Our favorite artist, the incomparable Chrissy-the-Hyphenated, needs a great photo of Nancy Reagan deplaning Air Force One for the next Class vs. Crass installment.
Can anyone locate a pic of Mrs. Reagan arriving somewhere, representing the United States and its presidency with the utmost style, grace and class — hopefully resplendent in red, her signature color?
Any and all photos of Mrs. Reagan deplaning Air Force One are great source material for Chrissy. Either add a link to this thread, or email them to us at HillBuzz@gmail.com, ATTN: Chrissy! and we’ll make sure she gets them.
Oh, this is going to be a good one, thanks to all of your help!
****************************************************
UPDATE: Much thanks to everyone for their help with this project. Because of your EXCELLENT research, we went a different route, and instead of featuring Mrs. Reagan deplaning, we went with this other pic instead, found through your Googling.
What class — even at a basketball game.
We know we aren’t alone smiling and fondly remembering what it was like to have an excellent First Lady like Mrs. Reagan in the White House.
Please keep adding to this thread and celebrating Nancy as much as you’d like, and adding your links to your favorite photos of her so that Chrissy can use it as a resource for future installments of Class vs. Crass.

These are wonderful…and one of them will probably end up on the wall here at Buzzquarters (gotta love IKEA for really quality cheap frames), but we really, really want one of Nancy in red arriving on Air Force One. It HAD to have happened in the course of 8 years.
Maybe someone could contact the Reagan Library?
May 5, 2010 at 10:53 am
I was looking at the same website…it may have happened (Nancy in red arriving on Air Force One) but what I have noticed is that she hardly ever deplaned (or boarded for that matter) without the President..I think she was kind of old-fashioned that way and also really loved and him and being with him…hmmmm…will keep looking.
May 5, 2010 at 10:56 am
She must have made trips solo as First Lady.
Here’s the thing: when she DID travel solo, she would have used the 747, but it would have been Special Air Mission whatever. So, Googling “Nancy Reagan” + Air Force One might be tricky…because on a flight that President Reagan was not on, the plane would not have been called Air Force One.
That might be why we can’t find what we’re looking for.
May 5, 2010 at 11:06 am
I’ve noticed that, too, Mark. I found a picture of her embarking / disembarking a plane without Ronnie, but it was when she left from his funeral and she’s in all black.
May 5, 2010 at 11:01 am
Lovely, Elegant, Respectful! Jackie, Lady Bird, Pat, Betty, Rosalyn, Nancy, Barbara, Hillary, Laura–Classy Ladies All. I guarantee, after these usurpers leave OUR WH, the next First Dude/First Lady will show respect for our country in all ways again.

Just as a quick aside…if you go to people.com there are a few pics of Sarah and Piper from last night’s TIME 100 dinner…she was on the list you know…it’s a pic of Sarah and Betty White..and Piper and Ashton (Kooker) I mean Kutcher..
May 5, 2010 at 11:23 am
Aw, shoot. Made me cry. Those two LOVED one another. Remember how Nancy expressed surprise after President Reagan’s funeral, they were so grateful for the outpouring of affection across the country and said they “had no idea….”
May 5, 2010 at 11:34 am
Oh man, I watched the funeral and I finally broke down and cried when I saw Nancy leaning against his coffin, saying her good bye to him. Made me bawl.
May 5, 2010 at 11:47 am
Oh my … I’m tearing up.
May 5, 2010 at 2:57 pm
I watched that funeral from start to finish. It was so moving. At the coffin I felt so badly for Michael Reagan when Patty and Ron were holding Nancy and Michael was obviously shut out to the “outer circle.” That really sickened me. As if saying to him that he did not belong. That was his father but then his politics does not match theirs. They should be ashamed.
May 5, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Several things about that funeral are etched in my mind.
Nancy just didn’t want to leave him and eventually Patty had to gently pry her off the casket. She seemed stunned that she would have to leave him alone.
Also, Margaret Thatcher, who looked quite frail, but was so dignified and stately looking, and wearing a drop-dead feathered hat.
May 5, 2010 at 8:44 pm
That was such a heart wrenching momemt. Had pushed that memory to the back of my mind but as soon as I read your post Cat, the images came flooding back to mind.

Goosebumps.

Amy, I clicked on your first link and…started crying.
Thank you so much for this reminder.

