Photoshop Challenge: Jokerize all 60 Democrats in the Senate

Posted at December 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

H/t Katie for the great job...just 58 more needed!

We love that Missourians have Jokerized Claire McCaskill and images of her as the Joker are appearing all over the state.  The same needs to be done to every single Democrat voting for the Heatlhcare Rationing Bill.

The reason we are so up in arms about this is the way this legislation was handled:  no bill this important, with nation-changing provisions, should be crafted in secret and voted on in the dead of night in the face of great public outrage.

There are 60 Democrats who are voting to cut off debate so this monstrosity can be shoved through the Senate before Christmas.

This is wrong.

It is a bill too important to not be debated properly, to not consider the public’s wishes on.  Every Democrat in the Senate has the opportunity to do the right thing and vote against this so that a new bill could be crafted, out in the open, with complete transparency and none of the bribes worked in for Chris Dodd, Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu and others.

As we have stated before, we do not believe anyone who votes for this monstrosity should be re-elected.  That means we’re going to have to start opposing people we’ve long supported.

So be it.

We consider it a dereliction of their duties to allow Harry Reid to force this through the Senate in the dead of night.  Any one of these people have the opportunity to do the right thing and stop this madness…so if they insist on voting party lines, then they all become Jokers like McCaskill.

From this week forward, Joker photos thus should be the only things ever used for any of them.

Reports from Schakowsky and Durbin offices in Illinois

Posted at December 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

We highly encourage you to not just make phone calls to tell your Congressional delegations how upset you are with the way the Senate’s Healthcare Rationing bill has been handled, but to actually go to your Congress members’ and Senators’ field offices near you and tell them in person how disgusted you are.

Even if these people are committed Liberals who don’t give a damn about you or what you think, you can still rattle their staff and hopefully, if enough people out there do this, make the staff ultimately put the fear of God into the Congress critters and Senators.

Today, we went to Jan Schakowsky’s field office on Broadway here in Chicago and Dick Durbin’s Senate field office…we wanted to hit Roland Burris’ and Goveror Quinn’s offices, too, but ran out of time.

Obviously, we weren’t expecting to be treated nicely or even listened to by these people.  We’ve dealt with Schakowsky before, and have told you that she, personally, and her entire staff are rude, nasty, and imperious people.  There is no better word to describe them than vile.  Schakowsky ran a skeleton crew today, and we didn’t get any further than the reception desk.  No staffer would meet with us in a conference room, despite our insistance that as our Congressional rep, her staff has an obligation to. We were told, repeatedly, that “Congresswoman Schakowsky wins this district with 80% of the vote.  She runs unopposed in the primaries.  It doesn’t matter how mad you are, she’s never going to lose her seat so you coming here doesn’t matter. She supports this bill, Democrats all support this bill, this is a Democrat seat so there’s nothing else to say about this”.

This is the attitude Schakowsky’s staff always has.  It’s like dealing with Madame Du Barry’s retainers…Schakowsky is the very epitome of entitlement, with an intense disdain for the general public.  She also happens to be married to convicted felon Robert Creamer, who went on a bank fraud and check kiting crime spree earlier this decade, and served a stint in federal prison for it.  Currently, he’s at his Congresswoman wife’s side, working with her on the Democrats’ Healthcare Rationing push (a plan he worked on while in prison, actually).

Dick Durbin’s office showed more class and the receptionist was at least polite, but we didn’t get a meeting with his staff either.  They were, however, stunned the public’s coming forward to express outrage.  It didn’t appear this happens much in the federal office building downtown.  Schakowsky’s office is right on a main street in Chicago, with a door opening right onto the street, so more people seem to stop by randomly.

Neither office appeared to appreciate the public stopping by to tell them how terrible they are.

We believe if this became a daily occurance for them, the staff wouldn’t be able to handle it.  Phones were ringing like crazy in the background in both offices, and the staff seemed frazzled and harried, definitely on edge.

We’re telling you, if a massive national effort was made in every state to keep showing up at these offices, it would drive these people crazy.

Jan Schakowsky, Robert Creamer, and Dick Durbin have not won yet.  We plan on going back again and again in the days ahead, with as many people as we can, making it clear Democrats have really crossed a line this time.

Whatever you think of the Healthcare Rationing Bill, as an American you should be upset about the way this was all handled.  This legislation was written in secret and is being passed in the dead of night.  There has been no debate, no transparency, and no consideration for what the public wants.  These are aristocrats ruling by fiat, working off plans drawn up by a felon in prison.

