Today, the lot of us did something we haven’t done in a very long while.
We went into a little Catholic church here in Boystown, and we lit every candle in the place, dropping a good $50 in the donation tin for all that fire and wax.
For us, who grew up Catholic but don’t consider ourselves religious at all anymore, it was kind of like visiting the Bulgarian or Icelandic embassies — we felt like strangers on foreign soil in many ways, but were welcomed all the same.
It was Panda’s idea to do this, because he said, “Well, it’s not going to hurt, is it? The worst that could happen would be we’d set something on fire accidentally, which would be bad, but they have all that holy water around, so it would work itself out.”
We lit the candles to pray for America.
Democrats, wholly controlled by the Left, are committed to destroying this country. They want to tank the economy so the current president can declare himself God-Emperor and remake the nation in the mold of the failed socialist states of Europe or the dictatorial banana republics of the third world.
In school, we were taught our Founders considered America a great shining city on a hill, favored and blessed by God high up above, to lead the world in prosperity and democracy.
As kids, our grandparents told us how hard they all fought when the Emperor of Japan and the most evil man who’d ever lived, the Reich’s Fuhrer, waged war to destroy that city on a hill. And every last one of them fought back, in their own way. In the army. In factories. With the USO. In the OSS. They did their parts, and they saved the world.
Well, all of those grandparents have passed on. Several good friends have also headed Home. Panda’s mom and dad, in fact, are up there too.
We lit all those candles tonight to get all of their attention, along with all the saints who will listen, and the spirits of our great and wise Founders. We sent our prayers out there to every hero of the Republic…to every man and woman who fell on a battlefield defending Old Glory…to every soul lost here on the homefront doing his or her part to protect and defend Lady Liberty…to every American of the past who loved this country more than anything.
We asked every last one of them to hear us tonight, and to mobilize in the world unseen to do whatever they could to stop Democrats from destroying this country.
We’re usually resolutely cheerful and as unemotional as possible around here. We’re not guys who cry often, no matter how bad things get, but we’ve never known of a time in history when America itself was in so much peril.
The Left is closer to its goals of destroying this country and rendering it “just another nation amongst 190 out there”. Perhaps the Devil itself, should it exist, is close to its own goal of smashing that city on a hill that’s endured for 233 years to lead the world to freedom and prosperity unparalleled in all history.
If the forces of darkness, socialism, and downright evil are so thoroughly mobilized, we hope the powers of good are aware of what’s going on. We hope armies of angels are in flight inspiring as many people as possible to resist the Democrats, to fight back, and to save this nation.
We needed to embrace emotion tonight.
Later this evening, we’ll get back to the bare-bones, by the books, strategy of organizing our idea to put enormous pressure on the wealthy donors who fund the DNC…to stop this madness immediately and rein Congress in. Because, that’s who we are. That’s how we can help.
But, we just love this country so much. We don’t want it to slide backwards. We don’t want the Left to gleefully destroy what generations before us fought so hard for.
We think of our grandparents staring down Hitler and Hirohito, and countless other villains, and socking them right in the face.
That’s what America should do to the despicable narcissist in the White House and the two reckless, ignorant, socialists in charge of the House and Senate currently.
If it doesn’t offend you to ask this, please pray for America tonight. Ask your friends to pray, too. Tomorrow, light some candles in your churches and ask the little old ladies in there to pray for our nation too.
We’re in trouble, people.
Deep trouble.
Worse than this nation has ever faced, because those who want to do America harm are not in Berlin and Tokyo, but in Washington itself.
They must be stopped.
We must pray that everyone has the strength collectively to form the Resistance needed to do that.
Please pray for our nation.
We truly beg of you.
Please pray we all have the strength to do our part to stop this madness.

BRAVO boyz!
Thank you so much for your prayers and patriotism!
I, too, will continue to pray for America.
March 17, 2010 at 9:49 pm
Boyz, I have often lit virtual candles for various prayer requests. Thought this might be a good community place to go when our thoughts turn dark and we think we are alone. We are not.
http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=USA
Simply go to this page, choose a candle, leave a short message, and light the candle. Your candle will burn for 48 hours.
I have titled the Group USA, so you can search for it if you can’t find the correct group.
March 17, 2010 at 10:12 pm
And send the boyz some dough!
March 17, 2010 at 11:22 pm
Done as well.

“Let Go, Let God”
He’s in control, trust Him.
March 19, 2010 at 10:32 am
The waning hours are upon us. It is time for noise. We must stop the Blue Devil from taking anymore of our freedoms, from tempting anymore of our
leaders. He has no shame and will never have any. He has taken our flag down in Haiti, attempted to influence our long term allies to sway them to his personal agenda. And what’s worse has failed at every sideways attempt to show he is a World Leader. He is not a World Leader, not a local leader, state nor country leader. He is an imposter.
Join together in stopping all that he stands for.
Time is short, make your voices heard.
Devil with the Blue Dress..Blue Dress..Blue Dress
Devil with the Blue Dress on.
March 17, 2010 at 8:26 pm
God Bless you guys!! I knew you was hearts of gold — and a Happy Saint Patty’s Day to you and yours too!
March 17, 2010 at 8:30 pm
Guys, I love ya and want you to remember… Strange things happen when you surrender your pride and call on the Lord. At the risk of sounding preachy, I was definitely no angel before I was born again. But it is AMAZING what happened in my life after I searched for God, and invited him into my life. And oh, by the way… Check out Andrew Klavan’s “find God in 60 days” video. Good shizz.
March 17, 2010 at 10:16 pm
How right you are. When I invited God back into my life the change was immediate and overwhelming. Amazing what can happen when the Lord is part of your life.
And thanks guys, what a great idea. I pray every night that the people I love are protected and taken care of, and tonight I will add my prayers for our incredible nation.
Gay man here too.
March 18, 2010 at 6:28 am
Amen amen and AMEN! Our job is just to seek … we don’t have to find the “answer” … it is only possible to “get close” anyway because we are insufficient to the task. Keep seeking, boyz! Don’t ever stop and God will honor that. As a matter of practice, I routinely question my faith … could I be wrong? Have I somehow been mislead? My answers consistently reinforce my belief in Jesus Christ. A life time of this is enough to convince the hardest of hearts that there IS a god and that he LOVES us.
March 17, 2010 at 8:32 pm
Great post, boys. Very moving and timely. I can feel your emotions through the computer! You are so right when you say that we are in big trouble. I’ve been praying about this for some time now, but I will take your advice and pray to our ancestors and founding fathers for help. God Bless you all and keep up your good works there in Boystown, America needs you!
March 17, 2010 at 8:32 pm
I am uniting my prayers with yours, and millions and millions of others. We all need to stick together in these most frightful of times. The forces of darkness never give up, and neither will we. Love you guys.
March 17, 2010 at 8:33 pm
I have been praying for weeks, but that isn’t so unusual for me.
March 17, 2010 at 8:34 pm
I’ve been praying and will continue to pray. What a beautiful post. God bless you.
March 17, 2010 at 9:57 pm
Yes, a beautiful post. It brought tears to my eyes.
March 17, 2010 at 11:21 pm
Mine, too, Opus. I would say this post was *inspired.*

Thanks Opus #6…
you are awesome!
thanks for the inspiring post, Boyz!
March 17, 2010 at 8:35 pm
I make this prayer for our nation all the time. One of my biggest fears is that God thinks we’ve turned our backs on him. He gave us this wonderful country with the best form of government the world has ever seen and all we can do is make his followerd and believers feel that they should hide and that they are racist pigs. Not allowing people to do something as simple as wish someone a Merry Christmas.
Well God, not all of us have turned our back on you…not by a long shot. Even these guys who have not entered one of your houses in many years, know down to the depth of their souls that we need you now more than ever. Please hear our pleas and help us defend this great country given to us.
Wow, I just broke into prayer…I don’t do that often!
March 17, 2010 at 9:13 pm
G8rMom7
I, too, have wondered whether these things have come upon us because we have forgotten God. I am heartened by this post of our Boyz. It is a testament to God’s word that His word will not return void.
God gave us the answer to healing our land. It’s found in 2 Chronicles 7:14:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
The Lord is hearing the prayers of His people. He knows the struggles each one of us have in the our understanding of Him. He accepts us as we are and loves the mere fact that we would take the time to ask for His help.
May God bless you, Hillbuzz Boyz.
March 18, 2010 at 7:14 am
Thanks so much CTmom for this post. It gives me hope – I knew it, but this really helped.
March 18, 2010 at 7:17 am
You beat me to it with this scripture passage–a favorite President Reagan.
Yes we should raise our voices to Him but with that is turning away from our wicked ways and repent. God wants a relationship not a bunch of needy whiners!
God Bless us on our journey.
March 18, 2010 at 1:27 pm
Love that verse. I am sure some of the things we have done in our country have not pleased God, but He will forgive and He will heal our land. Prayer works, I can’t tell you how many times I have seen it in my life, even recently. We don’t always get what we want, but God is always there taking care of us. All we have to do is turn to Him.
March 17, 2010 at 8:36 pm
You guys make me cry…thanks for reminding this ‘practicing’ Catholic to go practice!
March 18, 2010 at 7:13 am
Yes, this post gave me chills in my heart and made me misty eyed.
I’m going to send the boyz 50 bucks today to replace what they put in the offertory box.
And tomorrow is the feast of St. Joseph, he is a strong protector, we can seek his intercession for our nation as well.
“Worse than this nation has ever faced, because those who want to do America harm are not in Berlin and Tokyo, but in Washington itself.”
This thought taken from the Hillbuzz post is what has been nagging at me for days.
March 18, 2010 at 8:57 am
I’ve been praying a novena to St. Joseph for just this intention. I even put a prayer request to stop Obamacare at the St. Joseph Oratory website. His intercession is powerful.
You Hillbuzz guys are in my prayers, too.
March 17, 2010 at 8:37 pm
Awwwwwww, you Boyz just warm the cockles of my heart. (what does that mean?)
YOU PRAYED! That is sooooo cool.
Seriously, do you realize what this means?
You have always thanked your readers for praying, while making it perfectly clear that you were not the praying kind, which is just fine, of course. BUT. BUT. BUT. YOU PRAYED! You also have often spoken about how you believed that your readers prayers worked….and now YOU PRAYED!
I will light candles in my home tonight (does that count?) and PRAY. I will pray for YOU AND AMERICA, cuz just like you I fear for OUR COUNTRY.
I am scared shitless, in fact. I go ABOUT MY DAY AS i NEED TO, BUT always IN THE BACK OF MY MIND, WORKING IT’S WAY TO THE FRONT CONSTANTLY, IS THE NAGGING FEELING AND FEAR OF “wHEN? wHEN WILL THSI ALL COME TO A HEAD? wILL i REALLY BE PREPARED?”
GOD HELP US ALL.
*sorry bout the caps*
YOU BOYZ PRAYED! God Bless You! :)
March 17, 2010 at 8:39 pm
Boyz, one of your finer postings. A testimony to your character. Thank You.
The universal spirit that we each believe in will always protect our back. Something great is going to come from all of this. I believe!
March 17, 2010 at 11:27 pm
I believe too! What’s that old saying “It’s always darkest before the dawn”…I try to remember that when I am feeling discouraged.
And I remember everything that our Founders went through to give us this great nation. The unyielding perseverance of their spirit still runs through the veins of all American patriots who love this country.
In the words of Gloria Gaynor “We Will Survive”!
:)
March 18, 2010 at 2:44 am
This reminds me of another saying, “In the blackest of nights, the stars shine through.”
Bless you Hillboyz for praying for America and for encouraging others to pray as well. God will hear.
March 17, 2010 at 11:40 pm
I believe this too, sundancefan. I too was moved to tears when I read your post – Hillboyz. As I read your post tonight I couldn’t help but think about my own parents and grandparents – all now deceased. I think about my father and two of his brothers who were veterans of W. W. II. I think about my father’s father – who came from Germany in the late 19th century as a teenager, never to return to his native country, who believed in this “shining city on the hill”, who was grateful that he lived in a country where the sky was the limit for his dreams if he was willing to work hard and persevere. We cannot lose our way now. We owe it to our ancestors who came here because they had hope and faith that they would have a better life here. God bless you all here at Hillbuzz and I will pray that God will continue to shower blessings upon this great nation.
March 17, 2010 at 8:41 pm
God bless, you Boyz! I speak with volumes of experience when I say NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD!!! Oh, my friends, GOD (all caps here!!!) is more capable and kind than any of us can imagine. I know he can also “strike us all down” or at least let someone else do the job … but I live day to day at his will, hoping he will continue to bless and protect me and my husband and little daughters. I have added you (and our country!!!) to my list. God bless you, AMERICA!!!
March 17, 2010 at 8:42 pm
Pray…for our nation, our spirit, our individuality, our freedom, our liberty. Pray wholeheartedly, mean it, desire it, then… listen. Direction will be given for those who seek it.
March 17, 2010 at 8:42 pm
As my late, Irish dad used to say, with an affected brogue…”Saints preserve us.”
Please intercede on our Nation’s behalf.
Thank you Gentlemen of BuzzQuarters for your efforts; profound words; prayers and good intentions.
Gov. Palin was on with Hannity tonite. Everytime I get most discouraged…the ‘Saints’ send someone or something to offer (dare I say) hope.

