Today was a busy day for us, and at a Martin Luther King Day event we ran into someone who works for Mark Kirk’s campaign here in Chicago.
Kirk is running for the GOP nomination, even though no Republican we know supports him because of his vote in favor of Cap & Tax, and every Democrat we know is itching to hit Kirk with all manner of embarrassing revelations in a general election campaign (including, we’ve been told, plans by the Giannoulias campaign to demand a military investigation into Kirk, for apparently violating DADT in relation to his living situation in Washington, DC as a Congressman from Illinois).
Here’s another reason Kirk should not be the GOP nominee, because he would hand the Senate seat to Giannoulias: his staff are Eeyores.
“Oh, there’s no way Scott Brown is going to win in Massachusetts tomorrow”, the Kirk staffer said. “You can’t beat the Democrat machine, so no matter what, they are going to use fraud and dead voters to win, so it’s not worth getting our hopes up”.
Do you have any idea how stunning this is — coming from someone who is getting paid a lot of money to work for a man running for Senate in another “blue state”, Illinois?
If Kirk’s own staff are defeatists who think “there’s no way to stop the machine in Massachusetts”, then how on Earth are they going to “stop the machine in Illinois”.
Republicans, we keep telling you this and hope to goodness you listen one of these days: stop running fatally flawed candidates who don’t even believe they can win. Stop running crazy people. Stop running people who are being blackmailed by the Left. Stop running people who have secrets that will destroy them. Stop running candidates whose staff are Eeyores.
You need more Scott Browns…fewer Mark Kirks.
There is STILL time to stop a nightmare from happening that lands Alexi Giannoulias, scion of the mob banking family, in the Senate.
You have to do better than Mark Kirk. You just have to.
PLEASE, someone listen to us while there is still time to avert disaster.

The Tea Party people are backing Hughes. What are your thoughts on that? We can work the phones, donate as we are able and do all that we can to get his name out there.

Red State as well…
http://www.redstate.com/erick/2010/01/11/patrick-hughes-v-mark-kirk-illinois-may-be-a-test-case-for-the-effectiveness-of-tea-parties/
I’m also interested in the Hillboyz opinion on this.
January 18, 2010 at 11:22 pm
Someone in Chicago who has prominence and some level of power: STAND UP!
We will support you, like we did Scott Brown.
Just DO IT!!!!
From what I’ve heard, Kirk is not the guy, so FIND SOMEONE ELSE!
Chicago politics are evil. How do you break the cycle?
Tell us, Hillbuzz. I want to know.
January 18, 2010 at 11:26 pm
Who is the person we need to support? I’m in IL and looking over the list, I need some help on this one.
January 19, 2010 at 9:22 am
I’m from Illinois and did some research on the governor’s race and senator. I intend to vote for Patrick Hughes, for Senator and Adam Andrzejewski. Both are conservatives and grass-roots nominees who believe in smaller government and less taxes, etc
January 18, 2010 at 11:42 pm
I love you guys, and I cannot stand Mark Kirk. That being said, trust me — he’s not gay. No way in hell is he gay, and this sharing a house in DC is just plain dumb and inaccurate.
You guys lecture (correctly) not to fall for the Eeyores and trolls, and you are falling for it from Alexi’s gang. They don’t want Mark Kirk because he has name i.d. and he raises tons of $$ and the media loves him. Think about it logically. What would happen if Alexi’s people threw gay accusations at a Republican? Can you imagine the backlash?
Be against Mark Kirk for cap and trade or for some of his other stupid votes if you want. But quit falling for this deep, dark scandal that will brew if he gets nominated. It’s not true and silly.
I’m voting for Kirk (and believe me – I think he is a know-it-all with a Napoleon complex) because I think he will be the strongest candidate in November. We can’t keep terrifying women voters in the suburbs on the choice issue, and Patrick Hughes would get crucified for his very strong anti-choice views.
January 18, 2010 at 11:49 pm
True, I know nothing about Chicago but I believe a stand FOR Cap and Trade would be the death knell. Coz trust me, when it’s time to do a moneybomb, the same groups that inundated Brown would never do the same for Kirk if he is for the largest, job-killing tax ever proposed.

O/T (still focused on Brown). Here are where the ACORN offices are located in MA. I wonder if these locations would tend to be more rife with fraud as a result. Or, maybe not. ACORN’s reach tends to be pretty far and wide. But, for what it’s worth:

The problem is there is no really decent alternative to Kirk whom one can support.
It’s not like I am going to vote for the weasel Andy Martin (just typing his name makes my skin crawl).
I hate, hate, hate that Kirk supported Cap and trade. I won’t vote for him in the primary (I am as likely to leave that race blank) but I will hold my nose and vote for him in the general.
I have been to interested in the Brown race to pay much attention in Illinois (bad, I know). I look forward to doing my research in the next couple of weeks and being disappointed by the Illinois Republican party in new ways (they seem to be able to do it again and again).
January 19, 2010 at 4:14 am
Yeah, the Republican Party here in Illinois is abysmal.
One of the most telling examples is the Jack Ryan debacle, which ultimately gave us the zero we now have in the White House. (Did Ryan actually think that wanting to do his wife in front of strangers in a seedy sex club wouldn’t come back to bite him in the rump?) When Ryan had to bow out the party put up Alan Keyes to replace him. Now Keyes is a decent guy, actually brilliant, but he’s crazier than an outhouse rodent.
Why would the Illinois Republican leadership think Keyes was the best choice to take over the race? After careful thought I’ve come to the conclusion that there is only one possible explanation:
They’re idiots.
January 19, 2010 at 8:56 am
Okay . . . Just as the Hillbuzz Boyz don’t like anyone trashing Hillary, I don’t like anyone making false claims about then-Illinois Republican Chair Judy Baar Topinka. I love this woman. She’s the single person who motivated me to get involved in politics post-college days.
Judy asked Jack Ryan about the divorce records. She wanted to be sure that there was NOTHING in them that would harm him or the party in the election. Ryan said no. She took him at his word.
The Bush Administration pushed Keyes on the Illinois GOP. And Judy was stuck with Keyes. I heard Keyes speak at Republican Day at the Illinois State Fair. I was apalled by him. I was scheduled to do an interview with the News-Gazette of Champaign, Illinois, at the State Fair that day. You can’t imagine what sort of tap-dancing I had to do to sound positive for the GOP, all the while loathing Keyes.
But I did Judy proud and stuck to the “We Republicans need to focus on the 80 percent we are in agreement on” line.
Don’t blame Judy. She’s not an idiot. And at 60+, with a smoker’s voice, and hair the color of a British telephone booth, she’s still sexier than Michelle Obama!!!
January 19, 2010 at 9:10 am
I met her at a conference my office held in the early 80′s and she looks the same today as she did then (hair…lol).
January 19, 2010 at 3:31 pm
I said and mean idiots generically. There are many decent individuals in the Republican leadership, local, State, and national, but when they gather their collective I.Q. drops dramatically. (Personally, I like Topinka.)
I do not blame the leadership for Ryan having to drop out of the race. That’s on Ryan’s head. It is the response of the leadership I question.
The Bush Administration forced Keyes on the Illinois GOP? What, the Illinois GOP has no autonomy? No backbone? They could have said no. Things can be done with little or no help from the National GOP.
Look at Scott Brown.

Concerned Illinoisans can vote for David Hoffman against Alexi Giannoulias in the Democrat primary and then vote for Mark Kirk in the General in November. Hoffman has all the Democrat endorsements that matter and a large online following.
There will not be another viable Republican candidate to oppose Kirk at this late stage of the game, so let’s get on board with a Plan B, people: try to keep Giannoulias from winning by supporting Hoffman. (Cheryle Jackson will get a lot of the AA vote, so Giannoulias is by no means a shoe in. She seems like a decent candidate, but she won’t beat any Republican, so the majority of Democrats won’t support her.)
Plenty of moderate suburbanites will support Kirk, who does have a track record in Congress and name recognition. And Giannoulias has enough skeletons in his own closet such that the GOP can fight fire with fire if he ends up being the nominee. The “outing” game is getting old: no one cared about B.O.’s reported escapades even though he is and was married at the time.
John Arrington is a good conservative Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, but he is too new and probably has no campaign war chest. The polls would have to show him neck and neck with Kirk within the next ten days for it to be worth our vote to support him in the Republican primary instead of voting against Giannoulias in the Democrat primary.

Here’s Kirk at a recent rally:
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2010/01/mark-kirk-revs-up-cook-county-gop.html#comments
In the vid he states:
“Do you think we’re going to win Massachusetts?” to which the audience replies by cheering–which WAS the intent, BTW.
Done.
January 19, 2010 at 8:18 am
Since I live in Maryland with senators who have yet to reply to any of my letters, I am gladly calling them tomorrow to point out what happened in MA and ask them what makes them believe it will not happen here?
Oh, and when I talk to the staff, I will begin by talking with them about Former Senator Milkulski, etc.
And when I am corrected that they are the current Senator – my response will be, NOT after the next election, so get used to it and btw, I hope your resume is also updated.
A little bit of reverse eyeorism if you will.
January 19, 2010 at 8:58 am
Baby, I like your style. Damn you’re good.

Great idea! I’ll be doing the same tomorrow.

It makes one wonder if the staffers these wannabe politicians hire just need jobs (perfect fit for an eyeore)or are they really behind the candidate with their heart and soul. I’m thinking they just want the steady paycheck!
Does anyone have any thoughts about Club for Growth? They are a big money movement supporting conservative candidates such as Rubio and some others. Apparently they receive alot of money from little people like us – some that pledge money monthly. Perhaps they could get behind someone for this senate seat.

In the 40 plus year that I have been politically active. I have never witnessed such a large ground swelling of anti-candidate sentiment as I have for Mark Kirk within the Republican party. It can’t all be baseless. There is a good excuse for this backlash and dates back to the story of the Trojan Horse. You remember greek mythology about a wooden horse that everyone thought was a gift from the gods. Do you remember how it ended?
The Illinois Republican party is tryng to sell us a defective product. BEWARE: The name on the label does not match the product in the box. Don’t be fooled. Vote for Patrick Hughes. At least you’ll know what you’re getting.