Also her cinched in waistline.
She is truly beautiful

Brain Mulroney tells this story of how Reagan adored Nancy–
“President Reagan had spoken to Parliament, handled complex files with skill and good humor, strongly impressing his Canadian hosts. And here we were waiting for our wives.
When their car drove in a moment later, out stepped Nancy and Mila looking like a million bucks. And as they headed towards us, President Reagan beamed, and he threw his arm around my shoulder and he said with a grin: “You know, Brian, for two Irishmen we sure married up.”

Not that Nancy needed to worry about that. I think she must have been about a size 2.

It really makes us so proud to see the Reagans looking so crisp and professional — and so happy to be Americans and to be leading the country.
My, how things have changed.
May 5, 2010 at 5:00 pm
I love the Reagans. You have no idea how proud I was to be living in the USA when Ron was President. I was only there for less than 2 years but it coincided with the 2nd Presidential election that he won. It was a proud moment to know that he won for the second time.
I can assure you that the military were proud to serve under President Reagan.
May 5, 2010 at 5:57 pm
I will never forget the first Reagan election (against that awful Carter). I stood in a long line in the local school gym, and I even remember what I was wearing (gray blazer, gray and wine plaid skirt, heels; we used to really dress up in those days), but I digress. I was never so proud to cast my vote for president of the United States!
May 5, 2010 at 1:22 pm
On that last photo. See how Mrs. Reagan wore the bow and print blouse with the red skirt. Sleeves, baby, sleeves–and not skin tight. Take note, M.O.
May 5, 2010 at 11:10 am
Here are Nancy and Michelle together.

MO crushing the tiny Nancy with her giant hip! Awkward photo :P
May 5, 2010 at 11:19 am
“Hippy” women probably shouldn’t wear white skirts. Not very flattering.
This photo is definitely “Class meets Crass.”
May 5, 2010 at 11:26 am
It literally looks like MO pushed Nancy down inoto the chair and is holding her down. She’s so big and lunking next to frail looking Nancy (whose expression is kind of “Help me!”)
May 5, 2010 at 12:09 pm
OMG” your killing me,,,!(((lol)))
and holding her down, and crushing giant hip’s, “Hippy, and white skirt’s……….omg!
“poor Nancy” being attack by the hip’s!
May 5, 2010 at 11:32 am
I don’t know where to begin.
- A print with stripes
- Way too small ‘sweater’
- White skirt (white embiggens EVERYthing)
- Skirt too tight = wrinkles
- Greasy looking, stringy hair
- Last, but not least…putting her hand on Mrs. Reagan’s back!
How classless can this woman be? But then, didn’t she do the same thing to the Queen?
When they leave the WH, how long do you think it will take to fumigate the place?
May 5, 2010 at 12:35 pm
What’s the problem with the hand on the back thing?
I tend to misread social cues, so this is a serious question.
May 5, 2010 at 3:48 pm
It’s considered a grand faux pas to touch the Queen, who is, well, the Queen. Protocol dictates that you just don’t do it.
A few years ago when Prime Minister Howard of Australia touched her, he was dubbed ‘The Lizard of Oz’.
As a much older woman and former First Lady, touching Mrs. Reagan was also an overly ‘familiar’ gesture. Of course, both women are much too classy to have made a fuss about it.
May 5, 2010 at 5:02 pm
I agree about the combination of a print with the stripes. It looked tacky.
With her big butt she should wear dark colours. The white serves to accentuate that butt and hips…(note to self… no more light colours…:))
May 5, 2010 at 5:04 pm
It is not just the white skirt. She is where pencil style instead of A-line. It is a size too small and drags across her stomach.
Her hair looks horrible.
May 5, 2010 at 5:48 pm
Who did her hair? It’s horrible and does nothing to compliment her facial features. Is that the wig you all are talking about?
May 5, 2010 at 12:11 pm
MO looking a mess as usual.
Ugly hair. Tight, wrinkled skirt.
Mismatched, shrunken sweaters.
Ugh!
May 5, 2010 at 6:40 pm
I am definitely not a fashionista as I wear uniforms all day, however, I do believe that stripes do not go well with prints!
May 5, 2010 at 11:17 pm
And you can bet the farm that Nancy’s skirt is not all wrinkled from being TOO TIGHT…
May 5, 2010 at 11:10 am
What a class act!
Remember when Nancy went to some signing event early in Dr Utopia’s reign, and as he picked up the pen to sign, Nancy said, “oh look, he’s a lefty.” Priceless.
May 5, 2010 at 11:15 am
Gosh looking at all the photos of President Reagan and Nancy made me teary eyed…
I sure miss him. Back in the 80′s I felt safer knowing he was the president. And I was a Democrat then!
May 5, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Yep Cat, I miss him too, and long for those day’s. However’ not only was Mr. Reagan one fine POTUS he was also an amazing Governor for California. He had this state flourishing and always with a balanced budget and surplus to boot”
Truly, a born leader…,
May 5, 2010 at 9:36 pm
And I never got tired of listening to his speeches!…and centainly didn’t hit the mute button when he was on, like I do now!And he conveyed strength and humility. You could tell he really loved America…
May 5, 2010 at 11:17 am
I’ve already got the picture in my mind! You just mention Nancy Reagan and there she is. Classy lady. And isn’t it interesting that the matronly Barbara Bush, several sizes larger, with her great pearls always….looks just as classy in her own way. I’m beginning to see a pattern in why libs and leftists hate conservative women. Conservative women are generally happier to begin with…and their ultimate attractiveness works out from there, and is not tied solely to size, shape or race. Nancy, bless her heart, is still a classy lady although incredibly frail.
May 5, 2010 at 11:28 am
Conservative women are happy to be women. They don’t hate their own bodies and gender. They don’t resent that they can have babies and that those babies will come first. They don’t resent that men are usually physically stronger.
In general, they accept what they are and are stronger, better and happier than the ‘eternal chip on the shoulder’ lib females.

