Here’s the latest push by the MSM for a losing GOP candidate to run against Dr. Utopia. Today it’s Mitch Daniel’s turn in the spotlight.
Republicans: do you ever think about what it means when the MSM publishes a GLOWING assessment of any Republican?
Let’s review:
(1) The MSM is Leftist controlled and wants to see the GOP lose in every race.
(2) The MSM has a track record of pushing losing GOP candidates, particularly in presidential races, before turning against them after the primaries and backing the Democrat in the general election (see: McCain 2008)
(3) The MSM likes backing Republicans with fatal flaws for a while, before destroying them publicly to damage the GOP brand (see: Mark Sanford, Charlie Crist, and Mike Huckabee)
(4) The MSM has committed to ensuring Dr. Utopia’s re-election. Chris Matthews, as MSM spokesman, has repeatedly said it’s his “job” to see that Dr. Utopia succeeds and serves a full 8 years in the White House.
Now, what about Mitch Daniels is there that the MSM loves so darn much?
The only one getting better press than him these days is Tim Pawlenty, who has a face not even his mother could love, and is used by clinicians to put hopeless insomniacs to sleep within 15 minutes of exposure.
Our question is: what does the MSM know about Mitch Daniels that they intend to use against him in 2012, should they succeed in making him the GOP’s nominee?
That’s the question Republicans need to be asking about EVERY man the MSM pushes to be the GOP nominee.

March 1, 2010 at 4:30 pm
Boyz remember how the LSM loved loved loved John McCain–he was the Maverick, wonderful wonderful. The minute he got the R side of the ticket they turned against him. I really believe he is a progressive R.
March 1, 2010 at 4:35 pm
Oh, and I am from SD and Thune one of our Senators. I was completely mad at him for supporting McCain in the primary. He was working to get him the nod. What a disaster the last election was for all of us. We all get to pay the price of Obummer’s socialist programs.
March 1, 2010 at 5:40 pm
I have been wondering why McCain did not really push against Dr. Utopia. I think that the answer has been as plain as the nose on my face all along…. McCain was born in Panama. Technically he should still be a natural born citizen. However, that could be questioned if he was not born on base.
It seems that when the issue first arose, Dr. Utopia was one of the signatories to a document that recognized McCain as being a natural born citizen…..
It is something that Dr. Utopia would have used to discredit McCain if he had been the winner.
March 1, 2010 at 6:00 pm
I must respectfully disagree. McCain did not really want to president; he wanted the highly esteemed Bob Dole “I ran for president” award.
If McCain were really serious, his whole campaign would have been Jeremiah Wright, morning, noon and night.
I think he preferred believing that history would treat him as the nice guy who lost to an historic figure.
March 1, 2010 at 7:33 pm
I agree that McCain didn’t want to win.
I think that he didn’t want to stand in the way of the first black man winning the Presidency.
I think that the McCain staffers didn’t want to win the election for this reason but Palin did want to win the election and that was the source of conflict between the two.
March 1, 2010 at 9:26 pm
Re “McCain did not really want to be president”, I totally agree. That said, I don’t believe he was consciously aware of it. In fact, I have a theory about McCain’s psychology that explains his unwillingness to fight to win.
Here is my theory:
McCain has said his favorite book is Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls. The novel’s hero, Robert Jordan, is the ultimate heroic loser. An American who came to fight the fascists in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, Jordan holds honor above all other qualities, and he will almost certainly suffer horribly and die a violent death because of his fealty to his principles. In contrast stands Pablo, a native Spaniard who fights on the same side as Jordan, but is in no way a man of principle. By far the commoner sort of man, Pablo is the ultimate pragmatist, and thus exemplifies why socialist movements always descend into bloodshed: when push comes to shove, he will always chuck his stated principles to save his life or even to preserve his personal power.