Democrats like Schakowsky insist their seats are safe and that no matter what they do they’ll always win re-election for as long as they want.  In Illinois, the GOP rarely mounts any sort of actual challenge to this woman. It’s a damn shame, because she’s so terrible at everything she does if the election was actually contested by someone decent she’d probably lose.

The GOP in Illinois, however, can’t seem to wrap it’s head around this.

Mystery of the Day: Why isn't Rudy Giuliani running for Senate or NY Governor?

Posted at December 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

We have a friend in Florida with whom it is always Giuliani this, and Giuliani that. He loves this man and would probably go gay for him if Rudy ever asked.  On this we most definitely agree to disagree.

Personally, we have never in our lives liked this man. He became a weird national hero after 9/11, when we never felt he deserved to be:  the Giuliani administration repeatedly refused to buy the police and fire departments the radio equipment they wanted that would have cut down on the miscommunication between the two branches…and miscommunication and faulty radios led to more deaths than they should have on that awful day.  Giuliani also located the NYC emergency response center in the Trade Center, which was beyond foolish after the complex was already attacked once in 1993.  Giuliani has always surrounded himself with the most blatant and shameless crooks — more so than even the current president.  And then there’s what he did to his wife Donna Hanover: telling the mother of his children he’s divorcing her in a press conference.  And that was after using city resources to squire his mistress Judith around — a woman who worked as a surgical sales rep ripping puppies’ stomachs open so she could demonstrate new advances in sutures.

Our friend in Florida doesn’t care about any of this, and is a Giuliani fan and always will be.  So, we respect that.  We’ve just never felt, nationally, that voters would be so forgiving of him. We also think the GOP base would sit a national election out, in greater numbers than they did with McCain, if Giuliani was ever on a ticket.  No man who’s ever appeared willingly in drag will get the conservatives to support him in an election.  Hear that, Charlie Crist?

But, Giuliani could have taken Kirsten Gillibrand out in 2010.  We have no doubt he would have won that race.  Because of Gillibrand’s support for the Healthcare Rationing bill, we no longer care what happens to her…and though we would never campaign to  help Giuliani, we do want to see every Democrat voting for the Rationing Bill to be booted from the Senate with great prejudice by voters.

So, why isn’t Giuliani running?

Why is he letting Rick Lazlo take the governor’s race (where Lazlo will most surely lose)?

In our gut, it feels like Giuliani’s cancer is back…and he doesn’t have a lot of time left and knows it.  He was here in Chicago recently for an event and looked like death walking.  We hope that’s not the case, but for an ambitious man to give up the chance to add “Senator” to his resume with relatively little effort, SOMETHING big must be happening behind the scenes.

There are a lot of people who aren’t getting into races in 2010 that would seem to have easy walks of it.  Maybe they don’t want to be in office having to deal with the next wave of economic disasters on the horizon.  It will NOT be an easy time to govern in the next few years, that’s for sure.

But Giuliani’s decision with the Senate seat is the real head-scratcher, because he could have easily taken the Senate seat for two years, then not run for re-election in 2012 when the seat’s up for grabs again.  He would have received a Congressional pension from that, and would have won the title “Senator Giuliani” for the rest of his life.

Why pass that up?

We wonder.

Every Democrat who votes to ration healthcare is a Joker

Posted at December 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

This image should be put everywhere possible throughout Missouri for the next two years

VIA GatewayPundit

Claire McCaskill, the second worst Senator alive today, is stirring rebellion in Missouri.

Across the state, images of Claire Bear as The Joker are popping up…caused by Missourians angry at her refusal to stop the government rationing of healthcare through Harry Reid’s dead of night, top secret, forced legislation.

Every single Democrat voting for this monstrous bill is a Joker.

This is not how legislation should be passed.  This is not the American way.  This is how the Soviet Union and banana republics operated.

McCaskill is not up for re-election until 2012, but we hope Missouri does not forget what she has done by then.

We are all Batman today…and need to work hard to put McCaskill and her band of thugs out of business in 2010, 2012, and 2014…until every last one of The Gang of 60 is defeated.

Every. Last. One. Of. Them.

********

UPDATE:  Some of you wonder why Claire McCaskill is now just the Second-Worst Living Senator.  Previously, she has been listed as the Worst Living Senator in our book.  Harry Reid, in our opinion, nudged her out of her title a few weeks back when he started calling opponents of Healthcare Rationing RAAACISTS, and said that opposing what he was doing with this secret, middle of the night legislation was tantamount to supporting slavery.  That is so wrong, so inappropriate, and so patently INSANE that we couldn’t help but list him as the Worst of the Worst.  McCaskill will, no doubt, regain her title in November 2010 when Reid is booted from office…and she will retain that title until she, too, is removed from the Senate in 2012.

