Here’s another story about Rahm Emanuel dreaming he could become Mayor of Chicago, after Mayor Daley retires.
Folks, this will never happen. Emanuel is insane enough, and has a big enough ego, to believe he can make it happen, but it’s just not possible for the simple fact that Rahm has far too many skeletons in his closet to survive a Chicago primary, let alone a general election.
The Chicago black community will field a strong Mayoral candidate once Daley is gone, instead of the joke candidates that are regularly run against the Daley Machine. When that happens, you can count on things getting down and dirty in a Mayor’s race. No holds-barred was invented here in Chicago. The Mayor’s office is the biggest patronage prize in the state.
If Emanuel believes a black Mayoral candidate will not out him, and drag all of his former ballerina, going to movies with Secret Service agents, getting up to all sorts of mano-y-mano shenanigans in this city secrets into the headlines, he’s crazier than we already thought.
And we think Emanuel’s pretty damn nuts.
Increasingly, we believe one of two people will end up being Mayor after Daley: Sheriff Tom Dart, or State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.
Both of these people, surprisingly enough in Illinois, are decent, non-corrupt, public officials who we personally like very much. Especially Sheriff Dart — who is often like the one white-hatted, Lone Ranger-styled, goodguy gunslinger come to a town full of wild-west worthy greedy villains. We’ve liked the man for years, but really gained a lot of respect for him in how he handled the Burr Ridge Cemetery nightmare.
Dart presided over one of the absolute most horrific things to happen in Chicagoland for as long as anyone can remember — this was the crisis where it was determined Burr Ridge Cemetery had been dumping bodies into heaps behind trees and in gulleys, digging up bodies, reusing the coffins, leaving loved ones exposed to the elements and feeding them to animals. It’s worse than anything we could ever imagine.
Dart brought order to all of that chaos and somehow found a way to get things under control, against unimaginable odds. He was just the right man needed at just the right time, and if he could handle something off the charts insane like this, we can easily picture him tackling all the myriad other insane challenges facing the Mayor of a huge, mob-riddled, crime infested city like Chicago.
Dart’s just the sort to take names and crack skulls, when need be.
Mayor Daley wants current Chicago Public Schools chief Ron Huberman to succeed him. The MSM wants Rahm Emanuel to be Chicago’s Mayor, hence stories like this. The black community wants Jesse Jackson Jr., or someone else black as the next Mayor…anyone black, even if picked from the phone book, that’s all that matters.
Our first choice for the next Mayor would be Tom Dart. Our second pick is Anita Alvarez. Our third pick would be David Hoffman, the former Inspector General here in Chicago.
Daley does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, so who knows what will happen.
But, all of us here have the same chance of becoming Mayor as Rahm Emanuel does. No matter how much the MSM keeps trying to push this for Rahm.

I mentioned this story in today’s open thread.
Thanks for telling us how it is.
I’m not from Chicago, but just the thought of Emanual being mayor gives me the creeps!

If the Daley machine in Chicago is corrupt, how much worse would it be if Rahm ended up with the job?
One thing is certain, it would not bring visitors to Chicago if someone as corrupt as Rahm Emmanuel became mayor!!!

Why in the world would he WANT to be Mayor? Isn’t that like a huge step down? I can’t imagine with all his influence with Congress and the Senate and the President he would want that kind of position. Especially with all the problems the states are having. It’s only going to get worse with all of Obama’s policies. States are hanging on with the skin of their teeth.

Okay…so I just saw the interview when he actually SAID he wanted to be mayor. Of course…there has to be something in it for him. What a weird guy.

“Why in the world would he WANT to be Mayor? Isn’t that like a huge step down?
Probably because he thinks that may be the only public office he will be able to hold after this administration’s corruption is finally exposed. Maybe the sh*t is about to hit the fan. We can only hope….

“Anyone black, even if picked from the phone book” Isn’t that the truth.

“The MSM wants Rahm Emanuel to be Chicago’s Mayor, hence stories like this.”
I’m more curious as to why the MSM would push Rahm like this. Are they hoping he’ll self destruct? Are they desperate to have someone supplant Daley? Are they trying to push someone else in there by pointing out the clusterfark that will happen if things go on as they are? It’s an interesting question.

Maggie Daley has been in the news alot lately – her health is not great. I still think the Mayor will not run for reelection next year, using her health as his reason. I also think he will wait until the last minute to announce (like last time) his intentions – giving him the chance to throw his weight behind his choice – Ron Huberman.

A new race to watch!
14 days and counting to elect one of US to run for the Senate in Indiana:

If you’ve got some $$ around, let’s give this guy a boost!

Why is Huberman a favorite for Daley? Why him?
I guess Emanuel would want to be mayor of Chicago because of the sweet deals he could get. He’d be king of his own country in a way. As long as you know dirt on the opposition, they cannot air dirt on you very easily.

Another big ego in another big city. Poor Rahm… so self-deluded.

It’s Burr Oak Cemetery guys, not Burr Ridge. I had to do a double take when I read that – I work in Burr Ridge! I was like, “Wait a second, that happened here? I don’t remember that…”. Had to google it lol.
I agree with you on Dart, I’ve heard him on WLS speaking about the cemetery debacle and liked what he had to say about how it was handled. He seems like a straight arrow.

I can’t throw my support behind Dart after he refused to follow established law in ’08 when he publicly refused to process evictions due to foreclosures.
I understand his sentiment, but anyone in a position of authority who decides to circumvent agreed upon rules of conduct is not for public office. His responsibility was to enforce the law, not dictate based on his feelings for the law

Police officers do enjoy some discretionary power.
April 20, 2010 at 2:32 pm
Again, I understand his sentiment, but some discretionary power does not equate to a blanket refusal to continue enforcing a law.
April 20, 2010 at 8:26 pm
Police officers do have discretionary power to decide whether they’re going to act upon/against potentially criminal behavior. However, what they don’t have is the discretion to refuse to enforce a valid court order, and that’s what Dart did (and continues to do). It’s contempt of court, pure and simple.
Everyone in the foreclosure business in Chicago knew the instant that Dart made his announcement that he was going to “stand up for homeowners” that he was gunning for higher office. We had him pegged for state AG, but then Lisa Madigan chose not to run for the US Senate seat, and Dart would never beat an incumbent Madigan in an election.

Rahm said yesterday if Mayor Daley didn’t run he would. –Gee Guyz–how about another profane politician in Chicago? How does that strike you? Oh–I have another question–If Obama is indeed the Muslim he appears to be–how can the people in Boyztown support him? Those people have to kill all homosexuals to get to Paradise–the Koran says so.
April 20, 2010 at 4:47 pm
Rambo is creepy. I would never want to visit a city he controls…
Is there anything good or decent abt him?
April 20, 2010 at 11:04 pm
who will beat tom dart rahm no way