The novel concludes with a guerilla offensive against the fascists. Jordan performs heroically in the action, but when a horse falls on his leg, breaking it, he understands that he must be left behind by his comrades, as the enemy is fast approaching. Alone in the woods, for a moment he contemplates suicide, but decides against it. As he waits for the enemy soldiers to reach him, he realizes that in his days with the guerillas he has lived a lifetime. For this reason, he can accept dying, and rather than kill himself for fear of being captured alive, he resolves to take down one more fascist for the cause, his own welfare be damned.
In short, Robert Jordan “wins” by the grace with which he loses; he dies with honor. Meanwhile, the cynical, murderous Pablo lives to fight another day, and it is no accident that this happens: unlike Jordan, he’d rather be a live coward than a dead hero, any day.
If you think about John McCain’s biggest decision in life, there is striking similarity between his actions and those of the hero of his favorite novel: Shot down over Vietnam, captured by the enemy, he was at death’s door, he was beaten and tortured, yet he never mentioned he was the son of a top admiral in the US Navy; and you all know the rest. And, knowing these things about John McCain, whatever you may think of his politics, you cannot deny his uniqueness as a man. Indeed, ask yourself if George W. Bush or Bill Clinton (I won’t even bother with Obama on this one, for obvious reasons) would have volunteered to continue suffering for the sake of honor, or if, rather, more likely, they would have taken the chance offered McCain, then spent the years afterward trying to fashion explanations for why their move was in fact honorable and strategically correct.
John McCain’s decision cost him his teeth, the ability to comb his own hair, and a body filled with aches and pains that will never go away. And that is because he was *lucky*: lucky he didn’t die right after his capture, when his fellow POWs thought he was a goner, he was so ill; and lucky his captors didn’t torture him to death, either by accident or by giving him a heart attack or who knows what from all the mental and physical stress they put him through.
Senator McCain is not a dumb man, but his thinking is simplistic in many respects, one of which was his misguided sense of honor in the 2008 election. His decisions as to what tactics were off-limits for use against Obama defy all logic and common sense; when she said past associations matter and are fair game to question in political contests, Gov. Palin wasn’t just fighting to win, she was correct, morally and logically. It was McCain’s view of the matter that seems inexplicable, idiotic, even — that is, until you consider his psychological makeup, which I believe is exemplified by his choice of favorite novel, as the values it espouses are those which John McCain has lived by in the most trying moments of his life.
Our favorite novels and movies are indicators of our personality, in one way or another. In my view, For Whom the Bell Tolls is a great story, and a great book, but it is an odd choice for someone’s favorite novel, particularly for a person no longer young and idealistic. For it is indeed a paean to the idea of the heroic loser, an archetype most of us have fantasized about being ourselves — e.g., a situation arises in which we can vindicate all our failures, by stepping in front of a bus to push a stranger (usually a child) out of the way, so that those we failed to impress or disappointed in life will have to respect our final act; and, so doing, perhaps they will reconsider what they thought about us — but ultimately, we realize the silliness of these fantasies: we’re imagining ourselves being able to “overhear” our former detractors (or those who didn’t even notice us; whatever) speaking in awe of our heroism, *because we are alive at the moment*; dead, we’re not going to hear anything. (Even those of us who are religious don’t, I imagine, go around thinking of the afterlife in such lowly terms as that of being an eavesdropping ghost, floating around the living to make sure they’re well spoken-of.) Besides, why not imagine oneself performing dangerous acts of heroism *yet living*? Why not Chesley Sullenberger, instead of Robert Jordan; hell, why not Spider Man? What does it say about a man in his 70s, who has been through all that John McCain has, who yet remains in thrall to a novel glorifying the death of a principled man in service of a muddled cause that, no less, ended in total defeat? Remember, the reign of Franco only ended with his death in 1975, and democracy only came in 1978; thus, it’s pretty fair to say that Robert Jordan not only died his hero’s death for nothing in the microcosmic sense (i.e., for socialism, which has been a miserable failure and could only be such, given the nature of human beings) and in the macro sense (i.e., the fascists won).
