Take that, Jews. White House guts annual Hannakhah party; meanwhile, Obama wishes there were more Muslim holidays to celebrate

Posted at November 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Jewish people we talked to during the 2008 campaign repeatedly told us that Jews, by and large, were “liberals before they are Jewish”.  Meaning, they would vote for Dr. Utopia despite his cold shoulder to Israel, and would vote against keeping Israel safe and maintaining its pre-eminence as our #1 ally, because Jews love wearing the giant “I’m a liberal!” buttons on their coats. Dr. Utopia is the most liberal president this nation has ever seen, and most likely will ever see.  And he has been nothing short of monstrous to Israel and Jews in America.

Not that they have any room to complain about him, because they voted for him in droves and now must wrestle with the cunundrum if it really is best to be “liberal first, Israel last” after all.

While, honestly, we don’t follow the celebrations of holidays other than Christmas, Halloween, Easter, and the patriotic holidays like Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, etc., we sure can remember Dr. Utopia getting all excited for Ramalamadan, and Kadingadadingdong, and the other Islamic holidays that have come and gone while he’s been in office.  He went out of his way to lecture to Americans how important the holidays of those who have been actively trying to kill Americans are, and how we all need to be humbled and awestruck by the awesomeness that is women-oppressing and gay-bashing Islam.

We take a big “Hell no” to that garbage, thank you.

Islam to us is no more a valid religion than is Scientology.  Both pretend to be religions.  Both have sacred texts.  Both are run by crazy people with their own agendas who use their followers to strike out at enemies and achieve their nefarious aims.  Tom Cruise might not be strapping bombs to himself in the name of Emperor Xenu, but did anyone see Lions for Lambs?  That was a sink bomb if ever there was one.

Scientology is a pyramid scheme designed to strip Hollywood’s wealthy from their money.

Islam is a global terrorist organization using the cover of religion to thrive where otherwise reasonable people would see  it for what it is and not allow it to operate freely.  Liberalism is the handmaiden of Islam, because without political correctness and multicultural dithering Islam would not be able to recruit, train, and direct terrorist activity in the US and Western Europe.

We think it’s disgusting the White House is gutting the annual Hannakhah party — claiming they are trying to save money.

Really?

NOW these people want to save money.

Almost every Wednesday the current First Lady has a big music party where people like Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, and all sorts of rappers and hippity hoppers come to the White House to perform for her, where she dresses up in another tragic “outfit” People magazine’s then told to call “the most beautiful thing any of us have ever seen”.  How much do those parties cost?

How much did it cost the current First Lady to fly to Copenhagen with Oprah Winfrey to embarrass themselves and ruin Chicago’s shot of making even the last round of Olympics’ city selection?  That was in the millions, not counting Dr. Utopia’s SEPARATE flight over there.

But, these fools can’t hold a normal Hannakhah event?

Why not eliminate the Muslim celebrations in the White House, at least for the duration in which Muslims are still trying to kill Americans.  Take the savings from canceling those two-minute-hates and use that money to host a normal Hannakhah fete, like every year.  Hell, if the most spendthrift administration in history has suddenly decided to coupon clip, just ask all the guests to make it a potluck.  Ask Jewish businesses to donate food, drink, decorations, and entertainment for the night.  We’re sure they would be happy to comply.

We’re also positive Jews will excuse this latest snub away, as they’ve excused all of this president’s slights against Israel already.

“But, he is so liberal.  He must be wonderful.  We love being liberals so we love him,” the Jews keep saying.

They won’t wake up until Dr. Utopia’s out of office, and the next president restores things to how they used to be.  At which point, Jewish voters will gripe and moan about how terrible Dr. Utopia really was and how piss-poor he treated them.

For the moment, though, they’re still too happy being liberals before Jews to care about Hannakhah or anything else.

******

PS:  Some of you need to work on your reading comprehension before you send us hate mail. Read the first sentence in the piece above, PC police.  The Jewish people we know and frequently spoke to during the 2008 campaign are the ones who gave us the “Jews are liberal before they are Jewish” line.  We got a nasty email from someone with poor reading skills who went on about how we “can’t say all Jews feel this”.  We didn’t.  We’re talking about the Jews we know and speak to and what they told us.

