You need to ask yourself this question: Is America worth fighting for?
We can’t answer that for you. We also won’t tell you what you need to do to stop Utopiacare from passing and destroying the country as we know it.
We can only tell you what we are going to do. Maybe it will give you ideas of your own.
In the interest of full disclosure, none of us here were involved in politics, government, public policy, fill-in-the blank, until 2007 when we all started volunteering for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. We’d done little things for candidates before, and had worked on a few campaigns, but that was 10% of our energy — something we did as a hobby. In the last two years, however, this has all overtaken our lives, occupying 95% of what we do. It has consumed all of our free time. All of our money goes into political-related activity. All of our reading time’s spent on policy books, magazines, and websites. Why? Because in 2007 we realized the Liberals in this country were plotting to destroy our nation and render us some sort of third world banana republic. That was the goal starting in 2004 when they began the Obama campaign moments after Kerry conceded defeat to Bush.
This is a years-long plan on their part, funded by George Soros, to cripple and destroy this country.
They are counting on the fact that most Americans are not “political” and think it’s a waste of time to be involved in this process. They are ramming through the Utopiacare bill this week in the Senate because they know people are distracted with Christmas. They are counting on people being too busy with the holidays to put the fear of God into them to stop this bill.
Here is what we are doing today:
* We are personally going to the offices of Jan Schakowsky (House), Mike Quigley (House), Dick Durbin (Senate), Roland Burris (Senate), and Pat Quinn (Governor), and will scream in the faces of their staff. We want them to see how angry the public is — and that the public knows where their offices are and intends to hold these people accountable for what they are doing this week. Utopiacare is socialism taking over this country, written in the dead of night, passed in secret, and foisted on the people in fiat when no one is looking. We want the local offices to call Washington and tell them people are coming to their offices SCREAMING mad about this.
* Many of you Eeyores say “they won’t listen, this does no good” and we don’t know what to say to you anymore about that. We don’t have the energy to figure out if you are concern trolls or not, or whether you are just little rain clouds that like to sit there bemoaning how we are all doomed without getting off your damn butts to do anything about it. Well, in hopes that we shame your sorry hides, we’re going to tell you this: whether it does any good or not in your opinion, we are going to make sure whatever staff is working today at these offices has an experience they will never, ever forget. We’re going to make sure they remember Monday December 21st as a day in their lives when they were screamed at by the public. When they go home to their families for Christmas, and Aunt Tilly asks how they like working for the Congresswoman or the Senator, we want them to say, ‘Oh, man, these gay guys really let us have it on Monday…screamed in our faces…it was awful”. We want to make these people hate working for Congress and the Senate today. We want the Governor’s office to call the DNC and tell them he’s getting flak too. We know for a fact these are people who hate the public, hate dealing with the public, and hate when the public comes to their door. And we guarantee they will hate us in spades today.
* We are calling — not emailing, but CALLING — every single person in our phones today. There are several hundred of them. We are calling all of them and telling them what the Senate is doing this week — how it is ramming through legislation in the dead of night, rushing it for no reason, and trying to do this in secret before Christmas adjournment. We are going to start doing this at 9am and will go until 11pm if it takes that long to call everyone: Republican, Democrat, cat, dog, people we don’t especially like and hate talking to, EVERYONE. This is called a Round Robin. Before the Internet and email, it’s how people got information out quickly — we think we need to go old school today and bring this back. We are going to write down four-five sentences we want to read to everyone in our phones…telling them this country is under direct attack from Democrats this week, and that we, as lifelong Democrats, are so scared of what’s happening that we are telling everyone we know to forget about Christmas plans and PAY ATTENTION TO THE REPUBLIC COLLAPSING. Chances are, a good many people will not like that we are doing this, but who cares. America is important to us, we love this country, and will risk it all yet again to save it. We HATE talking on the phone, but we’re willing to do that today because we think if enough people get revved up, that WE THE PEOPLE can take this country back. But it has to start somewhere.
We’re strarting this today. You can sit there and twiddle and diddle and bemoan it all, or you can try to do something. We believe in the ingenuity of the American spirit more than anything. If the rallying cry goes out there and everyone STARTS DOING SOMETHING about this, one of us out there will come up with a way of getting through to just one vote of that 60…because if Harry Reid has only 59 votes, he won’t be able to make Utopiacare happen this week.
For that vote count to drop below 60, the Senate needs to be terrified of the greatest voter backlash in history. For them to be so terrified, we need to scream in their faces this week, harass their offices, and rile everyone we know up about this.
We need Tea Parties to spontaneously form all across the country from now through Thursday.
If you think America is worth fighthing for, it’s time to make the awkward and intimidating leap from person who obsesses about politics and gets riled up about this stuff at home to become the big mouth with a bull horn who’s calling out to crowds and leading marches to put the fear of God into the Senate. We’re private people who would rather be doing fun Christmas things this week instead of screaming at strangers in public, but this is what we are doing this week because it’s important.
Harry Reid has canceled Christmas. He has put everything we know and love in great jeopardy. And we are not going to sit by quietly while he does it.
What are you going to do?
Is America worth fighting for?

May I gently recommend a book to you? It will explain the nagging feelings of dread that you (and I) have:
http://www.amazon.com/Liberty-Tyranny-Conservative-Mark-Levin/dp/1416562850/ref=pd_ts_b_37?ie=UTF8&s=books
Ignore the characterization of “conservative” as that is a modern term. Back in the day, people who insisted our Constitution is followed AS WRITTEN were considered liberals.
It’s not a long book, but it is intense. It’s not something I’d start reading after a night at Sidetracks. LOL But I learned more in this book than I learned in all my years in school and since. That is quite saying something as I am one who reads a ton.
I’ve already bought three of them, myself.
December 21, 2009 at 8:08 am
Good Christmas gifts.