To me, John McCain’s choice of novel suggests somewhat of an adolescent view of heroics. It is a view that, certainly, helped him endure torture and confinement in Vietnam, and so inspire his fellow POWs with his strength — but in the realm of politics, which has been aptly described as “war by other means”, it is the view of a loser, and if you hold it, in fairness you should not ask us to back you over other, less conflicted opponents.

Dogman: utterly brilliant, and not just on the subject of John McCain, but in other fascinating ways. I hope you get published.
March 2, 2010 at 1:08 pm
Dogman, that portrait of the unconcious McCain rings true in my ears. It certainly deserves to be published.
As regards drawing up an analogous portrait of Andrew Sullivan … I have to wonder, does there remain sufficient coherence and consistency in his (for want of a better term) psyche to merit the attempt?
March 2, 2010 at 3:17 pm
Amsterdam Expat,
Re your question about the Sullivan essay, “does there remain sufficient coherence and consistency in his … psyche to merit the attempt?”, the answer is:
You betcha!
Seriously though, the idea of the essay is to examine what I believe to be the root cause of Sullivan’s dramatic shift. He was the first blogger I read regularly, and I think I understand what happened with him.
March 1, 2010 at 8:49 pm
um, no.
Mccain is a natural born citizen, he was born on a US Navy ship, and there was proof of this, a federal judge saw that proof and dismissed it.
Mr.Fraud, who knows? Personally, I think he is hiding something mainly b/c he refuses to show anything.
There is nothing to discredit with Mccain, he is a 100000% natural born citizen.
And I agree with the other posters, I don’t think Mccain wanted to win.
March 1, 2010 at 10:35 pm
If McCain wasn’t born in Panama, do you think he would have failed to call the so-called “Obama” on his birth certificate?
March 1, 2010 at 11:33 pm
WoW.., JR Dogman that is brilliant analysis. I know some people who need to read that. Especially those po’d at Palin for supporting McCain.
Great job. Thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed that comment. (hope this comment ends up in the right sequence)
March 2, 2010 at 4:35 am
Thanks, sundance… Actually, I’m thinking about turning it into an article to submit to Pajamas Media or Frontpage Magazine. It needs some tweaking, but it’s a subject I’ve been thinking about for a long time.
March 2, 2010 at 4:47 am
JR, I, too, thought this was a great analysis. One thing you might want to check before submitting it for publication is whether McCain’s Vietnam captors knew he was an admiral’s son. I think I remember reading that they did know and offered to release him, but he refused. I’m not sure this affects your conclusion.
March 2, 2010 at 7:29 am
Thanks, Tonawanda… I hope so, too.
I have a few short essays in mind, that I’ve been meaning to write: this one on McCain, a similar one on the psychology of Andrew Sullivan, and, lastly, one that attempts to counter the MSM-fostered public ignorance regarding Palin’s decision to resign the Alaska governorship.
Thanks to all for the compliments — they’re an inspiration to me to get cracking on these essays. I’m a fiction writer, and I’ve been struggling on a novel, and I should take a break every now and then with nonfiction, which is easier yet, paradoxically, almost essential for keeping one’s writing skills sharp.
March 2, 2010 at 7:52 am
That is, for keeping one’s *fiction* writing skills sharp.
Also, AFinch, yes, McCain’s captors did know who his father was, and, subsequently, offer him early release for this reason — but they did not get this information from McCain himself, who until he broke under torture gave them nothing more than his name, rank, and serial number, as well as the starting lineup of the Green Bay Packers in lieu of the names of U.S. military personnel demanded by his interrogators.
Nevertheless, your suggestion tells me I will need to take greater care in describing who knew what, and when. So, thank you as well. :)
March 1, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Sorry, Need to answer your question.
Will you be a strong voice supporting the constitution? Do you believe that the constitution is a “living document”? ( IT IS NOT!!)
What will you do once elected to roll back the entitlement programs (and hopefully not heath care) that we can’t afford any more?
Last but not least, Will you cut taxes to give the American people more of there own money to spend?
