Betty Ford became First Lady at a time when the country was dealing with previously unimaginable problems, faith in government was low, and the American spirit had taken a severe beating. She rose to the challenge and became a shining light and model of behavior, despite her immense inner personal struggles, including the battle with the bottle. Her name today is leant to a treatment center where hundreds of thousands of people have gotten the help they need to become better people and live fuller lives.
Michelle Obama became First Lady during a difficult time in the country’s history, as the United States fell into an economic depression and faith in government reached new recent depths. Instead of rising to the occasion and patriotically praising American virtues and raising spirits, she chose to hector Americans as racists, tell them their souls are broken, scold them for being obese (while clearly never looking in a mirror at herself), and spend the majority of her time posing for glamour shots in which she consistently claims she’s “a fashion icon”. Her name has quickly become synonymous with greed, excess, narcissism, and the massive waste of taxpayer money.

By sheer coincidence, when Michelle revealed that she was “proud” of our country for the first time, I had recently learned enough of what was going on in government that I was feeling disgust for our country for the FIRST time, and was anything but proud.
I will say this, that when Scott Brown won the election, I and very many others, were proud of Massachusetts for the first time – EVER. But there is so much more work to be done. The travesty, fighting for justice and what is right should NEVER BE THIS HARD, but just look at what we continue to have to fight. It’s obscene.
Hillbuzz/boyz. If you can back channel me a mailing address, I have a present for you that I think you will really love. (If you make me tell you, I will, but surprises are so fun, and I really think you will like this one.) Please advise.

I go to Newsbird first thing each day looking for some tidbit to do a Class v Crass with.
RE: the recent flap there about Michelle’s pre-White House underbite. A bunch of the folks at Newsbird said they thought she’d had jaw reduction surgery.
I researched the subject online thinking it might make a good counterpoint to Betty Ford’s mastectomy — i.e., openness vs secretive.
What I learned is that her underbite was very mild and certainly not worth the extremely high cost, numerous risks or long, painful recovery time required by jaw reduction surgery.
A simpler solution exists that matches her before and after photos. That is, porcelain veneers bonded directly to the existing upper teeth to give the appearance of the teeth being more forward in the mouth.
Where jaw reduction would actually correct the bite, veneers provide only a prettier smile. But for Michelle, I think they were the best choice and, having studied the photos closely, I think the most likely reason her smile looks better now.

I remember the picture of Betty Ford minus shoes dancing on the big dining table–for the photographer. I always thought she would be a kick to know.
March 5, 2010 at 2:48 pm
It was the CABINET table! LOL I saw that for the first time researching this and gladly added it to my files of First Lady stuff.
Betty was a huge supporter of women’s rights and to that time no women had served on the Cabinet. The White House photographer was touring the place with her on their last day and she said, “I’ve always wanted to dance on that table.”
She was a fashion model and professional dancer before becoming a political wife and kicked off her shoes, climbed up and did a little soft shoe LOL.
The photographer said he thought it was her way of thumbing her nose at all the men who wouldn’t let females serve at that table.

Fausta has a particularly “charming” picture of MO posted on her site right now. You might want to take a look. If it’s current, I’d say the rage is back.

MEchelle and Utopia are such phonies, they are trying to be Kennedy’s in every which way possible…who are these people?
MEchelle must have a whole library of Jackie K’s fashions — maybe she could start her own look???