So furious am I about healthcare that yesterday I made the decision I am prepared to lose friends in the name of saving America. I’ve already lost a couple and frankly, the prospect of losing my country feels a whole helluva lot worse than losing some friends who are so afraid to admit they voted the wrong way that they are burying their heads in the sand – at their and our expense. So I’m speaking up – if they don’t like it, I don’t care anymore. It’s time for us all to go to the mattresses in defense of the republic. HB – GOOD FOR YOU. Godspeed.
December 21, 2009 at 6:39 am
I have already lost friends. I have also saw lots of friends that have see the light.
December 21, 2009 at 9:08 am
Kelly, you’ve made the right decision.
The hillbuzz boyz are absolutely right!!! NOTHING is more important that fighting this NOW.
Like Betty and, I’m sure, many others, I’ve lost friends, but if that’s the ‘price’ of doing the right thing, c’est la vie.
Besides, if people are so dense (stupid) that they can’t see what is happening, I find it hard to respect them any more, so to lose them as ‘friends’, is that really much of a ‘loss’?
December 21, 2009 at 5:11 am
All of my reps, every single one, voted against this lizard of a bill. So I can’t get in anyone’s face. I’m a Catholic gal here in really red S. Utah, so no chance these guys (including our blue dog Dem) would go for this crap.
But here is some ammunition for your principled stand tomorrow. Scroll down to where Senator Hatch lectures the Senate on the Constitution:

December 21, 2009 at 11:55 am
You are lucky, I have Specter and Casey. Casey is a stooge, and Specter, well we all know about Specter…..
December 21, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Yes, you can. Put pressure on those so-called moderate dem senators that voted for it. The more pressure the better. I have very liberal reps., so I’m going outside my state to pressure those moderate dems.
We can never give up.
December 21, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Like the Hillbuzz crew, I have Turban and Burris and their offices are 340 miles away from me. My representative voted it down, thankfully. I am going to attempt to bombard all of them with emails through http://www.DearPolitician.org. I am attepting to locate some local activist groups and volunteer my time. As long as they are vehemently against this, I don’t care about their political affiliation.
December 21, 2009 at 5:49 am
I’m in! Will go to offices Wednesday, as I have to work today and Tuesday. I’ll be calling local offices every hour today and Tuesday. Let’s put the fear of God into these people.
December 21, 2009 at 5:58 am
and guys, you might wanna listen to this for a little inspiration as you head out the door. It’s a priceless monologue from last week (about 12 minutes long):
http://www.marklevinshow.com/Article.asp?id=1627923&spid=32345
December 21, 2009 at 5:28 pm
Thank you, Dana. That was truly inspiring.
December 21, 2009 at 6:04 am
Of course she is worth fighting for. I’ve felt it bubbling up and rumbling around for many months now, but after this week/weekend’s events, I know, KNOW that we are now ripe for the uprising and the revolution–back to the Republic. Believe me, I know how dramatic that sounds at first read, it’s not. Not anymore, anyway. It’s time. We will either be remembered as the people who sat on our hands and allowed our country to be kidnapped and raped, OR we will be the ones who grabbed her back and saved her. I’d like to be the latter. Some politicians talk a good game about “Being on the right side of history”…well, this is a real life example of that right here and now. It’s time, and I feel it now more than ever.
December 21, 2009 at 6:47 am
The gauntlet is thrown….what will be the true American’s response? History will show what this nation is made of. May God bless and keep all of us.
December 21, 2009 at 6:56 am
Of course it’s worth fighting for. You just need to remember that the liberals genuinely believe they are saving their country from the terrible tyranny of, um, freedom. No, that doesn’t make sense to me, either.
You just need to point out what actually happens under socialism. Just look at pretty much every European country, as well as the US where the government spends as much on healthcare per person as the UK. The free market is not the problem and people need to be reminded of that.
December 21, 2009 at 8:23 am
I’d be on board too if I were actually present Stateside — it’s been nearly twenty years since I was involved in direct action of the hell-raising kind, and since then I’ve never felt moved to act, but the last several months the call has been ringing loudly for me — but what I shall be doing today come 9 a.m. Eastern time, a few hours from now, is to phone the offices of every Senator and let them know my view. All Senators: our federal system notwithstanding, in a momentous question like this each of them is representative de facto of all citizens.
One point might bear emphasizing to whomever you happen to speak to on these office visits; it’s one I plan on raising today on the phone.
Given the strong likelihood that of the various inducements by which Reid, Obama, etc., were able to gain the votes of the waverers and to shore up the position of some of the true believers (or to accomplish both things with one single “gift,” as with the hundred million dollars for the hospital in Connecticut), those that we now know of have been or will be complemented by promises of various “golden parachutes” to those Senators whose votes entail their defeat in the next election, it is reasonable to infer that the way in which this legislation is being passed verges on, or rather, is indeed a textbook case of organized criminal activity. That being so, I suspect that the campaign to reverse or rescind this legislation will also comprise or lead to criminal investigations of manifold fraud, conspiracy, malfeasance, etc., which if convictions are obtained could see quite a number of the perpetrators sent to prison — and among them even some of the Senators, as well as members of their senior staffs.
(Once domiciled there they would be able to enjoy truly free health care for the length of their stay. May they live to enjoy it!)
But seriously, in attempting to draw the Senators’ and their staffs’ attention to the likely consequences for themselves of passing this legislation, we probably should not omit to raise this side of the matter: not merely electoral defeat but criminal trials may be headed their way if they persist in their criminal folly. No other argument has seemed to make any difference to them, but this might succeed in scaring them enough to change course now.
Come to think of it, all of this holds good not just for the Senators but for the Representatives too.
And for the Republicans among them as well, though in a very different way, of course — for if this criminal activity is ever to be investigated and prosecuted, much of the impetus will have to come from Congress beginning in 2011, and thus the Republicans will have to be acquainted with the idea and resolved to pursue it. That is what ordinary citizens such as ourselves can help to accomplish now every time we speak to them.
Moreover, it’s not as though the Republicans on Capitol Hill have no reason to insist on such investigations, even if only as a point of personal honor, having repeatedly been defamed in the worst terms for their opposition to the legislation, most recently and egregiously last night on the floor of the Senate by the scum from Rhode Island, the aptly named Senator Whitehouse.
Beginning today, shouldn’t we tell them all that with the next election we intend to see to it that the cesspool is flushed out?
December 21, 2009 at 9:01 am
Current America? Honestly, no. The America of our founding? The America envisioned in the Constitution? In the Declaration of Independence?
Absolutely.
December 21, 2009 at 9:01 am
To Ben Nelson dissent is “laughable?”- the arrongance of it all is truly disgusting:
Nelson isn’t taking the backlash lying down.
“This is all orchestrated,” Nelson said Sunday. “It’s so thinly disguised … it’s almost laughable.
“So far, the focus seems to have been on some people who are angry. They’re ignoring the fact that not only were there good reasons to do what I did, but that there would have been a backlash the other way.”
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20091220/D9CN9TL80.html
December 21, 2009 at 10:15 am
LMFAO
Orchestrated? Kiss my big butt, Nelson. You obviously haven’t spent much time looking at the polling data to see that people of every political stripe think that this legisilation is a massive piece of garbage.
With ONE vote, you sold out an entire country, you (fill in the blank, I don’t want to be offensively obscene here).
AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH.
December 21, 2009 at 6:13 pm
I will be doing phone banking to help “orchestrate” his arse out of office,
December 21, 2009 at 9:04 am
The reason they’re so confident about this is because there isn’t going to BE an election in 2010 or 2012.
Something will happen and Obama will either “postpone” the elections or discontinue them outright.
Add to that the fact ACORN is probably working 24/7 to create phony ballots as we speak, in order for them to be miraculously “found” and all votes for Democrats, and – voila! – this bunch is running the nation until they drop over dead, only to be replaced with hand-picked, Obama-approved liberal minion successors.
I’m going to call and yell at my Sens., but the fact they’re so brazenly unconcerned about our opinions scares me. A LOT.
December 21, 2009 at 9:22 am
The way things are looking as of this moment, 2010 is going to be a disaster…a second wave of mortage foreclosures, this time on businesses; unemployment will remain high; taxes will go through the roof;
price of gas, fuel going up, etc. etc.
If ‘they’ try to cancel elections under ANY pretext, people WILL march on Washington, this time with torches and pitchforks.
If you haven’t already, start stocking food, water, batteries, etc.
This isn’t funny anymore. It’s serious as a heart attack!
December 21, 2009 at 8:30 pm
If that happens, all bets are off. Some poilitician will die. That will push a lot of completely normal people over the edge.
December 21, 2009 at 9:27 am
KEEP FIGHTING!
They couldn’t steal the NJ gov. race, nor the Virginia gov. race.
December 21, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Amen to that. That was the best $20 I ever spent – $10 for each Republican! It felt so good.
December 21, 2009 at 9:44 am
Don’t despair. Fight!
Acorn in all of its glory has only been able to get 2-3,000 ballets. It only helps in the closest of races.
IMHO, 2010 will not see one close race. Not to say they will all be anti-democrat (always spelled with a small d). But the ire of the people has been awoken and they will seek revenge.
Postponing or canceling the 2010 elections is not an option. Not unless Obama wants the military to choose between the people and himself.
The vote will be cast and the people will take this country back.
Obama the last bullet is always pointed within.
December 21, 2009 at 12:01 pm
I’ve been saying for a while now that the only reason the dems can act this way is if they KNOW that they cannot lose the next election. There are only a couple of reasons I can think of as to how this could be so.
1. Rigged elections.
2. No elections.
Anyone else have any other ideas?
December 21, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Someone (Glen Beck I think) predicted that the reason why they don’t care is because some of them, like Harry Reid, probably have nice jobs waiting for them at big corporations if they lose their seats in 2010.
December 21, 2009 at 2:23 pm
You mean the big corporations Obama’s going to tax out of existence?
December 21, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Amnesty for illegal aliens adds a ton of Democrud voters.
December 21, 2009 at 1:38 pm
I just can NOT believe in this. It’s not that I don’t think it possible. I just refuse to believe that Americans will lay down and take that kind of treason. When I bring this subject up to my dh, who is former military, he says there is no way our Armed Forces would allow it. Someone would take him out.
December 21, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Only reason I can sleep at night: United States Military.
Thank Heaven for them; they will never, ever let this country be hijacked from within. I feel completely safe in their hands.
December 21, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I used to think this, absolutely. However, seeing the reaction to Ft. Hood from the upper strata in the Army, it concerns me a bit. I also expect some mucky muck generals to get whacked. If his royal telepromterness attempts a martial law style coup on political grounds, someone will take him out. The military needs to say “No”. They can argue it as an unlawful order outside of constitutional authority.
December 21, 2009 at 1:49 pm
As far as I know, there is no legal mechanism by which elections can be suspended.
I keep reminding people believe Obama’s master plan is to become a dictator: States have the power to secede from the Union. They will, if Obama tries anything like that.
No fascist dictator can ever rise to power without the full backing of the military, and it’s not legal for our military to deploy domestically. Not to mention the fact that the military is generally a lot more conservative than Obama, and they take an oath to protect the U.S. and the Constitution.
I don’t think they would go along with Obama’s master plan. So if he tried to become a dictator, I think he would fail miserably.
I also want to point out that a lot of people thought George W. Bush was going to try to rule forever. You can find some of these old blog posting from 4, 5, 6 years ago still on the Internet.
December 21, 2009 at 9:08 am
I’m sorry Burris disappointed you guys. When you come right down to it, Liberal is to the core. Lieberman voted with these clowns even after all they’ve done to attack him and kick him out of the party!
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/vote_menu_111_1.htm
Boyz, how much can you scream in a government office without getting arrested? I have three very small children, a night in the hoosegow for the cause of liberty isn’t the unmitigated honor it would otherwise be..
December 21, 2009 at 9:14 am
Lieberman is a huge disappointment, because I really liked him as a person. I thought he had more integrity than this. Guess not.
December 21, 2009 at 9:10 am
America rejected God two generations ago. It was only a matter of time before He allowed us to drive off the cliff.

Congratulations Hillbuzzers, we’re just a bunch of aryan, white racists who are refusing to give this president the victory that he deserves in spite of the fact that it will destroy America. This is according to senator whitehouse who is a clown tool. If people only knew about me and they would not say that I’m a white, aryan, but those are details that only get in the way of the attack.