March 1, 2010 at 4:58 pm
The great thing about Mitch is he would cause things to happen. And sometimes someone who has proven that they’re going to force shit to happen is necessary.
Hell in his first 2 years he got Indiana to go to daylight savings time…we had argued over that since the majority of the country went to that system.
Mitch is pragmatic and a business man – we need someone who knows how to cut and kill projects as much as keep them alive.
My Man Mitch! for the win. :D I doubt he runs for Pres, but it’s a nice dream.
-A Hopeful Hoosier
March 1, 2010 at 4:58 pm
Mitch Daniels who? You mean the guy who looks like an elf?
I don’t think so, Mr. NYTimes.
Why would a Republican listen to anything written by that toilet paper?
March 1, 2010 at 8:10 pm
Tamara, tell em sister!
March 1, 2010 at 5:10 pm
The guy who leased our toll road to a foreign country…the guy who cuts funding for education above all else?? No thanks..
March 1, 2010 at 5:12 pm
PS- Daylight savings time in Indiana sucks..no one really wanted it.. now we in South Bend area who live closer to Chicago than New York are an hour ahead of Chicago time… Daniels went for what the donors wanted and not what the people wanted..
March 1, 2010 at 5:34 pm
I wanted DST and am glad we have finally joined the modern world in observing it. Your criticism is directed toward the time zone we chose, not the decision to observe DST. The people in the eastern part of the state (many of whom work in or do business in Ohio) would have had the same problem if we had chosen to be on central time. And, education was the last thing the Daniels adminstration cut — after looking everwhere else they could to address the budget shortfalls.
March 1, 2010 at 10:01 pm
And there are many people who live in Valparaiso that work across the time zones..it really does affect them as well. Education should not be cut period as it is bad enough already.
March 1, 2010 at 5:43 pm
Did the curtains fade?
Sorry, I find it silly that people are against DST.
If everyone else is on DST then times actually remain the same.
March 1, 2010 at 5:20 pm
He is a true capitalist.. get the government OUT of things the private sector could do better.
He wants the lottery to be private too.
March 1, 2010 at 10:02 pm
He is a Washington insider who worked for Bush, etc.
March 1, 2010 at 8:51 pm
For 3. 8 BILLION…
The toll road was a loser before.. now it made 3.8 BILLION dollars for Indiana.
March 1, 2010 at 10:04 pm
Yeah 3.8 Billion from a foreign country! It took away a lot of jobs from Hoosiers..in case you haven’t noticed..the road is still just as bad and they have installed machines to do the work that people used to get paid to do..
March 1, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Does anyone post over at RedState? It seems Erick Erickson (who seems to be a good guy) is falling for this trap/crap. He already came out for Daniels. Weak, really weak.
Hillbuzz is absolutely right with this one, the MSM builds up and then they destroy. At least with Palin, she has already been through the ringer, and I can’t imagine what they have on her considering they have thrown EVERYTHING under the sun. They are exhausting their ammo with her. Plus, we KNOW she can handle it, while these other guys, I bet they fold under the pressure, and hand it over to Obama for a 2nd term.
March 1, 2010 at 5:18 pm
They like him because he isnt running.
I dont know how many times Mitch Daniels needs to say that.
Probably once it is clear he means what he says and wont run.. they can say.. “Well, there best candidate didnt run”
He is a good governor.. does it matter what he looks like? He would be a great President but he has no desire to run so it doesnt matter.
March 1, 2010 at 5:45 pm
That is what I heard…. that he was not interested in running… but apparently he has not fully closed the door.
I do not know anything about the man… only what others are saying about him.
March 1, 2010 at 6:21 pm
Well he has a sense of humor. The other day on the radio he said “every morning I look in the mirror and I don’t see anyone who should be president”.
March 1, 2010 at 8:44 pm
He only said he was leaving the door open a crack to get people to stop asking.
He is funny.. after Chicago lost the Olympics.. he said “what is the world coming to when Chicago cant fix an election!”