Question of the Day: Is America Worth Fighting For?

Posted at December 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

You need to ask yourself this question: Is America worth fighting for?

We can’t answer that for you.  We also won’t tell you what you need to do to stop Utopiacare from passing and destroying the country as we know it.

We can only tell you what we are going to do. Maybe it will give you ideas of your own.

In the interest of full disclosure, none of us here were involved in politics, government, public policy, fill-in-the blank, until 2007 when we all started volunteering for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.  We’d done little things for candidates before, and had worked on a few campaigns, but that was 10% of our energy — something we did as a hobby.  In the last two years, however, this has all overtaken our lives, occupying 95% of what we do.  It has consumed all of our free time.  All of our money goes into political-related activity.  All of our reading time’s spent on policy books, magazines, and websites.  Why?  Because in 2007 we realized the Liberals in this country were plotting to destroy our nation and render us some sort of third world banana republic.  That was the goal starting in 2004 when they began the Obama campaign moments after Kerry conceded defeat to Bush.

This is a years-long plan on their part, funded by George Soros, to cripple and destroy this country.

They are counting on the fact that most Americans are not “political” and think it’s a waste of time to be involved in this process.  They are ramming through the Utopiacare bill this week in the Senate because they know people are distracted with Christmas.  They are counting on people being too busy with the holidays to put the fear of God into them to stop this bill.

Here is what we are doing today:

* We are personally going to the offices of Jan Schakowsky (House), Mike Quigley (House), Dick Durbin (Senate), Roland Burris (Senate), and Pat Quinn (Governor), and will scream in the faces of their staff. We want them to see how angry the public is — and that the public knows where their offices are and intends to hold these people accountable for what they are doing this week.  Utopiacare is socialism taking over this country, written in the dead of night, passed in secret, and foisted on the people in fiat when no one is looking.  We want the local offices to call Washington and tell them people are coming to their offices SCREAMING mad about this.

* Many of you Eeyores say “they won’t listen, this does no good” and we don’t know what to say to you anymore about that.  We don’t have the energy to figure out if you are concern trolls or not, or whether you are just little rain clouds that like to sit there bemoaning how we are all doomed without getting off your damn butts to do anything about it.  Well, in hopes that we shame your sorry hides, we’re going to tell you this:  whether it does any good or not in your opinion, we are going to make sure whatever staff is working today at these offices has an experience they will never, ever forget.  We’re going to make sure they remember Monday December 21st as a day in their lives when they were screamed at by the public.  When they go home to their families for Christmas, and Aunt Tilly asks how they like working for the Congresswoman or the Senator, we want them to say, ‘Oh, man, these gay guys really let us have it on Monday…screamed in our faces…it was awful”.  We want to make these people hate working for Congress and the Senate today.  We want the Governor’s office to call the DNC and tell them he’s getting flak too.  We know for a fact these are people who hate the public, hate dealing with the public, and hate when the public comes to their door.  And we guarantee they will hate us in spades today.

* We are calling — not emailing, but CALLING — every single person in our phones today.  There are several hundred of them.  We are calling all of them and telling them what the Senate is doing this week — how it is ramming through legislation in the dead of night, rushing it for no reason, and trying to do this in secret before Christmas adjournment.  We are going to start doing this at 9am and will go until 11pm if it takes that long to call everyone: Republican, Democrat, cat, dog, people we don’t especially like and hate talking to, EVERYONE.  This is called a Round Robin.  Before the Internet and email, it’s how people got information out quickly — we think we need to go old school today and bring this back.  We are going to write down four-five sentences we want to read to everyone in our phones…telling them this country is under direct attack from Democrats this week, and that we, as lifelong Democrats, are so scared of what’s happening that we are telling everyone we know to forget about Christmas plans and PAY ATTENTION TO THE REPUBLIC COLLAPSING. Chances are, a good many people will not like that we are doing this, but who cares.  America is important to us, we love this country, and will risk it all yet again to save it.  We HATE talking on the phone, but we’re willing to do that today because we think if enough people get revved up, that WE THE PEOPLE can take this country back.  But it has to start somewhere.

