While millions of Americans scrape together what little they can for food, gas, childcare, healthcare, and rent, it’s party time at the White House almost every night. Last night, Obama hosted a St. Patrick’s Day party in honor of Prime Minster Cowen and his wife, which has been called “rambunctious” in most descriptions.
During his remarks, Obama’s teleprompter veered off course, mixing up his and Cowen’s speeches, so both looked equally foolish delivering the other’s speech.
Just imagine if this had happened while George W. Bush was President. The media would have been all over the fact that during this teleprompter glitch, Obama thanked himself for inviting everyone to the party at the White House. Bush would have been excoriated for something like that.
Additionally, toward the end of his remarks, Obama claimed Guinness “tastes different in Ireland” and that the Irish “keep the good stuff for themselves”.
When has Obama ever been to Ireland? Last summer, he went to London as part of his summer campaign swing through Europe, but we don’t believe Ireland was a stop on that particular Rainbow Tour. In 2006, he campaigned for his cousin Raila Odinga in Kenya, as a United States Senator, but it’s unlikely whatever flight he took to Africa stopped off in Ireland along the way. Previous trips he took to Pakistan and other places in his youth also would not have included layovers in Ireland.
So, when did he go there? When did he realize Guinness “tastes different in Ireland”?
Once again, this is the sort of thing the MSM would have been all over George W. Bush for, but Obama gets a free pass on.
March 18, 2009 at 8:49 am
Rush Limbaugh made a funny, can’t remember exactly how it went. He said something like, you can’t blame Obama for what he says. The teleprompter told him to say it. anyway, the real president is Axelrod. He is more Obama’s brian than rove ever was for Bush.
March 18, 2009 at 9:11 am
Jack – As hilarious as it sounds, I would not at all be surprised if one day he says that his teleprompter is to be blamed! These people will show you what an abdication of responsibility is all about.
March 18, 2009 at 9:50 am
Yeah, Rush has stopped offering to debate Obama and is now offering to debate the Teleprompter LOL.
And the corrupt MSM insists the comedy shows can’t parody The Zero because there’s nothing funny about him. Riiiight.
March 18, 2009 at 10:25 am
That made me giggle out loud- thanks for the smile!
March 18, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Today, I heard Rush refer to the TOTUS (Teleprompter Of The United States).
Too good.
March 18, 2009 at 1:25 pm
snort! I really have to listen to Rush. Does he have a podcast available?
March 18, 2009 at 1:47 pm
LOL, Rush is certainly making the most out of The Zero’s attacks on him.
As unseemly as it is for a POTUS to attack private citizens, at least Rush is having fun with it.
March 18, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Perries,
You can listen to Rush (or almost anyone else) by going here, 12-3 Eastern time every weekday.
http://www.talkstreamlive.com/
Rush reruns most all day Sunday, too. Refresh the link every hour to see “what’s on right now.”
March 18, 2009 at 4:45 pm
I think they should name the teleprompter HAL.
March 18, 2009 at 4:47 pm
I heard Rush say TOTUS and almost ran off the road I was laughing so hard.
What would we do without Rush at this dark, scary, time?
March 18, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Another way the MSM makes itself irrelevant since the internet is busting at the virtual seams with humor on this administration. Americans – stepping up to fill the comedy, mocking and ridicule leadership vacuum.
btw, ugh that picture. How can you be looking down your nose while you are sitting down, mein gott!
March 18, 2009 at 6:09 pm
The MSM is right for once ….. there is nothing funny about him, it’s too pathetic to be funny.
March 18, 2009 at 8:52 am
Obama is a joke and embarrassment to our country. I see him on TV and just shut it off. He makes me sick to my stomach.
March 18, 2009 at 9:10 am
Fae – I completely echo what you say. Thanks for your expression!
March 18, 2009 at 3:22 pm
I cannot listen to him for more than 2 seconds. I did enjoy the video of him bopping his head on the chopper, however….hilarious. Mr. Cool himself!!
March 18, 2009 at 4:55 pm
The only way I can stand to listen to BO is with Rush making fun of him in the back ground.
BO is so self righteous he makes my skin crawl. And don’t get me started on Barney Frank!!!!!!
Rush referred to this administration as the “gang who couldn’t shoot straight” an apt description but much more serious.
March 18, 2009 at 10:33 pm
What ticks me off the most is His Majesty appearing on Jay Leno (how unprofessional) and making a big scene to fill out his March Madness bracket. Glad to know you’re taking care of business, Barry.
