Our good friend Abbey in Cleveland called us last night and said, “You’re not going to believe this. So sit down”.
She then went on to explain that she’s making her FIRST EVER political donation today – sending $200 to Scott Brown’s campaign. Abbey has never given a cent to anyone running for office, because she says “they have enough money already and I hate most of them”. She didn’t even donate to Hillary Clinton’s campaign, though she phone banked, canvassed and helped in other ways. She didn’t even donate to Sarah Palin’s VP campaign last year, but once again she did help.
Well, Abbey’s taking part in the Scott Brown Money Bomb today.
Why?
“This man is the only thing that can stop the socialists from taking over this country. He is our last and only hope. So, I’m putting my money where my mouth is this time. $200 is all I’ve got to spare, but it’s Scott Brown’s if he wants it. I’m sending it to him so he can kick some a** in the Senate and put those damn fools on notice that Americans are not going to take their socialist crap anymore. I’m fired up, I’m donating, I want that man to beat back those socialists and get them all Hell”.
If you knew Abbey, you’d know why she told us to sit down. This is HUGE. We say this with love for one of our oldest and best friends, but Abbey is cheap, not frugal, and hates parting with money EVER. For her to donate to Scott Brown today, and take part in his money bomb, is EARTH SHAKING to us.
Apparently, everyone on the different forums and chat boards Abbey goes on is taking part in the Money Bomb today too. Abbey’s at it right now, probably, goading people to do so as well. You do not stand in Abbey’s way when she’s motivated and revved up to do something. Abbey is PISSED, she’s had it with socialism, and she is all-in for Scott Brown.
A “Money Bomb”, for those that don’t know, is a day when as many people as possible all contribute to a candidate to have one giant day of fundraising — so the candidate can crow and show his grassroots strength. It’s a big morale boost to the campaign to get a huge number like that.
We’ve got all our friends like Abbey on board with this, and hope you will join the Money Bomb today too, if you can.

So, I went to donate, and noticed at the bottom under the “Legally Required Information”, number 3. “I am not a federal government contractor”
I guess I’m not allowed to donate money???
The last thing I want to do is raise any red flags.
Anybody know more about this? I don’t usually donate, so forgive my noobness.

I saw a thread on this elsewhere over the weekend;as long as you are not a federal contractor who directly receives moneys from a specific federal agency you are fine.

PG-13 you’re fine to donate since you are an employee.
Just donate from your personal account.
Contractor would mean you have a firm you own (entrepreneur) and have contracts already with the Fed government.

For example, if you are a consultant under contract to a Federal agency, you may not contribute to Federal candidates or political committees. Or, if you are the sole proprietor of a business with a Federal government contract, you may not make contributions from personal or business funds. But, if you are merely employed by a company (or partnership) with Federal government contracts, you are permitted to make contributions from your personal funds.”

What if you are a graduate student paid through a federal grant? Officially I am a research assistant, but my advisor has grants with the NSF. The university writes my paychecks – I have no idea if I am far enough removed from that federal money!! I also think I am considered a state employee since this is a public institution.

My mother ( who passed away nearly 6 years ago) was born and raised in MA & she hated Ted Kennedy with a passion that knew no bounds, so I just donated $35 to Scott Brown in her honor. She would have been all for breaking the “Kennedy Monopoly” on that senate seat and getting a Republican in it that can derail this healthcare monstrosity!I also posted the link and the pitch for campaign contributions to Scott as my Facebook status. This does not bode well for this years elections.(for the Dems) The thing that should be obvious, but for some reason it is NOT, is that the other side is NOT bending over backward to make sure the healthcare bill is passed. If people want it, as is always claimed, it seems they’d want to counter Brown’s surge with an outpour of money.

They thought Coakley was a totally done deal. If Brown’s campaign never got a hint of legs and she won by 20 points, no one would even twitch. Business as usual in MA.
But if they’re sending Bill Clinton, the DNC’s press secretary and big gun Senators to throw a fundraiser for this woman tomorrow night, all at the last minute, there is panic in the ranks.

This is my first time posting to anyone’s blog….ever! I discovered yours, just a month or so ago. I also have never contributed to anyones campaign before, but after reading about Scott, I contributed last week, and then again today!
It is so important for him to win this seat. We know that they will push healthcare through, then on to card check, immigration, etc.
We all know that Dingy Harry will be gone in November, as well as other Democrats. They will stop at nothing to get their Socialist agenda through before then, and at brakeneck speed. They must be stopped.
Isn’t it ironic that it’s in MA where we can have another shot that was heard around the world?