We’re strarting this today.  You can sit there and twiddle and diddle and bemoan it all, or you can try to do something.  We believe in the ingenuity of the American spirit more than anything.  If the rallying cry goes out there and everyone STARTS DOING SOMETHING about this, one of us out there will come up with a way of getting through to just one vote of that 60…because if Harry Reid has only 59 votes, he won’t be able to make Utopiacare happen this week.

For that vote count to drop below 60, the Senate needs to be terrified of the greatest voter backlash in history.  For them to be so terrified, we need to scream in their faces this week, harass their offices, and rile everyone we know up about this.

We need Tea Parties to spontaneously form all across the country from now through Thursday.

If you think America is worth fighthing for, it’s time to make the awkward and intimidating leap from person who obsesses about politics and gets riled up about this stuff at home to become the big mouth with a bull horn who’s calling out to crowds and leading marches to put the fear of God into the Senate.  We’re private people who would rather be doing fun Christmas things this week instead of screaming at strangers in public, but this is what we are doing this week because it’s important.

Harry Reid has canceled Christmas.  He has put everything we know and love in great jeopardy.  And we are not going to sit by quietly while he does it.

What are you going to do?

Is America worth fighting for?

Q: Where do you stand on the Utopiacare bill? A: We will work to defeat every single Senator who votes for it

Posted at December 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Yesterday, we took time away from the Internets (that cherished series of pipes, tubes, and expressways for dumptrucks), to go off to some of our favorite spots in Chicago, sit quietly, and think. We spent most of the day in the Lurie Garden at Millennium Park, in a hidden nook near the shoulder hedge, looking at the new Modern wing of the Art Institute in the distance, watching little rabbits playing in the yellowed Karl Forrester grasses and remaining thistles and other prairie plantings the garden’s known for.  We needed that time to contemplate the enormity of the situation that faces us, because after this week, our lives are just not going to ever be the same again.

We had a similiar crisis of faith and conscience a decade or so ago, when a good friend of ours, who we’ll call Zack, accidentally killed another driver when, after too many beers, he ran a stop sign late one night.  Zack’s a good guy, and he had been a friend since childhood.  He never was someone we’d consider a drunk, and was in college at the time, home on break and having some fun (too much fun), but he should have known better than getting behind the wheel of that car. Zack’s parents were rich, and he’d always had pretty much anything he ever wanted.  We’d seen him drive recklessly before — but not drunk — and actually stopped riding with him, because he took too many chances, and played it too fast, too loose.  We knew things would catch up with him one day, and tried to stop that from happening.  When he had his car accident, in which he got banged up really bad and the other driver lost his life, it caught up with him worse than we could have ever imagined.

His parents, of course, funded an expensive defense, and we were torn as to whether we should blindly stand with our friend of many years, even when he was in the wrong and caused so much destruction, or whether we should tell Zack he needed to suffer the consequences for his actions.  The lawyers Zack’s parents hired asked some of us to give character statements talking about how responsible Zack was, and we agonized over the request.  Just like yesterday in the Lurie Garden, we found someplace quiet where we could stop and think, and spent a few days trying to decide what to do.  Never in our lives had we ever said no to a friend in need — but we couldn’t lie in those statements, pretending Zack was a model citizen, when we knew for years something terrible would come from his behavior.  We’d, in fact, tried to stop it by cajoling him to change his behavior, but he wouldn’t listen.  In the aftermath of the accident, we just could not write endorsements for him that would gloss over all the reckless things he’d done that we were painfully aware of.  We told his parents and lawyers that if they wanted statements from us, they’d have to be truthful: they would, in fact, detail Zack’s bad driving, how loud he played his radio in the car, how he talked on his phone while driving, how he ate in the car not paying attention to the road most of the time, how he speeded everywhere he went, how we’d seem him drive after a few drinks before (but, honestly, never did see him drunk, in which case we would have wrestled him to the ground and taken his keys away if he insisted on driving), etc.

His parents were furious with us, and it ended our friendship with him. They found other people, various relatives, employees of the family company, church members, etc. to write those letters, but we just in good faith could not support Zack’s defense when we didn’t think he had a leg to stand on:  we wanted him to come forward, take responsibility for what he had done, suffer the consequences, do his time, and then emerge on the other side of this ordeal changed for the better with his demons exorcised.

This is exactly how we are feeling today about the 60 Democrats in the Senate who are voting to ram through the single worst piece of legislation in our nation’s history.