Every time Bush flubbed a speech, mispronounced a word or ANYTHING the media was all over him. “How can we have a president who can’t pronounce ‘Ahmadinejad’?!?!?!?! Impeach him!!!!!” But the Messiah does this and, “Oh, isn’t he so laid-back and cooooool!!!!!” Geez, where are the drool buckets when you need them?!?!?!
You mean, when The One speaks you don’t hear celestial choirs, either? Gee, what’s going on?!?!?!
March 18, 2009 at 9:02 am
Someone needs to punch the arrogance out of O’scripted’s smug visage. How anyone with half a brain can’t see him for what he is is beyond me. It’s as plain as the stuck-up nose on his conceited face!
He makes my blood BOIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 18, 2009 at 9:13 am
Way to go! I thought I was the only one who was bugged by that expression. At least I know that it’s not just me! As I have read elsewhere, Obama is continuing on this campaign mode, and his followers are calling this leadership?
March 18, 2009 at 1:26 pm
his followers are braindead morons.
March 18, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Hey, Perries!
Funny you should refer to the BO followers as “braindead morons.”
Rush critics keep saying that we are his legion of “mind-numbed robots” who are given talking points every day.
I’d put the intellectual knowledge of everything BO has done to this country thus far, up against ANYTHING obots have to say. Speaking of that. . .where is Matt these days?? Guess his conversion to a normal conservative/libertarian is on pause!
March 18, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Oops, meant to say “I’d put the HILLBUZZERS’ intellectual knowledge of everything BO has done to this country, up against anything Obots have to say.”
March 18, 2009 at 5:07 pm
One big fat difference between teleprompter talking points and Rush fans.
We are not told what say or think. The TRUTH is reported with commentary and we make decisions, draw conclusions for ourselves, along with having a laugh or two along the way.
God Bless Rush, Glenn Beck, and O’Reilly.
March 18, 2009 at 9:48 am
Count me in as bugged by that smug look on his mug.
March 18, 2009 at 9:53 am
Me, too.
March 18, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Yeah, the first thing I noticed in the photo was the imperious nose in the air. If he holds it in any higher he’s going to fall over backwards.
March 18, 2009 at 2:41 pm
and if it rains..he would drown for sure…
March 18, 2009 at 4:20 pm
LOL!!!
March 18, 2009 at 5:09 pm
You guys crack me up! Oh, and I agree 100%.
March 18, 2009 at 3:07 pm
For the life of me, I can’t see what he has to be stuck up about. What has he done except window dressing jobs, where others do the real work and he takes the credit. The man is an embarrassment to himself and if he weren’t so conceited, he would take himself off the world stage, where he most assuredly does not belong. The real leaders around the world know how to accomplish things, not just talk about them. Obama is nothing more than an actor playing a role, and none too well, since the public are growing wearing of his ’sameness’.
How many more times is Obama going to blame someone else for his and his administration’s failings?
March 18, 2009 at 3:29 pm
He is a classic narcissist. They are never wrong, and become enraged when challenged.
March 18, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Agreed! The fact is, he truly believes that he’s got this magical power that others have been talking about. When no one ever dares to question him about his actions, he has come to believe that he is supernatural in what he does. He doesn’t have a clue about how polarizing he is and how stuck up and arrogant he carries himself.
March 18, 2009 at 5:12 pm
He doesn’t even qualify as an actor. He’s an under study at best. Maybe he can try out for the part when he grows up.
March 18, 2009 at 9:15 am
Tammy Bruce has a link to the Chicago Sun Times complete guest list.
I’m not certain if this is petty, or not. The MSM often criticized GWBush for purportedly being anti-social & not hosting enough parties. I’m not certain if they were acting like Briar Rabbit in this regard, encouraging him to host parties so they could’ve turned around criticized him for being a frivolous, social butterfly. Presumably, networking & schmoozing is part & parcel of being a politician.
March 18, 2009 at 9:41 am
By now shouldn’t they realize that the teleprompter is the most important device in the White House. They should only allow their best and brightest set up the thing.
I’m wondering –
Was it Geithner’s birthday so they let him play with the toys?
Have they been unable to fill that all-important position of teleprompter czar because of the best candidate was a kinda challenged by tax software?
March 18, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Funny FLMom. After that incident last night, a teleprompter czar will soon be appointed.
