Why is Karl Marx hiding in that apple?
Do you see this?
Why is there a portrait of Karl Marx in the apple sitting in front of our “fashion icon” First Lady, in her latest appearance on the cover of Newsweek (which replaces her bulbous giant belts with Nosferatu nails as the de rigeur accessory for spring)?
The only place in our education system Karl Marx belongs in is a chapter on lunatics who espoused ideas so terrible and destructive they must never be attempted anywhere on the globe again (ironically enough, this is where the Obamas’ “Golden Age of Hope and Change” will also be covered someday).
He does not belong sitting in front of the First Lady of the United States, no matter how terrible she herself is.
Or how laughable it is to think she’d be eating apples. The junk in her trunk comes from somewhere — despite her railing against everyone else for being obese — and it sure isn’t from packing away too many McIntoshes or Granny Smiths.

It has not been photoshopped.
Early this morning, 3/16/10, it looks like the White House ordered Newsweek to crop the photo so the apple is no longer visible online. Newsweek has cut the table out completely, now, because whatever’s going on in this photo was noticed by the public.
We spotted this photo late last night, and put it up immediately.
It’s clear as day that’s Karl Marx posing proudly in front of a woman who is “proud of apples for the first time in (her) adult life” after finding this Marxist one.
She’s like the crazy old lady who used to find potato chips that looked like cartoon characters or Abraham Lincoln, who went on the Tonight Show to tell Johnny Carson all about it. Well, now we’ve got a First Lady who finds communists in fruit and shows them off to Newsweek.

The “Feed Your Children Well” is a deliberate echo of Crosby, Stills and Nash “ Teach your children well/ Their father’s Hell did slowly go by/ And feed them on your dreams/ The one they picked, the one you’ll know by.”
It is a Dreams of My Father echo, pushing a feed/teach your children well image, by featuring the healthy red apple of Marx as the desirable point of view.
In my totally speculative guess, it is a double game being played. The “subliminal” message is pretty obvious, and designed to be “discovered” and to provoke the “bitter clingers” into anger and fury (as opposed to the uproarious laughter this typically puerile Leftist silliness ought to provoke).
It is a double game because it is ultimately designed to discourage folks from stating the obvious, that we DO have a communist in the White House.
The Left will respond to this by yelling “deranged McCarthyism”. But like the original McCarthyism, it will be entirely accurate, and the Left’s position will be: we will impugn you for telling the truth by calling names, and we will do it often enough and virulently enough so the unspoken charge (you are nutcases) will cause most people to shut up.

Most of us know the history behind McVeigh. He was a no hoper who joined the military but was forced out. I think it is a picture of Marx. Marx, for those who don’t know, was one of the biggest anti-social back in his days. Everything he did, he did against society. When he lived in England, a country that gave him shelter when he was ousted from Germany, his place was a pig sty. He smoked like a chimney and really let himself go. If his beard was short, it was only because it might have been an earlier picture of him. I believe that his father wanted him to study law, and he chose philosophy. Martin Luther on the other hand, was also to study law, but he chose the seminary. Both men came from the same country. An odd comparison, eh? But yet, both of them changed the world.

I think that the website you linked to has it right. This is all a bunch of bunk, but fun to see nonetheless. One can look at it many different ways. One, the original picture of the apple has no such image within the apple. Two, if a picture of Marx was photoshopped afterwards, then it could be a sign of support for Marxist philosophy that many speculate that Obama admires. Three, it may have been photoshopped to cause maximum embarrassment to Obama as his supporters deny any Marxist connections, but the picture is sure to get many worked up. I refuse to get worked up over this. The image that Hillbuzz posted is clever, and whoever did it deserves some kudos for his or her talent. By the way, I believe that Obama is a Marxist sympathizer.