The majority of those 60 people are Senators we’ve supported most of our adult lives.  We have pictures on our walls of us with many of these people.  Barbra Mikulski, Joe Lieberman, Roland Burris, and Evan Bayh are personal favorites. It is agonizing to think of a future screeching towards us where we would want to see any of them booted from office — but if they indeed vote to pass the Utopiacare bill, that’s exactly how we will feel.  We just cannot ever again support a Senator who votes for this monstrosity…any more than we could have written those character statements for someone whose character we couldn’t defend in his circumstances.

Let us be crystal clear here:  it is a sign of gross incompetence and willful dereliction of duty on the part of an elected official to ram through world-changing legislation without reading it, giving it careful debate, considering the will and wished of constituents, and moving in a judicious and financially prudent manner with future ramifications always in mind.

From where we sit, whoever votes Yes on Utopiacare in the mad dash to force this through by Christmas deserves to be thrown kicking and screaming from office.

We will personally devote the next six years to making sure we do whatever we can to boot all 60 of these Democrats from the Senate, should they vote Yes and ram this monstrous legislation through.  That means having to work against people we like, and a few we genuinely love.  That breaks our hearts.  It really is like having to stand on our principles and refuse to write those character statements for Zach, knowing we’d have to lie to give his lawyers what they needed.  We just couldn’t do that, and we just can’t ever support any Senator who passes the Utopiacare bill.

EVERY one of these people is that 60th vote that passes the bill.  Every last one of them is the reason this will be inflicted upon us.  Every last one of them deserves to be defeated at the first available opportunity.

We won’t even get into the merits of healthcare reform here…because the problem we have with the actions of this Senate is on a much more basic level.  The reason we are so furious is because these Senators should never pass ANY bill that’s been handled in the manner in which Harry Reid orchestrated Utopiacare in the Senate.

ANY Senator should lose his or her job if he or she:

* Votes Yes on a large spending bill without actually reading it

* Votes Yes on a bill that’s not even written, so there’s no way of knowing what’s in it

* Votes Yes on a bill that the public does not want and ample evidence suggests needs more thought and consideration before action should be taken

* Votes Yes on something of dramatic national importance just to adhere to an arbitrary political timetable

* Votes against the will of the people

* Votes in the face of common sense

We’ve personally decided the vote on Utopiacare will be a Before/After moment in our lives.  Political allegiances for us will change when the final votes on this is taken.  People we long supported will become people we work hard to defeat in their next elections, because we will no longer believe those people to be fit to hold national office.  The Utopiacare bill is the single worst piece of legislation the United States Senate has ever produced.  It should be defeated, and healthcare reform should start at square one, page one, this time with the considered debate it deserves, respecting the will of the American people, with politics left outside the chamber and the best interests of all Americans as the driving force.

This legislation is economy-altering, jobs-killing, and world-changing.  It is not a vote to name a new post office after someone.  It’s not a vote to declare some obscure person a hero.  It is not one of the mindless pieces of legislation that can be rushed through the Senate before a holiday. Healthcare reform is not something that should be treated like this, handled so sloppily, and done so recklessly.

We are beyond disgusted by the behavior of every Democrat in the Senate right now.

Every one of those 60 people has the chance to stop this bill so things can start over and it can be done correctly.

All 60 have the choice to make:  politics, or the best interests of the American people.

If they choose to hold the party line and do what Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Dr. Utopia want and not what the American people want them to do, then we want nothing more to do with them — and look forward to calling all of them “ex-Senator” at the first available opportunity.

We do not think we’ve ever been this angry about anything.

We’re stunned — STUNNED — we feel so passionate about this that we will actually start opposing and working against people we’ve admired for years, but just like with our friend Zack, if they really go ahead and do this, they will cross a line with us from which there is no going back.

Many of you asked where we stood on this, so there’s your answer.

Once the die is cast with this, all previous bets will squarely be off.

Monday Open Thread: December 21st, 2009

Posted at December 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

This week, Democrats are going to push through measures that will destroy this country as we know it…all before Christmas.

It is a Hard Candy Christmas if there ever was one.

It is JUST LIKE every Christmas special where some goblin or local villain tries to destroy the holiday, and then all the people in the village rise up and stop the evil, saving Christmas.

It’s what we need to do, people.  How is still being worked out…but, trust us when we say we are working 24/7 to figure out what we can do personally to stop this madness.  America is worth fighting for.  We CANNOT let Reid, Pelosi, and Utopia destroy this country…not at Christmas.

What’s on your mind this Monday?

*********

R.I.P. Brittany Murphy, 32. We note her death here for two reasons:  (1) she was a very nice girl who liked the Hard Rock Hotel here in Chicago, so it was common to run into her; without fail, she was kind, fun, and personable every time any one of us saw her out and about and (2) people always ask “How did this happen?” and tell stories about all the times they tried to help someone who ends up dying at such a young age after abusing prescription drugs.