March 18, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Thanks Michl, that was laugh out loud.
March 18, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Do you think they have it insured?
March 18, 2009 at 3:43 pm
FLMom, you are a better comedy writer than anyone now working for Letterman.
March 18, 2009 at 10:18 am
Obama got Schooled in Indonesia when no American could get free education there, he also went to Pakistan when no American could enter, so who knows where he has been?
It is just one lie after another, and only on this page, fox news and Drudge do u hear these stories.
March 18, 2009 at 10:18 am
And George Bush, being the classy guy he is, refused to criticize Obama. After all the dirt the Dems and the MSM and Obama himself threw at him.
March 18, 2009 at 11:35 am
Bush declined to critique the Obama administration in Tuesday’s speech in Canada, saying the new president has enough critics and that he “deserves my silence.”
“I love my country a lot more than I love politics,” Bush said. “I think it is essential that he be helped in office.”
Classier than me, that’s for sure.
March 18, 2009 at 11:51 am
This outlook also partially accounts for why McCain lost.
Remember on the campaign trail, he passed up MANY opportunities to expose Obama & what his socialist policies would actually do to America. Now that the horse is out of the barn, so to speak, McCain is taking BO to task. Too little, too late.
As a rule, GOP politicians tend to be “gentlemen.” Dubya is honoring the past tradition of former presidents never openly criticizing their successors. Although Jimmy Carter certainly has no compunction about bashing & upstaging everyone who came after him.
Dubya, especially, has an almost King Solomon approach to speaking out about Obama. He would rather give the baby to the “fake mother” than have it cut in two. Read the Old Testament account if you don’t know what I’m referring to!
March 18, 2009 at 12:44 pm
NeeNee, nice reference to King Solomon, good analogy! And you nailed it, Bush is respecting the tradition of not critiquing your successor, even as Obama continues (in perpetual campaign mode) to bash Bush.
I already miss Bush’s almost inhuman stoicism towards the hatred he faced.
March 18, 2009 at 1:29 pm
truly it can be said that I never appreciated Pres. Bush II until he was almost out of office.
March 18, 2009 at 1:49 pm
This line jumped out at me as being in the spirit of Hillbuzz:
“I love my country a lot more than I love politics,” Bush said.
March 18, 2009 at 5:24 pm
It brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat when I read these words from Bush and think of how horribly he was treated.
I’m glad Carl Rove is out there almost every night letting BO and his merry band of cheats and robbers have it in 4 part harmony.
March 18, 2009 at 10:20 am
London. Ireland. What’s the difference? They both have White people and all Whites look alike to chimps like Obama.
As for the teleprompter episode – the teleprompter was definitely racist. I’m not sure how an inanimate piece of equipment can be racist, but that must be it.
March 18, 2009 at 11:27 am
how can there be a couple of posters with the SN Lyn? I’m the one that usuaully posts and I believe I also saw a Lyn with a blue avatar.
March 18, 2009 at 10:42 am
UGG Obama has that smug nose in the air I’m too good for you, look on his face in that picture that first made me really dislike him.
March 18, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Look up some pictures of Mussolini in the 1930’s-40’s.Look familiar?
March 18, 2009 at 11:05 am
Are you sure that obama is not a robot? He just may be programed…and some of the wires get shorted.
March 18, 2009 at 4:46 pm
He is not a robot.
He is merely a puppet!
For Soros most likely.
March 18, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Think it’s amusing that this administration is now backpedaling on making veterans’ private insurance reiumburse the government. Public outrage and the outspoken interview Rehbein gave is undoubtedly the reason why.
My relatives in the military say the next thing BO will target is to make military families pay part of their health care and retirement. While this may not sound unreasonable to some, you must take into account military income–especially enlisted, non-officers. Under Clinton, they were on food stamps! Bush got them sizeable pay increases so this shameful practice was no longer necessary. Salaries for those who protect & defend us from terrorists don’t come CLOSE to private sector pay.
Greater goal is to eliminate the Veterans Hospitals, and many military hospitals, rolling them into a National Health Service as has been done in Britain. Field hospitals for the military would exist; but when wounded servicemen were sent home they would have to go to local Government facilities. This plan would, of course, eliminate private & employer-provided insurance for military families, speeding the move to socialized medicine.
Still another reason for young folks to avoid military service. Could this be part of BO’s ultimate strategy to weaken us??