We are not a scientific survey of the opinons of everyone on the planet.  We are a bunch of gay guys in Boystown who tell it like we see it here in Chicago, and talk anecdotally about what we observe, hear, and know in our own lives.  If you don’t agree with what we say, that’s great.  Tell us how you think we are wrong.  But be able to read a few paragraphs first and grasp their meaning — and don’t namecall.  Go over to Daily Kos for that garbage, because we won’t tolerate it.  And once you do it, don’t complain that you were banned.  It’s as simple as that.

The danger of the PC police is that they are very quick to jump on anything that’s said, and very quick to whip out a big stick that says “You can’t generalize!” all over it.  They seem to believe that if you can find one Jewish person who is not liberal, then you should never be able to use the “Jews are liberals first before they are Jewish” line.  That’s totally false.  We got that line from Jews themselves who see this idiocy being committed by Jews who voted against their own best interests to cast ballots for Dr. Utopia.  We see this here in Boystown, with the LGBTQ community, of which we are a part and have more basis for anecdotal conversation.  Gays vote against their own best interests and pull the default Dem lever all the time, because they would rather be called Liberals than vote anything but Democrat…no matter who is running or what their policies are.

It’s true.

Being PC police and pretending it’s not is dangerous.

It’s time this poltically correct crap gets kicked to the curve.  We won’t tolerate it around here.  If you want to pull that stuff, Daily Kos would be happy to have you.  Ft. Hood happened because of the PC police.  How much longer will America as a whole tolerate this “You can’t say that!” garbage?

We need to force Attorney General Eric Holder from office

Posted at November 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Notorious race-baiter Eric Holder should be removed as Attorney General.

The Left waged a successful campaign to force Alberto Gonzalez from office…and while we personally didn’t like Gonzalez or the job he did as AG, Holder makes us nostalgic for the days when someone that competent held the position.

So far, Holder has:

* refused to prosecute the Black Panthers for assisting the 2008 Dr. Utopia campaign by standing outside Philadelphia voting centers with weapons to intimidate voters

* refused to prosecute Dr. Utopia’s curly fries and Arby’s buddy, Bill Richardson, for graft and corruption as New Mexico governor

* mounted a determined and sustained assault on our nation’s intelligence network by going after CIA, FBI, NSA, and other agents he feels are too rough on Islamic terrorists

* jeopardized the saftey of New York City and American intelligence resources by deciding to try Khalid Sheik Muhammad and other 9/11 Muslim terrorists just steps from Ground Zero

Senator Lindsay Graham is not one of our favorite people in the world.  He’s craven, self-serving, and just flat-out gives us the creeps most of the time.  But, he sure spanked Eric Holder’s America-hating butt, but good.

Eric Holder and Valerie Jarrett both need to be removed from the Administration because of the harm they are causing this country.  Republicans need to take Holder to task every day like Graham did here…and we all need to find a way to get Independents and moderats as well as conservatives tuned into Jarrett’s activities as well.

Caucus and Primaries Primer: how do we best get this information together?

Posted at November 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Here’s a project we want to start around here that we hope will help whomever runs against Dr. Utopia in 2012 to defeat him.  We want to gather up all of our caucus and primiary anecdotes, lessons learned, and retrospective analysis into a kind of virtual textbook on the 2008 campaign.

These will be the things most of you never read before, if you weren’t on the ground in the primaries.  The MSM never reported on any of it, because it all involved the underhanded, fraudulent, and sometimes violent things ACORN, the SEIU, the DNC, and others did in the name of Dr. Utopia to secure the Democrats’ nomination for him.

We have a friend here in Chicago named Wes who is so obsessed with the Caucus Fraud that’s all he talks about, literally, to anyone who will listen…at the grocery store, on the train, you name it.  Obsessed.  But, it’s an emotional thing with him.  All he wants to do is rant and rave and relive all those horrible caucus memories, where Utopia’s goons pushed and bullied old people and literally stole votes from Hillary Clinton right in front of Wes’ eyes.

Our goal is to take a different approach from Wes.  We want to find a way to put all of this Caucus information out there for people to be able to read so they know what they will have to go up against in a few years.  Our belief is if they read all this now, it’s going to make it hard for David Axelrod and the White House to repeat these actions again in 2011-2012.  They will want to run the same playbook they ran last time.  All of you reading these words now have a chance to stop that from happening.

The combination of us throwing them off their game by disabling their fraud and Sarah Palin going rogue and running a campaign of her own, with twists and turns as only she can orchestrate them, will bring Dr. Utopia down.  This is a man who remains enthralled with being “first” at everything. First admittedly partially black president.  First “Pacific president”.  First Man’s Country regular to sit in the Oval Office.  Well, he can be the “first Democrat to lose re-election since Jimmy Carter”. Let’s see how proud of her country for the first time in her adult life that makes his wife, Mrs. Utopia.

