Happy Indoctrination Day!

Happy Indoctrination Day!

How will you be celebrating Indoctrination Day today?

Today’s the day Dr. Utopia reaches into classrooms to touch the hearts and minds of young children everywhere. If you watch is speech, tell us what you thought of it here.  What do you think of politicians speaking to children like this, in general?

Personally, we think it’s grossly inappropriate…if ANY adult wants to address children as a captive audience, and speak directly to them, parents need to be present to make sure the children understand what is going on and answer any questions that come up. The setting is too rife with potential for indoctrination, no matter how subtle.  Small children, in particular, respond effectively to authority…and nothing could possibly more authoritarian than a political figure coming on a giant TV screen and telling a child what to do.  Even if nothing insidious is said in that particular message, it primes the child to sit quietly and obey in the future, having established the precedent that this sort of thing is acceptable, and that this politician in particular is allowed to speak to them, tell them what to do, when their parents are nowhere in sight.  We’ve seen enough public school teachers in action to know that a good many of them would not pull the plug on any future transmissions where a political speech indeed did cross the line into true, unalloyed indoctrination.

It’s  a slippery slope…and today Dr. Utopia does damage we won’t be able to fully appreciate for a while.

This is why, just a few years ago, that Democrats launched investigations and demanded oversight and checks and balances when President George H. W. Bush gave a speech to students.  Democrats audited the money spent on the speech and questioned the appropriateness of using classroom time to drop everything and listen to a politician speak directly to children without their parents present…so, in 1991, Democrats were against this enough to use Congressional committees to see that it didn’t happen again for a while…but in 2009, Democrats feel Dr. Utopia should be able to do as he pleases.

This is the root of the problem we have with the current incarnation of the Democratic Party.  Just like with the caucus and primary fraud Dr. Utopia committed…just like all his overseas campaign contributions…just like all of his race-baiting, his misogyny, and every other rotten thing he does…Democrats have completely changed who they are for this one man.  Dr. Utopia can do no wrong in Democrats’ eyes, even if that means Demcorats reverse long-held positions just to cover for him.

It’s a slippery slope.

Will Democrats ever rein Dr. Utopia’s ego in?  If so, will that happen before moderate Democrats abandon the party altogether and complete that transition to unaffiliated, independent status that’s been under way since May 31st, 2008?