Being from the deep south, I have endured this kind of bullhockey for years. Because I have an accent apparently I don’t have the sense any God could give someone. I love the south because of the texture and friendliness that still endures. I have had to move west because of my husband’s job. I go back home at least four times a year. I was at the Mudbug festival in Shreveport this past summer and imagine this, OMG both blacks and whites in equal representation were eating anything fried on a stick and dancing to whatever band was on stage and OMG there were even black and white children dancing together! I am a photographer and teacher. I took so many pictures and when I looked at them, everyone was just happy. No one was wearing racist t-shirts or carrying assault rifles. I spoke to people of all backgrounds because I like stories to go with pictures. Everyone was there to celebrate life, oh, and the food. The reason I give this account is because I see clearly that Washington is not about people but about power. It is scary really, how one of these “rulers” can go on the floor and talk about regular citizens who are indeed concerned about the land the founding fathers carefully and thoughtfully created for us and classify this concern as being “racist.” However, southerners have endured this kind of arrogance from the north for years. We aren’t just a bunch of rednecks, there are actually universities in the south. Now, some of you know how it feels to be lumped into one big tent of racist aryans. I am sorry that you are realizing there is no Santa Claus but I am glad you are waking up. We are all in this together. Let’s tear down those walls, break up these groups, and see the reference of big “tents” for what it is, to create a false sense of being ostracized.
December 21, 2009 at 9:18 am
It is amazing isn’t that the power of the political party trumps even the good sense that God gave us. I cannot and will never understand this. We have people who are willing to cast an entire population of people into tyranny to impose upon us what they believe is strong and just medicine. I’m with all of you. I’m working the phones today!
December 21, 2009 at 12:36 pm
Bill -
The Congress critters don’t care about anybody’s health but their own. This is just another power grab. Even the Dems who claimed they disapproved appear to have been grandstanding for bribes. No, I’m not implying the money went directly into their pockets. But in too many cases, if you follow the money trail, you’ll discover the corporate beneficiaries are major contributers to the politician’s campaign coffers. Example from long ago:
Bell Helicopter has plants in Texas, benefited from LBJ’s expansion of the Viet Nam war and donated big bucks to his campaigns.
December 21, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Oh what a tangled web of deceit we have created in this country. It is time to let the deceivers know we are now watching. My two Senators are Republicans. John McCain finally decided to break out of his tortoise shell. I hope he begins to realize what a scam GW is. He was going to vote for it apparently in a response to my letter to him this summer. It is the people of Nebraska, Louisiana, and Arkansas that need to storm the offices of Nelson, Landreau, and Lincoln.
Also, we need to get the lawyers involved into the constitutionality of requiring everyone to buy insurance, letting some states off the hook and others pay, giving huge amounts of money to some states and not others. How is this done? With the way interstate commerce was set up originally, I have a sneaking suspension that we have been violating the original intent for years.
I am dumbfounded, really, dumbfounded. Can some constitutional lawyer or history buff please snoop this out. I admit, I am part of the problem for not knowing this stuff.
December 21, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Hi, Rain.
The Heritage Foundation and others are all over this. Don’t forget we have an awful lot of liberal judges now. Have you seen this video of the Heritage presentation and debate on the constitutionality of the mandate for health care? Senator Orrin Hatch, Randy Barnett, and Eugene Volokh discuss the various aspects of the arguments, pro and con, that could possibly go before the Supreme Court.
Also, note that Orrin Hatch states that the arrogance of power of this administration is beyond belief and they are willing to violate the constitution to push the 40% of the population who are already dependent on the government up to 60% so that they will have a permanent constituency.
http://volokh.com/2009/12/09/video-of-heritage-session-on-constitutionality-of-health-care-mandate/
December 21, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Thank you TXMom,
I should have known the Heritage Foundation would be all over this. I need to become a member so I will get updates. We all need to be as informed as possible in these troubling times. That way we will not only know how many heads the monster has, but how to defeat each one.
December 21, 2009 at 9:23 am
He seeks to enslave our children, grandchildren…with oppressive taxes and “gov. knows best”.
His Safe School Czar is EVIL.
BO et al are wicked, scheming, tyrants.
God HATES evil doers of this level. These politicians are not just garden variety sinners.
December 21, 2009 at 9:24 am
The following came from an article about the seedy, chicago style politics that passed this senate POS. The quote from Lindsey Graham captures it for me. This will create a new entitlement, raise huge taxes, and taxes are paid for 10 years, and benefit for only 6. This is a taxpayer’s hellhole, and a dream come true for marxists! We have got to work on everyone today!
“This is far from over. The House and Senate bills are in many ways irreconcilable,” Graham, a Republican who voted against the bill said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sunday morning. “ … You know, change you can believe in, after this health care bill debacle is now becoming an empty slogan. And it’s really been replaced by seedy Chicago politics, when you think about it, backroom deals that amount to bribes.”
Graham is upset over what he calls Enron-accounting tactics that were used to make the bill look solvent.
“It is a sham. You collect taxes for 10 years and you pay out benefits for six years, and the Class Act, which no one’s talking about, is a completely new government entitlement.”
December 21, 2009 at 9:36 am
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the HOUSE, the only ones up this hour are a bunch of louse.
The deals were all made with dems (liberal and blue), in hopes that Dr. Utopia will prove how he can screw.
Most Americans all snug in their beds, with fears of socialized medicine racing in their heads.
How will we pay?, we already work too many hours a day! Taxes were hung all around their necks, but the liberals in office say “oh what the heck…”
Dr. Utopia all smug with his new deal, while visions of ruining the country he soon will reveal.
And the WH occupants in their ‘kerchief and gown, had just settled in thinking of more ways to let this country down.
December 21, 2009 at 9:38 am
What is the best way to deal with relatives that might want to gloat over Christmas? I don’t even want to buy anything for my sister this year. I really don’t. She voted for Utopia, which means the destruction of my partner’s profession (medicine). Why would I even want to engage this person in conversation, let alone buy her a gift?
I’ll be civil. I ususally am. She takes cheap pot shots. I try to keep my mouth shut. She says, “He’s mad.” I try not to say anything. She pokes a little more. Finally I explode. And I’ve ruined Christmas. It has happened before. I am just supposed to take her shit.
Okay . . . I’ll be seeing my therapist tonight. Maybe he’ll have suggestions for coping.
December 21, 2009 at 10:17 am
Wrap up garbage from around your house. When she opens it and confronts–with the dirty looks from around the family for “ruining Christmas”–just shrug and say, “Hey you gave me garbage, I’m just giving it back. And there’ll be plenty more where that came from. Besides: You should be grateful, for more and more Americans–because of you and yours–that’s the only place they can afford to shop anymore.”
What? They’re going to be mad at you? So?
December 21, 2009 at 10:57 am
qr4J-
Wrap up an obviously used item and tell her it is a “green” gift and that is change she can believe in.
By the way I noted in post you left a month ago that you were in Papua New Guinea. My parents were missionaries there also in the 60′s and early 70′s and that is where I grew up.
December 21, 2009 at 11:10 am
Get her a copy of Going Rogue, and bring a camera to snap her reaction. PLEEEASE.
December 21, 2009 at 12:17 pm
Actually, I think I will give a copy of Going Rogue to my partner–along with a copy of Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged.” If I gave either to her, that’d be pouring gasoline on a fire. And I don’t want a fire of my making. However, I’ll wear asbestos underwear on Christmas day just to save my own ass from the flames!
December 21, 2009 at 1:31 pm
qr4j,
I suggest you give her a copy of 1984. It is a little less obvious and she might actually learn something. If she reads that is. Also, if or when she attempts to discuss politics, let her know that you are trying very hard to enjoy the one day of the year devoted to selfless giving and you would like that to be honored by her silence on the subject. If that doesn’t work, let her know that your partner would be happy to help her gain her sanity with a free lobotomy whenever she is ready to be intelligent.
Oh, and just devote more of your attention to your partner. That is the person who matters the most.
BTW, I would love to know where they sell those asbestos underwear, it would sure keep me from the flames I get up my a.. whenever I enter enemy camp in the break room of the art department.