YOU ARE SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, BOYZ!!!
This immigrant (legal) little old lady loves
this country like you all do.
I have been wanting to live in the ‘States’
since I was a little girl and members of the
GREATEST GENERATIONS saved my family’s and mylife. I finally made it in 1970 and, no
doubt, I love this country as much as any
other born PATRIOT!
I got a strong feeling of revulsion the first time I laid eyes on TheLightbringer.
My instincts, unfortunately, were right on..
I have been praying daily for OUR Country,
I will continue to do so ’til my last breath!
Remember:
LOVE DOES CONQUER ALL!
March 17, 2010 at 8:50 pm
Oh my goodness, bless you guys. I am so surprised to read this post because that is exactly what I have been doing all day and begging god to please help me to be what is needed to do what has to be done and thanking god for being born in this country and among my fellow Americans. Cause I love you all and I’m so grateful to live among you.
I’ll keep it up and hope you will too. Any odd moment is a good one to do some praying.
March 17, 2010 at 8:50 pm
Thank you HB boyz! Prayer is never wasted before God!
My heart is breaking over our country. If this bill is passed more people than ever will be on Medicaid. The states will have to pay more for them. The states are already hurting financially. They won’t be able to handle it.
This article saying the Walgreens in WA state won’t take any more Medicaid patients- even BEFORE this bill is passed- scared me half to death.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2011367936_walgreens18m.html
… our country is digging itself into a hole so deep that I don’t know how we’ll ever get out of it. God help us- I think He is the only one who can now….
March 17, 2010 at 9:43 pm
Today, I heard a caller on a talk show say that he took his Dad to the doctor; and in the office was a sign that said, “Due to tentative legislation, this office will no longer take Medicare patients as of April.” This is only the beginning of the loss of medical personnel. Many doctors are considering leaving, and we barely have enough as it is.
March 17, 2010 at 11:17 pm
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2011367936_walgreens18m.html
Walgreens in Washington State isn’t going to take anymore, either.
It’s just the beginning…
March 17, 2010 at 8:51 pm
FAITH. HOPE. CHARITY.
The Founders got by and through it all by utilizing the three words above-according to their TRUE meaning.
We will get through this if we have Faith, (true) Hope and Charity.
Glenn Beck did a whole episode on this last night and I got a little respite from my anxiety as I realized that I have been practicing this for some time now. Well, I vacillate a lot.
I have found much comfort and solace in baking cookies. I began in November for my large family at Thanksgiving. Then i could not STOP baking cookies. I had to FIND soldiers to send them to. :) (to get certified takes 6 months) Facebook came in handy via hubby.
But I can tell you all that as I prepare to send 300 more cookies to Iraq tomorrow, the Charity part of the three is equally as
important.
Baking cookies and mailing them to soldiers has kept me from going totally, bat shit crazy. I swear to God.
I know you Boyz are very charitable and I have always been impresssed with that.
And now you’ve PRAYED! :)
March 17, 2010 at 11:32 pm
God Bless you, j.b. You are a wonderful example of the miracles that can be achieved every day, with ordinary citizens.
People like YOU give me HOPE!
March 18, 2010 at 12:38 am
Yes God Bless you j.b. and my Hill Boyz. Wow j.b. 300 more cookies–good it wasn’t me who got the cookie bug or else I would just sit around and cry and eat them all.
Also I read comments on a lot of other conservative sites and NONE of them are as thoughtful and “homey” as the commenters on the Hill Buzz site. I heart you all.
Also I tweeted Sarah Palin and Michelle Malkin this posting of the Hill Boyz.
March 17, 2010 at 8:52 pm
Very insightful and inspirational. Thank you and God bless you for all you have done for leading the fight for our country. A little help from above can’t hurt. I’m in. I’m also sending a prayer and a good thought your way.
March 17, 2010 at 8:54 pm
I pray every night and on waking for our Nation.
Guys, thanks for your prayers, they are far reaching and WILL make a difference.
This is so cliche’. God has a plan. His plan was to unite you with folks outside of your own circle, and for us to unite with all of you. We love you deeply. More than that, we are in line with all of you. I love reading about your lives. The day to day’s and the not so great days. We are one people.
Your bottom line faith in God comes from your upbringing. Remember, once you give yourself to God, you cannot take it back. And he’ll never leave you. You are His beautiful, wonderful and perfect creation; you are the Sons of God. I’m so glad that you are with all the rest of us.
March 17, 2010 at 10:05 pm
Well said, KeyWest! Boyz, you have worked your way into more hearts than you can possibly know. I have always prayed for our Country. God brought this nation into being, and some in this nation turned their back on Him. I am a firm believer in Seperation of church and state. Freedom of Religion does not mean freedom FROM Religion. It simply means that you have a right to worship as you see fit, which includes not worshiping at all. I have seen many that I know returning to God in prayer for our Nation. Boyz, God is always there for you, and He loves you. You are much loved by those of us who come here to laugh, to cry, to take action when needed. We are The Resistance, you said it yourselves, and indeed we are. I am praying for you all, and for our Nation. God Bless America!!!
March 17, 2010 at 8:58 pm
Been praying harder longer for weeks to save the country from going under. I’ve lit candles, prayed rosaries, and begged saints galore to stop this madness of a health care bill. If we keep bugging God he will have to answer our prayers. He promised “anything you ask in my name, I will give you”. Believe have faith. Does anyone know if there is a website to stop the health care prayer? Maybe we should start one. Let’s keep up the prayers. Good for you Boyz! God is changing the world constantly, one person at a time…patience we will conquer.
March 17, 2010 at 8:59 pm
Here are two “musical prayers” by a great American composer, Samuel Barber:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xWFfNZvpmk
“Sure on this Shining Night” and
“The Crucifixion”
Both were composed as art-music rather than worship music, but I think of them as worship music anyhow.
Like you Boyz, Samuel Barber was not an overtly religious adult, but he was never wholly free of his religious roots. Also (if it matters) most music historians believe that he was gay. Anyhow, Barber wrote some of the most melodic and expressive modern classical music out there.
I particularly like the words to “Sure on this Shining Night”:
Sure on this shining night, of star-made shadows round,
Kindness must watch for me, this side the ground.
The late year lies down the North.
All is healed. All is health.
High Summer holds the earth,
Hearts all whole.
Sure on this shining night, I weep for wonder,
Wandering far alone,
Of shadows on the stars.
This is my favorite song for Christmas Eve and Easter Vigil. This is the song I will be singing when and if ObamaCare finally breathes its last. (All is health…)
As for “The Crucifixion”, it is a lament, a Good Friday song. I wish the YouTube vid reversed the order of these songs so the hopeful song was the one at the end. Still, very beautiful… and a beautiful singer, too, Cheryl Studer.

Praying with you. Good to know that we’re not alone in our sadness for the future of our country. Thanks guys.
March 17, 2010 at 9:04 pm
by coincidence I made visits to two very stunningly beautiful churches near boystown yesterday for candles and rosaries – and can testify to the efficacy of prayer and faith. hopefully we can all continue to have real belief in our deity.

Never underestimate the power of Seasoned Citizens and old men powered by Viagra.
Dan Rosten .. who?
March 17, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Did you hear him? “I don’t think they understand what the government is trying to do for them.” Why is it when we know fully well what is good for us, they drag out that canard every time!! We are adults; we know what is good for us; this behemoth bastardization of a piece of er ah legislation is not good for us. Period.
And we all know where Rostenkowski ended up. Let’s hope Reid and Pelosi end up in the same ash bin of history.
March 17, 2010 at 11:28 pm
Grr, I can’t see it. I don’t know if I did something and accidently blocked the vids or if WordPress did it. Either way, I have no idea what that video is about but the comments are fascinating.

God Bless America. Lord raise up the same patriot spirit that was with our country at her birth. Strengthen your people. Hear our prayers.
Psalm 7: 14-17
He who is pregnant with evil and conceives trouble gives birth to disillusionment.
He who digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made.
The trouble he causes recoils on himself; his violence comes down on his own head.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
March 17, 2010 at 9:08 pm
beautiful post. i cross-posted on my blog, and prayed as well. thank you so much.
March 17, 2010 at 9:08 pm
I’m not christian, but for the first time, I am praying for the country that has given me more opportunity than I would ever have than any other country on this planet.
I am frightened for my country, this is the first time I feel this frightened, lunatics are running this country, unbound, and unrestricted.
God Bless America.
March 17, 2010 at 9:08 pm
God Bless America…. she really needs it right now, God:
March 17, 2010 at 10:19 pm
I knew I stopped in for a reason tonight. I cannot do music, but I can ask us all to donate a sliver or to so our boyz can visit Sarah Palin..
Thank you so much for posting,

March 17, 2010 at 9:09 pm
I wiped away my tears and sent this blog entry to everyone in my address book.
Praying hard with you.
March 17, 2010 at 9:11 pm
Boyz,of course, we will pray. Many of us are on our knees asking God to help. We ARE the shining city on the hill. We free, feed, heal, clothe, teach and love other peoples more than any other country on this planet. God is on the side of freedom and we will win the war for humankind; but we have many battles to fight. We will pray, stay strong, focused and come out of this all the better. (p.s. I also pray for God to smite the enemy. lol)
March 18, 2010 at 8:40 am
Well said, TXMom.
March 17, 2010 at 9:13 pm
Boyz,
We are all praying — in between the calling and faxing, of course !!
I’m so glad you boyz kept the site going after Hillary’s setback …..it’s important that people realize they are not alone and they are united in purpose.
We’ve come so far, we can’t give up now.
March 17, 2010 at 9:14 pm
Bravo Boyz. God Bless us ALL.
March 18, 2010 at 2:00 am
You are great inspiration to me. I am so proud of you–this may be a way to reach across the barriers and hold hands with those in denial. God save our country!
March 17, 2010 at 9:15 pm
Thank you, Boyz…..anybody ever asks, we’ll be proud to tell them we stood on the barricades with you. You are making a huge difference….and have made a bunch of a friends in the process.
Thank you for taking the time to light the candles…..
Psalm 46 includes this great verse, “The Lord of Hosts IS with us; the God of Jacob IS our refuge.” That is my confidence.

Bless you, guys! Your journey is not so different from mine. I believe that God reaches out to individuals, whether they are part of an “organized religion” or not. Look at the life of Paul/Saul.
I rejected the Catholic Church’s teachings, but never turned away from God. I see you as being at the same place. I know that you can reach HIM and HE can reach you, wherever you are. Your post tonight shows that you have never rejected Him, so you are his children, regardless of you participation in organized religion. God Bless You!
March 17, 2010 at 9:22 pm
Thank you…. and I shall do the same.
March 17, 2010 at 9:24 pm
I have been lighting candles in church for weeks, and I pray daily for our nation as well. And I do believe that God hears our prayers. Boyz, don’t lose heart. All of this is being done for a reason. God does indeed have a plan, and this evil will be defeated.
March 17, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Hill Buzz you’ve just reminded me why I love this place so much.
This is Lent, we are all working on projects that will bring us a glorious Easter Sunday. Keep praying, it sooths the soul and we need God’s help right now.
March 17, 2010 at 9:29 pm
Good on you, boyz.
I am not Catholic, but the very first prayer I ever remember praying as a child I prayed in a Catholic church (though I didn’t light candles or anything. It was during the Eucharist and I wasn’t eligible to partake so I stayed in the pew. The priest said anyone who wasn’t going to partake of the Eucharist could just bring their requests to God from where we were seated, so I did.) It was a very specific prayer and the Lord answered my prayer precisely and specifically that very day.
There are many people praying for our nation these days.
Now I will add to my own prayers that He will take notice of YOUR prayers and answer them.
March 17, 2010 at 9:32 pm
You guys rock. You really do.
Thank you for praying for our beloved republic.
I’ve said a few prayers, too.
And I just want to add: You guys are far more spiritual and religious than many church-goers I know.
You walk the walk.
March 17, 2010 at 9:43 pm
I agree with you Michelle. Definitely something there that is missing amongst some of the church goers that I know too.
March 17, 2010 at 9:36 pm
Praying for our beloved nation also. Asking the Lord for a miracle.
God is our refuge. Stay strong.
March 17, 2010 at 9:37 pm
I became a Catholic after six months of becoming a co-founder of a local Tea Party group. It has helped ground me, tremendously:
I describe some of this here, in a post I prepared based on a wonderful homily:
http://templeofmut.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/tea-parties-tempests-and-democratic-tea-baggers/
The Catholic parish that I attend is fully against this monstrosity, and many know my role in pushing back on its passage. I have gotten many comments of support.
I find myself praying to the Blessed Virgin and lighting candles on every major election day (i.e., this past November and the MA Senate race). I know I will continue to do so.
I think God speaks to us in may ways, and I am thankful that your candles are with mine.
God bless and keep Team HillBuzz.