I recently read Mrs. Reagan’s autobiography, ‘My Turn’, published by Random House.
It’s just wonderful. I didn’t appreciate her during her husband’s terms, but I highly recommend this book.
She is not only very, very classy, but very smart. The closeness and love that couple shared was something else.

Good Lord, no wonder the women on the left hated her. She’s stunning! And she dressed impeccably. She, at least, had style and probably a designer who knew how to dress a lady. The left was so cruel to the Reagans – especially Nancy. They treated her with contempt.

How on EARTH can anyone look that dignified being lofted by these giant persons!???? Love it.

Oh, damn! That looks such ghetto trash! It’s bad enough to have those gag ugly shorts on a butt so big it needs elves to hold it up off the ground. But the worst are those bra straps hanging out! Oh, damn, that is THE classic hallmark of trash – you can’t keep your underwear from popping out.
This woman is a disgrace. She’s an absolute disgrace.

Classy Nancy.
And… remember how the media tore into her for the entertaining, the new china and her clothes? What a difference the initial after your name means in the media! Gushing all over the (D) names, nothing but criticism after the (R)s.
Thanks for the memories!! This was a great visit.
May 5, 2010 at 4:05 pm
Read Nancy’s book, ‘My Turn’.
Without being meanspirited about it, she goes into great detail about the shabby condition of the WH when they moved in. (After the Carters. KACK!)
There WASN’T a proper china service, so she got one. After all, they would be entertaining heads of state and she wanted to put the country’s ‘best foot forward’. She greatly respected the history of the WH and thought, as the People’s house, it deserved to be cared for.
All the bad press she got for extravagant spending on decorating, china, etc. was undeserved.
I shudder to think what decorating horrors exist in there these days. I’ve seen some of the AA ‘modern art’ the O’s have installed.
I may not know art, but I know CRAP.
May 5, 2010 at 8:08 pm
I remember that – and I also recall that there was not a single, complete china service in the WH that was not chipped, cracked or missing pieces, so Nancy got a new set. It would be horribly embarassing to serve state dinners with what was there, so she was perfectly justified.
May 5, 2010 at 10:32 pm
I remember that she got a lot of grief for spending taxpayer money for china. She got the last laugh as the money spent had been donations, not tax money.
May 5, 2010 at 11:24 pm
As I recall, the d’ohbamas are ordering new china, too. Tax money seems to be all right this time – even though it’s about three times what Nancy spent (and not a dime of tax money) – and it’s being ordered from Sweden or someplace. Not from an American company.
May 5, 2010 at 11:37 pm
Even after it was published a zillion times that not one damn dime of tax payer money was spent they went after her for that beautiful china pattern.
My cousin is right – liberalism ]not the classic connotation] is a mental disease.
May 5, 2010 at 12:59 pm
A couple of years ago, my family got to go on a private tour of Air Force One. It was wonderful.
I found out then, that Nancy Reagan decorated the current plane, but they never rode on it before it was finished. The first time Reagan rode on that plane was when his body / coffin were on board. We saw where the coffin had been placed and where Nancy sat with it on the trip. Quite a humbling experience.
May 5, 2010 at 1:00 pm
I should say, Nancy was the one in charge. I am sure more than one decorator was involved, but it definitely had an ’80s california color scheme!
May 5, 2010 at 1:26 pm
Looking at all those photos…. wow. Nancy Reagan always had such class and elegance. She had enough PRIDE in herself and her country to look planned, polished and… dare I say it…. proper in all her public appearances… as a First Lady should.
Gawd. MEchelle is such an embarrassment.
May 5, 2010 at 1:27 pm