December 21, 2009 at 1:39 pm
qr4j,
I hope this isn’t a duplicated post but mine sort of disappeared. Anyway, I suggested that you give her a copy of 1984, it is less obvious and she may even learn something. Also, if she insists on talking politics, let her know that your partner would be happy to help her get her sanity back with a free lobotomy to regain here intelligence.
Devote most of your attention to your partner. That is the person who matters the most on this glorious day.
BTW I would love to know where to buy a pair of those asbestos underwear. They would help me keep the flames from going up my a.. when I enter enemy camp in the break room of our art department.
December 22, 2009 at 1:59 am
Also consider getting her a copy of Animal Farm. Subtle but very effective. Inexpensive too.
December 21, 2009 at 11:37 am
Get her Levin’s book. That could cause some well deserved snappage.
December 21, 2009 at 12:19 pm
You guys are awesome! Such gift-giving tips I never expected. Thanks!
December 21, 2009 at 12:40 pm
Is there time to get one of those gift-donation certificates. The one I’m thinking of is the group that provides poor in third world countries with part of a goat or a bee hive. That way you get to see her disappointment and do some good (help a family, help an orphan…) too.
December 21, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Oh, I second this one! This is my favorite:
http://www.heifer.org/
December 21, 2009 at 2:05 pm
That is too funny. Perhaps I could donate part of an ass–a very Democrat thing to do! I doubt could afford a complete ass. How much did that ass from Nebraska cost taxpayers? $100 million? And the ass from Louisiana: She’s costing taxpayers $300 million, isn’t she? Perhaps I could donate an ass’s toe nail for $50. Whatya think?
December 21, 2009 at 12:55 pm
Ooooo, been there.
You need to bring a strong mental image with you that will help you not react to her, but to your own private picture of her. For instance, she voted for Ohole, so you can see her as a jackass, or as one of those Mmmm mmmm mmmm kids. When she aims one of her darts at you, summon up your picture of her as a wall-eyed gum-chewing seven-year-old shooting rubber bands.
Truly, this works. But you have to put some effort into making a good, vivid alternate (true-self) identity for her. You and your partner could spend some time together creating this solid alter ego for her; then you’ll have strong, reinforced safety glass to view her through and to keep out her zings.
As for presents: Get her something so insultingly generic and bland that it could have been bought for anyone. Make it look like a re-gift. How about a fruitcake? That can be your private, yet deniable, message that you think she’s nuttier than. Cover story: “But I had a slice of this brand and thought it was really good.”
December 21, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Honestly, I was thinking about a gift certificate to Macy’s. She’s traveling by bus from Chicago to Downstate Illinois. And she doesn’t have room for anything in her suitcase to speak of. I like the heifer.org idea, too!
Is Macy’s bland enough?
December 21, 2009 at 4:01 pm
No, no, no, I say Walmart.
December 21, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Or K Mart
December 21, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Oh heck! Since she doesn’t have room in her suitcase, get her a set of whitewall tires…. or the parts to a Mustang GT.
December 22, 2009 at 1:56 am
How about “The Dollar Tree”
December 21, 2009 at 1:13 pm
I have the same relatives. They gloat and feel gleeful, but deep inside, they feel insecure. But, they tell themselves, if they try to cast an optimistic attitude about things, then, maybe, just maybe they’ll be able to wipe away their insecurities. I have an older sister who voted democrat every year, believing that they will bring her the annual pot of gold. But she’s had her hours cut, her husband’s construction business bit the dust, and she’s asking us for money. I have a younger sister who believes that anything liberal is a good thing, and she works as a contractor for corporate clients who are seeking to cut their losses. I wish I could ask, “how’s that hope and change working for ya?” I’m still gainfully employed, and I am so blessed. But there hasn’t been a day when I don’t go through and wonder what are my plans should I be dismissed? I have to stay one step ahead of the game all of the time and just rely upon God to provide everything. I feel for you and the situation that family puts you in. It’s not easy and it’s not nice. Politics divides and there is no sparing of the family.
December 21, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Every adult in my family [seven] is a Conservative–so I guess we lucked out on the political topic–everyone agrees for the most part! And I promise on my life we were not even close to indoctrinated whatsoever. We didn’t even talk politics in our house. We were not very religious either. I guess it’s just the way Mom taught us through her actions. But I feel very lucky that we don’t have to worry about political squabbles–obviously those are prone to nastiness. Even my little nephew–well, he’s fourteen–is starting to form his own opinions and ideals on his own–and sometimes he’ll ask me questions about the news…guess what he is sounding like… :]
December 21, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Don’t spend open-ended time with her – restrict the time. Also, make a plan beforehand to have an excuse ready so you can leave if she is needling you and you are starting to lose your cool.
One time I visited and Christmas and cut the visit short by 3 days. I was very polite about it and gave no reason (pointless to bring it up), but the fact is – it is up to you to protect yourself if you have a toxic relative and remove yourself from harm if necessary.
Another way to go is to stay somewhere different so you can always leave the scene and come back later, if you don’t want to end the whole visit early.
I have/had some difficult relative – like you I went to a therapist and she helped me come up with those plans – and they do work.
Another plan we put in place is that I would not see my relatives alone – I had to bring back-up. Kept them on better behavior. I tell you – soon as they were alone with me, nasty. Soon as a witness comes along, sweet as pie.
Can’t tell you what a big improvement it made to implement firm self-protection moves. Gives you confidence.
December 21, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Excellent. Very helpful suggestions. Thank you.
One year I visited my parents for a holiday when they were living on the west side of Illinois. My sister had arrived from Chicago earlier than I did from Champaign. In the room I was to sleep in, she put up a picture of Che Guevre (sp?) and a poster about a socialist workers union–as a joke. Then she talked all sorts of off-beat theology.
Finally, after a day of that, I lost my cool and burst. She could do all that stuff to annoy me. But when the dam finally burst, it was I who was wrong. Why couldn’t I control my emotions, said my mom. I was better than that outburst.
I drove home to Champaign (about 3 hours), the whole time asking why I ever bothered. And I refused to put myself through it again. Fortunately I am not exposed to this stuff too often. But I always feel like I am on egg shells around her. She’s always right. I am NEVER right.
December 21, 2009 at 3:45 pm
Maybe Glenn Beck’s book Arguing With Idiots [not that I'm calling your sister an "idiot"--please don't think I am--Beck just means those on the far, far left] is in order so that you can have a counter-argument prepared on every topic, for anyone who needs one? I’m pulling for ya ;] I have one of THOSE friends who is so far left, I dunno how he stands up. Anyway, he is the smartest guy in the room–just ask him, he’ll tell ya. And he’s never been wrong…ever…again, you need only ask him.
December 21, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Look, I have relatives like her too. Take the high road and by that I mean, just don’t be around her one second longer than you have to…. Arrive after she leaves, come before she arrives.
The first word out of her mouth, get up and leave, politely. Trust me, after that happens a once or twice, the family will chew HER butt out (can you tell I’ve been there?)
Life is too short to put up with people that upset you, especially those who believe that they can get away with it and never be called on it. Respect is a two way street. Don’t let people mistreat you just because they share DNA.
December 22, 2009 at 12:53 am
qr4j,
You can always stop by our house for a safe place to “run to”. We’re just next door in Decatur!
December 21, 2009 at 9:38 am
(Boyz, if this shows up as a duplicate message, I’m sorry; on this end it doesn’t seem like the previous transmission got through (that sort of thing happens sometimes with my wireless connection), but if it did, please feel free to delete this one, as you see fit.)
December 21, 2009 at 9:55 am
I agree with Hillbuzz, yet I have become so worn down by fighting against illegal immigration…and now the Democrats want these illegals to be granted amnesty.
In this health reform bill, illegals won’t pay a dime, but our own low income citizens will! As well as our own elderly citizens will face cuts in treatments and care.
I think at this point in time, with Obama, Soros, the progressives…they will not listen…I think it will take millions upon millions to go to D.C. and just camp out!
December 21, 2009 at 10:12 am
Boortz says “sign up for GOOOH!”
“The goal of GOOOH is to replace all 435 members of the House of Representatives in the next election. Our Republic can no longer survive the inattention of voters who think that 434 of the rascals ought to be replaced, but that their very own particular congressman is doing just fine, thank you very much.”