He isnt running.. his wife HATES politics.. hated living in DC when he worked for Bush.. and didnt even want to live in the Governors mansion here.. she wanted to live at home.
March 1, 2010 at 5:43 pm
The latest I saw/heard from him was that he would at least consider running. He has not ruled it out, but Kristi is right in that he has been and remains very reluctant to do so.
The only MSM trap that comes to mind is Daniels’ association with GWB’s administration. He was director of the OMB during W’s first term. He also has ties to the pharmaceutical industry (VP at Lilly before the stint in the Bush administration). So, if Daniels were the candidate, the left could resurrect the old “blame Bush” meme and paint Daniels as just another heartless, evil big business republican.
The other skeletons in his closet (divorced and then remarried the same woman, arrested for marijuana (??) use in his youth) have all been addressed — though not on a national scale.
March 1, 2010 at 6:58 pm
Yeah, I’m considering a run also except I can’t find my birth certificate.
March 1, 2010 at 8:44 pm
haheheheheheheehe
March 1, 2010 at 6:03 pm
Why are so many independents characterized as “Republican-leaning”?
Because they are NOT Republicans.
And they are not Republicans because they do not want to be identified with the assortment of weak, nice guy losers who run the party.
March 1, 2010 at 6:18 pm
ISN’T IT AMAZING!
All the Lamestream Media latch on to the same lame GOPers in lock-step almost as though following Obama House issued talking points and marching orders.
Oh my bad.
They are! They are!
snark snark (for the snark impaired)
March 1, 2010 at 6:43 pm
My thoughts regarding the 2012 election are that anyone who wants to run, should run. The purpose of the primaries is to have the candidates battle it out to see who we should ultimately send to the Big Show. So, I have no problem with people throwing their names around or making waves in furtherance of that potential run.
What I do have a problem with is the media and the beltway pundits telling us who can or cannot win, let alone run. When last I checked, their vote counted the same as my vote or your vote. Oh sure, they can claim to have seen it all or heard it all but actually, no they haven’t. This isn’t 2000, 2004 or hell even 1980. This presidential election coming up in 2012 will be different. There are new rules. Before you could count on at least some of the media doing actual reporting and “vetting” the candidates. You could count on the children of candidates being seen but being left alone. You could count on pundits, entertainers and journalists at least maintaining a shred of decency towards the players involved.
Those rules were not only ignored during the 2008 election but strangled and spit on. I haven’t voted for a Democrat before and didn’t plan on voting for either Mrs. Clinton or Mr. Obama, but I remember watching the coverage of the two by the media and getting madder and madder about the way Mrs. Clinton was treated compared to Mr. Obama. I remember angrily defending her against remarks about her appearance or the sound of her voice. Had she been elected President I would to this day complain about her policies but I would never fear her trying to move the United States towards the socialist European model. Mrs. Clinton was treated terribly and when Mrs. Palin arrived on the scene the terrible treatment increased tenfold.
I felt no sense of turning a historical corner when we elected the first black president because to get to that point we had to viciously attack and tear down two women. This nation showed an ugly side of itself in 2008. Part of me wants to throw my hands up in disgust and resign myself to the thought that we will never have a woman President because no matter who will run in the future, she will never be good enough.
But then I got to thinking: It isn’t about getting a woman elected. It’s about getting the best person for this awesomely powerful job. I don’t mean that in the Twilight infatuated 12 girl sense. I mean this job is not for the weak willed or untested person. No candidate will ever be perfect or fulfill all our hopes. The person I am looking for is someone who knows his strengths and weaknesses, who is strong enough to stand up to our most vicious enemies and his own party when they go astray. Someone who knows the American people are not children but adults and that he works for them not the other way around.
Whomever the candidate is needs to be able to take on a Chicago raised team that will have the media and Hollywood behind them. Who will have the benefit of incumbancy and a mighty campaign war chest. Whomever this person is will need to have fought this Administration when it was unpopular to do so. When faced with a daily barrage of insults this person will have to have kept moving forward. Who didn’t sit on the sidelines but jumped right into the battle. That person will be the best candidate to send to the Big Show.