Personally, I think the image looks more like one of Ayatollah Khomeini with a black turban, but that wouldn’t make as much sense as one of Karl Marx unless one sees an Islamic connection. Being that Khomeini was a Shiite, and not Sunni, this would probably make it even less likely that Khomeini was who the image was supposed to represent. Besides, I’ve never seen it written that Memechelle has ever had Muslim sympathies, even though she attended the church of Wright.

I tend to agree with you on this. Hillary did not do herself any favors with her recent comments concerning Israel. Israel may have been showing some free will with it’s actions concerning settlements, but it’s not like they haven’t done that before. It’s their right to do as they please in their country. This all reminds me of the recent situation between Israel and Turkey in which there seemed to be a political slight committed by Israel against Turkey, but when one digs further, he can see that Israel was responding to provocations from within the Turkish media that was televising a program in which Israelis were depicted as ruthless killers.

The Obamas are such control freaks. They are really into telling everyone what to do. Well, this health craze they’re on is because the government isn’t going to want to pay the medical bills for folks if they have made poor lifestyle choices that affect their health. They don’t have the guts to come out swinging at adults so they’re going after the kids. Because everyone wants healthy kids. And it’s true a lot of kids are pretty fat these days, especially poor black kids, but a lot of kids also seem to read at a low level. Which is also I’m sure an issue of national security. Certainly national economic security. How are we going to compete with the brainiac Chinese and India Indians if we can’t read? She should have embraced reading, and literacy for the kids who can’t read as well as for their parents who can’t read to them.
It seem like a better use of time and resources and doesn’t have the annoying vibe of telling people what to do. But that’s what she loves to do, because she herself is so impressive. In her own mind. Well, it is impressive how far she’s gotten on such a mediocre resume. It’s actually quite inspiring. Maybe there’s hope for me! Perhaps she should teach a seminar on that. “How to Get to the Top When You Can’t Really Do Anything”. I’d certainly go to that.

As a photographer and an artist, I am certain this is a PhotoShop job, and probably an ‘inside’ one.
I can’t imagine that the editors of Newsweak or the Obamas had anything to do with it, because there’s no WAY it could be perceived in a ‘positive light’, for EITHER.
The set-up for the photo was good…very ‘clean’
…no WH fancy dining room, designer arugula, etc.
…the FLOTUS just sitting at a plain table, dressed simply
… only ‘prop’ an apple (what could be a more appropriate food item for a story on children’s nutrition?)
So…they did the shoot, waded through a few hundred shots and narrowed it down to one.
It goes to the grunts in the Art Department, who have to make many hours of ‘revisions’.
Trust me…even with a good shot, there are many, many things that the Creative Director(s) will want changed, and most of them take hours.
This kind of work is tedious as hell.
Besides the ‘apple’, I get the distinct impression that whatever graphic designer was assigned this job didn’t like Me-me-chelle a whole lot because there are a whole lot of graphic issues he/she COULD have fixed and DIDN’T. I’d also question why the Creative Director didn’t order them.
I’d love to get my hands on a ‘hard’ copy, but even with a digital image, I could immediately spot things I would have ‘touched up’ if given this assignment.
e.g. clean up her creepy hairline, smoothe out some of the deep wrinkles around her mouth, take off some of the ‘shine’, but particularly smoothe out the skin on her hands and particularly on her forearms. There’s lots of typical stuff that everybody has on their arms…veins, old scars, etc. and that’s all still visible. I find it weird that none of this was corrected.
IMHO, somebody thought the apple presented a great oppportunity and the designer decided to ‘have some fun’. (This happens ALL the time in the biz, and I could tell you stories from my ad agency experience that would curl your hair.)
The art department grunts are the last ones to handle the file before it is sent to the printer, web master, etc.
Somebody got some ‘splainin’ to do.
FWIW, I think the face looks more like Tolstoy than Marx.
But, hey, it was probably very late at night and the deadline was ‘yesterday’.

