Here’s a new site that just popped up: FireDavidLetterman.com
Let’s be clear: we do not believe CBS will do to Letterman what NBC and the radio networks did to Don Imus. In the words of our current administration, Letterman is “too big to fail”.
However, the family-oriented advertisers who support his show, like MARS Candy, Kelloggs, Hellman’s Mayonnaise, Olive Garden, etc. spend millions of dollars to keep Letterman on the air.
It’s a valid question to ask every single C-suite exec (CEO, CFO, COO, CIO, etc.) and every member of their Boards of Directors why their company financially subsidizes the exploitation and brutalization of minors and the abominable “joking” about a 14 year-old being statutorily raped and forcibly impregnated by New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez.
And it’s important to let these advertisers know that by continuing to buy ad space on Letterman’s show at CBS, they condone his behavior and, like Letterman himself, believe the statutory rape of a 14 year-old is funny.
Is this what Olive Garden is about?
Is this what MARS Candy is about?
Is this why people should buy Hellmann’s Mayo — if they think rape is funny?
Articulate, one-page, well-reasoned letters to the family-oriented advertisers of Letterman’s program (focusing heavily on MARS, which we imagine makes almost all of its money catering to candy-loving children and teens…and Kelloggs, which dropped Michael Phelps like a rock after his bong hit controversy) won’t get Letterman kicked off the air…but it will hit CBS hard at a time when they need every cent they can get.
The goal should be to take down three of Letterman’s big advertisers — and it will take a month or so of sustained effort to do this. In the aftermath, CBS will be shaken to the core and changes will come at the network…including, PERHAPS, Letterman’s early retirement for health reasons as some point in 2010.
If we hurt CBS financially enough…maybe more will happen. But, let’s start with an obtainable goal to flex bipartisan muscle and do what Al Sharpton does so easily in his sleep whenever he leads the black community on one of his charges. Because there ain’t NOBODY better at shaking corporate America to the core than Al Sharpton in full-on race-baiting mode.
Sharpton could drag Letterman off the air like he did Don Imus — but unfortunately, corporate America isn’t as scared of women and the men who support them as the suits are of the black community and cries of RAAAAAAAAACISM!
That’s reality, folks.
But, if we all work together and focus on bringing down THREE BIG ADVERTISERS, we can take one big step towards making the MSM as scared of misogyny and sexism as they are about RAAAAAAAAACISM! cries.
Right now, we need the NAMES of the CEOs, COOs, CFOs, CIOs, etc. of all the family-oriented advertisers on Letterman. Don’t waste time going after every commercial you see — we need to focus.
If there are 30,000 people out there who will write a letter…and they send those letters to 100 different companies, then each company gets only 300 letters = not that big of an impact.
But, if MARS Candy, Kelloggs, and Olive Garden each get 10,000 letters sent to their C-suite execs, SOMEONE will pick up the phone, call Madison Avenue, and yank the Snickers ads from The Late Show with David Letterman.
We do not know how CBS can afford to lose three large sponsors in this economy. Currently, Letterman is a fatted cash cow bringing millions to the network. But, once he becomes a financial DRAIN on CBS, his days will be numbered.
So, getting him fired — in time — starts with taking down his advertisers now. It won’t be easy. CBS is telling the advertisers that this will all blow over in a few days, and that all these women and the men who support them will forget about this by next week.
Al Sharpton makes sure the black community doesn’t let up until he gets what it wants.
Can we, a coalition of moderate Hillary Dems, Independents, and Republicans of all stripes do the same thing and work together to take down THREE OF LETTERMAN’S BIGGEST ADVERTISERS?
Can we organize protests outside the Ed Sullivan Theater the way Sharpton would?
Can we protest outside MARS CANDY’S headquarters?
Can we picket our local Olive Gardens and get media attention for it wherever we live?
Al Sharpton would get all this done in his sleep.
Can we?
Sometimes the universe brings the wrong French toast, people. Letterman’s brutalization of Willow Palin is a cosmic test: are we a bunch of people who just like to sit on the Internet and talk, or can we mobilize and take action to defend women when they are attacked in sexist and misogynist terms by the MSM?
Are we made of strong enough mettle to go the distance, put the effort in, and turn CBS on its ear by convincing THREE OF ITS BIGGEST ADVERTISERS to cut their support to the network because of David Letterman’s horrific remarks?
It starts with research, research, research.
We need every executive and board member of Mars Candy, Kelloggs, Olive Garden, and Hellman’s that we can find. If you add them to this thread, we’ll create pages for each one and can then start focusing on a sustained month-long letter writing campaign to these four companies until we succeed in getting at least THREE of them to dump Letterman. Maybe we’ll get all four, who knows.
None of us are Al Sharpton. This isn’t how we operate — but there’s a challenge before us, with the absolute sickest display we have ever seen on television. And Letterman deserves to go down for this.
But he won’t unless we take his advertisers down first.
And that starts with research here and now.