He finds it necessary to carve away at Veterans’ benefits, while simultaneously finding funds for Gaza terrorists.
March 18, 2009 at 1:32 pm
yes – the funds for Gaza at the same time as cruel skinflinty stinginess to our brave sacrificing veterans – that is the insult on top of the injury.
March 18, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Nee nee: no explanation necessary.
We know our soldiers are underpaid and underappreciated. They should never be made to want for anything! The thought of their having to pay even a penny for healthcare sickens me. We should honor and care for the brave Americans who defend us around the world and at home. Period.
March 18, 2009 at 12:43 pm
Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance. …
It is disgusting at the amount of money getting spent on stupid crap. Yet, he wants to have our veterans pay for their service again.
March 18, 2009 at 4:42 pm
why do you suppose he wants a Civilian National Defense Corps so badly?A military revolt or armed civilian insurrection might distract him from reading his teleprompter;just sayin’.
March 18, 2009 at 6:14 pm
I have a feeling that Barky might be discovering that this country already *has* a “Civilian National Defense Corps,” it’s just not called that. (Check Title 10, section 311 of the U.S. Code to see what it’s called.)
It’s about 90 million strong, it doesn’t cost the government a dime, and a huge number of its members have already sworn an oath to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
And when you take that oath, no one ever releases you from it.
March 18, 2009 at 4:51 pm
I say draft the Obama girls as soon as they turn eighteen!
March 18, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Is it a Rise of the Machines moment?
March 18, 2009 at 2:37 pm
My guess is that if Obama had minimized the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, you would have accused him of being stuck-up and insulting a foreign dignitary.
I give you a test: If you’re fair, if you’ve been following the news, name something Obama has done that you approve of.
When Bush was President, I would give him credit for the things he did right, such as the early war planning on Afghanistan, or his backing of Gen. Petraeus.
I anticipate no such fairness from you. It’s a pity, really. This site could have been a real asset for Hillary.
March 18, 2009 at 2:57 pm
I never voted for Bush, but admit there were good things he did too, so far I haven’t seen anything Obama did that I think is best for our country in the long run, but there is always Hope
March 18, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Snork, the last thing Obama did I approve of was back during the campaign, when he told the press and his own campaign to lay off Sarah Palin’s pregnant teenage daughter. I thought he was extremely classy with that.
Since then, though, nada. Can’t think of one thing he’s done right.
In the spirit of fair-mindedness, though, I’m open to suggestions.
March 18, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I was going to say that too, but they were empty words since he had his thugs out trashing her, he was airdropping attorneys into Alaska to root through garbage cans and doing everything he could to trash Palin without getting his own hands dirty.
And he pulled the same crap on Hillary so it was no surprise. Heck, he even flipped off Hillary, at least he didn’t do that to Palin but he did call her a pig.
The man has a problem with strong women who oppose him, that much is obvious.
Hillary and Sarah happen to be highly effective women who work their butts off every single day and neither of them warranted that kind of personal abuse. NOBODY warrants that.
March 18, 2009 at 3:34 pm
Well, I always follow the news, but I haven’t seen or heard anything praiseworthy yet from Obama, but if I do I will certainly give him credit for it.
March 18, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Other than naming Hillary I mean. That was the best thing he’s done and I’m glad of it.
March 18, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Good one! That makes three things Bobo’s done or proposed that I agree with.
March 18, 2009 at 3:34 pm
He appointed Hillary as Secretary of State. Other than that, he has been an unqualified, incompetent empty suit. It’s a pity, really, as our country is paying a heavy toll for all those who voted for someone who reads someone elses words off of a teleprompter. Tingly feelings should not drive you to the polls. You have been duped.
March 18, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Snork: I believe I’ve already said this somewhere here, but I’m THRILLED that Bobo proposes to lengthen both the school day and the school year!
There are stellar exceptions, but in my experience, the majority of American kids appear to be ignorant, thanks to their low-life parents, the dolts who teach them, and their own lack of motivation.
I don’t think Bobo’s suggestion is a solution by any means with respect to improving the public-school system, but at least teachers would earn their pay by working more regular hours, and the kids would have less time for terrorism, vandalism, and disturbing the peace on the streets of their respective neighborhoods.
This liberal believes in VOUCHERS. As a photo illustrator for education textbooks, I spent several years
observing both public and private schools. Private (parochial, and charter) schools are on the whole far superior. I found the public schools in Montclair, NJ, to be an exception–and exceptional. A rarity, indeed.
