What happened to that Red State v. Blue State American Idol meme?

Posted at May 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

This is funny today because the MSM had been building up a whole Red State v. Blue State meme in terms of the American Idol finale, trying to make it into another jab at Dr. Utopia’s opponents, pretending American has been completely Utopia-ized and that Republicans, conservatives, and moderates don’t exist anymore.

Many, many, many articles we read leading up to last night’s Idol finale painted Adam Lambert from California as the blue “Dr. Utopia candidate” while Kris Allen from Arkansas was the red “McCain candidate”.  Of course, with the “youth vote” skewing so strongly towards Dr. Utopia, the MSM claimed, and the “youth vote” being so adept at text messaging and using cell phones, Lambert would win in a landslide and further prove that this is now The Golden Age of Hope and Change with few people liking anything at all that’s moderate or conservative.

Well, Kris Allen whalluped Adam Lambert, because Lambert was just too strange for most of America.  We live in Boystown and see an awful lot of strange day in and day out, and totally saw a win for Allen coming, no matter how much the MSM claimed “because of the current president’s win last year, it is clear his demographics will push Allen to victory”.

Keep being stupid like that, MSM, so you can fall over yourselves in surprise in 2010 when Democrats receive “stunning” losses in Congress, including Harry Reid and Chris Dodd losing their Senate seats and Pelosi being ousted as Speaker (if she hasn’t already by then).

We haven’t watched American Idol in years, since Fantasia Barrino, who claimed she was illiterate on the show, released a book she also claimed to have written, about her illiteracy.  That was it for us with this show, because no matter how wonderful of a niche singer ‘Tasia is, we still can’t wrap our head around how someone who can’t read can write books (wait, are we talking about an American Idol contestant or the current Speaker of the House?).

But we do think it’s fascinating that the media salivated over a Lambert win, and had everything prepped to use that win to take a shot at Republicans, but today the MSM pretends none of that Red State v. Blue State stuff ever happened.  There’s very limited coverage of Allen’s win, and absolutely no mention of the previous political comparisons.

And that much-vaunted youth vote?  That is the most apocryphal nonsense in a media steeped in ridiculousness. Every four years, we keep hearing about “the youth vote” and 2008 should be the end of this once and for all:  the “youth” didn’t turn out to vote for Dr. Utopia anymore than they turned out to vote for Kerry or Gore.  The supposedly Democrat-loving “youth vote” didn’t drive home a win for Democrat Lambert on American Idol.  If the “youth” are supposedly so Utopia-ized, and the “youth” are supposed to do everything he wants, and he would presumably want Lambert to win, then why did Allen win?

Because people think for themselves and don’t drink Kool-Aid all day.

AND this is just a TV show and not a barometer of anything but the show’s own popularity.

Boys who wear makeup might end up getting to date the quarterback (happens all the time in Boystown), but they aren’t going to win American Idol (hear that, Charlie Crist, and your presidential exploratory committee?).

Black politicians slowly waking up to a new "post-racial" reality

Posted at May 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

This is something that will evolve over the next few years that we find fascinating and remarkable: black politicians, relgious leaders, and downright race-baiters like Al Sharpton et al. are slowly waking up to the reality that none of their old tricks are going to work anymore.

Jesse Jackson Jr., here in Chicago, seems positively stunned he’s being called out on his bad behavior as of late:  something unthinkable just a year or so ago, when race-baiting was a threat used effectively to keep scrutiny at bay.  Get to close to calling a corrupt black politician or holy man out, and bellows of RAAAAAACIST! filled the air.

We have good friends in the black community here in Chicago who noted a month or so ago that the very worst thing the black community ever did for itself was dumping all of their eggs into Dr. Utopia’s basket, without realizing he was never going to do anything for them in return.  ”White guilt” was always something the black community effectively used in its favor — and the threat of calling someone racist for standing in the way of something the black community wanted was a real and well-used tool in their community’s repertoire.  But, shouting RAAAACIST!  RAAAAACIST! RAAAAAAAACIST! doesn’t work anymore.  There is a black president now, and thus black people can — as evidence attests — reach the highest pinnacles of our society and can indeed live in the White House.  Claiming “the man” holds you back no longer works when you are now “the man”.

Jesse Jackson Jr. is being investigated for giving his wife close to $250,000 in campaign funds.  John Edwards is being investigated for giving his mistress approximately the same amount of money (or possibly even more).  Two crooks of different colors being investigated by the government.  This is post-racial equality, people, where both are being held to the same standard for their despicable behavior.

And Jackson, for one of the first times in his life, is not able to scream RAAAAACIST! and get away with this anymore.