In the state of Florida if a young adult has a sexual encounter with a teen whom he assumes to be 18, that is no excuse. The adult is supposed to know better. The adult will be labeled a sexual offender for the rest of his life.
It doesn’t matter if the teen looks 18, claims to be 18 on MySpace, says the encounter was consensual, none of that matters in a court of law. Trust me on this. We are well aware of just such a situation. The adult can’t say a thing because the adult is supposed to know better. The young adult will be restricted in where he can live and work for the rest of his life. For the rest of his life he will wear the label pervert.
What I’m suggesting, if in the real world saying “I thought she was 18” is no defense, why should we accept it as a sufficient excuse in the realm of vapid TV humor?
After all, what is the message Dave is sending to young adults? Oh, just tell them you thought she was 18. In the real world that is no defense. And it is no defense for vapid TV hacks.

nobody is too big to fall..lets take him down…
June 11, 2009 at 1:47 pm
If anyone happens to own stock in any of these companies, they might consider contacting the shareholders relations depts. as well. That is, if anyone in the US actually owns any stocks anymore….
June 11, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Many are asking for him to be fired.
And on another note for Hillary fans or those who are confused of what she’s up to.
Yes she should be President and allowed to have kept her winnings instead of being FORCED to give them to Barko.
Secretary Clinton is “the superstar of the Cabinet. Everything she touches is well run.”
Those flattering words, reported by USA Today, were spoken by Republican Rep. Mark Kirk (Ill.), who’s on the subcommittee that oversees the State Department.
Clinton told USA Today, “I feel very much in the center of helping to devise the policies, carry out the policies, pick the people who will implement the policies.”
Although the State Department’s special envoys sometimes get more attention than Clinton, it doesn’t mean Clinton isn’t working hard behind the scenes. Vice President Joseph Biden told USA Today, “[The president] listens to her as much or more than anybody. … She’s the main player … the one he looks to give the last wind-up pitch about what should be done.”
And, it was Clinton’s idea to appoint the special envoys. On This Week with George Stephanopoulos, she said, “I wanted special envoys, because we were inheriting so many hotspot problems that I knew you could never have one person possibly address all of that.”
Sounds like Clinton knows how to wisely delegate and manage a hefty workload! As Rep. Kirk said, “Everything she touches is well run.”
June 11, 2009 at 2:16 pm
Does that include the “reset” button she gave to her Russian counterpart?
June 11, 2009 at 2:55 pm
She was obviously annoyed that this prop was screwed up on the part of others. Sometimes I wondered if Obama staff is messing with her.
June 11, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Those where her people, not The Won’s. I’ll cut her some slack, that happened early on and I hope she learned her lesson: you’re the Secretary of State, you have more than a few folks who are fluent in the language du jour – let them earn their keep.
June 11, 2009 at 5:49 pm
IRA -
Be careful where you tread. We don’t tolerate anti-Hillary anything on this site. There are plenty of places to go to be a hater against HRC, and this is not one of them. Grow up: the reset thing you are blathering about boils down to two letters missing in a Cyrillic word. Unlike Dr. Utopia, HRC never claimed to speak any foreign languages — and unlike Dr. Utopia she never deliberately set out to offend or embarrass any world leaders. She certainly didn’t give anyone an ipod with her talking on it for hours. If you want to attack HRC, go to Daily Kos where you will certainly be welcomed.
Your brand of nonsense is not, however, welcome here.
June 11, 2009 at 2:20 pm
I think she’s doing a great job, and judging by her poll numbers, so does just about everyone else.
And the snark below about the reset button wasn’t neccessary. It was a mistake in translation. Hillary has never claimed to be perfect but she learns from her mistake. If that reset button thing is the biggest thing she’s done “wrong” I feel I have nothing to worry about.
Go Hillary! Keep us safe! And please try to help out those two journalists in N. Korea. I see the Gore-acle is doing nothing as usual even though they worked for him!
June 11, 2009 at 3:29 pm
I do think the reset button was a very poor mistake that can’t be minimized. However, I do NOT hold Hillary accountable for it.
Let us remind readers that Bill and Hillary were extremely gracious and classy in their international etiquette and gift giving arena. So were the Bushes.
It is Obama’s poorly run, trashy protocol ipod giving, lets touch the queen and bow sheiks office that is responsible.
I believe that Hillary was simply assuming that the same level of expertise that she and Bill employed would also be employed by the Obamas.
She was unfortunately poorly mistaken.
June 11, 2009 at 5:31 pm
And the snark below about the reset button wasn’t neccessary. It was a mistake in translation.
If that’s all it was, that still wouldn’t be ok. It isn’t like there’s no one at State that can’t read, write and speak Russian like a native.
And the mistake was compounded with Roman lettering and not Cyrillic? I’m just a dumb, clueless Aggie, but I know that if I want to impress a Russian, I use Cyrillic lettering.
And I’m sorry to point this out, and as much as I’d like to see Hillary make the Norks and the Iranians tremble in their boots, she serves at Dr. Utopia’s pleasure.
She’s not going to go too far off the teleprompter’s script. She isn’t ready to go back to Chappaqua and write books.
So far, the only people willing to risk the wrath of Dr. Utopia are not in government.