Well, we hope all of you realize how common this is.  When Heath Ledger’s autopsy was released, he had something like 11 prescription drugs in his system.  We’ve told you before how Sebastian’s ex David also abused prescription drugs — at one point giving himself a severe seizure at work that forced him to be taken to the hospital.  They found 13 different kinds of prescription drugs in David’s system.  Ledger died a few years after Sebastian and David broke up, but Sebastian still had the medical file from David’s seizure, and 9 of Ledger’s drugs were what David was taking too.  5 of David’s prescriptions were actually in his mother Louella’s name:  she would get Valium, Vicadin, etc. and then send the bottles to her son, keeping it a secret between them.  Well, David had the same “secret” with two of his sisters, each one giving him her painkillers too, and not telling anyone.  A podiatrist friend of David’s gave him whole prescription pads, signed, for various painkillers, so David could just date them whenever he needed them.

We don’t know why 32-year old Murphy had a massive heart attack and died, but it seems like it’s prescription related, like Ledger and Michael Jackson.  None of us particularly like David (because he’s a jakass of the first order), but we tried our very best to get the guy help.  His mother refused to allow him to go to rehab, standing in the way of that after his seizure, saying, “No son of mine goes to rehab like a common drug addict”.

THAT’S why tragedies like this happen.  Someone is too proud to get help…someone has too many enablers standing in the way of help…someone’s in denial and instead of taking the advice of friends to get that help, instead pushes the people trying to help them away.

We all saw David two weeks ago out in Boystown, seeing him in person for the first time in more than two years.  He looked healthy, which we were happy to see, and seemed much more together and with-it than he was when we all saw him regularly.  Maybe he’s gotten the help he needs.  We hope so.

Because celebrity deaths always make the news, but this kind of thing happens every day to someone.  It’s all preventable, but it’s far too common because even when people try to get someone help, there are obstacles that stand in the way.  We have no idea how to resolve that, but just have to note that we’ll NEVER forget, in all of our lives, Louella standing there in the hospital waiting room, imperiously declaring “No son of mine will go to rehab” when that’s just where her son needed to be.  Every time a Brittany Murphy or Heath Ledger happens, we hope and pray David’s not going to meet the same fate…but if he does, most certainly Louella’s “No son of mine” speech that day back in 2006 will have played a part in whatever ended up happening to him.

*******

This weekend, we went shopping at a few Targets around Chicago looking for Boo-Berry cereal, as we heard a rumor Target carries the General Mills Monster Cereals (which Jewel, Dominicks, and other Chicago grocery stores do not).  This was a lie, it seems…a cruel, cruel, CRUEL lie.  Two of the main things we all miss about Ohio and Pennsylvania are: Boo-Berry cereal and Friendly’s watermelon sherbet roll, both of which were always carried at Giant Eagle, Finast, and other OH and PA stores.

Well, once the cereal aisle disappointment happened, we walked through the rest of the stores and were SHOCKED by the Christmas selections:  there didn’t seem like there were any new products for sale.

What we mean by that is, this year there’s no big new thing for people to buy, as in years past there were always “the hottest seller”, “the thing everyone wanted to have”, etc.  There are some little hamster toys calls Zhu Zhu pets that apparently kids want, but nothing else in terms of hot new items people are beating down the doors of stores for.

That’s interesting because it feels like companies didn’t bother to put anything new out this year because people didn’t have any money to buy things.  We’ve long heard that cell phones, in particular, are several years behind in terms of the tech that’s actually sitting in warehouses, waiting to be produced.  That “new generation” phone of yours is actually 10 years old in terms of product development. The phone everyone will HAVE TO BUY five years from now was probably invented five years ago.  There’s a lag because companies will wait to put a product out until they know they can make maximum profit with the invention.

And this year felt like one in which no one wanted to waste a great idea or invention when no one has the money to buy it.

Most people we know are giving things like Snuggies or copies of Going Rogue as Christmas presents.  We’re baking cookies and making holiday ornaments for people (FYI: target did have a sale on those simple round ornament bulbs, at $2.50 or so for a pack of 6 in blue or red solid colors, which are great for then decoupaging photos of Hillary or Sarah onto and making little political ornaments for friends or stockpiling for the 2012 campaign).

We can’t even recall any advertising trumpeting “hot, new gifts everyone wants”. It feels like people have just kind of given up, retailers included.