Hopefully HB can keep up the pressure to help Scott Brown right up until the very last moment.
Regardless of Brown’s close numbers in the PPP poll, it’s going to be a tough one. If Brown wins, I imagine it will be by a very thin margin.
People need to do whatever they can. Contact friends and family in the state. Contact friends who have friends or family in the state. Get them to make phone calls. Get them excited about going to the polls.

I gave $100 and that’s only the second time I have ever donated to a candidate. The first time was to Lieberman after the Dems dumped him and he ran as in independent. I admired his courage and thought he deserved it. This time it’s just plain critical for Brown to win and hopefully shut down this health care shambles.

I will be donating. Life-long dem whose first time voting for a pub was for John Mccain. I will also be heading up to Mass. to hlepget the vote out. Volunteering for Hillary’s campaign, then John M’s was a lot of fun and a great experience, if you have never volunteered for a campaign, the time is now. You will love it. Agreed. Volunteering for a campaign, believe it or not, is so much fun. First, its very social, you get to meet so many fun and interesting people. Imagine, not having to argue with a soul! They all agree with you!
Second, you feel very good about yourself. You feel like you are helping society, and your children (if you have any).
Third, the atmosphere is electric (esp. if its a campaign like Brown’s and its winning!).
Fourth, its historic. You can tell your friends, kids, buddies, whoemever, that you were there the day MA finally elected a Republican Senator, or that you were instrumental in the effort.

Well, I have done it! I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law. I was frankly concerned that parts of the proposed law that were being discussed might be unconstitutional. What I found was far worse than what I had heard or expected. To begin with, much of what has been said about the law and its implications is in fact true, despite what the Democrats and the media are saying. The law does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical > profession. The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business and put everyone into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled. However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated. If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed. The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people and the businesses they own. The irony is that the Congress doesn’t have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with. I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care. *This legislation also provides for access by the appointees of the Obama administration of all of your personal healthcare information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide. * *If you decide not to have healthcare insurance or if you have private insurance that is not deemed “acceptable” to the “Health Choices Administrator” appointed by Obama there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a “tax” instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However, that doesn’t work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the “due process of law. So, there are three of those pesky amendments that the far left hate so much out of the original ten in the Bill of Rights that are effectively nullified by this law. It doesn’t stop there though. The 9th Amendment that provides: “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people;” The 10th Amendment states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are preserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” Under the provisions of this piece of Congressional handiwork neither the people nor the states are going to have any rights or powers at all in many areas that once were theirs to control. I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. *This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights. Article 6 of the Constitution requires the members of both houses of Congress to “be bound by oath or affirmation” to support the Constitution. If I was a member of Congress I would not be able to vote for this legislation or anything like it without feeling I was violating that sacred oath or affirmation. If I voted for it anyway I would hope the American people would hold me accountable. For those who might doubt the nature of this threat I suggest they

I was right there bashing Steele for not supporting Brown. However, if any of you read that PPP poll/memo, they WANT to link Brown to the national republicans, and drive down his favorables. He even said as much he doesn’t want to be beholden to anyone- stressing his independence. So, this might work in his favor.
However, as Marybeth stated, the RNC should help in the aftermath, to prevent another MN scenerio ever happening again.

I would not say he is pro-choice. He says that Roe V Wade is settled law and should not be overturned. He is opposed to partial birth abortion and to federally funding for abortion. That is as much pro-life as a politician can get away with in Massachusetts.

I really do think that as more Americans get to know and see her, more Americans will grow to like her. She’s also getting more and more comfortable on TV. I think with her, people too often mistake nerves and lack of media experience for stupidity, unfortunately. I think the previous comment about experience will help with some of that. She is very, very smart. The problem I perceive is that she has been able to disarm opponents with her “perceived inadequacy” and frequently turned the table on them very sharply because she is not inadequate at all. I’ve been unemployed for awhile, but I was able to scrounge what little I could to donate to Scott Brown today.
Last Saturday I volunteered to make calls in MA for Scott Brown, and I was encouraged by all the positive comments I received. Folks in MA are fed up with the political landscape. 8 out of 10 peeps I called said they are voting for Brown.
I will be making more calls this week.

I couldn’t have it on long, but I had C-span on for a few minutes. There was on spot where Brown was talking and he said something like “this is where I differ from Mrs Coakley” or something like that… the camera panned to her right then and she had a smirk on her face that make me sick. If they are going to show that smirk showing up for much of this debate.. well.. it sure would turn me against voting for her if I lived in MA. She had her head tossed back arrogantly and just smirked at him… What a JERK…

I told her my story – that, in my unemployment, I’ve basically been running an unofficial political action committee out of my NYC apt, gone alone to 3 protests against this administration/massive spending/etc. (2 in DC, one in NYC), and would relish any opportunity to sit in a room with like-minded New Yorkers. My plea must have worked – I was added to the list an am now attending! So in case you check back in on these comments – I just wanted to thank you so much for bringing this event to my attention.