I am ready to die on this hill. It is one thing to go after Sarah and Hillary, but when Letterman went after Willow to hurt Sarah Palin, I had a viseral reaction. Don’t mess with a mother bear. I have been faxing, phoning and emailing all day and I will continue to until that gutter mouth David Letterman is OFF the air. Call to arms.
June 11, 2009 at 2:45 pm
You’re doing an amazing thing, HillBuzz. This conservative feminist thanks you!
June 11, 2009 at 2:52 pm
My belief in life is that we eventually become that which we condone. If these advertisers ignore or make excuses for this kind of behavior, then they will welcome their own set of negative consequences for doing so. No negative act is too small for us not to take a stand.
June 11, 2009 at 2:52 pm
Thank you guys so much for motivating me on this! I just sent my first letter to CBS and am now moving on to their sponsors.
I am so glad you guys are champions (with me) for what’s right!
June 11, 2009 at 3:06 pm
I got a very nice response from someone at my local CBS affiliate. I was told that letters will be forwarded to CBS, because mine was not the only one. There was an apology in the response as well. He also said that he thought that David Letterman crossed the line and thought that David Letterman would not like having that type of comment made about his son.
Just letting you know that the affiliates will respond when it hits their pocketbooks!

Apparently the Yankees are discussing how they want to handle it right now. So it has at least been brought to the attention of their management.

This is the link to the FCC complaint website. http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
File a complaint against Letterman. I just did. I also called the Mars Company and left my comments. I used the 800 number, so my comments will just go to the marketing department. Still, marketing buys the ad time…
June 11, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Thanks for the link! Very easy to use! I just filed my complaint, which read:
“On June 9, David Letterman made disgusting remarks (a “joke”) about the statutory rape of a 14 year old girl, specifically, Willow Palin. These comments were extremely offensive by any standard of decency. On June 10, under the guise of “clarifying” his comments, Mr. Letterman actually repeated the offensive jokes and did not apologize for them. I do not watch television to hear 62-year old men make “jokes” about having sex with 14 year old girls and hope that you will see fit to sanction Mr. Letterman, his network, and his affiliates appropriately. Thank you for your concern.”
June 11, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Thanks for this fcc link. I just left this comment for them: David Letterman made sexually disgusting and suggestive remarks insinuating what amounts to statutory rape of Willow Palin, 14 year old daughter of Governor Sarah Palin, on June 9th. On the following night he again makes insinuations about Willow Palin involving former Gov. Spitzer. Mr. Letterman now makes the lame excuse, in the poorest attempt at an apology I’ve ever heard, saying he actually meant to refer to Gov. Palin’s daughter Bristol, age 18. So, rather than a ‘joke’ about statutory rape & impregnation of a 14 year old, it’s okay because it was intended to reference an 18 year old? The term “knocked-up” is foul no matter how you cut it and it certainly isn’t funny when used in connection with insinuated rape. David Letterman crossed the line of decency into vile when he brought Sarah Palin’s children, regardless of their ages, into his political vendetta with Sarah Palin. I hope at the very least he and CBS are sanctioned and at the very best that you take him and his foul, slanderous ‘jokes’ off the air permanently.”
June 11, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Got nice reply from Ancestry.com stating they do not intentionally purchase ads for Letterman – tweeted to MSGREEN who is M&M Mars on Twitter but no response yet – Best Western was snippy in their answer to me so I answered them back aout ‘late night’ block ads.

I think it just might.

“Letterman joked that a Palin daughter, presumably Bristol, 18, had sex with New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez during a baseball game the ex-vice presidential candidate attended.”
Letterman joked about the daughter that accompanied Gov Palin was her 14 yr old daughter, Willow. One would think that a purported news agency would be able to get its facts correct.
June 11, 2009 at 4:44 pm
While we are all at this, why not do some work on Kathleen Parker over her “Palin asked for it” comments? No one – irrespective of age or sex — asks to be raped or insulted or condemned as slutty! Kathleen Parker is an insult to women – her attitude is demeaning and sexist – this has gone way way beyond mere politics and we need to actively not take it from anbyone anywhere who continues with such degrading comments on personal levels about anyone. Can Kathleen Parker stand to have her personal life gone over in minute detail, hmmmmmmm? None of this was a joke!