If God be for us, who can be against us?
March 17, 2010 at 9:45 pm
Air For Soprano If God Be For Us lyrics
If God be for us, who can be against us? Who shall lay anything to thecharge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth, who is he thatcondemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, whois at the right hand of God, who makes inte rcession for us. (Romans8:31,33-34)
March 18, 2010 at 12:40 am
Hmmm… I think I’ll have to add this one to my repertoire. Thanks, sage.
March 18, 2010 at 8:39 am
Beautiful scriptural prayer. Nothing more peaceful than good opera.
March 17, 2010 at 9:40 pm
Boyz,
in my heart I have always seen your basic goodness. This is the part of you that was brought up Catholic. The light has been shining in most of your posts – that deep within you, there is a certain direction and that you continue to follow that direction. I call it your innate goodness.
Prayer sincerely meant gets answered. I have been praying for several days for the people of the USA – that something will happen to turn all of this around. Perhaps my own prayers have not been pure enough.
When you pray to those loved ones in heaven please remember to ask them to intercede on behalf of all Americans before God, so that there will be an end to the insanity.
In my heart I know that Dr. Utopia is evil – rotten on the inside. He was brought up with Communism. He has known nothing else but the theory of Communism.
In truth I wonder if there is not something more cataclysmic that is about to happen. I still remember how on the night (in Australia) that the planes flew into the WTC, I had that feeling that these people would “declare war” on the USA. I just do not know… but I get this uneasy feeling about Iran….
We all need to pray for the USA but for the world in general. It is like we have been losing a very big battle.
Yet if and when we turn to God….
When the Israelites were made into the slaves by the Egyptians God did hear their please. I do not think that they were slaves for 400 years, it would have been less than that… but they were in Egypt for 400 years…. and God used Moses to lead them out of Egypt and to the promised land.
March 17, 2010 at 9:42 pm
Hillbuzz guys-never forget the Catholic church is open to all people, all the time. We are all sinners, just trying to be good and obey Gods Laws, sometimes were are more/less successful than other times. When things settle down-you are right prayer does work, sending St. Michael the Archangel your way-read the book about Fr. Mychal it will give you much peace and insights.
http://www.ourladyswarriors.org/prayer/michael.htm
Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
Father Mychal Judge: An Authentic American Hero ~ Michael Ford
March 17, 2010 at 10:21 pm
Thanks for the reminder of the St. Michael prayer. Very appropriate for the cause!
March 18, 2010 at 6:29 am
Ditto to that! St. Michael is one of my especial patrons, and great for defense! I pray for his assistance for this nation everyday. . .
March 18, 2010 at 6:16 am
I just read that book!
Hillbuzz… if you havent read it.. you will enjoy it.
Agree… The Catholic church is open to all !
St Jude, pray for us.
March 18, 2010 at 9:51 am
Kristi-the hillbuzz article was so good and I was so upset, I sent an e-mail to the Holy Father in Rome to do a prayer request in every Catholic Church in the world to have all Catholics pray for our country due to these un-Constitutional power grabs by the Obama administration. If people of other faiths could request prayers at their churches-we will just rock heaven with our prayers. “In God we Trust”, not the lying, cheating, dirty double dealing Obama administration.
March 17, 2010 at 9:43 pm
You are not Hillbuzz Boyz anymore, guys. You are Hillbuzz Men.
March 18, 2010 at 11:15 am
Amen to that!
March 17, 2010 at 9:46 pm
This is a beautiful piece you wrote.
March 17, 2010 at 9:47 pm
Way to go guys! I’m humbled by your act. I’ve prayed for many of us, but tonight was the first time I purposely prayed for this nation. I was driving my son home from school tonight and we had listened to Sean Hannity. I felt such revulsion over the dictatorial tactic being used that it was all I can do is to pray. I know that God wants us to access Him when we are humbled and that we have to surrendered the thought that we have any control over the situation. The fact is, we don’t, and when we finally let go, He will act. Keep up the great work! I’m standing with you and all of the Hillbuzz community! May the Lord bless this nation and let us not surrendered to the works of the devil.
March 18, 2010 at 12:55 pm
This echos my feelings exactly.
March 17, 2010 at 9:47 pm
Thank you, Boyz. Very inspiring!
Here’s an online prayer chapel, that’s not as good as the ‘real thing’, but nice, nevertheless.

T/Y for this site. I lit a csndle and said a prayer for the USA.
March 17, 2010 at 10:49 pm
I can spell candle, I just d/n know how to type or proofread.
March 17, 2010 at 9:48 pm
I pray for our country and I pray for the Hill Buzz Boyz and the HB community as well.
Once, shortly after 9/11, George Bush spoke and said that he “feels” the prayers this country says for him and for the country. I believe he felt it every day and I hope that you Boyz feel our prayers and support every day.
March 17, 2010 at 9:50 pm
Boyz, I have often lit virtual candles for various prayer requests. Thought this might be a good community place to go when our thoughts turn dark and we think we are alone. We are not.
http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=USA
Simply go to this page, choose a candle, leave a short message, and light the candle. Your candle will burn for 48 hours.
I have titled the Group USA, so you can search for it if you can’t find the correct group.
(Posted top and bottom so everyone will see.)
March 17, 2010 at 9:50 pm
You see. we can all be brought together by Gods love and the love of our country. Which, is unique in it’s founding (and)ideology.
This fight shall not stop as lomg as I am alive. It cannot.
I was delivered ny God as a free person and my heritage commands me to turn a FREE NATION to the next generation.
I will paray and I will fight this to the end of my days.
I love you people.
March 17, 2010 at 10:15 pm
Here here! We are in this TOGETHER!
March 17, 2010 at 11:03 pm
It is truly a beautiful thing to see so many people from different walks of life, deeply care for our beloved country. Such goodness only goes to serve this sweet nation. We shall deliver that which we emanate and we must find peace that in our prayers and goodwill towards one another that our family in God will forever grace us and this great nation.
Pray also for the hearts and minds of those who feel conflicted between their conscience and their ego. Pray for these conflicted Democrats that they will find contentment and real purpose by standing purely on principle and not for the emotions of mere mortals.

Lovely!!
I am not sure if God is still teaching us lessons, but I want her to know, I got it!!!!!
March 18, 2010 at 12:06 am
Thanks for this post. Dolores Keane is one of my favorite Irish singers. My husband and I have a Celtic band. We’ve had a very busy but wonderful couple of weeks playing Irish music in asst. living and retirement centers. One of the songs we perform is “Galway Bay”, the version first recorded by Dolores Keane many, many years ago. We both fell in love with it because it was so simple and spoke directly to the heart.
March 18, 2010 at 5:06 am
Listening to this song reminded me of a priest who has been a powerful influence in my life. He was from England but his parents were from Ireland. He introduced me to Celtic music.
Anyway, Fr. John’s grandparents were Irish patriots.
If you know your Irish history then you should know what this means… they fought against the English in the Easter rebellion. They fought for Ireland to free her from the dominance of the English.
A lot of the Celtic songs reflect the pain of the period of English dominance in Ireland. In fact one of my great-great grandmothers got caught stealing clothing in Dublin and was sent to Australia. On my husband’s side there is a cattle thief – probably his own cattle taken by the English if the truth is known.
The Irish went through a lot of privations at the hands of the English occupiers. This is what their songs reflect.
What a great idea to adopt those songs for the resistance against Dr. Utopia.
March 18, 2010 at 10:16 am
So well spoken Aussie. My husband’s ancestry is part Irish and his Irish ancestors first arrived on our shores in the mid-19th century because of the potato famine in Ireland.
You are so correct about the Irish people’s long, long struggle against English dominance. My ancestry is actually German/Catholic and Swiss/Catholic and I guess being raised and educated in the Catholic Church I was immersed in the atmosphere of this difficult history. Celtic music, like no other music for me, speaks to my soul and although it expresses great pain, it also expresses hope. The English occupiers tried to suppress the Irish language, their culture, their music and dance but all they did was make these things grow stronger.
You are so right too about these being songs of resistance. At the heart of even the most mournful Celtic air is the spirit of courage and great strength which we need to embrace now in these critical times of crisis in our government.
March 17, 2010 at 9:56 pm
I have been praying since well before the election. In fact, since I began researching the man who wanted to be president, and I have not quit praying since.
In that time I have prayed repeatedly for the cockroaches to be shone, and God repeatedly told me all was not as it seemed. He seemed to be telling me to wait so that their full evil would be shown for all to see. I believe that is now happening.
I have also prayed repeatedly as Abraham did, “Lord, if there are only 10 faithful people, You in Your mercy would not destroy this nation, would You?”
And the Lord said to Abraham that if there were 10 faithful ones, He would stay His hand.
Just some thoughts from one who has been praying unceasingly for well more than a year now.
Oh, and my mom always tells the story about how when Russia was a BIG threat, a magazine she read put out a call for prayer at a certain time over the course of a month. Just after that is when Reagan uttered the famous words, “Mr. Gorbechev, tear down this wall.” And Russia fell soon afterward.
Prayer works. Not because we deserve it but because God is so very gracious, loving, kind, and merciful.

Quite beautiful, indeed.
March 18, 2010 at 8:47 am
Thank you what a awesome way to start the day. When you feel your body weakening and your heart falling turn to God to hold you up through the ugly sausage making process we call politics. God bless you all fellow Hillbuzz peeps and Boyz especially for all you are doing.

Reagan’s words are so timely. I’m ashamed to think I did not support him when he was in office. This man loved his country.
March 17, 2010 at 10:46 pm
Every time I watch that video, I get goose bumps when Reagan says, “If your parents aren’t teaching you what it means to be an American, NAIL EM’ ON IT!”
March 17, 2010 at 10:47 pm
Yeah, I love that, too. And his added bit that it would be a very American thing to do!
March 17, 2010 at 11:24 pm
Boy howdy!
March 17, 2010 at 11:32 pm
Oh my, that made me cry. This whole post makes me weep. I thought I was losing my mind, thinking I was the only one that felt our country slipping away. God Bless our Boyz, and all of you.
March 17, 2010 at 10:02 pm
That wasn’t your usual voice.
That was the voice of AMERICA.
We will prevail.
Everyone say it, “We WILL PREVAIL!”
March 17, 2010 at 11:19 pm
Lift us up, LORD,
WE WILL PREVAIL!
March 17, 2010 at 10:02 pm
When such a diverse group of us come together in prayer – that has to be some powerful Holy Spirit action going on! I have never seen anything like this before.
It is profound.
March 17, 2010 at 10:05 pm
Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament was out-of-His-mind, jumping up and down, FRANTICALLY happy to be physically in the same room as all of you men. Trust me.
March 17, 2010 at 10:06 pm
I am a recent regular visitor to your site — steered here by a commenter on American Thinker. I have been very impressed with your sincerity and devotion to principle. — and we are nearly neighbors (I live in Streeterville neighborhood). Tonight your post has overwhelmed me…I LOVE you guys. There are many many sincere, open minded and open-hearted, God and country loving conservatives and independents in Chicago (though many of us keep a low profile) and I am so happy to have found you. I will light a candle at the Catholic church I regularly attend for you and for all of the everyday warriors fighting for the soul of our country. Thank you.
March 17, 2010 at 10:06 pm
I love you guys! I am a conservative, evangelical Christian, and a libertarian. More than once, in the last couple of months since I discovered your sight, you have brought me to tears. When I start to wonder where the Democrats with integrity and decency are, I remember you guys and am filled with hope. We may not agree on everything, but we are united by our love for this great country and our desire to see it overcome these present times that try men’s souls. I am honored to join you in asking almight God to bless and preserve America.
March 17, 2010 at 10:15 pm
these lunatics running ard are not democrats, I would say they are not even Americans at this point.
There are very few decent democrats left, very very very very very few.
Americans don’t do this. They don’t trash the US constitution.
Wrong is wrong, doesn’t matter what political party does it. Its even worse when a person who is supposed to be the staunchest preserver of the US constitution does this.
The Marxist messaih “studied” the US consitution not to understand the limitations, but how to subvert the US Constitution.
March 18, 2010 at 12:24 am
“The Marxist messaih “studied” the US consitution not to understand the limitations, but how to subvert the US Constitution.”
Nailed it.

DITTO TXMom and ssmith on subverting the Constitution. I love this site because we all have the same love for our country. Thank you Hillbuzz for this beautiful thread.
March 17, 2010 at 10:07 pm
Thank you Boyz, I have tears in my eyes after reading what you did today. So glad I found your site, it means so much to come to each day. Okay, going now to have a really big cry. And say many many prayers.
March 17, 2010 at 10:12 pm
Thank you guys so much for your prayers and your reminder to us all that we must always turn to God in trouble. We are all one in the emotions that you revealed. We are frightened; we are angry; we are frustrated; we are determined; we are humbled before God. One of my mother’s favorite Gospels was Matthew 7, of which she quoted in her advice when we wanted somthing that seemed impossible:
7 “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
Rosarys up.
Don’t forget St. Jude, who is the patron saint of the impossible. And St. Anthony, who helps to find what we have lost. And St. Michael, to help us fight the eternal foe.
Please tell Panda he is so right. It never hurts to stop by for a visit in God’s house. It can only help.
March 18, 2010 at 12:16 am
“Rosaries up!” I love it!
Remember that behind every Savior is a Mother whom all nations will called blessed.
March 17, 2010 at 10:12 pm
WE MUST FIGHT.
All of us.
Together.
Hillbuzz has inspired us all, and we WILL PREVAIL in the fight for this great Republic.
Obama and his thugs will NOT win this fight.
EVAHHH!

