Joe Biden's Ice Cream…and the coming "Marie Antoinette Moment" for this administration
We know we’re going to get a lot of mileage out of Joe Biden’s disastrous appearance at a Milwaukee custard shop, seeing as how we love posting the ice cream orgy images of Biden gobbling down frozen treats pornographically while on the campaign trail in 2008. There’s actually a potential hobby involved in this — tracking down Biden + ice cream images from over the years, and compiling them into an archive and resource to be deployed whenever he does something stupid. The Milwaukee visit by Biden only adds to an already established canon.
The remark Biden made in Milwaukee, about a small business owner being “a smartass” for wanting to keep more of the money his business makes, and not hand it over to the government to be wasted, is indefensible…and is more truthful than Biden intended, in that as Vice President of the ruling party Biden, despite his idiocy and ice-cream induced highs, speaks for the Democrat Party. Biden’s certainly not breaking any new ground here: Democrats have considered anyone who doesn’t agree with them “smartasses” or worse for years.
They are only recently, however, comfortable enough in the halls of power to loosen their masks and allow their true feelings to shine through…in remarks like the one Biden made so casually.
There’s a “Marie Antoinette Moment” coming for Democrats in the next year or two that will be an absolute disaster for them, in the way Jimmy Carter’s rabbit attack and wimpy gray White House sweater were in the 70s. It’s going to be similar to Bob Dole falling down at a rally during his 1996 campaign. It will be an image, a soundbyte, a little clip that captures the spirit of what people are feeling about Democrats right now: that Democrats don’t care about anything but pork spending, that Democrats have contempt for working people, and that Democrats want to take people’s hard-earned money and give it to welfare queens and Democrat-controlled constituencies that will just channel that money back into keeping Democrats in power.
Carter’s rabbit trouble and sweater made him look weak, and like a colossal idiot.
Dole’s fall to the ground made him appear feeble, and it solidified the talk that he was too old and disconnected to be president.
Biden’s ice cream store meltdown is not enough to give Democrats a “Marie Antoinette Moment”, because the smartass bit is not a catchy phrase like the alleged “Let them eat cake” attributed to the disconnected French queen who could not relate to the suffering of her people. Whether she really said this or not, and whether she truly had no grasp of what was happening in France as she continued to spend so much of the public’s money on excess, doesn’t matter as much as the fact that the reports of her remarks caught WILD FIRE because it was so believable and in keeping with the perception of her that’s out there.
Though she’s been strictly controlled, monitored, and chaperoned while in the White House, we still believe Michelle Obama will be the cause of this “Marie Antoinette Moment” for this administration. One day, as the polls continue to tank for her husband, and she catches fleeting glimpses of reality in the cult of personality that now surrounds her, she’s going to crack and throw a tantrum that’s going to be recorded by someone. She will let her mask slip, and she’ll say things, the way Biden says things, that reflect what the Obamas really think of Americans.
Perhaps these things have already happened, but the Media’s chosen not to report on them, the way the Media chose not to report on the woman who claims Al Gore sexually assaulted her, or the way the Media chose not to report on John Edwards’ affair, love child, and misappropriation of campaign funds. The Media has a practiced and talented knack for censoring things that reflect badly on Democrats.
But, the Biden “smartass” remark got through the censorship wall.
One day, something from Michelle Antoinette, or her husband, the current “president”, is also going to get through…and when it does, it’s going to be as memorable as the Carter rabbit and sweater bits, the Dole fall from the campaign stage signaling the collapse of his campaign, and that “Let them eat cake” remark (real or imagined) that summed up the perception of France’s queen.
We have no idea what it will be, but if Biden’s a career politician who has enough experience to keep his emotions in check and not make mistakes like this, and the pressure Democrats are under now is so great that HE’S saying things like this that he shouldn’t, then what chance does someone like Michelle Obama have of NOT making history by uttering something so memorable, so stark, so true that it ends up encapsulating all the angst the public is feeling towards this administration.