Actually, an appeal to their own employees to complain would have greater impact. These corporations have zero tolerance sexual harrasment polices. If anyone at the workplace in any of these companies repeated that joke and an employee went to HR, there would be an investigation and a dismissal. In a sense, Letterman acts as an employee of these companies by hawking their products. The companies legally must abide by their own policies in every circumstance.
June 11, 2009 at 6:14 pm
Just sent them this:
I understand that you are a major sponsor of “Late Night with David Letterman.” Do you support Mr. Letterman’s recent disgusting “jokes” about the statutory rape of a 14 year old girl? I certainly hope not. I hope to see soon that you have withdrawn your support of Letterman’s program and issue some kind of statement condemning his obscene and tasteless remarks. Thank you so very much for all of the links to Olive Garden, the FCC, etc. I have already sent a note of disgust to the FCC. I am going to copy all of the email addresses and send polite but forceful letters stating my disgust with David Letterman’s comments, and mention that I will be boycotting their products/restaurants/etc. until they pull their advertising from the David Letterman show.

The New Agenda and Meghan McCain speak out about Letterman:
http://blogs.reuters.com/fanfare/2009/06/11/confused-david-letterman-backs-down-over-palin-daughter-jokes/
Writing on the news blog The Huffington Post, Amy Siskind, co-founder of women’s advocacy group The New Agenda, wrote that Letterman’s jokes about Willow should be cause for concern for conservatives and non-conservatives alike, and that some in the media apply a double-standard by not voicing concern about sexism applied to conservatives like Palin.
“… When Governor Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter is the subject of a degrading and humiliating joke by David Letterman, how can we let this be part of our culture?” Siskind wrote.
Another political offpring, Meghan McCain, also chimed in, declaring Letterman’s comments “disgusting and sexist.” (McCain’s father, U.S. Sen. John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate in his campaign for the White House last year.)
June 11, 2009 at 6:31 pm

Matt Lauer Gets Exclusive Live Interview With Gov. Sarah Palin
Where will Gov. Sarah Palin make her first televised response to David Letterman? NBC’s Today show.
Matt Lauer interviews Palin live tomorrow morning on Today. Palin will be live from Texas, where she made an announcement today regarding the Alaska pipeline project. The NBC release says Palin will talk about the pipeline, “her thoughts on the direction of the GOP, and she will address the recent controversy involving David Letterman and her family.”
Lauer last interviewed Palin in November
June 11, 2009 at 7:36 pm
The heinous part is not that Gutterman was suggesting Willow was raped but rather she willingly had sex because all Palin women ar sluts. Evidently, teenagers who abort unplanned babies are virtuous and those who choose to keep them are whores. Not all of us wait to 60 to reproduce. Rent Juno, Dave, if you can manage without humping the television, you unfunny hack with perverted writers.
June 11, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Letter sent to Olive Garden (among others):
By continuing to advertise on a show that promotes child rape, you diminish the image of your company a great deal. In these tough economic times when people are eating out less, the choice of where to go can very much be influenced by the image a company projects. Your restaurants have always been “family friendly” but you advertise on a show that promotes violence against children. I suggest you review your media plan and find outlets better suited to your company policies as this one is surely not it. Until then I will not patronize your restaurants (sadly as we have always liked them) and will encourage my family and friends to do the same. I can give up your great breadsticks because this is just too important, this kind of behavior cannot and should not be tolerated by American citizens. You have a right to advertise on a show that promotes criminal behavior toward children and I have a right eat out elsewhere.
Thanks for listening.

I can’t guarantee that I didn’t miss any but these should be the brands for Darden Brands, MARS BRANDS, UNILEVER BRANDS and Kelloggs. This is a good start to send to people in your email address book so that they know which products to avoid buying. I also included this list in the letters that I sent out to impress upon the sponsors that I am familiar with their products.

GOOD NEWS!!! Here is the reply I got from Hellmann’s:
Hello Renee,
Thank you for contacting us regarding your disappointment with the program content which contained a commercial for a Unilever product. We never wish to offend anyone and your opinions are appreciated regarding this subject matter. Advertising for Hellmann’s or media buys are done months in advance and unfortunately we can’t foresee issues in the media before they come up. We appreciate the feedback from our consumers and we’ve decided to pull our online ads from the Letterman show from our advertising schedule moving forward.
We hope that this information has given you a better understanding of our advertising practices. Thank you again for taking the time to share your views with us. You can be assured that your comments will be considered as we continue to challenge our perceptions about what is appropriate for us in today’s environment.
Kind regards,
Your friends at Hellmann’s/Best Foods
Warren Blume
