glance, most people don’t really care if bingo is legalized in our state, myself included, one of the involved has already plead guilty to offering two million dollars (TWO MILLION) to a senator for his vote. This case has placed Alabama into the top 4 or 5 “most corrupt” governments column.
Conservatives and Liberals alike are quite embarrassed by that. Because the populace is so angry and fed up that our government reps acted so cavalierly in these tough economic times as to making quite dirty and underhanded bribery seem like a game to them, that it is possible that control of the legislature could shift to the Republicans.
For trivia buffs, the history of the Republican party in Alabama is summarized here: http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Alabama_State_Legislature. I found it to be quite interesting.

PS – I am seeing more and more “good-ole-boy” pickup trucks with Sarah Palin 2012 bumper stickers just about every day.
A few words on that "Democrat Insider" series — that yet again ignores the Obama "Race Bomb", scorched Earth, failsafe
I admit these “Democrat Insider” bits being published by Ulsterman at NewsFlavor are interesting and fun reads. They’re poorly written and come off a lot like a grade school play, but it’s fun to imagine the current president giggling and acting silly during important meetings, being unable to focus or control himself, and obsessing over Justin Beiber or some other teen heartthrob during a briefing on Afghanistan. Well, actually “fun” isn’t the word, but more like “terrifying”, since this is supposed to be the President of the United States and America’s Commander-in-Chief.
This is exactly the Obama everyone in Chicago knew…and the reason so many of us on the ground here put everything we had into stopping him from becoming president in 2008. He’s immature, spoiled, intellectually incurious, and wholly controlled by the Left. He doesn’t really give a damn about what happens to this country, and only wanted to be president to live in the White House, fly around on Air Force One, eat anything fancy he wanted at whatever time of day he demanded it, and become the biggest celebrity in the world at the moment.
So, in this regard, these little “Democrat Insider” pieces by Ulsterman are spot-on. They also deal with Obama being heavily medicated, which Ulsterman claims is for depression, but there’s more going on there that Ulsterman and his sources don’t acknowledge — and that’s Obama’s Parkinson’s, which for some reason the media won’t talk about…but his Parkinson’s, and the medication he is taking for it, accounts for a lot of his strange behavior. Anti-depressants do NOT do all the things Ulsterman’s pieces acknowledge Obama is doing…but the Parkinson’s medication, combined with that anti-depressant cocktail, would explain it all perfectly.
Just saying.
But, the biggest problem I have with these “Democrat Insider” pieces is just how foolish the Democrat insider seems to be…naive, actually, being a better word for it.
Repeatedly, this man claims the Democrats are working to push Hillary Clinton to challenge Obama in the 2012 primaries…insisting she would become the nominee after a fight, and then go on to the general election.
As much as I’d love to see that happen in a fantasy world, and as much as I’d like to see Hillary Clinton be given the nomination she rightfully won in 2008 (winning more votes than anyone in history in a presidential nominating contest), the elephant in the room people like the Democrat insider in the Ulsterman pieces ignore is the “Race Bomb” Obama would surely drop on HRC that would taint her for life and decimate any chance she’d have of winning the general election.
If Obama is challenged in the 2012 primaries, the Obamas — most especially Michelle — will hit the road spreading word in the black community that racists are trying to take the presidency from him…because he’s black.
You saw the Obamas do this in the 2008 primaries and general election, where they racialized those contests, most especially the South Carolina primary.
It’s beyond naive and into the realm of idiocy to think these people wouldn’t absolutely nuke anyone who dared challenge Obama for the nomination in two years…revving blacks up to near-riot grade anger over someone “trying to take this away” from him.
Not once has the “Democrat insider” in the Ulsterman articles addressed this simple fact.
Or the reality that even if someone like HRC succeeded in “taking the nomination away from him” that she’d be able to proceed into the general election with the media and black community actively hating her for “taking that away from Obama”.
Because this is how all of this would be couched…in terms of the “historic and unprecedented first black president” having the nomination “taken away from him”.
The Obamas love playing the victim. We’ve seen repeatedly they are sore losers and spoil-sports. They are two people who are driven by grievance and a sense of entitlement unparalleled in American history.
If you think Michelle Antoinette will give up all the trappings of life in the White House, all the Wednesday cocktail parties and the lavish Versailles-grade fetes she throws for any occasion she can think of, without one Hell of a fight, you are crazy.
I’d love to see Ulsterman’s “Democrat insider” address this.
Then talk about the reality that a Democrat cannot be elected president without lockstep black voting (and the white guilt liberals who shadow the black vote like remoras).
Even if Obama used his Parkinson’s as an excuse to step aside and not seek a second term, blacks would be dejected and disappointed Obama didn’t run again…AND, more importantly, I firmly believe Michelle Antoinette would be unable to resist taking jabs at HRC if she became the nominee instead of Obama…sending coded signals to the black community to sit home and not turn out in 2012 so that HRC would lose.
It just makes no sense for HRC to put herself into this no-win situation with blacks.