Nancy Reagan was the epitome of what a First Lady should be. Here’a a photo of her at the dedication of her husband’s Presidential Library with 5 other First Ladies: Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, Rosalynn Carter, Betty Ford and Barbara Bush back in November 1991.
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Six_First_Ladies.jpg
Notice how all the FLs look like FLs. Even Barbara Bush not a teeny size 0 looks great. Obviously Hillary Clinton & Laura Bush got the memo on how to dress appropriately and followed it to a tee. Unfortunately, Michelle Obama must have read it & then tossed it, preferring to believe in her own fashion sense. I hate to say it but most of the time Oprah dresses better for her figure.
May 5, 2010 at 3:51 pm
Or, she wiped her derriere with the memo, then threw it on the ground for someone else to pick up and throw out.
May 5, 2010 at 5:15 pm
Rosalyn Carter was always well dressed too
May 5, 2010 at 5:56 pm
I think it’s more than just class, I think they truly respect the position they had and still carry, and realize they always represent the women of the U.S. Michelle hates other women and it shows. She has so much contempt for the position, and it makes me sick.
May 5, 2010 at 10:21 pm
What a great pic of the former FLs. They all look so put together. Even Pat Nixon, as frail as she was, is well-dressed.
May 5, 2010 at 1:31 pm
Take Note MO: Nancy wears jackets! If no jacket, her dresses have sleeves, usually long. Her sweaters are not too small–and they coordinate well. They are not school-girlish cardigans. Her skirts don’t bunch up. Her pleats are attractive and not school-girlish. Any belt worn is not WWF quality and is at the waistline.
And, and, ….Nancy smiles! She is even in some awkward situations, but remains graceful and dignified!
May 5, 2010 at 6:11 pm
If no one nominates that woman for “What Not To Wear” they should at least suggest that she watch the show. Stacey and Clinton would tell her that a jacket covers a multitude of sins, as well as balancing the top with that large bottom.

Going back to the 60s it was a mark of the left to tear down every value Americans held dear. Appropriate dress was part of that. Grooming and hygiene. Don’t shave under the arms or shave your legs. No bras. No deodorant. I sat in a booth next to a guy in a restaurant and it literally took my breath away. It was all nonconformist rebellion. That’s when all the swearing entered regular conversation. The “F” word was brought back. I think it’s quite likely that what we are seeing from this White House gang is a result of them being entrenched in that movement. They never got over it, they are still in rebellion. No American values will be expressed. They do not recognize appropriate dress or that it would be necessary to dress, behave and speak in a manner that would be deemed appropriate. It’s all in your face all the time. Anything to diminish American values. It’s intentional.

Here’s a nice one:

I can almost hear that gentle voice speaking of her “Ronnie”….
May 5, 2010 at 3:23 pm
So sweet…
May 5, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Wow. She really was beautiful.

Those pictures brought tears to my eyes. Seeing the two of them and the class they carried at all times made me remember what it felt like when we had a President and a First Lady that we could be proud of. God Bless America!

Okay, tell me people, during the Cold War, who would you have rather had at the helm?
The left spazzed about the possibility of nuclear war back then. Imagine it with a guy that tells the USSR, ‘uh, this is how many nukes we have, what about you?’
I never felt like our butts were flapping in the breeze like I do now.

You were lucky that JFK and then LBJ loved the country enough not to jeopardize it in the way it is now being done.
JFK was tested. He scraped through that test….

Michelle Obama = First Slob

Nancy Reagan: Classy with appropriate length skirt
Please, I don’t even want to think of the tacky MOO in that same pose!!!!
Further up in the thread, I posted a pic of Michelle’s favorite plaid shorts–wearing them on the WH lawn.
GAG!
May 5, 2010 at 3:07 pm
And rumpy to the max!