********

Have you seen that the winter in Europe is so bad this year that it’s shut down the Eurostar train in the Chunnel? Where is all the Global Warming that’s supposed to raise temperatures?  If you look at solar flare activity, the current spell of unusually cold weather coincides perfectly with decreased solar flares.  THAT’S what’s changing our climate.  Not what Al Gore’s Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming tells you.

It’s also funny to us how incompetently most of Europe is run — and yet the Left in this country wants us to be like Europe.  These are the same elitist overeducated fools we know who constantly talk about how they want to live in Italy, go there to ride unicorns and harvest spaghetti from trees, and live in bizarre European utopias they believe exist there.  Well, we’ve lived in Europe.  Some of us spent every summer there as kids working for family businesses.  The Chunnel trains are shutdown because nobody thought to build them to withstand intense snowstorms:  snow is literally being sucked into the high speed trains and shutting them down.  SNOW.  Europe’s forever being addled by simple things like this, always with a severe case of Emperor’s New Clothes where everyone believes they are so well-read, erudite, and knowledgeable that they forever end up looking foolish because of things small children could have spotted.  And, yet, people in Chicago are so obsessed with Europe that they come up to strangers and harangue them to find out what “nationality” they are, and of what European extraction they claim.  It’s ridiculous.

Sad news…Alaina Reed-Amini has died, after a two year struggle with breast cancer.

Loved this woman as Olivia on Seasame Street and Rose on 227.  She seemed so, so kind…and was a big part of our childhoods.

Please get a mammogram at the earliest convenience…early detection is key.  Encourage all the women you know to do the same.  Make some good come from Alaina’s passing…no better tribute to a life that’s touched so many than to make sure this doesn’t have to happen to at least one person out there.

The Seventh Day of Obamamas

Posted at December 20, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Everyone sing along!

On the Seventh Day of Obamamas, ‘The Lightbringer” promised me:

- Seven extra states no one’s ever heard of

- Six tanker trucks full of pudding for Oprah

- Five tax cheating Cabinet Members

- Four unindicted, election-tampering Black Panthers in Philly

- Three coal-producing states put out of business

- Two tubs of purple zombifying Kool-Aid

AND

- A unicorn in an ACORN tree

*******

For those of you who are too RAAACIST to know this, Obamamas is the new national holiday honoring our current president, Dr. Utopia, The Lightbringer.  The motto of Obamamas is not only “Jesus Who?” but “Christmas is RAAACIST And so are all you People” (C.R.A.P. for short).

Obamamas is a total C.R.A.P. holiday –  celebrated with a large aluminum Grievance Pole staged in the center of your living room.  Upon it, you will display an empty suit honoring Dr. Utopia, the Lightbringer.  You will perform various rituals around this pole every hour, on the hour, to prove how not-RAAACIST you all are.  Al Sharpton, Henry Gates, and Jesse Jackson are watching, so you best get to it.  Obamamas isn’t going to just Obamamas itself.

Anyone who can help photoshop some images to go along with the 12 Days of Obamamas, starting with “A Unicorn in an ACORN tree”, would be much appreciated.  The more interesting takes on this the better…it should be a tradition in EVERY household starting this year, so everyone can celebrate all the wonderful things this man is doing to our country.

*******

Many thanks to Chrissy-the-Hyphenated for the GORGEOUS froggy Obamamas pics, and to Rain for the BEAUTIFUL unicorn in an ACORN tree (which we have a feeling we will be using OFTEN).  We are so amazed by people who can make such beautiful art…a talent we do not have at all.

America Needs You. Save It, and Christmas Too – by Patricia Melton and the Mineral City Coffee Club

Posted at December 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Featured Content, Hillbuzz, Mineral City Coffee Club

Dear HillBuzz,

My name is Patricia Melton and Fate, being wise, kind, and most sensible, has made me President-for-Life of the Mineral City Coffee Club.  Don’t think for one moment I don’t take this honor seriously, and do everything in my power to live up to the great expectations of my fellow Presidents of Coffee Clubs throughout this country, and in foreign places that have enough damn sense to have Coffee Clubs of their own (like Iceland, Australia, Monaco, and Zanzibar). The rest of the countries can just go to Hell for all I care, because if they don’t have enough sense to have Coffee Clubs, then they aren’t worth my time ( no Coffee Club + random country = not worth my time…do the math!). Coffee Clubs are salons of discussion, debate, activism, and gossip set around kitchen tables in just about every state in this great union, where women, gay men, nosy husbands, cat-babies, and occasionally people I don’t like (such as my mortal nemesis Ann Millar, whom I non-affectionately refer to as “Skeletor”) come together to judge people, plot, scheme, judge people, and hold elected officials accountable.  We drink coffee, too, in case you couldn’t figure that part out. In which case, you’re just stupid.