Obama needs to fail on his own, in a way that precludes him from dropping any “Race Bombs” on anyone.
Blacks will be upset he lost, and was a failure, though just like with OJ Simpson and Michael Jackson, blacks won’t ever admit any of Obama’s faults. They will, to their deaths, attack anyone who challenges the narrative they’ve written for their hero…and make an enemy of anyone out there who dares to confront, criticize, or run against this man they’ve made into a small-g god.
The Clintons are too smart to be nuked by the “Race Bomb”.
And anyone who does not appreciate this is, in a word, stupid.
No matter how “inside” he claims to be.
GEORGIA GROUND REPORT: A Constituent's Letter to John Lewis
A Constituent’s Letter to John Lewis
My husband and I are the first people in our families to graduate from college (on scholarship to West Point). Yes, we’re black, so no you can’t write us off as racists. We’ve worked hard, served our country on 4 different continents, and are finally at a place where we are each earning six figure incomes. We own our own family business in addition to working full time, and all I ever hear you say or do is to our detriment. You and the rest of the federal government already take HALF of our earnings in taxes/Social Security/etc. After we pay for Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, and countless other government programs you keep voting for, we have 50% of our hard earned dollars left. Out of that 50% we have left, we have to buy our own health insurance, our own 401k (because even though we’ve paid over $100,000 into the SSA, we’ll never see it), our own groceries, our ever increasing property taxes, and our own charitable giving.
Through a lot of prayer and hard work, we are debt free and operating in the black….unlike you’ve done with the other half of our money. You and Obama (who you’ve voted with literally every time) have run up our debt in less than a year and a half more than every other president in history combined. And you have the gall to try to say that it’s for my own good. Not only is it not good for me, I have to fight you and your policies every day of my life just to try to take care of my family/business. And yet I hear you say time and again that I’m not doing my fair share. I want you to explain to me how my husband and I are not doing our fair share. We are doing exponentially more than our “fair share.” Over 45% of the people in this country (and I’d wager a significantly higher percentage of those in the 5th) pay NOTHING AT ALL in taxes. Nothing. And as if that insult weren’t already making my blood boil, now you are trying to adjourn and come home to try to get re-elected (I hope and pray you and your entitlement policies get voted out of office) without voting on the record about whether to extend my tax cuts, provided me by President Bush (who has done more for me than you ever did). In an economy that is already the worst its been in my lifetime, we are waiting to make business decisions for 2011 because we don’t know what the tax penalties will be. And if you don’t extend the Bush tax cuts, my family will be paying 60%ish of our income to you. IT’S RIDICULOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE for you to keep taxing me to death for trying to live the American Dream that is my birthright.
I want to know 1) what you think my fair share of taxes is (80%? 100%? Why not just go to work all day and then go to the food line to get bread and toilet paper from the government? Is that what you want?). 2) Why you are scared to vote for raising my taxes right before you come home to try to get re-elected 3) How on earth you sleep at night when you are leading America to live on credit (doesn’t work for my family or yours, yet you think it should be fine for America) while we responsible Americans not only do our “fair share,” we drag the rest of you along as well. I’d love to get your irresponsible spending, ill-conceived policies, and all the succubus non-taxpayers who keep living off the dole off my family’s back. They can work their way through school, pay off student loans, work hard working multiple jobs, and live the American Dream just like we did. I shouldn’t have to pay their way because they chose not to do so.
My husband and I grew up in the Atlanta public school system with single moms and all the odds stacked against us…and we made it. And we’re both disabled veterans as a result of that journey, who would gladly do it all again. Don’t you dare tell us we are not doing our fair share. And I don’t want some canned form letter some staffer sends to try to get rid of me. I want a real response from you as to my concerns…after all, I am your employer. I have the right to hire you, fire you, and your paycheck is paid with the money you steal from me. I want answers.

Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild on Neil Cavuto…and will be on FOX November 2nd for the election
For those of you who don’t know, Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild was one of the Democrats’ most successful fundraisers until 2008. She’s a personal friend of Hillary Clinton’s who was one of many Hillary Dems, ourselves included, to leave the Democrat Party when Obama took it over and pushed it to the Left.
Lady Lynn continues to work against Democrats today, much as we do.
Here she is on Neil Cavuto above…and we’ve also learned she’s going to be one of the commentators on FOX’s election night coverage as well.
Marvelous.