Over?
It’s not over until WE say it’s over!!!

MAKE IT LOCAL. Call D state reps and state senators. Hold them accountable for what Pelosi is doing. People loving this idea! Make it work! Go to your State Capitol.
This was posted on Twitter by a couple of the House repubs. I thought it was a good idea.

Does sound like a good idea!

I am not a member of a church and have carried a certain amount of cynicism about organized religion. But I’ve always believed in the transcendent spirit as the inspiration for all that makes life worth living.
Pray I will Boyz. And I will be prepared to fight, I will not resign myself to living in their world.
March 17, 2010 at 10:23 pm
You’ve made a grown man and father of two cry tonight.
March 17, 2010 at 10:24 pm
Thanks, HillBuzz.
Like many here, I, too, feel that something beyond what we can see or envision is manifesting beneath the surface. I am expecting some kind of miracle.
I also find it interesting that there are 12 holdouts over the abortion financing issue, of all things. Prayers and strength to them, including IL Congressman Daniel Lipinski.
March 17, 2010 at 10:25 pm
You boys, really touched my heart tonight! You should also know that every night when I say my prayers, I ask God to deliever our country from this evil that has taken hold in Washington, to defeat Obama, Pelosi and Reid and let their days in power be short. I have been praying this for over a year now and will continue to do so until this mess is over.
God Bless boys!
March 17, 2010 at 10:29 pm
Amen.
March 17, 2010 at 10:32 pm
“I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”
Mark 11:23-25

Praying with you in confidence that all our prayers together will be heard.
March 17, 2010 at 10:48 pm
“Praying with you in confidence that all our prayers together will be heard.” Amen.
Matthew 18-19,20 “Again, I tell you that if any two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For two or three come together in my name, there I am with them.”
March 18, 2010 at 12:45 am
I love that Gospel. And Lord knows that there are certainly so many more than two of us praying together, here and all over the country.
Hillbuzz, you have brought together hundreds of people right here today with your kindness in sharing your emotions and prayers with us. It’s what my Jewish friends call a Mitzva…a good deed.
March 17, 2010 at 10:37 pm
Great post and a timely request. Makes me sick thinking what has happened and what they think they can getaway with before we kcik them out.
The only thing I don’t agree with is this:
“…That’s what America should do to the despicable narcissist in the White House…”
It should read “…the two despicable narcissists…”
March 17, 2010 at 10:40 pm
To Panda and the rest of you.
All roads lead to Rome:)
“There is nothing wrong with America that the faith,
love of freedom, intelligence, and energy of her citizens cannot cure….”
Dwight David Eisenhower.
March 17, 2010 at 10:40 pm
I am so glad you took some time to refresh your spirit. I was at church a few weeks ago and a line was shared I really liked. “We are not humans having a spiritual experience, but spirit children having a human experience.” For we are all children of a loving Father in Heaven.
When I say my prayers I always plea the same line and I ask the leaders of this great nation will feel compelled to follow the Constitution as was founded by our fathers. I think it couldn’t hurt to have the same plea. May God be with you this night and no matter what happens this nation will not be lost.
Look to Washington at the Potomac crossing the river during the Revelotionary War. It was very bleak but they did not quit and neither will we.
Will we need to prove our Independence again? Sure, for faith without works is dead.
God Bless
AMERICA!
March 17, 2010 at 10:47 pm
God Bless you guys and America. Your post moved me to tears.
We are in trouble but we have all of our wonderful parents and grandparents up in Heaven along with the good Lord himself on our side.
We will win – we have to!
March 17, 2010 at 10:47 pm
What a lovely post. I cannot tell you how much I miss the ritual of lighting the candles at church.
I do pray for this Country, and for our leaders. And I will pray for y’all too, for continued strength and determination.
God Bless America.

You’re very welcome. I believe individually our prayers have real power, but collectively the power multiplies by many times over.
“Where two or three are gathered in My Name, there am I in their midst.”

**George Washington’s Remarkable Vision**
The following was originally published by Wesley Bradshaw in the National Review, Vol. 4, No. 12, December 1880
“‘And again I heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn.” At this, the dark, shadowy angel placed a trumpet to his mouth and blew three distinct blasts; and taking water from the ocean, he sprinkled it upon Europe, Asia, and Africa. Then my eyes beheld a fearful scene. From each of these countries arose thick, black clouds that were soon joined into one. And throughout this mass, there gleamed a dark red light by which I saw hordes of armed men, who, moving with the cloud, marched by land and sailed by sea to America, which country was enveloped in the volume of cloud. And I dimly saw these vast armies devastate the whole country, and burn the villages, towns and cities that I beheld springing up.
“‘As my ears listened to the thundering of the cannon, clashing of swords, and the shouts and cries of millions in mortal combat., I again heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn.” When the voice had ceased, the dark shadowy angel placed his trumpet once more to his mouth, and blew a long and fearful blast.
“‘Instantly a light as of a thousand suns shone down from above me, and pierced and broke into fragments the dark cloud which enveloped America. At the same moment the angel upon whose head still shone the word “Union,” and who bore our national flag in one hand and a sword in the other, descended from the heavens attended by legions of white spirits. These immediately joined the inhabitants of America, who I perceived were well-nigh overcome, but who immediately taking courage again closed up their broken ranks and renewed the battle. Again, amid the fearful noise of the conflict, I heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn.”
“‘As the voice ceased, the shadowy angel for the last time dipped water from the ocean and sprinkled it upon America. Instantly the dark cloud rolled back, together with the armies it had brought, leaving the inhabitants of the land victorious.

Thanks for posting this link. I don’t know if I misses anything, after all, it’s very late, but what is/was the third peril? It’s written as if the whole world turned against the USA, not just a group of countries. I am heartened that we are eventually saved by angels sent from above.

Thanks for this wonderful post. You guys are ever so insightful and wise. I am very grateful to have found this site. Thanks for all that you do for our country.
March 17, 2010 at 11:01 pm
Boyz, I applaud you. You are the best and the world could sure use a lot more of you. God bless each of you and we will come out of this better than ever. It will not be easy, but we have been asleep for too long and now the best of us have awaken…love you guys

I guess there is a part of you all who really do believe in a God, otherwise you wouldn’t be venturing to a church regardless of your reasoning. As far as the angels that you mentioned, they are here always. Don’t be surprised if they were behind your motivation to visit the little Catholic church today. The angels are working for good down here, and all they need is for one to ask for their help. Asking is NOT praying, so I hope that this is understood by those who may question this idea. I just got done saying the Rosary, and I always include a request for the protection of Israel, and the US against their respective enemies, and for the protection of all who are being oppressed throughout the world. By the way, nice to read this blogpost tonight.
March 17, 2010 at 11:09 pm
I’m in the employee dining room at work wiping tears away with my napkin. Praying for our nation with you!
March 17, 2010 at 11:11 pm
Hallelujah! And pass the ammunition!
March 17, 2010 at 11:15 pm
Correction:
That should read Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!
March 17, 2010 at 11:30 pm
You bitter clinger you… God and guns… tsk. tsk. tsk.
Then again, woe to those who don’t have either!

2 Chronicles 7:14 (New International Version)
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
The Holy Spirit must be moving through the land because that verse has been in my head all night. It’s the same one that Michele Bachman said the day she, Brownback, DeMint and Coburn held a prayer vigil. Of course, Rachel Maddow had to mock them. *Sigh* The Left are very … sad.
March 17, 2010 at 11:30 pm
It’s not nice to mock God. She’ll realize this some day.
March 18, 2010 at 5:25 am
Oh, my. That’s a true thing you said there….these yahoos are not familiar with Psalm 2 where those who scorn God are described and then it says, (2:4) “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh. The Lord shall hold them in derision.”
I can think of a lot of places I really don’t want to be–being on the receiving of “being laughed AT” by God is at the head of the list. They truly don’t have a clue.
They are utterly deceived and willingly so, because it suits their purposes at the moment.
March 18, 2010 at 7:44 am
“*Sigh* The Left are very … sad.”
Empty shells.
March 17, 2010 at 11:21 pm
We’ll all be fine. We have God and each other. But I have been praying and will continue to pray for this wonderful place that God has chosen for us. God bless all of us, and God bless America always.
March 17, 2010 at 11:22 pm
I don’t know if there’s a god, but I would find it incredibly ironic that she sent a bunch of gay guys from one of America’s most corrupt cities to save her most treasured international inspiration from doom.
March 17, 2010 at 11:25 pm
I can tell by the first part of your post that you don’t read the Bible much. Actually, I can tell by the whole post. A bunch of off-the-beaten-track people from a very corrupt place sent to save a most treasured people from certain destruction?
Sounds just like something God would do!
God bless!
March 17, 2010 at 11:34 pm
Well, women can be very unpredictable, so yeah, I can see your explanation of the irony. I read enough of the Old Testament to get through Hebrew school and have my familiarity with the New is through the world at large (media, pop culture, etc.) There are way too many religious tracts for me to read so I stick with the most amazing document ever created, by anyone or Anything — The Constitution of the United States of America.
March 18, 2010 at 5:35 am
Forget the tracts. Find a copy of the Bible. The NIV is a good version. An even better one is the Jerusalem Bible.
March 18, 2010 at 8:51 am
And if you’re only passingly interested, get a copy of The Message Bible–the Bible in today’s language. It’s not “hard” to read like some of the others. Then when you go to the others, they make sense!
One thing I DO know is that God is NOT confused about you. He loves you and is just waiting for you to take a breath and do a little bit of searching. He’s right there and always has been… and always will be.
March 18, 2010 at 10:16 am
MY VERY FAVORITE IS THE AMPLIFIED BUT LOVE THE COMPLETE JEWISH BIBLE– IF READS BEAUTIFULLY AND REALLY LEAVES NOTHING TO MISUNDERSTAND.. TRY IT U WILL LIKE IT…
March 18, 2010 at 12:25 am
Why not? Think of the example of St. Paul — and what he was before.
I
March 18, 2010 at 12:35 am
It does sound just like something God would do.
SFGoth, if you ever do have the time, whole sections of the bible are worth reading for their literary value alone, as well as for the insight they provide into the Founding Fathers’ writings — the Founders were incredibly biblically-literate, even the ones who weren’t traditionally religious.
The Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah and Job in the Old Testament, and the Gospel of John and I Corinthians Chapter 13 (the great sermon on love — and it is great) are good places for the curious to begin. The way I began reading the bible was by browsing till I found a place that seemed interesting, dipping in for a few minutes, and calling it quits when my attention started wandering. That way, I never bored myself.
Some of my favorite psalms: 42(my all-time favorite), 50&51, 46 (“Be still, and know that I am God”),19, 90, and 136.
March 18, 2010 at 6:32 am
Yep… Its EXACTLY what God would do.
March 18, 2010 at 1:14 am
God chose a young boy, David, to fight the giant, Goliath. He was scared – but he did it. And he saved the people.
God has often chosen the weak or the underdog to lead His people or to defeat the enemies of His people.
March 18, 2010 at 5:36 am
God chose Moses to lead his people out of Egypt. Moses was afraid of the task being given to him… but he had faith and did it.