I just received an email from John McCain’s group, evidently he is supporting Brown. In the email was a link to a page that lets you sign up to GOTV in MA and provides food and lodging to those who do. The message is below but I don’t know how to get the link to work. Hope this hasn’t already been posted.
“If you are available to volunteer from Friday, January 15th through January 19th please follow this link to fill out the online application the Brown campaign has provided. They will then contact you with further information. The campaign will provide volunteers who are willing to help with these essential GOTV efforts with food and lodging for Jan 15th through the 20th.”

Indiegirl, I have to make that same judgment every time I vote. I think I actually voted for Ron Paul in ’88 or ’92, but by 2004 I was punching the card for R’s because I couldn’t support the overly-pacifist D’s. (9/11 turned me into a “security mom” and that NEVER goes away.)

Notice what Brown said the issue was. There was an amendment to a bill on providing emergency contraception after a rape that would allow individual providers and religious institutions as a matter of conscience to refuse to provide services that VIOLATED THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. Unbelievably, Coakley seems to believe that THE GOVERNMENT HAS THE POWER TO COMPEL AN INDIVIDUAL TO ACT AGAINST THEIR RELIGIOUS CREED. The usual rationale for this is that the government licenses doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers. If we follow this to its likely conclusion, the government could compel a government licensed physician to commit euthanasia. This is a First Amendment issue and one we should all watch closely. Particularly in light of the proposed government take over of our healthcare.

I’ve been away from the laptop all day – and am delighted to hear/see that the Brown Campaign is going to go over $1 million – in one day…from small donors!!
I added to my green team bona fides today by donating again. This time $41. At this rate we’ll all be maxing out before the election! And who could complain – it’s for the best of all of us. This family will be making phone calls tomorrow. And I continue working on my Jersey accent. I don’t want to distract voters with pronouncing words like Cawfee.

Sen. Nelson has put a provision in the Reid health care bill that would exempt any cuts in Medicare Advantage from affecting Dade, Broward and Palm Beachcounties.
The rest of the state you ask? Tough. Now I am not in favor of the Bill anyway, but to have our senator so favor a section of the state that tends to support him is just outright political corruption. Apparently, this section of the bill was included in one of the closed door meetings and buried on page 894 of the 2,000 plus page bill.

Ace of Spades is self-described as a military blog, and in fact lots of current and ex-military post comments there. They are conservative/libertarian in orientation, at least that’s how I see it. The conversations regarding foreign and military policy in the comments sections can be pretty amazing.
They use the term “military porn” a bit, and their epithets for Utopia are some of the best anywhere.
Their commenters are extremely sharp, very very funny, and refer to themselves as M&Ms, for Moronettes and Morons. Anything outside of racism, homophobia and a few choice curses involving reproductive organs is pretty much tolerated there- as such, it can get a bit rough. Hilarious, but rough.
For my money Ace of Spades and the Buzz are doing this blog stuff better than anyone else these days, by a long shot.

Good for you, flag girl! When you get back I have another big project for you in Virginia. I wish there was some way to directly communicate with some of you from Virginia. There is something interesting, and possibly quite meaningful on a national level getting ready to happen next week in the General Assembly. There is a bill in the House of Delegates to deny any law that requires people to purchase any kind of health or medical insurance or service in Virginia. I heard its sponsor tonight at a seminar and he called it an attempt to have a direct confrontation with the Utopia Administration on the health care bills. It is expected to pass the Va. House, but the Va. Senate is not on board yet. That’s what we need to work on. Apparently other states’ legislators are talking about this, too, but VA’s legislature gets an early start, so has an opportunity to start the ball rolling across the country. Come on back and help after you get Scott Brown elected!

[SNIP] I sat next to a union worker who was making calls for Brown. He told me that most of the unions (with the exception of SEIU and a couple others) have been strangely silent. Usually the union leaders will push a particular candidate, but he said it was strange that nothing had been passed out about this election. He also said that union members are really upset with the tax on health care benefits, and he would not be surprised to see many individual union members vote for Brown.

I don’t get why no one seems to think about their children when considering these issues. Or will their benefits be grandfathered in some way? I don’t get how everything is about what happens this minute and not further down the road. Eventually their babies–even our not so estimable congress persons’ babies–will have to live under this totalitarian nightmare w/o benefit of special deals.
Not trying to be a downer. I am ecstatic about Brown’s Explosive Funding Bomb.