We don’t know the best way to organize this information…maybe a page dedicate to the 2008 campaign, with all of our reflections and information included there.  If you add your comments and anecdotes, and post links you know of to other sites that have this information too, then together we could compile a mighty resource we hope would get into the hands of Palin’s people so they can learn from the mistakes we all made with Hillary Clinton’s own presidential bid (where we DID win the most votes of any presidential nominating contest in history, but we just couldn’t overcome the race-baiting and fraud).

We are willing to pour our effort into this because it seems like a worthwhile project.

We hope you will help in any way you can, starting with giving us your thoughts on what  form this should take and how we should proceed with it.

First official use of moose logo for nascent Palin 2012 presidential campaign

Posted at November 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

History being made? First use of presidential campaign logo by Palin?

The above is the flyer for the stops on Sarah Palin’s book tour to promote “Going Rogue”.

Two things are interesting to us that further confirm our belief that Palin indeed is running for president in 2012:

(1) The final stop on the tour is Sandpoint, Idaho, where Palin was born.  Almost every stop on the tour has some kind of meaning to Palin (including places the McCain campaign would not allow her and Todd to go during the 2008 race, as well as Phoenix, Arizona, which is McCain’s hometown and the place she was not allowed to deliver a concession speech on Election Night).  Stopping off in the place you were born sure feels like a presidential campaign sort of move. It’s also interesting Palin’s hitting Salt Lake City (Mitt Romney’s town), Minneapolis (Tim Pawlenty’s town), several stops in Florida (Charlie Crist’s turf), and Fayetteville, Arkansas (where Wal-Mart is based, but also a town in Mike Huckabee’s old turf).  Seems like she’s intentionally making a big splash in the states most associated with all the boring, stale, tired men the MSM is working night and day to make into the next GOP nominee. Very interesting.

(2) Notice the moose logo?  To our knowledge — and please correct us if we are wrong — this is the first time we have seen anything come from the Palin camp with a moose on it.  Supporters of Palin’s have been creating moose logos for her, usually in red/white/blue since the 2008 campaign.  But, Palin has never had any merchandise of her own with moose on it…and we’ve never seen her put a moose on anything she’s had up on facebook or on SarahPAC.

We love this for her logo for several reasons:

(a) Instant tie-in to Alaska, the outdoors, the frontier, nature, etc.

(b) Reminds us of Teddy Roosevelt

(c) Has a wealth of potential in terms of merchandise, including plush animals for the kids, that could exceed all that “O” merchandise that became ubiquitous during the 2008 campaign

“The Moose is Loose” could be another campaign catchphrase like “Drill, Baby, Drill”.

Can’t wait.

Thursday Open Thread: November 19th, 2009

Posted at November 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

What’s on your mind this Thursday?

Have you finished reading ‘Going Rogue’ yet?

Have you been following the massive positive response Governor Palin has been getting on her book tour? The stop Palin made in Michigan yesterday was a phenomenal success. THOUSANDS of people lined up for hours, with most of them telling Palin they can’t wait to vote for her for president in 2012.

Next time we see Palin face to face, we’re going to tell her the same thing.

What else is on your mind this Thursday?

The Clinton/Palin Consensus Series

Posted at November 18, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Here’s an idea we wish we had ourselves, first: the Clinton/Palin Consensus Series, a running series of articles that www.Conservatives4Palin.com intends to publish detailing areas Governor Sarah Palin and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have in common.

We look forward to every edition — and plan on writing some of these ourselves, which we’d love C4P to cross-publish.

Honestly, we should have thought to do this months ago.  One of the most frequent things concern-trolls do around here is leave little stink bombs in comments saying, “Oh, we love Hillary too.  And we know people who like Palin, but we just don’t understand how people can like both because they are so far removed from one another ideologically that their supporters shoud be natural enemies”.

Remember, the definition of a concern-troll is someone who first says they agree with you, so that they get the comment through moderation…but then they put in the little nuggets that try to divide people or attack Hillary in subtle ways.  We have been dealing with these trolls for almost two years now at this point.  One of their favorite points of comment post-election has been our unending support for Governor Palin while maintaining our loyalty to Hillary Clinton.

The only, and we mean ONLY way we’d back off our vocal support of Palin would be if she and Hillary Clinton were going to face-off in the 2012 presidential race.