God Chose Jonah (of all people)
To go to Ninevah (of all places)
‘Nuff said.
(Whale notwithstanding)
March 17, 2010 at 11:23 pm
Six months ago I started going to church after a thirty year hiatus. I think a lot of people are doing this as well. The state of current events has so unnerved me that I have found a great solace in the church.
March 17, 2010 at 11:25 pm
“I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me. Phillippians 4:13″
Boyz-The words above are the truth.
Not only did our parents and grandparents and so many others fight that good fight, as this blog can attest, there are so many now that are still willing to fight that fight. We are truly blessed to have each other and to live in a land that God chose for us. Thank you for the beautiful thoughts and for sharing them with us.
God Bless America
March 18, 2010 at 3:26 am
That is one of my favorite verses! One thing I used to like to do was repeat that verse putting the emphasis on a different word each time, like this:
I can do all things…
I CAN do all things…
I can DO all things…
I can do ALL things…
It’s amazing how affirming and positive it makes you feel. I haven’t done that for a while. I guess now’s the time.
March 17, 2010 at 11:30 pm
Prayer thread–bump
March 17, 2010 at 11:32 pm
Boyz, two things:
1) Something one of my pastors said in a sermon several years ago that I have NEVER forgotten: “The world is not God’s to lose”
2) My favorite Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, sayeth the Lord; Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, Plans to give you a hope and a future.
Bless you all – and know that you can put it all in His hands, and you will instantly feel at peace. He is with all of us, and He will not let us fail.
Take tomorrow off – the CBO score isn’t going to come out for another day, and the Dems are going to have to regroup after BamBam’s disastrous FOX appearance.
The Dem’s coalition is falling apart, as they are starting to realize that their reconciliation bill will never make it through the Senate.
You need to take a break; if you don’t, you will go crazy. The rest of us will fill in for you for the day while you Boyz recharge your batteries.
It’s going to be OK – heck, if Chris Matthews is telling the Dems not to do things this way, you KNOW that things are going to fall apart!
Take care, and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers this evening. Rest in His loving arms – He will keep you safe tonight and every night….
March 17, 2010 at 11:59 pm
And I must say, it is truly a “God” thing that Panda was the one who got you guys to go into that church in the first place. Panda has always struck me as almost childlike – in a good way, as he has an innocent and sweet outlook on life in general.
It was with “the faith of a child” – absolute purity – that he directed you in there and knew that it couldn’t hurt to pray.
That’s how God shows all of us the way – bless you, Panda, for showing the rest of us, as well -
March 18, 2010 at 6:45 am
^___^. I was thinking the same thing.
March 17, 2010 at 11:35 pm
I have a conflicted relationship with God, always have. But one thing that I can always do is pray for a cause and hope that it lands somewhere posititve.
You might also consider that you weren’t just lighting your own candles, you were doing so on behalf of all of us who also haven’t stepped foot in church in years.
That’s why it took so many candles. ;)
March 18, 2010 at 1:11 am
JKR. You’re in good company — Abraham argued with God, the Psalmist(s) had an up-and-down relationship, and Jonah kept on running away — just for starters.
It’s always been rocky for me, too. Though I logically acknowledge that God, being a loving God, must love me, I don’t feel emotional reassurance that God loves me in the way that other Christians seem to feel. But then I think, heck, it’s rocky for everyone. They may look like they know that God loves them, but I bet a lot of times they don’t feel it, either.
The fact that you have a conflicted relationship with God is probably a good sign. I think that’s the way that most of us who seek God are, whatever we call ourselves.
March 18, 2010 at 5:39 am
David committed adultery… and as for Solomon…. who would want that many wives and concubines!! Oh what a headache with all of those mothers-in-law….
March 18, 2010 at 9:22 am
JKR and Xana (and anyone else who may have a “conflicted” relationship with God):
I have always looked at the relationship between God and man as that of a benevolent father and his children.
Any of us who have children know that they can try our patience many times over. However, we love them NO MATTER WHAT. Sometimes we have to let them go off on their own to explore the world and yes, to make mistakes. We are always there when they need reassurance and guidance. Even though they don’t always talk to us – as they get older, they are busy living their own lives – we are ALWAYS there for them.
Sometimes – usually when they are teenagers – that relationship can be very rocky. They may even tell us that they hate us and never want to see us again. But we are always there, waiting for them and loving them. And when they get into trouble, we are there for them to come back into our loving embrace, and tell them that everything will be all right and we will get through everything together.
And I think of God as that “perfect” parent who is so much better at the job than I am some days. We may stray from Him, but He is always waiting at home, ready to take us in His arms whenever we need His strength. And He will keep us safe from all harm.
We’re going to get through this, and we will come through on the other side – in much the same way as steel that has been hardened by fire and the hammer – a stronger country because of it.
March 18, 2010 at 1:56 pm
God wants you to love Him, and He has given His creation free will to either do so or not to do so. We shouldn’t worry about if God loves us. That is a given! We need to worry about our relationship with Him as it pertains to giving Him our love freely and genuinely without the unwarranted fear of His rejection.
March 18, 2010 at 5:31 am
“a conflicted relationship with God”! What a great phrase. I suspect most of those who enjoy and pursue a relationship with Him would say, “Me, too!”
(from Steve McVey’s blog) In The Chronicles of Narnia , C. S. Lewis wrote in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe about an occasion when Susan and Lucy ask Mr. and Mrs. Beaver to describe Aslan, the Christ-figure in the story. They ask if Aslan is a man. Mr. Beaver replies:
Aslan a man? Certainly not. I tell you he is the King of the woods and the son of the great Emperor-beyond-the Sea. Don’t you know who is the King of Beasts? Aslan is a lion – the Lion, the great Lion.”
“Ooh!” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion.”
“That you will, dearie, and make no mistake,” said Mrs. Beaver, “if there’s anyone who can appear before Aslan without their knees knocking, they’re either braver than most or else just silly.”
“Then he isn’t safe?” said Lucy.
“Safe?” said Mr. Beaver. “Don’t you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about being safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”
March 18, 2010 at 8:58 am
JKR, I’m a writer, a Christian writer. I write stories about God’s love and how it changes everything, but I have to tell you that of the 28 books I’ve written, I’ve yet to have a character like the people you think you know. Oh, yes, they may APPEAR really religious and like they’ve got it all together, but inside, they have doubts and fear and most of the time “a conflicted relationship with God.”
Those who don’t now have in the past. It’s part of the relationship building. You learn God’s love as you experience God’s love… in the little things.
I myself have seen God’s love up close and personal, and yet VERY bad things have happened in my life–including the suicides of two wonderful men who were very close to me (a brother and a brother-in-law).
Just be where you are with God, breathe, and know somewhere inside that He DOES love you, and it’s not about you being good enough or right enough or whatever. It’s ONLY about He loves you because He just does.
Once you get that part, the others become a lot easier… though the doubt and fear are always right there, ready to drag you back. Those are just really good times to delve back into God.
March 18, 2010 at 4:14 pm
JKR,
I can really appreciate your position on being conflicted with God. I spent a lot of time there myself and I would like to share with you how I came to a place of peace about it. I spent a good part of my life being conflicted with God because of something awful that He allowed to happen to me without explanation. I spent literally decades deeply conflicted about this “supposedly loving” God who would allow such a tragedy and then not even explain it. In the end I found I was looking for proof of His love in the wrong place. I found the place to look for proof of His love is just where He said it is:
“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Christ’s cross = God’s love.
Not
Happy circumstances = God’s love
or Good health = God’s love
or Justice in society = God’s love
or God explaining Himself to me when I want Him to = God’s love
But
Christ willingly dying on the cross to bear the penalty for our sins in our place so we can be forgiven through trusting His sacrifice= God’s love.
I still don’t have an explanation for my circumstance (with which I must still live daily and it doesn’t get easier), but I have decided that a God who would take it upon Himself to come and die to satisfy His own justice against me and bring me back into relationship with Him is a truly loving God and He loves me enough that He can be trusted with the things I don’t understand right now.
I don’t know if my issue is similar to your issue, but I believe every issue we have with God, as well as the issue He has with us, is answered by the cross of Christ, if we will only receive it.

We are in deep trouble. No doubt about it. But we have to keep our wits about us. This is the United States of America. We’re spoiled. We love our luxuries and we are so spoiled to live in the luxury we do (even the most down and out person living on the street has it better than most people in other countries). Nobody cuts out our clitoris with a rock when we’re 9 years old and sews up our vagina. Nobody can sexually harrass a woman in the job place without that woman having a legal course to protect herself. Women can vote. They can become a president if they want. Women are equal to men. People with disabilities have an entire structured safety net to help take care of them so they have an equal opportunity to live a good life. An 80-year-old man can go get a job at McDonald’s and the 17-year-old training him will welcome him with open arms and respect. You can walk down any street in the country and ask for help and get it. Each man, woman and child can be as successful as they want to be. We can be religious…or not. We can be gay…or not. We can be married…or not. We have freedoms no other countries allow for their people.
Obama and the greedy progressives can do what they want to try to ruin our country and our freedoms….but the American people will put a stop to it. We can vote them out of office and undo everything they did. It will be hard but we will do it.
The Dems have overlooked one very important thing. Americans do not lie down and give up. Americans fight. Americans don’t up with crap. We don’t take no for an answer.
The Dems have grossly overestimated their domination and power. We will reverse and fix this assault on our country and the people responsible will pay the price.
That’s an American guarantee.
March 18, 2010 at 12:17 am
That made me tear up. Again. I’m not ready to let my country fall.
Pray and be a “Happy Warrior”!
And thanks Boyz!
March 18, 2010 at 9:16 am
Thank you Bev.
March 17, 2010 at 11:40 pm
The nation has shown great restraint up to this point, thank God. If they pass this monster illegally, God help us. They will have lit a fuse and I fear for the unintended consequences.
March 17, 2010 at 11:56 pm
Here is a paraphrase of Proverbs 8. I used to think of it a lot at school, because I was studying a difficult subject, but now it reminds me of what we are doing to educate ourselves, to inform each other, and to dissuade our leaders from the path of foolishness:
Does not Wisdom cry out, and Understanding lift up her voice? She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, beside the way, where the people meet.
She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entrance of the doors:
“To you, O men, I call — my voice is to the sons of men — O you simple ones, understand prudence, and you fools, be of an understanding heart… Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold: for Wisdom is better than rubies, and all of the things one may desire cannot be compared with her…
I, Wisdom, dwell with prudence, and discover knowledge and discretion… I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me… I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice.
The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting to everlasting, from the beginning, before there ever was an earth… Before the mountains, before the hills, I was brought forth: while as yet He had not made the earth of the fields, or the primal dust of the world.
When He prepared the heavens, I was there. When He drew a circle on the face of the deep… when he assigned the sea its limit — when he marked out the foundation of the earth, then I was beside him as his master-craftsman, and I was daily His delight.
…Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it.
Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains blessings from the Lord; but he who sins against me wrongs his own soul: all those who hate me love death.”
What a reminder that God calls us to be wise, not just well-intentioned.
You are doing God’s work, Boyz.
March 18, 2010 at 12:01 am
My husband and I are taking our kids to see Independence Hall in Philadelphia on Friday. I plan to get on my knees at this hallowed ground and pray to our Heavenly Father to send us the courage of our Founders to help us win this battle.
Prayer truly does work, boyz. I know this is true, because you are an answer to my prayers.
God Bless you all!
March 18, 2010 at 1:02 am
So nice to see parents teaching American children about our rich history, and in a religious context. Lovely. Have a wonderful trip.
March 18, 2010 at 1:47 am
Prayer truly does work, boyz. I know this is true, because you are an answer to my prayers.
Well said. That’s exactly how I feel.
I love you boyz.
March 18, 2010 at 5:33 am
Hey, will you get get back to us with a note on what happens? It seems to me that anyone on their knees at Independence Hall this week is going to be joined by others…..
Gives me chills. If I was there, I’d be kneeling right beside you.
March 18, 2010 at 9:49 pm
Thanks for the support Emma. It will be interesting to see if others are there for the same thing. I will let you know what happens.
Also, just wanted to make a suggestion. We will be there at 1pm EST, and I thought maybe you and others might think about saying a silent prayer at that time, asking God to provide us all with the strength and courage we will need.
God Bless you!
March 18, 2010 at 7:11 am
I would be on my knees with you.
March 18, 2010 at 9:45 pm
I will keep you in my heart as we pray, Kristi!
March 18, 2010 at 8:06 am
If you have time, stop by at the Constitution center, it’s close by Independence Hall.
When I lived in the city, my parish was Old St. Joe’s, tucked away between 3rd and 4th streets, and Locust and Walnut. (Just a few blocks away from the historic area). At a service I learned that a rosary group would be praying at Independence Hall, so I joined them. There were about ten of us gathered there, the prayer leader handed us all rosaries woven out of string and blessed at Medjugorje. I kept that rosary for a long time, when I changed residence, sadly it got lost in the shuffle.
Kim, when you are in the historic area, wander over to Old St. Mary’s church at 4th and Spruce. The church’s cemetery contains the remains of the founders of our nation. Also the Episcopal church at 3rd and Pine has a gravesite with historic personages buried there.
Anyone who claims that our nation’s founders did not believe in God will have to explain to me why these great men found it necessary to be buried in consecrated ground.
March 18, 2010 at 9:44 pm
Thanks for the suggestions, PA C. I will put them on my list of places to see!

K.D. Lang sings Leonard Cohens, “Hallelujah”.
Turn it up and enjoy.
March 18, 2010 at 6:57 am
KD Lang singing that song is absolutely amazing. Makes me cry everytime.

After reading your post I was reminded of a picture we have in our home of George Washington at Valley Forge. It was painted by Arnold Friberg. Friberg did the artwork for DeMille’s “The Ten Commandments”
I found this on YouTube about the painting.

My father always told me you could judge the character of a man by the fabric at his knees, they should be worn out from being on bended knees praying for inspiration and expressing gratitude for blessings.
I totally agree with all of you that we need to turn our hearts to God, and we are going to need a miracle to stop this madness in Washington.