Twelve-month school years–whoo-hoo!
March 18, 2009 at 4:52 pm
You don’t think teacher salaries will go up to reflect longer days?
Unless they hire more teachers and overlap season to season. Maybe some would just want part-time in the summer, instead of summers off.
I agree with your assessment of private/parochial schools being superior. Home schoolers can be good, but I’ve heard of some really outrageous, pathetic bad ones lately. Parents who themselves were deficiently educated, try to teach their kids.
Local home-schooled kids who come in my antique shop are generally more respectful and interested in learning about history.
Vouchers definitely the way to go. But we all know BO wants to keep imprisoning kids in bad public schools. Gotta fill their little skulls full of socialist crap!
March 18, 2009 at 6:13 pm
The way I understand it, teachers are already paid based on a year’s worth of work. So we the peeps should fight the unions tooth and nail if they try to pull a pay-raise stunt.
I agree with *your* assessment of home schoolers. If the parent is proficient and prefers to home school, then have at it. But if you’re deficient and you know it, clap your hands…
I’m hoping that DC children who are benefitting from vouchers will picket the White House in protest of the threat to cut them off. The kids are from very low-income homes and are mostly peeps of color, so Bobo and Meanchelle might actually sit up and take notice. When they contrast the advantages of their own kids with the disadvantages of the others, they might actually relent.
March 18, 2009 at 6:04 pm
The only problem is that the extra time won’t be used for actual education of any kind, it’ll just be used for more Marxist indoctrination and propaganda so the kids can be turned into Snorklike zombies.
March 18, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Merit pay for teachers! There, that’s a positive BO move that I approve of. But the NEA will never let him even get close to passing that, so it’s a moot point.
March 18, 2009 at 6:05 pm
I’m with you there, PVG! And I think all English teachers up for merit pay should first have to take the copyediting test I used when I taught at UT-Austin. If they pass, they can continue on in the process. If they fail, no soup!
See, Matt–uh, I mean, Snork
(air quotes)– I like TWO of Bobo’s proposals.
March 18, 2009 at 6:41 pm
My English/journalism-major daughter had a full ride to one of Iowa’s state universities. Her junior & senior year she was editor of the campus newspaper.
This was back in 1989/1990. One night she called me, in total frustration, having to deal with hiring staff writers. “Mom,” she wailed. “I give a proof-reading test to everyone who applies. These are ENGLISH majors, for cripes sake. The best anyone has done is 75%.”
I’m sure it’s worse now.
After putting 3 kids through the system, I noticed two big discrepancies when I compared my 1960’s education to theirs:
1) Lowest A was NOT 90% when I was in school. That was a plain B (think my lowest A standard was 94%). Since the mid-80’s or so, it’s been an A-.
Using that scale, 70% was a C-, while in my day it was almost failing. 60% (lowest D and lowest passing grade) was absolutely an F.
2) To make the honor roll in 1966, you had to have ALL grades be an A or B. Twenty years later, you can have a C or two mixed in, as they do an average. When I inquired of the principal, he said, “Oh, for pete’s sake. Using that old scale, hardly anybody would qualify.”
March 18, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Is snork matts new screen name?
March 18, 2009 at 6:02 pm
We’ll know if he starts talking about “24.”
March 18, 2009 at 9:02 pm
I boycotted last night. Did they show run that climate change tripe?
March 18, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Dunno, I’m usually outside smoking during the commercials.
March 18, 2009 at 3:46 pm
Anyone else think that in this picture, Barky looks like one of those idiot inbred child-pharohs of ancient Egypt?
I wonder when he’ll have his “volunteers” start building his pyramid.
March 18, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Maybe he’ll redo the Lincoln memorial.
Remove Abe and have a figure of himself sculpted to fit in that big chair.
At the time of his demise, maybe he could actually be entombed inside the BO sculpture. Kinda like a small bad set of Russian nesting dolls-ha!
March 18, 2009 at 4:43 pm
I think they should add to the Lincoln Memorial by placing Bobo in Lincoln’s lap.
March 18, 2009 at 4:58 pm
Wouldn’t THAT be a nasty little ventriloquist’s dummy??
More like a voodoo doll . . . .