YOU MUST GO TO YOUR SENATORS' OFFICES STARTING MONDAY AND SCREAM AT THEM

Posted at December 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Starting Monday, you need to get your butt off your couch and head down to your Senators’ field offices if there is any way you possibly can.  Get as many people as possible to go with you.

Go Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

SCREAM at the staff there that you are organizing as many people as you know to defeat every single person voting to enact socialism in this country by passing the Utopiacare bill.

SCREAM.

We have been told by people who’ve worked for Senators that so few people show up at field offices that every one of them is treated like 10,000 people’s opinions.  Some field offices go WEEKS without a single person showing up and crossing the threshold.

These people work for YOU.  They have a legal obligation to take a meeting with you.  Someone on that staff HAS to talk to you, because you pay their salaries.  Bring your kids, bring your parents, bring your neighbors, bring everyone you can.

Scare the living Hell out of these people.

It doesn’t matter if your Senator is a Republican or Democrat, scare all of them.  They all talk to one another.  They need to know how angry the public is about this.

Go to your Congressional reps’ offices too.  They will make sure the message gets to Washington as well.  Scream at all of these people.

It has come to this:  that we are encouraging people to go out in public and scream and yell.  But that’s what needs to be done.

It is our great hope that those of you who read us and read other sites too will encourage all other places you read to encourage their readers to do the same thing.

Melting the phone lines is not enough.  You need to go in person to your elected officials’ offices, demand to be heard, and scream in their faces that you will not sit idly by while socialists take over this country.  You need to tell them you are mad as hell and are not going to take it anymore.

For all those of you who didn’t want to vote for John McCain because he was not conservative enough and sat out the 2008 election letting Dr. Utopia win — this is your fault, this is what we warned everyone would happen if he won, and so Republicans who didn’t vote for McCain, in particular, need to really raise their voices and get off their butts now.

We will be harassing the offices of the entire Illinois Congressional delegation next week…Monday through Thursday.  We are bringing as many people as we can.

You need to do your part too.

******

UPDATE: To be 100% clear, every single member of the House and Senate needs to be screamed at next week.  EVERY one of them.  Republican and Democrat. They need to see firsthand how angry the American people are. Even the ones who are voting NO need to be screamed at too, so that they get a little extra fire in them too.  They need to know the people are behind them in voting NO.  People need to scream their heads off all next week.  Make it cathartic.  We will be screaming at Senators Durkin and Burris, and will take great joy in screaming at Jan Schakowsky, our Congressional rep…the worst member of Congress after Pelosi herself.  We will scream ourselves hoarse, and go to these offices Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

And then, if this bill really does pass, everyone who votes for it needs to be defeated in their next election.

This will mean, for us, working against people we have long supported.  That’s going to be tough.  But, here’s what it boils down to for us:

This vote is a Before/After moment in our history.  When the vote is made, all the things we thought about people before the vote will be muted by what we think of them post-vote.  This bill has not been read by anyone.  It’s purpose is to takeover 1/6 of the economy.  It is being rammed through at lightspeed without proper consideration or debate. This is reckless legislation and anyone not standing in its way is in gross dereliction of duty.  Anyone voting for a bill this large, this expensive, and this nation-changing without fully understanding every word written in it should not be in Congress because they are incompetent.

And we hope all 60 Democrats eventually lose their seats if they vote YES on this, as expected.

We will work to defeat all of them, even those we consider friends.

If Hillary Clinton was in the Senate today, and she voted Yes on this, we would work to defeat her too.

Read that again a few times so we are clear — this is such a travesty, that we would WORK AGAINST Hillary Clinton and defeat her re-election if she voted for this monstrosity.

To us, more than anything, this is a test of competence:

* the bill is not even written and they are voting on it, which should be unconstitutional

* no one has read the bill, and they are voting on it, which should be illegal

* no one understands what’s in the bill or how much it will cost but they are voting on it anyway, which should be grounds for their removal under the umbrella of incompetence to the point of being unable to discharge their elected duties

If you vote for this bill, you are a buffoon who does not belong in Congress because you cannot meet the minimum job requirements for your office.

It is that simple.

Whatever we thought of you before, after you do this, you prove to us you should not be a Senator.