And I think we all know that person should be.
You betcha.
March 1, 2010 at 6:52 pm
The closing paragraph bought it all home, it was very effective.
March 1, 2010 at 8:06 pm
Agreed. Whoever wants to run in the primaries should be encouraged to do so. This way ideas can be exchanged and discussed and a viable platform created. Thats said, Sarah Palin should choose Allen West as her VP running mate once she gets the nomination.
March 1, 2010 at 11:44 pm
I’ll second that motion.
March 1, 2010 at 6:45 pm
I think the main thing that Mitch Daniels has that the LSM is cheering for is his penis. They are that terrified of Sarah. If there is even a whiff that another Republican is thinking of running, they are off and running extolling all the virtues.
I would vote for Daniels, but I would not actively participate in the campaign, like I plan to with Sarah.
March 1, 2010 at 7:37 pm
I don’t think that the MSM has anything on Mitch Daniels.
They just think that he is a boring weak candidate that Barry could easily beat. They might be right about that. I can’t see conservatives getting fired up for Mitch Daniels.
March 1, 2010 at 8:58 pm
In 2009, Hoosiers had an average property tax cut of more than 30 percent; a total of $870 million in relief was provided. Beginning this year, homeowner property taxes will be capped at 1 percent of a home’s assessed value, apartments and agriculture land will be capped at 2 percent of assessed value, and business property will be capped at 3 percent of assessed value. Once fully implemented, the plan delivers $1.72 in tax cuts for each $1 of new sales tax.
In 2006, Indiana entered into an agreement to lease the operation of the Indiana Toll Road for 75 years in exchange for $3.8 billion.
Governor Mitch Daniels directed the $3.8 billion toward funding the state’s 10 year highway, road and bridge building plan. Indiana remains the only state in the nation with a fully-funded 10 year transportation and infrastructure plan.
More than $867 million will be spent on Major Moves projects in 2007.
In 2008, $1.2 billion was spent on Major Moves transportation & infrastructure projects in Indiana
In 2006, the first year of the 10-year plan, $743 million was spent on Major Moves projects.
In FY 2005, prior to Major Moves, only $244 million was spent in major construction, major preservation and resurfacing projects.
Indiana now ranks #1 in international investment in the country in 2007 (Forbes Report, July 2007).
Mitch took the previous administration’s $200 million deficit to a $1.4 billion surplus.
Indiana’s credit rating was just increased to AAA (the highest possible rating) because of the state’s improved management and expected budget surpluses. This is the first time in Indiana’s history to receive the AAA rating.
In his first year as governor he was able to get 485 businesses to commit to creating more than 60,000 new jobs and invest $14.5 billion into the Indiana economy. Unemployment has dropped during his governorship with 100,000 more Indiana residents being employed than before he was elected.
In 2007, Governor Daniels signed landmark health care legislation, called the Healthy Indiana Plan, that provides 132,000 uninsured Hoosiers with coverage. The plan promotes health screenings, early prevention services, smoking cessation, and entrusts Hoosiers to become value-conscious consumers of health care. It also provides tax credits for small businesses that create qualified wellness and Section 125 plans. The plan was paid for by an increase in the state’s tax on cigarettes.
March 1, 2010 at 10:11 pm
That’s why Elkhart County has had the highest unemployment rate in the nation..and why the toll road is run by a foreign country (for 75 years no less) there were no US countries that could do this? Also what about the horrid numbers of illegal aliens that are living in Indiana and ruining this state? He has done nothing to stop them…but we get it Kristi..your stuck on Mitch!!
March 2, 2010 at 7:01 am
I think he is a good governor.
Maybe the foriegn country was the highest bidder… that foriegn country employs how many Hoosiers? Its not like a foriegn company desnt put Hoosiers to work on the toll road.
He isnt running for President.
I get it.. you dont like him.