And somehow we need to concentrate money somewhere. Do you realize if we had 10 million people donate 10 dollars each it would be 100 million and should be able to do some damage or help one get elected. I feel there are way too many little non-profit type companies set up to do this or that that there is not a concentration to realy focus on one candidate that desparately needs help.
Any ideas?
December 21, 2009 at 10:49 am
just joined gooh..i too will be on phone today..a thought, the repubs MUST find a way to reverse this bill if it goes thru! there seem to be many parts of it that are unconstitutional, like pay a fine if i choose not to buy! thats incredible!..
q4rj, i so agree with u about how evil this man is and he doesnt deserve to breathe this air..i too despise him with all my being!
December 21, 2009 at 10:49 am
I just had this conversation with my son yesterday. He has two children and he was telling me how much he enjoyed Avitar. I vented a little, I told him to stop paying so much attention to the finer things in life and get on the phone and start making some noise about this fiasco we are in, so my grandchildren can enjoy movies THEY choose to watch in the future and not what is dictated to by the federal government…In answer to your question, yes it most definitely is worth fighting for, but our children have to get on board.
December 21, 2009 at 10:51 am
Well…there plan is working. I am at work today and tomorrow (and praising the Lord that I still have a job!!!). Wednesday I will move heaven and earth to NOT prepare for Christmas…and go to the downtown Pittsburgh Offices of Bob Casey, and Arlen Specter.
Can’t get a real live person at Casey’s office (I just keep hitting redial!)
Called Specter…on the THIRD try I got thru. I asked ‘why did you sell out PA to finance Nebraska?’ ‘why did you sell out PA to give 10 billion to VT?’ ‘did Sen. Specter even read the Bill? Did he help write the Bill?’ ‘Does he know what he is doing?’…the answers…’No, no, no, no (we will find out for you nutcase lady daring to call our office!) and yes (to he knows what he is doing??? Well I, a registered Democrat know what I am going to do…work for Pat Toomey!!! Why…because he is not Arlen Specter and did NOT sell out PA (and the Country). Silence. Did she write it down? Who knows. Did she laugh her arse off when she hung up? Who knows. I’ll see their reaction on Wednesday when I show up (may take my HS aged son with me…he can see democracy in inaction! the younger one has a play in school that I will miss to do this–but he shouldnt’ have too).
I am that pi$$ed.
Well back to my ‘speed’ calling of Casey’s office. He has a ‘Constituent Rep’ on his phone menu…hell, I can’t even get a receptionist. But I will keep trying!
December 21, 2009 at 10:53 am
I am going to contact my senators in MI yet again, even though it is completely useless. They will vote for anything Dr. Utopia wants. I have written and will call Stupak again today. He is in MI, not in my district, but I believe he may be our only chance.
December 21, 2009 at 10:59 am