Nancy’s final farewell to her beloved Ronnie:

I love the humanity displayed in this shot.
May 5, 2010 at 8:11 pm
Oh boy, now you’re making me teary eyed!
May 5, 2010 at 4:02 pm
Ok… have been tearing up looking at all these pics. But the one of her kissing the coffin put me over the edge.
WOW… What a dynamic couple. What an AWESOME President… awesome First LADY.
May 5, 2010 at 4:21 pm
The “frumpy” Michelle–you know the one in shorts on plane stairs, with the dog, etc. seems to have a different shape and facial structure(equally bad) of the “other” Michelle we see with BO and at non-everyday events.
Chrissy-the-Hyphenated can you with your photo shop skills place one face over the other for comparison?
May 5, 2010 at 5:42 pm
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Vot are you tinking???
May 5, 2010 at 6:02 pm
Not really thinking. It is just that I don’t recognize the “shorts” pictures as being Michelle. The posture is so so different, too.

One of the great courtesies of the Hillbuzz Guyz as they welcome us and let us hang around and visit….evidenced by their update post this afternoon to “enjoy and celebrate Nancy Reagan” as much as we’d like to. Besides being great at your political snark and ear-to-the-ground-abilities on things we’d otherwise miss, you guys have graciousness that is very apparent. Thanks for a great down wandering down the halls of memory with Ron and Nancy Reagan. Chrissy–love what you are doing with this stuff. I LOVE it that the basketball shot is up! (Especially considering that the First Thug fancies himself a BB player. Hmph. Double humph!)

Great photos!
I cried and cried during Reagan’s funeral ceremony.
Nancy was criticized for wearing designer clothes, but she looked fabulous. It must have been wonderful for the the designers, too, because she had a lovely figure.
One of the things I miss the most about Reagan was his love for the American people. He wanted to inspire us to be great. He never, ever trash-talked, called different groups ugly names, nor was he dismissive.
He was a leader and a public servant.
May 5, 2010 at 6:43 pm
Truly aren’t we saints to have to put up with this blinding frumpiness?!!!
Novemeber is coming…2012 hurry!
May 5, 2010 at 8:10 pm
Yeah. It occurs to me that we might have some flashes of “feeling bad about our snarkiness” but when I get a day of reviewing the excellence of some real First LADIES, I believe we have actually been very nice, very reserved, very forbearing in biting our tongues where the First Woman is concerned. We’ve let her off easy.
May 6, 2010 at 8:20 am
We shouldn’t feel bad about criticizing Michelle O.
She is the one at fault; She shows marked disrespect for the position of First Lady.
May 5, 2010 at 7:50 pm
Boyz, Chrissy, and fellow Buzzerz…what a great, warm and wonderful thread. All I keep thinking is from Big Yellow Taxi ‘you don’t know what you had til its gone…’
We grew up with real leaders…(well there was that Carter lapse). But there was a sense of history, duty to Country and honor.
Now. Not so much.
Its like the parents have left for the weekend the house they worked all their lives for; and the irresponsible son invites his whole High School over; the furniture is ruined; the dishes broken; and the futon in the basement is smoldering and ready to ignite. And the son doesn’t care…cuz he’s leaving for college and he doesn’t have any worried about the mess he leaves.
If only it were that simple.
The Reagans were everything the Obamas are not.
May 5, 2010 at 8:29 pm
“Michelle Obama puts her own personal comfort first.”
SO well said — and THAT’S the reason why a sack of potatoes and a Hefty bag are more attractive than she is.
They live to serve. She thinks everyone lives to serve her.
May 5, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Neither she nor Barry have the proper attitude.
They are both public servants.
May 5, 2010 at 10:40 pm
er—not so much, actually.
May 5, 2010 at 11:11 pm
What I meant is that they are SUPPOSED to be public servants.
May 6, 2010 at 3:47 am
To expect them to be any kind of servant is raaacist stereotyping, didn’t you know?
May 6, 2010 at 8:16 am
Oh, of course. LOL
It seems that expecting Zero and Michelle Antoinette to do anything of substance is also racist. LOL
May 6, 2010 at 8:17 am
Reagan was the combination of leadership, love of country, and sense of public service.
I see those same traits in Sarah.
May 6, 2010 at 8:44 am
It seems that there are 2 MO outfits that stand out as THE WORST and most offensive:
1. The shorts while deplaning at Grand Canyon, &
2. The hideous tunic (T-shirt fabric?) with ribbons around her expanse for her visit to Westminster.
May 6, 2010 at 10:57 am
I agree.
May 6, 2010 at 10:59 am
And they’re the most ‘easy to compare with what other FL wore for the same thing’ kind of outfits.
I think we’d give her a pass even on the dog walking picture (OK< I'm stretching it but)if her public appearances were sterling. But private-public….she doesn't give a rats azz.