We actually see the rise of Sarah Palin as one of the pressure points that could force Dr. Utopia not to seek a second term, which would hand the nomination on the Dems side to Hillary Clinton.  If Utopia sees he’ll be beaten by Palin, with her becoming the first female Republican presidential nominee, then Democrats would sure be smart to dump Mr. HopeyChangey and let a grown up take the 2012 race…nominating the first female on the Democrats’ side, too.

And don’t concern-troll about gender identity politics here.  Hillary Clinton happens to be the most qualified Democrat to run for president in 2012, and that’s including the current occupant of the White House.  At the same time, yes it is very much indeed time a woman holds this office.  We want to see a woman president.

Would we help Claire McCaskill, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Jennifer Granholm (if she was legally allowed to run), Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sebelius, or other women we either don’t like or don’t think have done well in their jobs recently, just to get a woman president?

No.

Not on your life.

We would rail against the misogyny and sexism they’d women would receive for daring to run for president, though.  That, we would do.  But we’d have to believe in and genuinely like the candidate to put another two years of our lives and all of our money on the line to work for another campaign.

We’d do it for Hillary in a heartbeat.

We’d do it for Sarah too.

And we don’t think we’re alone in this.

C4P is proving that with its Consenus Series, of which we not only look forward to reading with great interest, but hopefully can contribute to from the moderate Dem side of things.

Sarah Palin supporters need to make sure every nursing home, hospital, and private school in Iowa gets a free copy of Going Rogue

Posted at November 18, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Today, we bought our copies of Going Rogue here in Chicago.  Not knowing we were buying them, several friends bought extra copies when they bought theirs, and so we’re going to have extra books later tonight.

Tomorrow, we are taking three of those to the assisted living centers/nursing homes here in Boystown to donate them to the little libraries they have there.

Old people are the most dependable, regular voters out there…and they typically default vote Democrat.  But, this crazy assault on Medicare that is the Utopiacare plan has seniors scared.  If they also happen to read Going Rogue while in this frame of mind, we figure it might earn Palin some friends in unexpected places.

We had the idea that in a few months, when Palin’s book goes on sale and there are copies on Amazon for a few dollars a piece, we’re going to start buying up as many of the books as we can and take them into Iowa the next trip we take there.

Then, we’re going to drive to all the nursing homes we can find, hospitals too, and slip the books into their libraries.  We will put them right on the shelves.  Someone there will read them.  Either the residents and patients, or the family members visiting there.

We also think it’s a smart idea to donate books to private school libraries.  We remember going to private school and the libraries rarely ever got new books as there weren’t any funds for that.  So, they will gladly take free copies to add to their current events and political studies collections.

We’re speaking directly to Sarah Palin supporters here:  you should really come up with a plan for the months and years ahead to get as many people in Iowa to read this book as possible.  PARTICULARLY people who normally default vote Democrat but can be persuaded to back Sarah in 2012.

You should be operating as if she is already running for President.

That’s a mistake we made with Hillary Clinton:  we waited for the campaign to seek volunteers and activate them.  We should have just organized on our own starting back in 2003 when she had her book tour.  Just imagine how prepped we would have been for her presidential run if we had thought to do that — or if it had occurred to us to start HillBuzz way back then instead of in 2008.

Wait to buy the extra books for donation so you can get them for pennies on the dollar once they hit the used market…but we think it would be an ingenious move to get those to the nursing homes, hospitals, and private schools.  Wherever there is a book shelf for people to read books for free, slip a copy in.  In Chicago, some coffee shops and restaurants or hotels have these reading shelves.  Bed & Breakfasts, saunas, some gyms, etc.

This could actually become a little game we could all play.  Maybe in each book we write the address for www.Conservatives4Palin.com, right in the hardcover, so that anyone reading the book could get more scoop on Palin from that great site.

And, it would be a fun way to do some volunteering too.  Because while you are slipping those books into the libraries of hospitals and nursing homes, you could be chatting with the residents who don’t get visitors…not necessarily about Sarah, but just about life, listening to their stories, and then maybe talking about Sarah and what she will do to save Medicare.

Just saying.

There could be a lot of fun opportunities to campaign for her and do some good at the same time.

You just have to go rogue and get off your butts and do it.

First impressions on Going Rogue by Sarah Palin

Posted at November 18, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

We finally had the chance to head to a book store to pick up Going Rogue this morning, and had to note the excitement we had holding the book in our hands for the first time.