Some States are getting ready to sue the federal government over this health care crap.
http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5g0LSHNfmnWDnZ_JylqiFxeT5GKEQD9EGLNDO0
This AP writer is an idiot. He says “Constitutional lawyers say these lawsuits are mostly symbolic because federal laws supercede the state.” HELLOOO!!! have you ever heard of the 10th amendment. Moron.
March 18, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Anyone with an iPhone can get a FREE app that is the text of the Constitution. Those of you with iPhones, I highly reccommend it! We should all read and understand what our Founding Fathers did for us. God Bless Us All!
March 18, 2010 at 1:10 am
As the first caller noted, “Thanks for your prayers and patriotism, boyz”.
I pray everyday, several times a day for our country. I pray for Obama too, that he might be healed because I really think he has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which is notoriously hard to cure. Mostly I pray a variation of the Jesus Prayer of the Orthodox tradition (I’m not Orthodox but I like the prayer) “Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on us.”
I will pray for your safety too. I worry about some of the higher profile people who are part of the resistance to dictator wanna be. May God bless you.
March 18, 2010 at 1:51 am
My mom has NPD. Took me a few trips to different therapists to finally understand that they meant she wasn’t your run-of-the-mill self absorbed type– but had a personality disorder.
Based on personal experience, I think Obama fits the diagnosis to a ‘T’ as well.
March 18, 2010 at 4:12 am
Oh SQT, my late father had it as well. Took a lot of therapy and research to really understand him and NPD. As soon as I saw Utopia speak, I said ‘uh-oh.’ It is that obvious.
March 18, 2010 at 7:18 am
My ex husband too.
It took YEARS of therapy for me to understand it.
I had post traumatic stress disorder over it. My son at 11 years old was diagnosed with major depressive disorder.
There is no fixing it. There is no reasoning with them. They absolutely do not care about others. they are incapable of it.
Obama is like my ex husband and it will get worse.
Yes.. pray for our country! Pray non stop and unceasing.
March 18, 2010 at 10:37 am
@Kristi
I hope your son is okay. And I agree– they don’t change. I cannot have a reasonable disagreement with my mom. She disregards what she doesn’t want to deal, heaps guilt on me for questioning her and lies about the rest.
Sounds like Obama doesn’t it?
March 18, 2010 at 11:16 am
SQT…Thank God he is long out of our lives.
He abandon us the minute I fought back 10 times as hard as he did. Only way to stop them.
I am so thankful he hasnt had anything to do with our son in 6 years. The damage they can do to children is imense.
My psychologist helped me understand the disorder.
Creepy stuff.
Yeah.. Obama is a narcisist. God help us.

SQT, that sure might help explain some of the jerky things your parents have done over the years (I remember them from another thread).
March 18, 2010 at 10:35 am
Yeah. It sucks. I’ve had to cut off contact because they kept trying to weasel their way into living with me. They took $100k from my brother and then looked at me like it was my turn. I don’t want to be one of those people who turns away from family, but I don’t know what else to do. They’re toxic.
March 18, 2010 at 11:28 am
I once tried to decide if my ex was a narcissist or a sociopath, and decided he was a narcissistic sociopath. Think that applies to our president as well.
March 18, 2010 at 9:01 pm
I use the Jesus Prayer every day too. I think it’s become a favorite among Christians in all denominations.
March 18, 2010 at 1:23 am
One more musical prayer for the night:
“Jesus Christ the Apple Tree” by Elizabeth Poston:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm3fZDZxiko
“The Tree of Life my soul has seen…” The Tree of Life, the Liberty Tree!
March 18, 2010 at 1:32 am
Amen! I’ve too have been an occasional Catholic most of my life, but Obama’s election left me with a horrible sense of dread about the future of our country, which prompted me to attend church more often and pray daily.
To paraphrase a great email I received a while back, “I’d rather live my life as though God exists and learn on my deathbed that he doesn’t than live without faith in God, only to learn upon dying that he does exist”.
Thanks for reminding us to pray for our country & our leaders. “The country
that prays together, stays together!”
March 18, 2010 at 1:54 am
God Bless you Boyz for your prayers for this country and for doing it on St Patrick’s Day.
Through your prayers and offerings may he drive the snakes out of our land (mainly Washington DC)soon!!
March 18, 2010 at 1:54 am
Hey Hillbuzz guys, it’s your life long SF resident and Roman Catholic here. When the White House insulted the Dali Lama I started going through my books on Tibetan Buddhist art. The Buddhists believe in what Catholics might call guardian angels only the Tibetan variety look like they could take on the worst of the worst (and still have 5 other hands free to whip up a batch of brownies). Check out on the internet the guardian of all Tibetan Buddhists and especially the guardian of the Dali Lama, Mahakala. I like Mahakala mostly in his blue form but I’m also a soft touch for Asian blue and white china place settings. Mahakala is nothing if not color conscious. If Panda doesn’t know about Mahakala he should take a look at some Mahakala paintings on the net. Mahakala like all the Dharma palas (protectors of the religious law that is Buddhism)is into serious fashion statements. Might as well make this an all religions all cosmic battle and bring in the big guys and gals from all the major world religions.
March 18, 2010 at 4:15 am
oh I agree!
March 18, 2010 at 7:45 am
I think a Nidstang ( a cursing pole ) would help.I shall make one out of paper and a fix it to my window facing south towards the direction of our enemies! I’m a hard polytheist. I am asking my Holy Powers to strengthen us all to keep up this battle.
March 18, 2010 at 2:03 am
Do you feel differently today thn you did yesterday? It can be amazing what difference a day make. I agree–MEN.
March 18, 2010 at 2:53 am
I happened to read your post right after I had come in from the back porch where I had been sitting with my cat Lilly…and really, finally, praying hard for our country.
I remembered the stories in the Bible of how much people had suffered when they’d turned away from or forgotten the things that really matter in life, and I felt guilty for all the times that I had just taken this great country for granted.
The Left – Pregressives – have been at it for so long now and many of us have only recently awakened to how far things have gone. I just hope we aren’t condemned to reaping what has been sown and that enough prayers are being said to turn the ship away from the iceberg.
God help us all and thank you for sharing this with us.
March 18, 2010 at 3:05 am
Guyz?
Since running across your site, it has always been a pleasure to link to you, to quote you, and to recommend you to others on the drafty perches I occupy on the web- but nevermore so than now.
Thanks for writing this.
This Old Keyboard Cowboy is pulling for you, and our nation.
March 18, 2010 at 5:37 am
Thanks Hillboyz and fellow Buzzers. I have not prayed for a very, very long time. I am now.
March 18, 2010 at 6:33 am
… for your prompt to pray. I opened my dusty Bible randomly last evening after reading your post and found myself in 1Chronicles ch.18. I spent the next many minutes shaking my head and chuckling and marinating in the awesomeness of our God as I read about David’s victories. God bless all the Hillbuz warriors. And thank you.
March 18, 2010 at 7:21 am
Because it is Lent, my church has been singing the “Kyrie” (“Lord Have Mercy”) at mass each Sunday. I cannot remember the entire tune, but the first couple lines of lyrics and music are playing over and over in my head. The setting is by Schubert.
In light of this awful health rationing legislation (which is political filth no matter which way you slice it), and in light of some family health concerns about my mom, these words seem apprpriate: “Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.”
March 18, 2010 at 7:35 am
You know, I am continuing to think about you guyz (and how much we all just LIKE you) … I am sure there are many of us who would love nothing more than to hang with you on the other side of the pearly gates. I thought I should tell you a secret that every faithful Christian knows … sometimes, God doesn’t do things the way we think would be best on the outset. Sometimes we ask for something and he just says “no”. When my husband and I were hunting for our first house, I fell in love with one that just wasn’t to be … looking back, I see now that buying that particular house would probably been the end of our young marriage because his parents would have moved in with us directly. Ugh. I shudder to think of not having my lovely husband, of living with his sometimes horrid parents, of never knowing my beautiful daughters. I also had a stroke at 36 … same thing … blessings all around.
So what I am saying, darling boyz, is that God knows how to best work through these things. At times, he allows evil to thrive in order to achieve some greater purpose. It occurred to me with a chill last night as I was praying for you all that God loves you enough to allow snakes to destroy our country if that means touching your hearts. Yes, it is true! You will see that, through this terrible time, God is indeed at work. He uses all of Satan’s power for his own purposes. It has been like this since the beginning … wars, suffering, survival, all accompanied by countless blessings for those who love him. There is a great battle being raged around us between the most basic and fundamental … good and evil. Yes, let’s continue to pray that God rescues us this time, but if he chooses to not, let us have faith he will rescue us in the end! Blessings and peace. Lisaz

I do this when I need it. You can send a prayer to the Western Wall in Israel, they will insert it in the wall.
Its only $8.00.
I am going to do this today. America needs all the prayers it can get.

Oh my, could Massachusetts save us again? The Democrats are wavering in Scott Brown’s state, maybe our prayers are working, keep it up everyone…
The irony is just too much.
March 18, 2010 at 7:49 am
It is soooo gratifying to see so many others have been praying too. I no longer feel so alone. I have thought for some time that Zero was allowed to become leader for a reason, perhaps to bring more of us back to him.
Please remember God isn’t Santa Claus. Do not forget him once we are past this crisis. Although I suspect the current crop in Washington will lead us on to another crisis.
March 18, 2010 at 7:51 am
THank you for your post. It was very moving.

By the way, Gerry Connolly is the whatever-they-call (leader? president?) it of the freshman class of congress. He was elected in a district that is very moderate and swing. I had previously thought he was a solid yes, but he is now described as ‘undecided.’
He has drawn two strong republican challengers and fact is he has been voting straight Pelosi – FAR to the left of his district.
My thought is when you call, please mention that you campaigned for Scott Brown from out of state and if you donated. It’s important to let them know that your opinion is relevant even though you aren’t in their district.
March 18, 2010 at 6:28 pm
I’ll have to fax ol’ Gerry, seeing as I’m in his district and all… I heard the first radio ad from a challenger today.
March 18, 2010 at 9:21 am
Thanks. I like having the district fax numbers.
March 18, 2010 at 9:50 am
Thanks for this, perries!
March 18, 2010 at 8:46 am
Thank you.
March 18, 2010 at 9:00 am
You know what I find amazing is how many of us believe in God, whether we turn to him daily or when times get tough, so many of you know scriptures and have confidence in God not yourselves. Love the rosaries up, also Our Lady of Perpetual Help”, love her, don’t we all have this burden of conquering the impossible concerning the health care bill or whatever they are calling at the moment? When it’s seems impossible and our knees begins to shake a bit…Believe in God for He can do the impossible.
March 18, 2010 at 9:10 am
Love this!
March 18, 2010 at 9:02 pm
Thanks Brenda. Here at the Buzz we come from all walks of life but we come together for a better government, and when times seem insurmountable we turn to God. Keep the faith, our prayers are music to God’s ears.
March 18, 2010 at 9:04 am
A Yes vote flips to a NO vote:
“In a sign of how tough it’s been for Pelosi to round up votes for the massive bill, Lynch – a South Boston Democrat who supported a House reform package last year – said he’ll probably vote against a key Senate version of the legislation, unless unexpected major changes are made soon.”
http://www.bostonherald.com/business/general/view.bg?articleid=1240545
Rep. Lynch was counted as ‘in the bag’ as a YES vote. But they were wrong.
Take heart you guys – we can make inroads here. The leadership is out of control and the ones who want to survive must jump off the crazy train.
I was reading the morning briefing over at redstate and the top item (actually dated yesterday), describes the blogger’s visit to the Hill and talks with staffers. They describe a leadership that is not listening, is lying to their own caucus and is refusing to moderate its queasy plunge. The dems need to revolt. Nancy must go.
March 18, 2010 at 9:21 am
I like to see a rep with some principles. Thank you, Congressman Lynch.
March 18, 2010 at 9:09 am
I always pray, but some months ago, I have been praying for our Country…something I never felt compelled to do.
March 18, 2010 at 9:15 am
Any reasonable dems with a conscience do need to revolt.
Also, people, do not be moved one way or the other by the CBO scores. These are irrelevant. Paper has been pushed back and forth all week in order to manipulate the numbers into coming out “just right,” or under a billion. It’s all part of the game of how Washington works.
March 18, 2010 at 9:20 am
The CBO is doing calculations with these Demons breathing down their neck. If the calculations don’t please “them”, they tweak things and send CBO back at it until they get the answer they want. This is a dirty, dirty process.
March 18, 2010 at 2:22 pm
Make that “just under a trillion“. I know that is what you meant!
March 18, 2010 at 6:27 pm
Yes, thanks.

http://michellemalkin.com/2010/03/18/hang-in-there-rep-stupak/
This reminds me of what the Hill Buzz boyz have gone through the last year or so.
Please support Stupak who is standing by his principles. Whether you are pro-life or not, we should all support this man. How many in Washington actually stick to their convictions in a tough fight? Not many. We need to find those who do and support them until the end.

They are threatening him and his wife and talking about spitting on them? Nice. Reminds me of the way they treat Hillbuzz.

“Something very powerful was against us, and I don’t mean people.”
A VERY SPECIAL CALL TO PRAYER FROM PHYLLIS SCHLAFLY
This is a short piece and a prayer from the brilliant Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum that I wanted to share with you. At this time when Congress is attempting to destroy our foundation and despair creeps in, time to take a break, count our blessings and get a grip on the knowledge that we have come from dark days like this before.
God bless all you Patriots, and God bless America.
A Very Special Call to Prayer from Phyllis Schlafly
March 16, 2010
Dear Eagle Forum Members Nationwide,
In the midst of our current battle against the looming government-takeover of one-sixth of the U.S. economy, I would like to take a few moments to recall an inspiring story from my days fighting against the feminists’ Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Unlike our present battle, all “the powers that be” were against us back then – both houses of Congress, three Presidents (Nixon, Ford, and Carter), all of the First Ladies, all the Hollywood celebrities, 99% of the media, and even a large percentage of the American public.
The day of the most crucial vote on ERA in the Illinois Legislature was very dramatic. We had done all we could to line up the votes, but we knew we were two votes short. As the votes lighted up on the electronic board, we all held our breath in anxiety. Then, a great shout went up from the gallery – “We won!”
ABC put then-president of the National Organization for Women (NOW) Eleanor Smeal in front of a news camera and asked her, “What happened?!” She replied, “Something very powerful was against us, and I don’t mean people.”
Eleanor Smeal didn’t know what it was, but we did. We knew that we had the truth on our side and that the good Lord had brought us the votes from the two Chicago legislators who had never voted with us before.
And so, in the remaining days and hours before the most crucial vote the U.S. Congress will ever cast, I ask you to pray that Our Lord intercedes in this battle for the future of our nation and that the truth, once again, prevails.
Faithfully,
Phyllis Schlafly
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.”