White guilt was all used up in 2008. That is not 100% clear yet, but will be soon enough.  As more time goes on with Dr. Utopia in the White House and Mrs. Utopia on the cover of just about every magazine imaginable, it will be interesting to see what happens to the black community now that its most effective tool has been rendered moot and useless in this new Golden Age of Hope and Change.  Without the constant fear of being called a racist, perhaps now people who normally would have looked the other way whenever Jackson or some other black politician had ethical problems will instead critically ask what he was indeed up to.  Without white guilt to keep them quiet, maybe now more people will tell Al Sharpton to shut the F up whenever he launches into one of his incredulous rages.  Most harmful to the black community of all, and something we still think is about 10 years away, is the day when Americans at large believe the black community should be on its own, without any more excuses, because no one is holding them back but themselves.

When the next generation of voters comes of age, having lived through the Golden Age and remember Dr. Utopia’s term as president, how will they reconcile having a black president with the black community’s continued insistence that they are being held back and need affirmative action and other government support?  How can victimhood be reconciled with the Utopia presidency?  Why didn’t Dr. Utopia solve the black community’s problems, when he told he world he had the power to lower the oceans, fix the holes in the ozone, and save the planet from global warming?

Ironically, the people who race-voted in unprecedented numbers to send Dr. Utopia to the White House are the ones who will, in the end, have lost all their mojo and favorite political tools because his “historic presidency” means race-baiting’s effectiveness is now indeed history.

There’s a very good chance Jesse Jackson Jr. could go to jail for either his campaign finances or his attempted purchase of the Illinois Senate seat.  If that happens, so unthinkable just a year or so ago, the look on his face will be priceless…as will Al Sharpton’s and the other race-baiters’ when they all realize they unintentionally contributed to the changing of all the tired old rules.

Free advice for Republicans: keep listening to Michael Steele in terms of this administration

Posted at May 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

This is something we’re putting out there for Republicans, because it’s something we have not only seen clearly ourselves, but it’s something we have also been told to do: do not get personal in terms of your criticism of this White House or this particular president (or his wife).  Keep hammering at what he is doing to this country, but don’t for a moment repeat what Gingrich and the Contract with America Republicans did to the Clintons in the 90s.  If you want to limit Dr. Utopia to a single term, the focus needs to be on his broken promise and undelivered Hope! and Change!

There is a very specific reason why we no longer use the current president or his wife’s name anymore.  They are just the current president and the current first lady.  Dr. Utopia’s followers love him without knowing anything about him — that will not ever change. Issues like his birth certificate, his natural-born v. naturalized status, his drug abuse (and possible drug selling), his nocturnal activities in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood, his pay-to-play schemes in Chicago, his Rezko dealings, his time at a hatemongering church…absolutely none of this means anything to the people who still walk around with big O’s on their shirts or glued to their cars.  If anything, personal criticisms of this man only make his Kool-Aid soaked followers adore him all the more.

Because they are not acting on a rational, logical level:  they are acting on an emotional one.  So, engaging them on this level is not only futile, but destructive to the goal of limiting him to one term.

Michael Steele gets this and the rest of you need to get this too.  Saying the current president’s name aloud is magic to some people.  They love the sound of those three syllables.  It makes people like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann positively orgasmic.  You do not need to contribute to that particular circle of MSM sycophants by drawing anymore personal attention to this current president than is necessary.  TIME magazine this week will feature the current first lady, again, making it the 17th cover in the last year that time has devoted to either of the current occupants of the White House.

If you allow the MSM to continue on as the propaganda wing of this administration, the market will naturally correct itself.  The MSM is usually two or three steps behind the general public — people abandon fads faster than the publishing industry can realize.  That’s why there’s alway so many leftover Tiger Beat magazines worshipping boy bands or pubescent tween stars whose 15 minutes expired between the time the rags went to print and when they were stocked on the grocery store shelves.

The 1990s are a great example of how Republicans shoot themselves in the foot by knee-jerk name calling and with personal attacks. The nonstop assault on Hillary Clinton is part of the reason why she not only ran for the Senate in 2000, but won handily.  The attacks elevated First Lady Clinton to major player status in the administration — and made the American public see her as a powerful figure in her own right, instead of just the wife of the president.  The attacks that helped HRC the most were the ones that constantly asked, “Who ever elected you to anything?”.  So, you know what, when 2000 rolled around and she ran for office, many votes backed her so she could answer that question with a resounding THE PEOPLE OF NEW YORK ELECTED ME, THAT’S WHO.  Clinton went on to win re-election to the Senate easily, and then won more votes in a party’s nomination process than anyone in history (18 million+, beating the Democrats’ eventual nominee in vote count despite everything including the kitchen sink being thrown at her by the DNC, the MSM, and the Utopia campaign combined).

Without the Republicans’ constant personal attacks on the Clintons, who knows what would have happened.  We believe in HRC more than anyone, so maybe she would have still run for president someday, but we don’t know how she would have gotten into the Senate and gotten to where she is today — a woman we are certain we will be canvassing, phone-banking, and campaigning for again in the next few years…for SOMETHING.