Honestly, it made us think back six years to the summer of 2003 when we held Hillary Clinton’s book, Living History, for the first time on the day we waited in line at her book signing in Cleveland.  We knew that was the beginning of a presidential campaign we’d sink everything into and go all-in for.  And that’s the same way we feel today.

We bought our copies at the Borders here in Boystown, where a corporate-mandated giant displayed was installed prominently near an entrace.  That surprised us because this is a Borders where a lot of games are typically played with books the staff don’t want people to read.  This is also the Borders where, every time we’re passing by, we hide as many copies of “Dreams of My Father” (by William Ayers, as credited to Dr. Utopia) as possible and turn all the magazines with Dr. or Mrs. Utopia backwards (unless, of course, she’s wearing something truly ridiculous on the cover, in which case we let it stand).

We told one of the scruffy, psuedo-hipster booksellers how surprised we were to see such a big display and the guy said, “Corporate made us.  We didn’t want to.  We hate her”.

Always good to see that Hope! and Change! malarkey sold by the truckload last year has an acidic, Hate!-fueled after taste.

The book couldn’t have had a better cover in our opinion.  It’s perfect, and eye-catching from across the room.

We also love the back, with the shot of Palin and “First Dude” Todd headed to the Vice Presidential Debate.  We paused for a moment and remembered the big debate party we attended that night last October, with DeMcCrats for McCain and the Chicago Young Republicans came together for, at the Hilton Towers here in Chicago (where we’d also host the Election Night Party too).  It all seems like a lifetime ago, doesn’t it?

We’ve only had a chance to read the first bit of the book, but are already struck by how smartly it was put together.  Right off the bat, there’s a map of the world showing Alaska’s location right next to Russia.  It’s called ‘The View from the Top of the World”, and it immediately impresses not only the strategic location of Russia, but it’s distance from the rest of the US, and Washington in particular.

That was a very, very smart move…as most of the Palin bashing here in Boystown is repetition of Tina Fey’s “I can see Russia from my house,” which is not what Palin ever actually said.  You CAN see Russia from Alaska, as the map indicates.  Most people need a reminder of that, as Alaska’s so far away and out of mind on a regular basis.

We also instantly loved Palin’s dedication, which included the line, “God Bless the Fight for Freedom”.

The Table of Contents also has great chapter titles, all of which fit perfectly into a presidential campaign.  Read them and see instantly what unique and marketable visuals they conjure:

* Last Frontier

* Kitchen Table Politics

* Drill, Baby, Drill

* Going Rogue

* The Thumpin’

* The Way Forward

Palin, by 2011 or so, should come up with a campaign theme and motto culled from simple phrases like this.  “Drill, Baby, Drill” would look great on tee shirts, but it does not a campaign make.  She needs something Alaskan, something Frontier, something positive and catchy.  We’re sure she’ll come up with it…and the corresponding moose logo, with lots of Alaskan greens and blues in there too.

We’re not far into the first chapter, and had to put it down to do actual work, but we’re excited to get home tonight, curl up under the covers and read as much as we can all through the night and into tomorrow.  If possible, we’ll find a fireplace seat at Caribou here in Boystown and read the book there, where as many people as possible can see it being read.

We plan on carrying the book with us for months to come, so as many people as possible constantly see us with it.  It’s free publicity for Sarah and a good way to screw with Obots here in Chicago. So, two birds, one book with that one.

What are your thoughts for people just starting to read it?

What are the interesting things you are learning about Sarah from the book?

We think it’s a good idea to start compiling a list of great stuff the book reveals…all of which would be very helpful in the retail campaigning of Iowa for 2012.

Wednesday Open Thread: November 18th, 2009

What’s on your mind this Wednesday?

Post links to the stories you are reading so others can read them too.

While you are at it, let’s do some research into the Iowa Caucus…so we can all become experts on it by 2012.  The first step to ensuring the Caucus will be fair and untampered by the White House and DNC is to become as knowledgeable as possible about it…and after that, the New Hampshire and South Carolina primaries.

After that, it’s still up for grabs as to which states will come next, but if we know enough about the first three nominating contests, we can come up with plans to make sure Dr. Utopia, ACORN, the SEIU, and DNC don’t game the process and select the Republican candidate they most want to run against (Romney, Huckabee, Crist, Pawlenty, or Hunstman).  If you want to see Sarah Palin become the GOP 2012 nominee, you have to start working today to make sure the Democrats don’t do to her what they did to Hillary Clinton in Iowa.