March 1, 2010 at 10:19 pm
The person taking the lead in pushing Mitch Daniels on the conservative side is George Will.
The purpose of his recent article stating that Sarah Palin could not win was to slow down her momentum, while creating a window of opportunity for Daniels.
Following his lead, there was an article by Fred Barnes in the Weekly Standard pushing Daniels last week:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/man-plan-mitch-daniels
(He was picking up on an interview that Daniels gave to the Editorial Board of the Christian Science Monitor.)
Then we had this blog post earlier today in the Weekly Standard:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/mitch-daniels-mania-sweeping-nation
We also had this op-ed in today’s Wall Street Journal:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB20001424052748704231304575091600470293066.html
In addition see this laudatory blog piece in the National Review Online
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ODE5ZWM5MTJiMjJiMzgxZTNlNTBmZDMzZTU2Zjg4N2E=
(Also Erik Erickson of Red State came out over the weekend in support of Mitch Daniels.)
But, see this piece in the New Yorker:
http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/georgepacker/2010/03/mitch-daniels.html
Mitch Daniels, was George W. Bush’s Director of Office of Management and Budget from 2001-2003. While in this role he helped the Bush / Cheney administration hide the cost of the Iraq war, and implement Bush’s fiscal policies that turned the Clinton era surpluses into Bush era deficits.
Hmm … can you hear it now? The GOP nominee was the chief architecht of the fiscal policies which hid the cost of the Iraq war, while driving up the deficits. How can he be trusted? Blah, blah, blah.
Yes, Daniels has been a very competent Governor and these strengths would serve him well at the Federal level.
But, the Democrats and ultimately the Liberal Media Establishment will tie Daniels to the failed fiscal policies of the Bush administration and therein lies the rub.
So, beware of gift horses from the liberal media establishment.
Besides, the only conservative political figure who has “it” is Governor Palin.
March 1, 2010 at 10:30 pm
In my post I wrote:
“Yes, Daniels has been a very competent Governor and these strengths would serve him well at the Federal level.”
That is the “story line” being put out by his supporters. However, as others have noted, some of his decisions leave him vunerable, including high rates of unemployment, along with the toll road lease back deal and I am sure there are other “concerns.”
However, separate and apart from his being portrayed by the Liberal media establishment as a Republican Brahmin, who has no heart; the other area of difficulty is the direct tie to the Bush/Cheney administration and how independents will respond to the predictable lines of attack from the Obama administration and their progressive friends in the liberal media establishment.
March 2, 2010 at 7:07 am
He has been Governor since 2004.
Independants here like Mitch Daniels.
Indiana, compared to other states… our unemployment isnt as bad. Indiana has a 3 billion dollar surplus.
March 1, 2010 at 10:37 pm
This image conveys the wrong message, that of irresistible force. it should project one of weakness
And who can recognize them ?
March 2, 2010 at 12:31 am
I’m continually amazed at the stupidity of the republican party. They remind me of a friend, let’s call her “Daisy Mae.” Daisy Mae was dating a lying snake for years. She and her “boyfriend” were keeping their relationship quiet until the right time to go public. One day, I visit Daisy Mae and she’s in tears. It seems that over the weekend, her boyfriend had married someone else. Several people told her that they had attended his wedding and his new bride was this wonderful person. The Lying Snake told her that everyone else was lying. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and asked who should she believe? My response “are you fracking kidding me?” It’s scary how people lie to themselves and don’t let facts bother them at all. So, the so-called smart politicos always, ALWAYS fall for the drive-by-media’s BS. I have never heard of Mitch Daniels but now he’s a front runner for 2012. Why don’t we save time and just run McCain again?

What has Dr Utopia been whining and moaning for the last year? It’s BOOOOOOsh’s fault.
They seem to think if they can get Daniels in there, they can return to “Eeeeevil McHalliburton BusHitler !!!!eleventy!!!1!!!”
Will it work in ’12? I don’t think so, but almighty G-d alone knows what they’re thinking.