We truly do not want to see Mrs. Utopia garner the same attention or win the same opportunities in the future. We remember in the 80s when girls in our class liked the New Kids on the Block or Milli Vanilli or whomever, and other kids made fun of them, those girls just clutched even tighter to their Blame It On the Rain cassettes, shouting, “No! Of course they aren’t lip-synching!  You’re just jealous!  You raaaaaaaacists!”.

If the girls had been allowed to let their irrational crushes on empty suits play out naturally, Blame It On the Rain would have been in the trash bin much, much sooner — because all the attacks on their crush forced the girls to hang onto it much longer than they typically would have.

We have just 3 years for the celebrity infatuation with the current first family to end so that a competent chief executive can be elected in 2012 to replace Dr. Utopia.  We want him and his wife to retire to Honolulu, where both will most likely enjoy 30 years or so of absolute wealth and luxury, traveling the world, giving speeches, having terrorists like William Ayers ghost write books for them, and commissioning famous drag designers like Jason Wu to create horrible couture the MSM will always rave about.

Dr. Utopia will not be replaced if Republicans repeat the mistakes of the 90s.

Now, when Hillary Clinton runs for office again, forget everything we said above, because we will then want Republicans to be as stupid as possible and make all of their same mistakes that will benefit HRC immensely.  We count on and look quite forward to that.  But, in the meantime, we would love the GOP to wise up and listen to Michael Steele.

Steele gets it.

Sarah Palin gets it.  Do you see how effectively she hammers the administration’s ridiculous decisions and lurches towards socialism?  Dispassionate, reasoned, nonemotional, just bit by bit chipping away at all of the promises Dr. Utopia made and broke, exposing the reality behind the campaign rhetoric.  Remaining respectful and articulate and always making it hard for the Kool-Aid Gang to swing back at her.

The liberal left, however, smack Palin with ever-increasingly more ridiculous personal attacks, name-calling, and disgusting caricatures.  Just like they did to Hillary Clinton!  And every day, these clowns make Palin more powerful without ever realizing it.  The liberal left of 2009 has so much in common with the religious right of the 1990s it is not even funny.  All of that irrational hate, misplaced anger, and venom, all directed at a single woman they’ve decided to make their enemy.

And the thing is — instead of an unelected first lady who needed to first spend time in the Senate before running for president, the left is foolish enough to lionize a sitting governor who’s already run for Vice President.  If they keep this up for three years, and every day their attacks bring more people over to Palin’s side, the sky is the limit in terms of where this woman can go.

The last thing any of us need is for the left’s foolhardy attacks on Palin, Steele, and other good guys on the GOP side to be mitigated by similarly stupid attacks on the current first family by the right.

Let the MSM drive itself into the ground with constant praise of the Utopias that the public will soon get so tired of they’ll start reading Jane Austen and Mark Twain again, just to get away from the drivel of American pop culture.  Heck, there could be Shakespeare festivals and Emily Dickenson appreciation days every week at the rate the MSM will alienate people from the newsstands and television if it is nonstop Utopia 24/7 for the next 3 years.

The public sure got tired of the nonstop Bush cheerleading that followed 9/11.  These things come in cycles, and the bean counters at the networks know narrative change is needed to hold the ADD public’s interest.  If Republicans listen to Steele and keep the focus on the lack of change and all the broken promises, the 2010 elections could be an absolute nightmare for Democrats, with the 2012 race being a complete blowout.

There are many variables between now and then…but one thing anyone who wants Dr. Utopia defeated can do is to stop using his real name so that it loses its power, refrain from saying anything personal about him or Mrs. Utopia, and hit the current administration’s policies hard while referring only to “the POTUS”, “the current president”, “the White House”, etc.

Psychologically, it will work wonders, so we hope you listen (and then promptly forget all this when we’re backing a Democrat we love and we need you to go back to being the bumbling Republicans of the 90s who only make us stronger with your attacks).

Thursday Open Thread

Posted at May 21, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

What’s on your mind this Thursday morning?

(1) One of the things we are absolutely fascinated by is former Vice President Cheney’s outspokenness of late.  He’s actually doing a speech on anti-terrorism techniques to cancel out Dr. Utopia’s speechifying in the same meme, on the same day.  Why?  As sitting VP, Cheney disappeared for months at a time. We’ve heard him speak more in the last three weeks than we did in the last three years. Why?  We have two theories:

(a) This is a trap for Democrats set by the GOP, and specifically Michael Steele, who smartly bet that Dems will fall for it and use the MSM to continue to attack Cheney as the great villain…and if these keeps up for 4 years, then it’s a boon for the GOP contenders in 2012, as the Democrats just spent 4 years looking backwards to Cheney when they should have been focused on the new group of challengers emerging.

(b) Cheney receives daily security briefings and knows the current administration is putting Americans in grave danger with its persistent naiveity.  So, Cheny is speaking out because he is trying to stop a catastrophe.

There are probably options c-z as well, so help us think of them.  What do you think Cheney is doing, and who’s put him up to doing it?
