Here’s an interesting read from David Brody on a point we have not seen mentioned elsewhwere. This week, we were so thrilled to see Time use a decent photo of Hillary Clinton on its cover that we didn’t stop to look at the photo Newsweek (or is that Newsweak?) used of Sarah Palin for the “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Sarah?” issue.
For starters, Sarah Palin’s not a problem. If she wants it, the woman’s the 45th President of the United States, barring any decision by Hillary Clinton to take that title for herself.
Newsweek lifted a photo taken of Palin, an avid runner, for the fitness magazine Runners World — on whose cover the photo was appropriate — and used it in a political magazine — on whose cover it is not appropriate — to subtlely belittle Palin. As Brody notes, it’s the rare feat of being biased and sexist at the same time.
We want to speak directly to conservatives for a minute here: do not allow the Leftist media, which is acting on orders from the White House itself, to convince you Sarah Palin is not your candidate in 2012. They are going to do everything they can think of for the next three years to tell you “Palin is too polarizing”, “Palin’s looks are an issue”, “Palin is crazy”, “Palin is unqualified”, etc.
You realize the same nonsense has been done to Hillary Clinton for the last twenty years, especially that polarizing part. For Clinton, being older than Palin, she never endured the “too pretty to be taken seriously” attacks Palin gets (instead, Hillary has always been insulted over her weight, her body type, and her facial expressions).
The MSM will continue to tear up female candidates for office because unlike attacks on black people because of their skin color, attacks on politicians because of their gender are not only accepted, but encouraged. ”Heh, heh, heh, that cover’s a good one. Way to hit that Palin, we just hate her so much,” somewhere the collective MSM Sausagefest seems to be saying.
Americans, please stop buying Newsweek.
Stop buying TIME while you are at it, even if the cover of Clinton is decent this week.
Republicans, please start calling out misogyny and sexism wherever you see it because — even when it’s happening to Hillary Clinton or someone else you don’t typically support.
You know why?
51% of the population is female.
Democrats take women for granted, in the Camille Paglia/Gloria Steinem mindset that thinking women all have to agree with the Liberal cause and default vote Dem.
Well, let us assure you, many women have strong FEELINGS while doing their thinking…and if the Republican party became the party that’s known for standing up for women and shouting sexism and misogyny down, women will start to rethink their loyalty to Democrats in 2010 and 2012.
Just like with the LGBTQ community, cultural voting traditions are so deep for some people that you might not ever get them to vote GOP, but you might get people — people like us here are HillBuzz — to become so disgusted with how the Democrat Party operates that we move away from our dyed in the wool labels and start seeing us as Independents.
Sexism and misogyny in the media is a wedge that could drive enough female voters to Independent status to cost Dems Congress next year and the White House in 2012.
If Palin does indeed decide to run for president as we believe she will, the MSM will ratchet all of this nonsense up 100-fold to destroy her.
We pledge here today that we will continue to do everything we can to stand up for her.
Will you join us?
Will you also stand with us when they pull this stuff on Hillary Clinton?
What about Michelle Bachmann?
What about Martha Coakley, Meg Whitman, Kirsten Gillibrand, Carly Fiorina, Sue Lowden, etc.?
What’s happening is that a whole new generation of female politician is rising to prominence without kissing the ring of Gloria Steinem and the Leftist Feminist Brigade. That causes immense jealousy. Urban elitist women don’t like anyone who hasn’t been swimming in the same waters as them, and women like Steinem and Paglia don’t like any woman to be more successful or influential than the two of them think they themselves are.
The only women they like are ones they can say, “Oh, she’d be nothing without me. I MADE her. She’s only where she is because I gave her my blessing.”
Those are narcissists in feminists’ clothing.
If an article’s about a female politician setting out to promote a book that she’s written, photos of her dressed in running gear are not appropriate.
Would they run a photo of Mitt Romney in a Speedo or Mike Huckabee wearing his Halloween costume in an article about their thoughts on policy?
No.