OHIO GROUND REPORT: Cleveland Heights
Dear HillBuzz,
I live in Cleveland Heights, which as you well know, is full of devoted socialists and Obama worshippers. There are still plenty of Obama bumper stickers and Fisher yard signs but there are green shoots of conservative revolution, too. My neighbors, a Jewish family who are former hippies and ardent liberals, had their yard plastered with Obama signs last election cycle. This year, they have Republican yard signs. ‘Nuff said.JaneinOhio |
NEW JERSEY GROUND REPORT: Fake Tea Party candidates meant to siphon off votes to help Democrats
Dear HillBuzz,
As I have mentioned a few times, we have a fake “tea party” candidate in NJ-3, which covers northern coastal Ocean County and south west to Camden County. Peter DeStefano, the aforementioned fake, was assisted to onto the ballot in the “Tea Party” line by the incumbent D rep, John Adler’s aides and supporters – one of which is now the press aide for Coons in Delaware. Believing that they could take as much as 5% of the vote away from Jon Runyan, the R challenger with their dirty trick, they didn’t think they’d get caught since this area has heavy tea party participation. But there is no “NJ tea party and as each small local It was reported a few days ago that DeStefano recently went bankrupt. http://www.bankruptcyhome.com/bankruptcy-news/800126699/NJ-congressional-candidate-in-bankruptcy How did he pay the filing fees? Or did someone else pay for them. Investigations are ongoing – the press is very curious about this.
Yesterday, on the way to my doc’s office right next to a large hospital, I saw my first sign for DeStefano, [red with an Obama swish and a star on top] at a traffic light. It made me so angry that I put the car in “park” got out and took the sign and tore it up and then stomped on the pieces. Amazing how that reduces stress. People were honking their horns presumably rushing me to get my butt back into my car and get moving…but it turns out that they were honking for what I did. As they pulled around me, they were all giving me thumbs up and one trucker for a “union-based” large construction company yelled “Yeah, honey, rip it up good…he’s a f&%*#!g plant!” It made me feel good that the people in this district seem to “get it”.
Driving back home through 5 little towns in northern Ocean County, there were lots of political signs in residential areas. Where there were signs for D’s, there were no John Adler Signs. Where there were signs for local R’s, there was ALWAYS a Runyan sign. And the signs were running 10 to 1 R. That was not the case in 2008.

Martha Coakley does not want anyone talking about the Hilary Swank movie "Conviction". Guess what we want to talk about a lot from now until the election? Yup, the movie "Conviction".
Tonight, after we’re done canvassing in the field against Jan Schakowsky here in Chicago, we’re going to see the movie “Conviction” so we can write a review of it and talk about it in great detail between now and the election.
This is because last night we received word from people we know in Massachusetts that Martha Coakley literally had a screaming and shouting temper tantrum the other day in a campaign meeting, angry the movie “Conviction” was released this Friday, so close to the election.
People of Massachusetts — you need to talk about this movie.
You need to get people’s butts into theater seats to see it.
It’s driving Martha Coakley crazy because it reveals just one of the cases Coakley blindly pushed — without really stopping to look at the evidence as to whether someone was really guilty or not — in her zeal to climb the ladder and ultimately become the Massachusetts Attorney General.
There’s a reason Martha Coakley is ranked as one of the worst AGs in the country (also on the list, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Jerry Brown of California, and Lisa Madigan in Illinois…all names you know also from this site).
It would be amazing to find a way to get as many people in Massachusetts to see this movie as possible…because apparently Martha Coakley is upset enough by it to throw one of her famous tantrums.
If we were Hilary Swank, we’d sure watch out for Marsha’s goons, because they’re apt to push her to the ground the way Coakley ordered them to shove that reporter who dared question her during her Senate race in January.
MISSOURI GROUND REPORT: How is the Carnahan dynasty doing?
Dear HillBuzz,
I live in mid-Missouri west of the Missouri River along the I-70 corridor. I make my home in a rural town with a county that votes 60% Republican most of the time. I work in Columbia, Missouri, which has a liberal bent, due to the University of Missouri. Interestingly enough, the liberal editor from the Columbia Daily News endorsed Roy Blunt for Senate over Robin Carnahan, our current Secretary of State. Both Robin and Roy (sounds like a 1950′s sitcom) are from political dynasties in Missouri and a lot of us will be holding our nose when voting for Mr. Blunt, but vote we will, because we know that the Carnahan dynasty would willingly take our country to the road of ruin. Mr. Blunt seems to understand the draw of the Tea Party and has been openly courting them over the summer and fall. They will have to keep the pressure on him so he doesn’t slip back into the dark side and start spending like a “drunken sailor”. Robin’s brother Russ is running for re-election in his district in St. Louis and we are pretty certain that he will be losing that race. We have another really interesting race between Ike Skelton and Vicki Hartzler (Mama Grizzly). Vicki might actually be able to pull this one out for the GOP. She’s a classy lady with a backbone of steel who is taking on Ike “Blue Dog” Skelton, who everyone knows voted for Obama Care (to their absolute horror). He’s been in their way too long and needs to go.
COLORADO GROUND REPORT: What's happening with the Maes/Tancredo situation?
Dear HillBuzz,
As a political neophyte here in Colorado, I do not have knowledge of the full back-story on state Republican politics. Clearly there have been problems within the party for several years. There is rancor and division at the local and state levels stemming from the past several elections. One reason the liberty movement is so strong in Colorado is in response to the tactics and failures of the Republican establishment. It is also in response to the Democrat blitz to turn Colorado blue, detailed in the book The Blueprint.