March 18, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Don’t forget the teleprompter in front of his statue
March 18, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Unwittingly, I do believe we may have hit upon the “icon” or issue that shall forever define Barky’s presidency:
THE TELEPROMPTER!!
* Gerald Ford – the clumsy klutz
* Jimmy Carter – the peanut farmer in cardigan sweaters who lusted in his heart.
* Ronald Reagan – Jelly Belly Jellybeans!
* George H. Bush – Read my lips, no new taxes
* Bill Clinton – the stained blue dress :-(
* George W. Bush – 9/11 and the Iraq war
* Barack Hussein Obama – the Teleprompter Socialist!
March 18, 2009 at 5:57 pm
You guys are too funny!! I just spit my coffee all over myself! I figured the least he would do is replace the statue of liberty’s head with his own. Or line the coastal areas with monuments of himself, like easter island.
March 18, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Did you see the video from yesterday where he didn’t have his security tele and had to read notes? what a dissaster http://tinyurl.com/ck89zn
March 18, 2009 at 6:23 pm
NeeNee: LMAO!!!!
March 18, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Now that I think about it, Michelle kinda has that Egyptian “Nefertiti” forehead thing going on!
March 18, 2009 at 4:11 pm
or the sphinx after the nose broke
March 18, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Nefertiti was a Klingon? Who knew?
March 18, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Wow, from the movie Predator to the White house; that beats Arnold!
March 18, 2009 at 4:01 pm
OMG, I was joking yesterday that he would claim he was Irish. And he friggin did! YUK! I’m so infuriated at this fraud.
http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/jromano/2009/03/18/hotflash-obama-as-ron-burgundy/
I want the video damn it!
March 18, 2009 at 4:52 pm
It seemed to work for Kerry to claim he was Irish, so why not O’bama? The press totally sat on the story of how Kerry’s granddaddy took the name to hide his jewish ancestry so he would fit into Boston society. Again, imagine if the McBush’s had done this.
I guess, that all we can do for now is keep looking at the clock and keep counting the days, while Hoping it will not be too late to Change our country back:
2012-Anybody but bama!
http://obamaclock.org/
March 18, 2009 at 7:18 pm
O’bama; perhaps that is Gaelic for fraud?
March 18, 2009 at 4:18 pm
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/20118.html The 5 biggest myths about Obama
By trade if not by choice, I have become something of a Barack Obama aficionado. POLITICO’s Mike Allen wrote last week that I have “probably listened to more President Obama speeches than any human besides [White House spokesman Robert] Gibbs.” Working at the Republican National Committee last year, I closely watched every public appearance by Obama. And I learned a lot about our new president along the way.
He loves pies, but he doesn’t appreciate beer. And when he is presented with an uncomfortable question at a town hall, he usually turns the question on the questioner. (Q: Will my son’s death in Iraq be in vain? A: How did your son die?)
I’ve concluded that much of the conventional wisdom about Obama is wrong. Here are five of the biggest misconceptions:
1. Obama is bold. Actually, he is overly cautious. It’s no coincidence the first bills he signed into law were the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, two populist favorites. Signing these bills was not an act of courage any more than attacking lobbyists or selecting Joe Biden as a running mate. In fact, Obama’s entire agenda is cautious (sometimes to a fault, in the case of his housing and banking bailouts). Are the numbers in his proposed budget eye-popping? Yes. But eye-popping budgets are well within the Democratic mainstream now.
2. Obama is a great communicator. Cut away the soaring rhetoric in his speeches, and the resulting policy statements are often vague, lawyerly and confusing. He is not plain-spoken: He parses his language so much that a casual listener will miss important caveats. That’s in part why he uses teleprompters for routine policy statements: He chooses his words carefully, relying heavily on ill-defined terms like “deficit reduction” (which means tax increases, rather than actual “savings”) and “combat troops” (as opposed to “all troops in harm’s way”).

O/T: You know how we’re supposed to send a tea bag to the White House in protest of the bailouts and Porkus Maximus? I think I just found the perfect one in my cupboard:
“Smooth Move” (herbal laxative)

Dear Ms Garlic Nose:
You are really on a roll today. You need to come to Chicago. They need some writers at Second City with another point of view.
My favorite today:

Phil Donahue is on Hannity tonight.
What a gas bag. To say he’s in the tank for BoBo is an understatement. Snippets from the interview:
“I cried when HE took the oath.”
“His smile may save us all.”
“I love America more than any conservative does.”