But, that’s because Newsweek wants Romney, Huckabee, Charlie Crist, Tim Pawlenty, or John Huntsman to be the GOP nominee in 2012.
They don’t want Sarah.
Because Sarah would win.
So they have to do everything possible to destroy her every day so they can beat her into submission and convince her not even to run.
Sarah, if you’re listening, RUN, GOVERNOR, RUN!

November 16, 2009 at 10:30 pm
I 100% agree.
Hey you conservatives posters and lurkers and everyone else… TELL YOUR FRIENDS…pass this post around, I’ve noticed many conservative wesbites link to Hillbuzz… SPREAD THE WORD… ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO NOT NOT NOT buy Newsweek OR Time.
Starve them out!
November 16, 2009 at 10:33 pm
In total honesty, I ~*LOVE*~ that pic of Palin because it’s so raw and so real, but agree it’s a hitjob when NewsWEAK wants to make it their cover image for a political piece.
I actually had this issue misdelivered to my office today, and I literally had to tear it from my co-worker’s hands to read the BS first (he was like “NO I WANT TO READ IT!” Don’t mess with a feisty Palin-loving gay man!).
It was a typical BS hit piece. The worst part — and I kid you not — they actually embedded this image of a custom “Hit Me Baby One More Time” Sarah Palin ACTION FIGURE into the piece:
http://www.catalogs.com/info/bestof/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/sarah_palin_action_figure.jpg
Can you believe it?
Bucketloads of credibility abound, let me tell ya. They did put that last pic at the VERY end of the piece, though. What amazing subtlety. *rolls eyss*
November 16, 2009 at 10:39 pm
I cannot tell you how sick to my stomach this sexist shit makes me.
I saw this crap over and over in the primaries against Hillary clinton. I saw how she was ripped apart, not on her policies, but her pantsuits or her hair, or her thighs.. whatever.
no one in the UNdemocratic Party stood up… party of women?? WHAT A LOAD OF CROCK!
Do people even read Weak-News? I sure as hell don’t, I used to subscribed to them up until last year, I cancelled after I saw hit piece after hit pieces after Hillary and then against Sarah.
I sometimes wonder if America will ever give a woman a chance to be president in my lifetime, and its not just the men who are fking sexists, so are many women!
November 16, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Also, just so you know, that Custom Action Figure — if it NEEDED to be a part of this sensational expose and award-winning journalistic piece — came in a regular version with actual clothes:
http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2008-09-09-1PalintheExecutiveWEBSM.jpg
If you want I can scan the part for you tomm, HB, before the ish goes back out in outgoing mail to its rightful owner.
November 16, 2009 at 10:48 pm
David Brooks who writes for a bankrupt newspaper if it werent for a juice loan from a mexican billionaire. Yet, he is qualified to be on ABC as some kind of an expert on politics and policy? HUH?
November 17, 2009 at 8:53 am
Brooks’ comments sickened me yesterday. If Palin is a ‘joke’–the jokes on him. Loser.
November 17, 2009 at 9:04 am
Ya know, I saw the clip from that, but couldn’t understand a damn thing that guy was saying. He mummbles so much, as first I thought it was a joke, but then realized he was a real commentator.
November 16, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Heres the thing. Conservatives and moderate democrats need to understand the situation that we are in. We have a Neo Marxist Media and a Neo Marxist adminstration. We are under assault from the media DAILY. Sarah Palin will never get anything close to a fair shot. Now, some on the right think because of this we should just throw her over the side since she “cant win.”
If we do this, then we are cowards and do not deserve to win. I will fight to the last man. We need to reject losers like David Brooks and the rest of the MSM.
November 17, 2009 at 1:05 pm
I think it’s too early to declare Sarah Palin as a candidate for 2012. I would hate to see her boxed into that this early. I think she can do a LOT for not just Republicans but for the middle…In fact…I think that would be the smartest strategy. If she represents middle America who is sick of the Washington insiders and elite media and the Hollywood crowd…that’s the majority right there on her side. The left does a very good job of creating this illusion that the majority is far-left when that’s simply not true.