If, in fact, it was some fun-lovin’ guys/gals in the art department that did this, it COULD be that they never intended for it to see the light of day.
It would not be the first time the wrong file got sent to a printer.
However, even once the printer has it, there are at least two more rounds of ‘proofing’ that the clilent has to sign off on, before the final press run goes ahead.
I hear these aren’t scheduled to hit the newsstands until late this week, but if the doctored apple is on the cover, there’s no way they will be released.
They’re probably reprinting the issue right now.

I believe this is the probable scenario.
Anyone remember the scancal for the makers of Glade back about 15 years ago, maybe more??? At the time they were doing a springtime background theme with photos of flowers, birds, insects, “floating” around the entire aeresol can. Some poor clown in the art department added a photo of a p*n*s hiding in plain sight among all the other floating photos. The product actually made it to the stores before it was noticed, and then inventory was immediately recalled from the stores. My friend heard about it on the radio and stopped at a drugstore on the way to work and grabbed a missed can because she couldn’t believe it. Sure enough! Poor guy sure had some ‘splaining to do. Cost him his job and the company lots of dough and embarrassment. Meanwhile, the friend kept the can at work for years after the scandal died down. If she still has it, it’s probably worth a lot on e-Bay!

before my update was that Hillbuzz “fell” for a hoax, a hoax that was created by a blogger, because when I compared the cover that is appearing on lots of websites with the Newsweek cover hosted on their own site, the two are not the same. The “Marx” looking image is not nearly as clearly defined as the one that Mediaite, the Examiner, or Hillbuzz has. The beginnings of the “shroud” was clearly there. But someone along the line saw the potential for a great gag and then goosed it.
I don’t think it was Newsweek’s or the Obama’s intent to have the Marx image, their site had the more innocuous version.
Where the photoshop occurred is the question now. And when the hardcopy appears we will know if it was done at Newsweek or later on at some news service that releases these things digitally for promotion.
I still have the original Newsweek.com screen captures and they appear on the link above.

I don’t think so. I have the screen shots and laid them out side by side and over one another. The version on Newsweek’s site is not the version that is going around. Lower res or not, the field in what wold be the forehead area clearly shows in both versions, but the cheekbones (which are the same value and large enough pixels) are not in the version on Newsweek’s site.
I think someone goosed what was already almost there to make it very obvious, like outlining an accidental image when you do “feather painting” on a wall. “Hey look, that area looks like Abe Vigoda.” Then you flesh it out more so people see what you’re seeing.
We’ll see when the hard copy comes out, and frankly, I’m rooting for it to be on the cover!! That would be great.

I would have to set up a test case to see, but having dabbled somewhat in photography as part of my job, I highly doubt that a real apple would have the proper sheen to it to give such a detailed reflection.
Also, being somewhat of a Photoshop aficionado, I can say this definitely LOOK like a photoshop, but since it appears on Newsweek’s own website, it wasn’t a Photoshop by Hillbuzz or any other blogger. Definitely something meant to be on the cover.

I think what it means is that media organizations have discovered that if they put up outrageous photos and then yank them, they can really up the hits on their pages. Newsweek is nothing but a sinking mag. Plus, their editor was the one who said Obama was “sort of god.”

So, the print edition is fine, without the bastardized reflection.
Therefore, it sounds as if somebody who handled the file at the WaPo/Newsweak web hosting location had to have been the ‘gremlin’ who P’shopped the image.
That should make it fairly easy to narrow down the list of suspects.

I agree with you–Marx has no place in our society much less in front of the first lady. What propaganda. It’s about time we all agreed that capitalism is the best way of organizing humans.
If only the liberals could come together on real issues in our society, like how in this recession we can lower minimum wage so that prices will go down, or roll back those horrible unions and worker’s rights laws to make things more affordable, or cut back wage laws so that my fourteen year old can get a job in a factory to help out her family. I wish corporations ruled everything or had rights like worker’s do–we need to end worker’s rights and institute corporate rights, so that our economy can get back on track. Marxism, what a joke.