(I’m a bit perplexed now, I’ve sent this reply a couple of time but it doesn’t seem to be getting through; I hope that there isn’t some bug in the interface.
More importantly, working my way down the list of Senators –
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm
– I just finished speaking with Boxer’s staff, and yes, I really bared my teeth. The poor woman on the other end got an earful.
The offices of Akaka, Bayh, and Bennet (the one who said he wouldn’t mind defeat in the next election if that were needed in order to pass the legislation) are not open today. What a surprise.)
December 21, 2009 at 11:11 am
Please don’t ask for him to become a martyr. He needs to be defeated at the ballot box, and then live out his life as the absolute worst POTUS in history.
December 21, 2009 at 11:49 am
Yep, he does not deserve martyr status.
December 21, 2009 at 6:51 pm
I agree. I hope nothing happens to Obama and he is allowed to “die” a death by a thousand cuts–all to his reputation. His ego could not survive it. I want him to be a disgrace beyond measure so that he cannot hold up his head anywhere on the planet and anytime someone says his name, they burst out laughing because he is nothing but a joke. He thought he would destroy America and in turn, she destroyed him.

I did not vote for the man, I do not like him, his philosophy, his speeches, his wife, etc. But, if he is removed from office in the next 3 years by any means, Biden would become president and Pelosi is next in line. Perish the thought.
If the Almighty were to terminate him while in office he would become a martyr and every other school, airport, swimming pool, and boulevard would be named after him.
No, we will just bide our time and make sure the next congress will challenge him and his socialist agenda.
My husband and I are still employed, but I have had my hours cut and my husband has had his pay cut. We have decided that with each paycheck we could come up with at least $11+ for the cause of liberty. Every payday we will take one dollar and purchase two stamps. With the first stamp we will send $10+ to candidates who are running against any member of Congress, House and Senate. With the other stamp we will send a letter to the incumbent, telling them that we have donated to their opponent’s campaign, due to their total stupidity and lack of ability to uphold the Constitution. The election of Franken in Minn. has proved that money from outside the state can determine election results.

C. S. Lewis:
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. “

Big Government has a very good and sobering article. The spending spree liberals have taken over every aspect of government. We have to keep in mind local elections and get these people out on all levels. Tea party people need to run for positions in their local governments. So that is a big part of this fight in taking back our country.

While we have to go on fighting, I think realistically, we will not be able to stop the Senate from passing this massive power grab and taxation monstrosity before the Christmas recess. Our so-called representatives have proven that, at this point, they just do not care, or beleive, what the polls and the people are telling them. Now I think we have to start looking at January (the November elections will be far to late) to stop this rush to a marxist state by making it absolutely clear the “we, the people” do not consent. I think a national strike in January, followed by, or in conjunction with a multi-millions (and it has to be millions) citizens march (peaceful, at least at this point) on Washington when our reps attempt to “reconcile” their monstrosities, demanding these marxist bills be thrown on the trash heap of history, would be our last, best chance to actually get their attention and force them to understand they work for us, not rule us. I am very afraid that if we fail now, we will never have another chance.

What if 5,000,000 citizens surrounded Congress the night of Obama State of the Union Adress?

The Dems have to know that they have just committed political suicide. Why are they not scare? What has been promised them or what will happen in 2010 or 2012 that has them not worried?
And don’t think the RNC is any less guilty. I bet if we investigated them we’d find a level of corruption as thick as the dems. Why are they not supporting true conservatives? Why are they rejecting Palin? They know these folks will seek and destroy them politically. They too are more concerned about their power than preserving America’s values.
Americans have been had, and hell yea, I am going to fight to get my country back. I’ve served and defended our constitution for 21 years of my life. I will not go down lightly.

The Grand Ayatollah of Iran died this morning. His funeral brought out – once again – tens of thousands of protesters. They were screaming ‘death to the dictator’.
These brave people have been screaming out since the fixed election. The media ignores them, several of them have even been killed, but still they come out of their homes and scream out their anger.
We Americans need a little of their courage. After all – our election was fixed too. We have to get out there, take up space and make noise.
Great idea Hillbuzz.

I’m putting this thought out there on every blog that I visit. Please spread the idea if you think it is a good one. The healthcare bill promises that insurance companies cannot say “no” to you. This is the big Dem talking/selling point, and it is the thing that will lull many people into supporting it. But remember when the government told banks that they couldn’t say “no” to certain groups of people applying for mortgages? Yeah, you know what happened. There was a boom, then the shifting of risk, then BUST. It will happen again, as sure as the nose on our face. I commend you guys. Keep up the good work!

i’m so mad i could spit. i can’t go in person to offices today, but i have been trying to call.
kay hagan (d) staff are not answering phones in DC, raleigh, or greensboro. and of course all the VM boxes are full, so you can’t leave a message.
called richard burr’s (r) office and they picked right up. they told me that none of hagan’s staff is in today.
of course not. why would they show up to work the morning after such a criminal vote?
i’ll be headed to their offices alright and i’m not usually a yeller, but i will be yelling: HOW DARE YOU NOT BE AVAILABLE TO THE PEOPLE WHO PAY YOUR SALARY? and other things. if they’re even there the rest of the week.
snakes.

What if we all band together and send Utopia pieces of plastic dog poop? Tell him that’s what we think of him and his UtopiaCare. It’s shit. And we think he’s full of it. Call it SHIT Brigade. And come up with an acronym that fits.