Who was that celebrity…Dunst or something…a Hollywood starlet went to Iowa or somewhere making a film and made a comment that she was shocked how “impoverished middle America was”. That is so offensive to 99% of the people in this country. It’s not even funny. Sarah Palin would be smart not to get boxed into any kind of declaration and just be Sarah Palin.
November 16, 2009 at 10:58 pm
First thing I thought was “What the hell is she doing resting her elbow on the flag that way?” . Next was Why did she stand for the flag to be displayed that way?”
Other than that, I really don’t see a problem with the photo. Smart, hot, can shoot?
Ah, what the hell, I’m just a straight white guy, what the hell do I know?
November 16, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Sarah is a beacon of truth and light for Americans, as she fights for the people, not for popularity among the elites. Or for popularity among the Republicans.
Screw you Republicans.
The fact that Washington doesn’t “get her” is the most wonderful thing that could EVER happen.
Sarah, stay true to who you are.
Hillary, I hope you get a chance to run again, because the last part of your campaign in ’08 was AMAZING.
I’d love the two to run together. Or run against each other.
Time for change. REAL change.
And that would mean a woman in charge.
November 17, 2009 at 9:34 am
My grandmother said the other day that Hillary and Sarah should both go independent and run together. That certainly would be something.
November 16, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I will join you fabulous guys!!!
Palin 2012!!!
November 16, 2009 at 11:36 pm
This is quite convenient because just last night, while reading another article of vomitus mass by Newsweek, I thought “you know, this is just too much, I need to dump this rag”.
There is only so much liberal sucking up that I can stand before I start twitching. I have no issue with balance, but it’s been so long since I’ve actually seen it, I’m starving.
Adios, Newsweek.
Btw, I saw a clip tonight about Hillary addressing the coffee thing. I have a feeling that this just may happen. I’ll betcha that they have a LOT to talk about regarding the 2008 election. The kind of talk that could causee Obama to run screaming out of the room in terror.
Don’t let those women get into any sort of cahoots. LOL
November 17, 2009 at 12:17 am
she posted a response to this on her Facebook page.
November 17, 2009 at 12:35 am
Believe me Sarah has really put the fear in those far left liberals and they have to do all they can to discredit her. But it will not work this time and I hope those women who were a part of the disgraceful treatment of Sarah as well as Hilary have awaken and realize Sarah’s fight is every woman’s cause….Sarah is the change we need.
November 17, 2009 at 2:03 am
Of course she has. Just look at the bashing she got tonight from Olberman ( the douche ) and Maddow ( the dense ). 50% of their programs were Palin, Palin, Palin. They can’t take their eyes off of her. They can’t stop hyperventilating over her. They are obviously scared shitless of her. Just like its so obvious that Obama is a failure watching the kneejerk defense of him from the left. When you see the relentless barrage of excuses for his actions and behaviors you just know that if he was really a success they would simply sit back and smirk and bask in his glory. With Palin, if she really was no threat, they would be quietly dismissing her without eating up time, money or much energy. You don’t see them lining up to throw darts at Romney right now do you?
November 17, 2009 at 11:51 am
Amen, robert c.
And, as the Boyz say, it’s going to get worse, and we Republicans have got to not fall into the trap of buying into the MSM’s vicious, vile lies about Sarah.
Actually, we Republicans have got to grow a spine. I am so tired of the Republican party going belly up every time a Lefty shouts “Meanie! Republicans are meanies!” Or “Republicans are the party of No!” Or the ever-popular “RAAACIST!!!!”
November 17, 2009 at 12:04 pm
I think all of the above have been overused to the point they no longer have weight or value.
In all the conservative forums I’ve sat on, on all the discussions I get into about politics, it is rare if ever that a conservative brings up BO’s race.
HOWEVER— almost daily there is some “hillbilly, hick, white trash, cracker” you name it insult from the left. My god, they don’t even see the hypocrisy anymore.
November 17, 2009 at 12:13 pm
My god, they don’t even see the hypocrisy anymore.