“The Star-Spangled Banner” with the Boston Pops
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U5SGSr6kXY&feature=player_embedded
“The Star-Spangled Banner” is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics come from a poem written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key. Key, a 35-year-old amateur poet, wrote “Defence of Fort McHenry” after seeing the bombardment of Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland by British ships in Chesapeake Bay during the War of 1812.

Didn’t there used to be a saying “there are no atheists in foxholes”? Well, we’re in a foxhole right now and the enemy is getting closer; and there are no atheists in here…… have faith in God. Even if everything looks terrible, God is still able. Remember that He who created all that there is is the “master of the impossible.” It is only when things are IMpossible for man, and they turn to God, that God is able truly show His power.
March 18, 2010 at 10:14 am
I fail to grasp the concept that an omnipotent being, one called a creator, would have a gender and that gender would be male. It would make more sense for a divine being to be female — and even more sense for it not to have a gender. More to the point, while I don’t begrudge anyone their religion (counting Islam as a racket), I’m as offended by this sentiment — we need to turn to the Christian god to fight socialism — as I’m sure some readers here are by my references to god as She.
March 18, 2010 at 2:57 pm
SFGoth,
Biblical scholars are almost all in agreement that God is male. When you go into the original Hebrew & Greek manuscripts, the way the words are spelled out also denote gender (much like the French “la” is feminine, “le” is masculine. A few things are neuter).
For example: When Genesis writer relates the story of creation, God speaks and says “Let us make man.” The Hebrew words show that a masculine voice is speaking. My son-in-law, who is a pastor, took a year of Greek & a year of Hebrew. Trust me on this, God is real and He is masculine.
March 18, 2010 at 6:50 pm
“Biblical scholars are almost all in agreement that God is male.” Wow, they’ve discovered the gender of the Almighty. Did he have a briss? Holy foreskin Batman! Ok…. I wonder how much of this had to do with men being, well, the ones in charge back then. If women wrote all that stuff, they wouldn’t have fibbed on god’s gender.
March 18, 2010 at 6:46 pm
SFGoth — peace to you. Why take offense when people who are Christians, or raised in a Christian tradition, express their impulse to pray in Christian terms? And why assume that they are “offended” when you express your understanding of God in different language? (And if they are offended, why do you care?)
As for referring to God with masculine pronouns:
From a Catholic Christian POV:
God inspired the writers of the the Old Testament to describe him as “He” because His relationship to us is better described by comparing it to paternity, not maternity. God, being spirit, is not literally male or female, and both men and women are made in His image.
When God the Son — the Second Person of the Trinity — became human at the Incarnation, he became incarnate as a male. Again, this is reflects us that God’s relationship to us is more like what we know as paternity, not maternity — or, in the person of Christ, like a groom’s relationship to his bride (the book of Revelation is full of nuptial metaphor).
March 18, 2010 at 6:55 pm
I don’t take offense at people who pray. I assume they take offense when I refer to god as “she” because, in my experience, they do. What I do take offense to is history of Catholic Europe in the sense of the Church as a racket bent on political and social domination, vilifying, if not murdering, people of science, other faiths, non-believers, etc. See Copernicus, Galileo, etc.
March 18, 2010 at 8:37 pm
Please allow me to suggest that the spiritually generous way would be to continue to give people the benefit of the doubt, and not assume that they’re offended unless they tell you so.
What I do take offense to is history of Catholic Europe in the sense of the Church as a racket bent on political and social domination, vilifying, if not murdering, people of science, other faiths, non-believers, etc. See Copernicus, Galileo, etc.
As well you should, because “history” told this way is full of half-truths, distortions, and outright lies. The Church preserved knowledge and literature during the anarchy after the fall of the Roman Empire in the West. She founded the first universities and the first hospitals. Copernicus was a canon lawyer and may have been a priest; his work was published at the urging of several eminent high-ranking clergymen, and was dedicated to the Pope. Galileo’s troubles came because he was asked to discussed about heliocentrism as a theory and not as if the SCIENCE WAS SETTLED — because at that time it wasn’t: most astronomers (including Tycho Brahe, Kepler’s mentor) were still going in for geocentrism, and Galileo hadn’t conclusively proved his case yet.
Galileo refused to mind his tone and went on honking about how THE SCIENCE WAS SETTLED. In doing so he mocked the Pope (who was a personal friend and had protected him earlier) and attacked one of the Jesuit astronomers who had supported him. Even after he was placed under house arrest he was permitted to continue his studies and to publish.
Meanwhile, other Catholic laity and clergy made many great contributions to the sciences. For example, there are at least 35 craters on the moon named after the priest-astronomers who produced the first detailed maps of the moon.
Certainly there are plenty of times that the Church and her stupid or wickedness of her members — have dropped the ball. But to paint it as a monolithic force for evil is to have been hoodwinked by false history.
And with that, I will cease my threadjack.
March 18, 2010 at 8:47 pm
Sorry, if a female was abused by her father in a religious setting—-
a male god is a very negative thing.
A female deity would give comfort.
A male deity would be reminders of rape and brutality.
I’m with SF on this.
Gender is our construct…and if pushed, will push people away, not to god.
So if God must be male,
I’ll go find another, thankyouverymuch.
March 18, 2010 at 9:35 am
I have to admit, I’m a bit depressed to read that the CBO numbers came out and didn’t hurt the Democrats cause. Not much is stopping them now. I had this hope that the CBO would blow this thing all up in the air, but it didn’t.
Still calling and applying pressure, but the easy way out is not there anymore. :-(
March 18, 2010 at 9:51 am
The CBO score is “out” but only by DemonPassRats, NOT the CBO. Hoyer announced it. There has been no official announcement or report released yet.
And I really find it interesting that they can score a bill that hasn’t even been written yet. What are they scoring? The Senate bill? The Senate bill with reconciliation? What part of reconciliation as there will be challenges to some of it based on the Byrd Rule and might well not go through? The shell bill that reconciliation is to be folded into?
And does this include the student loan program as well? What’s the price tag for THAT?
Does it include funding of abortions? Does it include funding for illegal aliens?
Nobody knows because it’s based on a vapor bill not a real bill because…
THERE IS NO REAL BILL!
It is what they say it is, or it isn’t what they say it isn’t. (Personally, I think it is what they say it isn’t and isn’t what they say it is because THEY LIE!!!! Repeatedly and without qualms anymore. These people are truly evil. The ends justify the means… they learned that lesson well, and I am learning just how destructive it is to base everything on a lie. I’m coming more and more to understand that the Godly principles I grew up with don’t just make my life work, they make society work. Without them, there is no up or down, right or wrong. There is only illusion of what others say, and if you know they are lying, WHERE’S THE TRUTH?!)
March 18, 2010 at 9:58 am
THANK YOU!!!
March 18, 2010 at 10:00 am
Well, they are going to be releasing this so-called bill today, right? That would then get the “clock ticking” for the 72 hours for the vote on bloody sunday (as Drudge calls it). We’ll see what it says then. I honestly don’t believe that the cbo report was based on the actual bill that’s going to be released, though. There was way too much “tweaking” going on behind the scenes for the last week to actually be representing the bill they’re going to be releasing.
I have to admit that I had a chill of fear when I saw the report of how they got “the lie” to say that it would SAVE money in the deficit. I fear that will give the so-called fence sitters an excuse to come over to the “yes” side. Not that they needed one themselves, but they just wanted something to be able to say to their constituents as an excuse for voting for it- and it now appears that they have that.
March 18, 2010 at 9:39 am
Obama is telling the reps that this bill passing is about his presidency. Barry’s ego is on the line.
Please pray that the reps vote for what is best for America, not what’s best for The Won.
March 18, 2010 at 9:46 am
THIRD. WORLD. PRESIDENCY.
This is the way Castro thinks, and Chavez… They think what is good for THEM, not what is in the best interests of the country and her citizens.
March 18, 2010 at 1:17 pm
“….About his presidency..”.I have a feeling that was the wrong thing for this guy to say. I have a feeling a lot of these dem folks in Congress are seriously fed up with really crappy President. Making it about him and his presidency is not a selling point.
March 18, 2010 at 6:43 pm
Wasn’t it always for TheWon himself
and his puppeteers (masters)?
March 18, 2010 at 9:47 am
reading all these posts thru my tears..we cannot give up, our country is in peril unless we can turn this around..i have faith that there are many who will do their utmost to reverse this unholy HCB if it “passes”!
March 18, 2010 at 9:54 am
Congressman Steve King, Iowa, is on the Glenn Beck show this morning discussing the fact that these people are planning to vote Sunday, the Sabbath and during Lent! That is disrespectful, not only to the American people who know our God-given rights, but it is an affront to God, himself. I, personally, am deeply offended. Congressman King is asking us to drop our plows and hammers, drive, walk, fly to D.C. Sunday to stand in the halls and visit the offices of these weasels.
March 18, 2010 at 10:04 am
I am listening as well…Glenn, Stu and Pat can’t seem to ‘joke’ this morning. Nor can I (can’t).
I hope Rep. King and other ‘good’ leaders can prevent this.
March 18, 2010 at 10:14 am
What more evidence do you need that evil is controlling Washington?
March 18, 2010 at 10:32 am
He said SATURDAY.
The vote is on Sunday.
March 18, 2010 at 11:22 am
You are correct, Kristi. Saturday. Thank you.
March 18, 2010 at 9:59 am
I love the Internet. It’s brought me closer to people I’ve never met, to people like you Boyz that I respect and admire more than I can say.
God hears all prayers. And I’ve been doing a lot of it lately. I want my daughter to grow up in the same free country I did. And I thank you for adding your prayers to mine.
I heard somewhere that the words “fear not” appear 365 times in the Bible? That’s one for every day of the year. As long as we pray and continue to support one another, we have nothing to fear.
There will be light at the end of this tunnel. I feel God has something wonderful in store for all of us that love this country so very much.
Thanks again, Boyz, for the wonderful post. And may God bless you.
March 18, 2010 at 10:01 am
Listening to Glenn Beck this morning of CBO cooked numbers and dirty deal after dirty deal being done.
Beck has a Rep., from Iowa, Steve King. Rep. King said he wants Americans to come to DC this weekend and ‘flood’ the Capital. Why? We are now living in Prague in 1989…we need to rattle our ‘keys’ as the Cheks did to send the message.
He is asking ‘this’ as a vote is tentatively set for Sunday morning. On a Sabbath morning, during the Holy Season of Lent, the forces of evil will vote to change our Republic.
Keep the prayers up folks…and add an intention that millions can descend on OUR District of Columbia to help stop this Obamination.
Thank you Boyz for giving us this forum to share with like minded Patriots.
March 18, 2010 at 10:07 am
In MHO,
THIS THREAD SHOULD STAY PERMANENTLY UP
UNDER THE INTRO POST.
WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO TIL JANUARY 2012…
REGARDLESS OF HOW THIS PARTICULAR ‘HUMP’
TURNS OUT.
WHAT SAY YOU, “BUZZ WARRIORS”?
March 18, 2010 at 10:08 am
God bless you boyz. We are praying here, too. We pray this prayer almost every morning at our house. We put in the names of our president, speaker of the house, senators and representatives, regardless of whether we agree with them or not.
O LORD our Governor, whose glory is in all the world; We commend this nation to thy merciful care, that being guided by thy Providence, we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant to THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, and to all in Authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them with the love of truth and righteousness; and make them ever mindful of their calling to serve this people in thy fear; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. I’ve been in a state of alarm since around Feb. 09. The fact that these evil people think they are doing good is irrelevant. They are going to cause massive damage to American society and our economy with what they are planning.
March 18, 2010 at 10:13 am
Dear Lord,
I come before you this morning to seek your help in our fight against the evil in Washington. Our country has been taking over by those who wish to enslave the people. They lie, cheat, blackmail and bribe in an attempt to thwart the will of the people. This country was founded to be one nation under God and today I look to You to help us save it. Send down your angels to strengthen those that fight against the evil. Use them to drive out the demons that are controlling this country. Only with your help can we take back control of our nation. I know that with Your help we will win this battle.
Amen

March 18, 2010 at 10:55 am
Wow, is right. I had to cry reading this post also. I know I am tired, this week has been exhausting trying to fight the madness. But even if I was not feeling so overwhelmed – I still would have cried. It was a beautifully put together article – one that reminds us of the sacrifices made by our fore fathers and our families to make America the greatest nation on this earth. We are under a different attack now. One that requires the sacrifice of a lot time and money – the latter of what I don’t have much left of. Thanks for the reminder and that sometime we just need to re-energize. The Lord is a big help there – along with the moving and powerful reminders of those that have gone before us. We must continue the battle for those who have no voice right now in what is being done under this administration – our children and grandchildren. Thanks again for the article. Well done.