OK, so what happened to Senator Burris?
December 21, 2009 at 2:23 pm
My senator is Mitch McConnell. Guess it’s a good thing we re-elected him at the last minute.

Yell at him. He’s pretty much #1 on the list to vote out…

I am a retired Army Master Sergeant who spent twenty years swearing to uphold and defend the Constitution of The United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. We now have a great deal of people in this country who seem to think that the document was written on an etch-a-scetch and can mean anything you want it to mean depending on how you feel today.
Justice Scalia once said at speech he gave, that anyone who believed that The Constitution was a “living document” that should be constantly reinterpreted was an idiot. It is a legal document that says some things and does not say others.
You do not have to be Clarence Darrow to understand it. The founders wrote it in plain language that even the average farmer of the day could understand. There was no “emanations” and “penumbras” hidden away inside it that needed an annointed one to explain it. It says what it says.
You must remember that the government does not give you any rights. Anything a government grants it can take away. Rights precede government. The purpose of the government is to protect those rights, not “do” things for you.
Reread the Bill of Rights with this in mind. It is not so much of a bill of rights as it is a “Bill of Restrictions” upon the government ie Congress shall make no law…
The entire document is a restriction of government power. It doesn’t restrict us, it restricts them. To a degree we have all in the past allowed polititians to play fast and loose with this document when thought we could gain andvantage, not seeing that these same politicians would use that power to our disadvantage. This must change.
By the way, as an aside Hillboyz, search out Pink Pistols and GLIL out on the web. Knowledge is power.

I did it! Both of my senators have offices on the same street as my office. I walked a total of 3 miles and gave a little tirade and left a note at each office. They were polite, but I felt what I was saying went in one ear and out the other. They are hard-core lefties. I feel better for trying though.
December 21, 2009 at 8:22 pm
I thank you, as I’m sure everyone else here does too, for doing this today. Hope lots of other people showed up too.
December 21, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Also, it didn’t seem like many people stop by their offices to voice opinions. In that sense, I think the effect was huge compared to a call or e-mail and worth the extra effort.

Fighting for our freedoms has become like having another FT job. I take responsibility for wrongly assuming my representatives were representing me. That while I was living my life, having kids, running a business, they were selling off the very American dream that made our Nation so great. Now I see that we have a DUTY to hold them accountable. Never again will I assume an elected official has my best interest. This will be a lifelong endeavor no doubt. They will not shut me up. Too many have died for the very freedoms they are now taking away. It is why I wrote “Freedom”. God help us all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZvr9yv0wOY

Thank you. That is beautiful. I shan’t whisper either.

Of course, America is worth fighting for. Does anyone remember pledging allegience to the flag in school? Remember the sense of pride in being an American that was instilled upon you every day in school. Remember when you had civics and social studies and learned how the founding fathers made this country great–how wonderful capitalism and entrepreneurship were and how exceptional it was to be an American. Yes, America has warts, but so does every other country on the planet but I thank God every morning that I am an American (and I have been all over the world–and spent half my life living between France and the US).
George Washington said that is is the People that protect the Constitution and it is our responsibility to do so. I’m not interested in what anyone’s religious beliefs are and no one has to agree with me here, but our founding fathers understood and made sure its populace did that God has blessed this country beyond measure–and not just financial blessings. Blessed to worship as we see fit, blessed to live our lives on our own term, blessed to love who we want, blessed to have education and liberties not afforded to other countries (and the list is long). We put our Trust in God, not the government, but God will only help us if we help ourselves and remain true to his Word. We currently see evil staring us in our faces and we should stop it in its tracks. Our founding fathers got rid of a monarchy who wanted to enforce its rule, and 233 years later we will do the same with an unruly Congress.
December 22, 2009 at 1:04 pm
I hear George Washington daily–telling us to keep fighting and never give up.
Beck’s Washington stories gave me new energy.
We owe George the fight of our lives.

And now the latest: Senator Whitehouse from Rhode Island has stated that we who oppose fascism in America are the REAL fascists. Get that one? Yes citizens. You and I and all those who frequent these pages to decry the loss of liberty and the agonizing death of a brilliantly beautiful political system that was a beacon to the world and the lifesaver of millions the world over, we are Aryans. We are racists. We cannot stand to see Obama in the office of the Presidency. We are birthers and the lunatic fringe. Some fringe, eh? A majority of Americans are now part of the fringe. If we are to have the label hung ’round our necks, if we are to be beaten with the opprobrium of the radicals, then I say we damn the torpedoes and blast back. Is there an impeachment website our there we don’t know about and should? The name calling has worked so well for them that they really think we will be willing to stab America to death alongside them just so we will be “liked and approved of”. Oh yeah? Tell me I am something over and over again, although I am not, and I will become your worst nightmare. We have nothing to lose but our own integrity. I think at the State of the Disunion Address given by this warped speciman Obama he should have tens of thousands bellowing outside the windows screaming for his impeachment. The more names we are called, the louder we should scream. Because to call us names is a way of silencing us and I will NOT be silenced anymore. If you think we are what you say we are, then you should not be surprised, correct? You should expect what you get, correct? But when you get it you are AMAZED and that is the proof you were lying all along. Let’s us organize the “Light of Truth” Protest. Let us, thousands of us, bring large torches at twilight and stand outside the White House and shine thousands of lights into the windows demanding the Liar tell the truth. Tens of thousands of voices bellowing “YOU LIE!” Because my spirit can take much but it cannot take the venom of the lies vomited forth day after day, month after month, a rape of the population beyond measure. We can stand outside the White House and let the occupying force within know it has become a Whited Sepulcher. What say you all, citizens?
December 21, 2009 at 7:50 pm
That’s one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time! Thousands surrounding the capital shouting “You LIE!” Yes, yes, and yes!
December 21, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Absolutely!America is worth fighting for! These aren’t Democrats that are running this Country right now they are Progressives under the gise of Dems. True JFK Dems would never let this happen. JFK Dems like my parents and their parents loved their Country and would fight to the end defending it. The Dems that are in control now are ashamed of this great Country and want to do everything in their power to change it. They believe that if they rewrite history, which everyone knows you can’t, they will change the world. “Hope & Change” Is destroying this Country.