A friend of mine who prizes herself on being a militant feminist blasted Palin for graduating from a state university. She (my friend) wanted to be represented to the world by someone with much more distinguished academic credentials.
My friend also questioned how Palin could possibly fulfill the responsibilities of being VP while providing adequate care and nurturing for Trig.
No, they absolutely do not see their own hypocrisy.
November 17, 2009 at 12:47 am
While Newsweek (and other US msm) try their best to malign Sarah Palin and market their distorted view of her in hopes of brainwashing the masses, the UK press is worth a read.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/nov/16/sarah-palin-white-house-push
Not jeering (yet not cheering)…just the facts without an anti-woman agenda.
November 17, 2009 at 12:55 am
Someone hasn’t been reading Camille Paglia lately. She’s been a supporter of Palin since she first appeared — and a fierce opponent, if not of Obama, than of many of his policies, including the healthcare debacle. Check out her columns at Salon going back a year. Paglia may not agree with everything Palin believes, but she gets her and has great affection and respect for her.
November 17, 2009 at 2:47 am
Paglia has been nasty to Hillary Clinton for two years now. She says nice things about Palin to be contrarian with her peers in the liberal press, but just you watch, she will hit Sarah too. That’s how she operates.
November 17, 2009 at 9:37 am
I love Camile Paglia but lately, she seems to be going off her feed. She’s still making the de rigueur excuses for Obama (though with lessening enthusiasm) I think. Her latest column was a surprise, though. Her cheering of Pelosi’s big heave to get Obamacare to pass the House made me choke on my coffee. Never mind that it was a huge, bloated monstrosity, a WOMAN twisted arms to pass it! Woo hoo!
Disappointing, to say the least.
November 17, 2009 at 12:57 am
Wow. Another reason to ignore Newsweek; I am underwhelmed, really.
In my building I had to hear idiots heckling the stunning Palin like she were some cheap joke. Annoying, to express my most tame thoughts on the matter. The sad part is that Sarah will be continually heckled by media left and right, for the simple fact that she is different – not an empty suit like we are conditioned to root for lately.
Great post, guys.
(But, as a fan of Camille Paglia it irritates mightily to see her lumped in with zombies like Steinheim. They are not ideologically similar. Plus – Paglia digs Palin : http://tinyurl.com/pagliaAboutPalin )
November 17, 2009 at 1:56 am
My high school US History class (1965) required each student to have a subscription to Newsweek, at a very inexpensive student rate. I became hooked, and continued to subscribe with my own money through college and for decades after. I was raised in a staunchly Democrat family, yet by the time I was finally 21 and old enough to vote, much to my surprise I found myself aligning with the Republican point of view in issue after issue. As time went on, I realized that Newsweek was becoming more biased, but I continued to read to get the other side of the story. By 2004, I had had enough and finally cancelled my decades long Newsweek subscription. I then subscribed to Time, but it also was blatantly biased and each issue only made me mad. I don’t think I lasted a year before I cancelled it too. It wasn’t any one story with either magazine, it was the dulling litany of the same nonlogic in article after article.
Our revenge is that Newsweek and Time are mere shadows of their former dominance, essentially bankrupt and fading fast. So are most newspapers. They are the horse and buggy, doomed to an extremely small niche in the transmission of information today.
I get all my news as well as opinions, dialogue, history, you name it, from the internet. It is lightning fast and interactive. Yes, all must be verified, cross-checked, and scrutinized. That’s what the news magazines and newspapers used to do, but when they began to substitute their own agenda, journalism died.
We must make sure the internet is never hobbled, censored, or destroyed, or we are.
November 17, 2009 at 12:07 pm
I canceled my subscription halfway through the campaigning. I thought I was going to throw up if I even glanced at another article fawning over Obama. And their attacks on Bush were just flat-out vicious. The final straw was the new feature in the front of the magazine area where they rated the political blunders of various Republicans and Democrats. Somehow, no matter how absolutely disgusting or stupid a Democrat had been, Newsweek always managed to score the Republican as worse.