Pondering the possibility of America being “remade” under the auspices of a Health Care Non-Vote-Deeming, I found myself thinking of St. Patrick, and the conflict between the English and the Irish; the Irish famine and the longview of God, which we cannot see or understand.
Many in America -a distinct majority, if polls are to be believed- are against the Health Care reforms we call “Obamacare” and they’re angry about the manner in which the Democrat-run Congress is trying to force them into law.
There is talk -and for some it is more than mere talk- of a revolutionary response, to the bill’s passing in its current state and by currently argued (or ignored) measures.
All of this is being perceived by many -on the left and the right, but most particularly on the right- as profoundly negative and worrying. “This cannot be allowed to happen” is what I see in my emails. “Americans will not stand for it,” is what I hear on my radio.
And yet, there is a very good chance that an arrogantly forced-through action making Obamacare the law of the land will happen. Because Americans are basically law-abiding, and because many of them are deplorably uninformed as to history or civics, the Democrats are counting on the American people to (after some initial hesitation and predictable noise) settle down and fall in line with an abundance of new laws. There is every reason to believe that largely-unaware and short-term memory challenged Americans (quickly, ask around you, who remembers the death of the Space Shuttle Columbia?) can be induced to plug in their iPods, download a few amusing apps to their iPhones, and more or less tune out a coup that is being dressed in the dreary robes of policywonk speak.
So for those Americans who are still wide-awake, whose consciences have not yet switched off and retired them into a monosyllabic haze, this is a very anxious, fretful time. People are distressed about the present, concerned about the future and wishful for a way to “go back” rather than forward.
Going back, however, is not an option and it will never happen; the thrust of narrative is always forward.
Then how do we deal with this present moment? How do we rein in our imaginations about the best and worst possibilities in our future, when all around us seems to be only but chaos, confusion and looming catastrophe.
This is where St. Patrick comes in.
The mind of God is unknowable; he works with a slow, centuries-spanning hand. But when we look back at history and events we can always see -if we really look- how sometimes terrible things had to happen, in order for that narrative thrust to be properly propelled.
St. Patrick was Romano-Britain -a Roman citizen of Britain- who was captured by Irish raiders and sold into slavery. After escaping and entering the church, he returned to Ireland as a bishop, and is universally credited with converting Eire to Christianity.
His slavery was a terrible thing that was allowed to happen; it drove him back to Ireland for a larger purpose. Read Thomas Cahill’s How the Irish Saved Civilization to understand how the inarguable negative of Patrick’s capture and enslavement became the impetus for an absolute good.
Patrick’s Catholic Ireland eventually suffered much, of course, at the hands of Protestant Britain; the penal codes the British used to subjugate and disempower the Irish Catholic majority was a horrendous bit of legislation, brutally enforced. It kept the Irish ignorant, unschooled, unpropertied, and dependent upon the potato as its basic food supply. When the potato crop suffered a blight, over a million people died of starvation; several million more immigrated, mostly to North America. Their broad backs and their adrenaline-junkie temperaments helped build and safeguard our cities, and today nearly 40 millions Americans can trace some part of their heritage to Ireland. The Irish then, share abundantly, in the story of America’s success and prosperity.
So, the British oppression of Ireland was a bad thing that was allowed to happen; another inarguable negative that laid the framework for an eventual “good”.
I’ve written many times before that sometimes a bad thing must happen, before eventual good things can take place. You have to look for it.
Unfortunately, the “positives” often do not show themselves for lifetimes and generations. Patrick’s mother could not imagine that her son’s enslavement would eventually result in the rescue of the history, art, philosophy and literature of an entire civilization, that his converting the Irish would strengthen them to endure catastrophe, and then launch themselves into the world as the burly shoulders of civil, military and community leadership. The “Apostle of Ireland” could could not have imagined it, himself.
For that matter, the apostles who laid low in an upper room after the crucifixion of their master could not have imagined that 2000 years later, Christianity would be the world-force it is, for better and for worse, and still evolving, still learning, still building within the mystery.
God’s hand moves slowly; his mind is unknowable, but we have been told there is a plan. “I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord; plans of fullness, not of harm, to give you a future and a hope.”
Throughout scripture we read “do not be afraid.” We read “only believe.” We read that “faith the size of a mustard seed” is enough to move mountains.
We read “fear is useless; what is needed is trust.”
That does not mean that when we see injustice we do nothing. It does not mean that if we see our government tumbling, we sit back and let it tumble.
But it does mean that we look at what happens around us with a Godly eye -with a genuine and faith-filled trust toward that longview that we cannot see, but which is full of God’s creative intention.
God is all-good. His intention can be nothing else but good.
While we’re fretting, while we’re activating, while we’re gathering, we should also consider that every “good” has its opposite, and so does every “bad.” American notions of liberty has been “the last best hope” for much of the world, but it has also made us self-indulgent, sometimes to excess. American prosperity has bettered the lives of hundreds of millions; it has also fed the human instinct to greed. In the eyes of God, well, all have sinned; none are perfect save Christ, and who knows what His justice is, compared to our understanding?
All of that is worth pondering, and praying about, as we watch what is taking place in our country today. Since we are in the middle of a picture, we cannot see the totality of it; we have a notion of how the picture began and how it might end, but we do not really know; our most outlandish imaginings cannot tell us.
But we do have a clue. Patrick’s enslavement took place in the 4th century; that not-especially unique event in the life of one man has had effect into the 21st. Everything that happens, for good or for evil, reverberates through the centuries, all of it the means of serving not our own finite ends, but God’s eternal ends.
In which case, I am sorry to seem simplistic, but “do not be afraid.” And, “fear is useless; what is needed is trust.”
I think I’ll file this under “Crucible of Faith.”

Hillbuzz,
I read a letter sent by John Adams to Abigail when he was working with the founding fathers in Philadelphia and the Revolutionary War was pressuring the leadership. John conveyed to Abigail that the entire gathering of founding fathers read and prayed over Psalm 35. They found such strength in the passage that they concluded the war could be won even against such odds as they faced.
Perhaps we should again read Psalm 35 and try to derive the same strength as the founding fathers. It is a powerful passage. Our challenges today are not greater than the ones that they faced at that time. We have to have faith and rely on God’s strength to sustain us when nothing else can.
Thanks for your prayers for America! Keep it up, and know that we are praying with you!

Your post reminded me of a jewish prayer for the country that I remember reading in my synagogue’s prayer book as a child. Here it is below. Too bad such a high percentage of jews are mindless liberal voters (as I once was). Hopefully they will see the truth of what is happening.
“Our God and God of our ancestors: In this time of national tragedy and sadness, we ask your blessings for our country, for its government, for its leaders and advisors, and for all who exercise just and rightful authority. Teach them the insights of Your Torah, that they may administer all affairs of state fairly, that peace and security, happiness and prosperity, justice and freedom may once again abide in our midst.
Creator of all flesh, bless all the inhabitants of our country with Your spirit. May citizens of all races and creeds forge a common bond in true harmony to banish all hatred and bigotry and to safeguard the ideals and free institutions which are the pride and glory of our country.
May this land under Your providence be an influence for good throughout the world, uniting all people in peace and freedom and helping them to fulfill the vision of your prophet: “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they experience war any more.”

Please God don’t let them pass this night mare health reform bill. They will force people to take certain tests, and then force them to have treatment based on their ideas, or deny them treatment based on age, and other factors. Just like abortion is a choice between you and your doctor or your God to decide, your health care treatment should be decided by you and whoever YOU decide is your highest authority, not this government. The government should not be allowed to tell us what to do, whether it involves abortions, operations, treatment plans or anything else. The ramifications of it is so horrific that it is stunning. Fix the things that need fixing but leave individual decisions to individuals, their families, and their God. Thank you God in advance.

March 18, 2010 at 4:10 pm
Hello Dear Boyz -
I’ve been praying for our country since before the election. Sometimes I pray generally, that He will be merciful & help us, and sometimes I get more specific, praying for the troops & veterans, & patriots I know by name.
Last night I prayed specifically for you, that God would strengthen you, protect you, & draw you back to Him. Last night you ended up in church, praying & lighting candles. I am praising Him for answered prayer!!!
I really believe God allowed this Obama into office to WAKE UP AMERICA! We have been complacent, spoiled children for way too long.
Think about all the miracles that have happened recently to encourage us: Scott Brown’s win, the global warming fiasco exposed, (while record breaking snowfalls shut down DC), the fizzling out of the swine flu that was going to kill us all, the success of the Tea Party Movement… I see His hand in everything.
May He bless everyone here with His peace & love & protection!
Susan
March 18, 2010 at 6:04 pm
I have started to believe what you say – maybe God has a plan in all this. We have been much too complacent.
March 19, 2010 at 10:23 am
Susan,
I have thougth this so often during this last year! I know that God is in control of this. He is helping us fight for ourselves and our Republic if we just do our part! He is helping us expose this Marxism in the left wing!
I continue to be amazed and to draw strength in the knowledge that He is with us through this. He was with the founding fathers as well, and it is our turn to wage the fight!
Keep Praying!

Hello, I’m visiting from Ace of Spades HQ, and some of us follow you folks. I’m glad that you made a return visit, and that you were welcomed. I’m saddened that you feel estranged in what should be your home. As a Catholic, I say welcome back.

You guys are so cool and so funny. You really are about hope. I prayed for healing. Like all of us, people who make spiritual mistakes are not spiritually healthy. They are proud and self-centered, and their intuitive sight is off, which we all can and do fall into. I prayed these people be healed and that our country be healed. The word says, “Forgive them for they know not what they do.” I am proud of those who have stood on their principles. I’m sure they have been sorely tested. I pray for them, too. Keep doing what you are doing, I think it’s great. By the way, I think it’s possible artists are being the little rebels they are and purposely inserting little subversive pictures in the photos of Mr. and Mrs. McPresident.

From the sixth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew:
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life?
28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin;
29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith?
31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or’What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32 For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.
34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day’s own trouble be sufficient for the day.”

Beautifully written and passionately awesome post!
March 18, 2010 at 9:37 pm
Thanks for posting this, Abigail.
God’s word is powerful. And comforting.
——————————————
What in the world ever happened to make SFGoth and EZBurns so bitter??
EZ said: “Sorry, if a female was abused by her father in a religious setting—-
a male god is a very negative thing.
A female deity would give comfort.
A male deity would be reminders of rape and brutality.
I’m with SF on this.
Gender is our construct…and if pushed, will push people away, not to god.
So if God must be male,
I’ll go find another, thankyouverymuch.”
——————————————-
So . . EZ. How do you then explain FEMALE criminals who commit sexual crimes against children in a religious setting?? Don’t these bad women then give your God Woman a bad name???
All of us are sinners—both genders.
Scripture says “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Yes, men wrote the Bible because God told them what to write down. In His Word, God tells us that “Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” Also, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.” We Christians trust in those Words. As a little girl in Sunday School, one of my teachers summed it up: “God’s Word teaches us how to live and how to die in faith.”
I am in awe that God loved me so much that he revealed Himself in His Word—for ME to read 2,000 years later and find comfort & salvation. In this Lenten season, the message of Christ’s suffering & death lead us to His Easter resurrection.
Subject of this thread was prayer
to subvert Obama’s Heinous Healthcare
bill. As someone else wrote, “where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” Whatever comes to pass, God still holds us in His hands.
March 18, 2010 at 9:45 pm
I work with the criminally insane as well as juvie wards of the state who’ve had things happen to them you can’t imagine.
My abuse I’ll keep private. I’m not bitter, I’m a survivor because I refused to be told that there was only one way to see God. If I saw him through your eyes…I’d be like those I care for.
All I was saying is that by insisting that God be ‘male’ isn’t a warm fuzzy for some of us……
So, you pray to he..
SFGoth will pray to she
And I’ll pray to a comforting, safe neutral without sex organs.
Thankyouvermuchandhaveaniceday.
March 19, 2010 at 8:51 am
We were taught by the nuns that God is LOVE.
(which I believe has scriptural basis in the writings of Paul)
LOVE is gender neutral, having no sex.
However Christians believe that Love was made manifest on earth in the person of Jesus Christ, that’s why the reference to God as a He.
When Christ was asked what was the greatest commandment, He said: To love one another as I have loved you.
which also gives support to the concept that God is Love.

Boyz – thank you so much for this post. I think we are at a crossroads and God will give us another chance if we, the people of this great nation, will once again acknowledge him, follow him and ask for forgiveness and redemption. We have squandered so many blessings, so why should God keep blessing us if we fail to acknowledge him. My prayer is that we go to our knees and stay there. We are in serious trouble that will only be fixed supernaturally. PRAY EVERYBODY!