Trust us on this.

Has anyone else been thinking about the scene at the end of the Lord of the Rings where the Hobbits stand before King Aragon, start to bow, and he steps forward and says, “No my friends, you bow to NO ONE.”  With that, the entire assemblage in the palace of the White City bows down before the Hobbits — for these were the people who saved their world, and they are eternally grateful for their heroism and contributions.

It’s, in our opinion, one of the best scenes in any movie we have ever seen.  We tear up thinking about it.

It’s also — quite frankly — what should happen when presidents like Dr. Utopia travel abroad and start to bow, scrape, prostrate themselves, grovel, or “assume the position” in any other way:  all things Dr. Utopia seems eager to do on his humiliate and degrade America world tour.

Without the United States, there would be no Japan. America rebuilt the Japanese economy.  America wrote Japan’s constitution and established a successful democracy there.

The Emperor of Japan should drop to his knees before any American president, because if not for Harry Truman, there would be no Emperor of Japan (and no Emperor left alive on Earth, actually).  Truman had the power to strip the Emperor’s throne from him, but General MacArthur argued the Emperor should remain on the Chrysanthamum throne as a gesture of continuity and cultural legacy for Japan as it formed its post-war government.  If not for the American president, Japan’s Emperor would have gone the way of China’s.

There is not a single nation on Earth that does not owe the United States something.  The American president should be received as a symbol of the American people, treated with all the gratitude owed to the brave men and women who gave their lives to fight for the freedom of others and the spread of democracy globally.

The current president not only embarrasses himself and shames the American people by raising his rump high into the air to bow to Emperors in Japan and the likes of the Saudi King — but he does what even Hobbits were told not to do.

Hobbits bow to no one.

So why do presidents scrape and grovel and prostrate themselves?

Dr. Utopia needs to realize he’s not at Man’s Country in Andersonville anymore.  He’s on the world stage.  Time to get off his knees and stop putting that rump in the air.

2012 Movie Randomness: Why didn't those idiots just build the world's largest fleet of dirigibles?

Posted at November 17, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

One of the great tragedies of our world is the fact dirigibles went out of fashion after the Hindenberg disaster and rise of the jet engine.  There’s a great alternate history book called “The Two Georges”, written by Harry Turtledove and, of all people, Richard Dreyfus (he of the opus belonging to Mr. Holland and the being terrorized by Bruce the Shark).

“Two Georges” is set in a world where George Washington met with King George III in Britain to avoid the American Revolution.  The “Two Georges” in question is a Gainesborough painting of the agreement the two came up with to preserve peace, and – flash forward – the British Empire into the 20th Century and beyond.

Chicago doesn’t exist in that world, instead a city called Astoria sits where we’re typing now in Boystown (which, we’re sure, knowing British men, is still alive and well). O’Hare is an Airship Port, the busiest in the world, where massive dirigibles stop to refuel on transcontinental journeys.

2012, the new Roland Emmerich disaster pic, is not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, but we have to give credit where credit is due:  it’s got us thinking about a lot of random things over the last few days since we saw it.

Today, it struck us the simplest solution to a problem like the, uh, the end of the world might be something wholly ignored today from our past:  the dirigible.

The reason Germany used hydrogen in the Hindenberg is because the US would not sell Hitler helium from Texas, of which we have large reserves to this day.  The Hindenberg was actually a very solid structural design, save for the hydrogen reliance.

Thinking about the movie 2012, where earthquakes and tidal waves destroyed just about everything on the surface of the planet, we wonder why the government, led by dithering president Danny Glover, didn’t construct the world’s largest fleet of dirigibles to just float above the disaster for as long as it took to find some sort of land to set down upon when everything was over and done.

In the movie, planes were flying all over the place. Some of them got caught in volcanic ash clouds from the yellowstone super explosion, but coldn’t airships be built with special filters and purposeful design to stay aloft and operational in a cloud like that?

The sky could have been filled with these escape airships.  America could have been saved, if sent into the heavens to ride out the worst of the continental shifts and tsunamis, and then resettled wherever the flood waters didn’t consume all the land.

Like we said, a random thought from us tonight, but one that has a practical reminder for daily life and all things going forward:  sometimes the best solution to something is what you’ve forgotten about that people long-dead and forgotten themselves came up with and the hubris of our modern world discards.

We wonder what other relics of the pre-computer world could make our lives better today, if only we had the sense to reintroduce them into our lives.