I can’t tell you how happy I am that both Newsweek and Time are circling the drain. I just hope they take Pinch Sulzberger and the New York Times with them. Ghu knows that Pinch is trying hard enough.
November 17, 2009 at 2:01 am
Bravo, Hillbuzz. Thank you for standing up for brave women! A few thoughts:
1) Hillary looked radiant in that clip from MTP over the weekend when talking about a Coffee Summit with Palin. She smiled like the Chesire Cat when talking about meeting Sarah and trying to persuade her on some issues.
2) Camille Paglia is an intellectual with a soft spot for ordinary Americans, and has steadfastly defended Palin from baseless attacks on her capability.
3) Newsweek apparently forgot that in Sound of Music, Maria was the hero. (How do you solve a problem like Maria?) Were they intentionally trying to compare Palin to one of the most beloved figures of all time?
4) Every single one of us needs to be very active in fighting back against a sexist/biast media. Over the weekend, pundits were in full Palin-bashing mode. I penned these respones to Bob Schieffer and David Brooks … Please share with your friends on FB and other sites, and let’s try to turn up the heat on these vipers:

Any truth to the rumor that the Obama camp was involved in the apparent “suicide” of the Chicago superintendant of schools?
November 17, 2009 at 12:15 pm
I haven’t heard any rumors to that effect, but that was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard he’d “committed suicide”.
November 17, 2009 at 7:27 am
I like Palin, love the photo, but she has no chance of being the Republican nominee in 2012. I’d prefer to see her nominated for energy secretary.
November 17, 2009 at 8:12 am
She has a better chance than any other Repub out there now. The guys are all wet rags with nothing to offer, nothing! Sarah has been saying all the right things since she was tapped to the VP spot. She has a very strong backing from the base(teapartiers), and many, many Dem women voted for her in 08′ and will fight for her in 12′. I bet she will win it, if she chooses to run, and my money is on her running.
Her people may tell her to wait till 16′, but she has no desire to let Barry have 8 years to ruin us. She wants him out of there and she knows she can do it. She can get him out of that office, and run it better than he could ever dream of doing.
November 17, 2009 at 10:19 am
Personally, I like her chances in 2012, if she chooses to run. When Sarah is allowed to be Sarah, and not follow the line set out by the campaign of the person she is running with, she very much relates to Middle America.
However, I would love to see her run for the Alaska Senate seat in 2012. Get some experience there, get some more exposure, then go for it after 8 years of Romney or someone else in the GOP.
November 17, 2009 at 1:08 pm
So Alaskans liked the $2 million price tag they had to pay for all the unfounded ethics complaints? You don’t think they’d maybe be glad she saved them some more $$?? And that that might be a good attitude for someone to have in DC?
November 17, 2009 at 8:53 am
It was just last week that my husband sat through a diversity training session that discussed women in the workplace. My husband works in a very male dominated industry which is actively working toward involving more women. I laughed when we were discussing it because I said a woman would have a better shot in a male dominated industry than one rife with other women because, I believe, women are usually happy to diminish other women and work aggressively to stand in the way of another woman’s success.
November 17, 2009 at 10:34 am
We who love Sarah will have the last laugh….
November 17, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Garli…I hope you get to ‘hear’ Sarah’s interview with Rush Limbaugh today. AWESOME!!!
The transcripts should be up on his webpage. She spoke spontaneously and from the heart…and so intelligently discussed ACTUAL POLICY ISSUES.
More said in less than a half hour by Gov. Palin…than The Won has said in ten months.
November 17, 2009 at 11:01 am
Yes. I surely WILL commit to calling out sexism when I see it. I hope I always have. Back in the day–the days when I, as a conservative, supported including sex as a protected clause under Civil Rights, I saw the logical inconsistensies of the left-feminists and when I heard the conservatives use the same arguments (just subsituting different nouns for the same illogic), I argued against it.
So, yes. This conservative commits, and while I really don’t want you to stop (because I love your commentary), you do realize that commenting on Oprah’s looks, wig, weight….
November 17, 2009 at 11:56 am
A couple of points: I think the leftist media actually thinks that we SHOULD elect Palin in the primaries because they think she can’t win…and they think we’re too stupid to know she can’t win. I think it’s too early to decide who is going to run on the Republican side. I think the political atmosphere right now is so ugly that people in the middle (like us…Dems and Reps)are fed up and sick of it…so anything could happen. How great would it be for a Republican and a Democrat to come together on a ticket to run? The country does not need the far-left or the far-right to win. We need the people in the middle to come together so we can get good things done with good old fashioned compromise. We need laws to get lobbyists and interest groups OUT of the process…Why is SEIU at the White House EVERY WEEK?? Because the White House is paying them off to do their dirty mob work, break arms and send out obama-bots on the internet and play dishonest politics for power and money.
You know I’m not so naive not to realize we’ve had corruption in government since the beginning of time…but as a country the majority of people are honest and decent. It’s a matter of getting the majority to pay attention and act. We need to get billionaire Europeans a.k.a. George Soros OUT. If we the middle work at it I think we can accomplish things. Divided…we accomplish nothing.
November 17, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Just an FYI…for anyone who has a radio handy. Gov. Palin is on for one hour (staring now 1 p.m on the east coast) with Rush Limbaugh. Not everyones’ favorite host, I know…but he will be fair to Palin. She is on right now.
November 17, 2009 at 1:20 pm
Well said, Hillbuzz! It sickens me when people who still “listen” to the media accept these notions and opinions by default and become disgusting themselves. I’ve seen it in my own extended family, and I spoke out against it!
Keep up the good work!
November 17, 2009 at 1:52 pm
I just got done listening to the Palin interview (one half hour) on the Rush Limbaugh Show.
Gov. Palin said more, in terms of definitive policy in the 24 minutes she was on air with Rush, than Dr. Utopia has in ten months.
She (and Rush) used ‘Buzz’ words of ‘Annointed One(s)’ (political insiders, beloved by the media); and used the work, I love this, DITHER in terms of our foreign policy. She also stated ‘they are called ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS for a reason.’ And, in a ninja star, shanking thru the airwaves, called out (not a shout out mind you) ‘how difficult is it to understand that Drill Baby Drill makes us domestically more secure–NOT DEPENDENT on foreign governments for OUR energy?’ Aimed right at her VP rival, Joe ‘GaffeADay’ Biden.
And…this was all said, during an interview from a NYC hotel room on a phone line.
No ‘ahhhs, ummms’ or pauses for a Teleprompter to catch up. She speaks from her heart…so she DOESN’T NEED notes. She knows where she stands.
November 17, 2009 at 4:34 pm
There is a significant faction of America that will be probably cause the end of our country as we’ve all known and loved it.
This group, you being a prime example, seems to be experiencing a form a group psychosis. Paranoid, sarcastic, self-righteous, xenophobic. It’s positively frightening.
As the saying goes…”Jesus, please protect us from your followers”. You exhibit everything but “Christian” values.
Read your bible, indeed.

What? Is that a typo or are you accusing the people on this site? I don’t see “a group” on this site. I see people left, right, independent, religious, non-religious, gay, straight, who are sick of the people being brainwashed on each extreme side and the far-left media who aren’t listening to the MAJORITY…who are us =) There’s no hate on this site. Just reality.
November 17, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Paul,
WTF are you talking about?? This is absolutely THE most patchwork quilt of individuals I’ve seen in one place ever! The only thing in common is love of country, and on this thread, tremendous respect for HRC and SP.
November 17, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Refreshing read!
November 18, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I finally got over the FALSE stereotype I’d been carefully taught by liberals and embraced the GOP. Hubby and I are working with the local committee and they’re the nicest, most genuine bunch of people in the world. And I’ve yet to meet a single one who fits that old stereotype. It’s beyond ironic how the people who invented “political correctness” are the worst purveyors of close-minded and hurtful prejudice. I mourn for the years I spent weighed down by all the guilt and shame they push on everyone but themselves.
