Last February, we were in the middle of the rough post-Super Tuesday stretch of caucuses leading up to the March 4th “meet me in Ohio” showdown between Hillary Clinton and Obama. Tim Russert brayed and bellowed for Clinton to drop out of the race. Keith Olbermann harrangued her “to just quit already”. Chris Matthews called her every name in the book, between bouts of tingling sensations running up his legs.
Morale on Team Hillary was low, and Eeyores started popping up everywhere.
That’s what we called people who listened to Russert, Olbermann, and Matthews and decided to “just give up”, people who turned everything those three cable news pigs said into self-fulfilling prophesies. Eeyores stopped coming to phone banks because “Tim Russert said there’s no point”. Eeyores skipped canvassing days because “Keith Olbermann said we are wasting our time”. Eeyores missed rallies because “Chris Matthews says it’s over”.
And worse than that, Eeyores brought down the mood and fighting spirit of those around them, too — not just letting Russert, Olbermann, and Matthews conjure little black rain clouds over their own heads, but manufacturing new storm clouds to spread to all their friends and families.
We watched in horror as Eeyores we knew depressed whole branches of the Hillary phone trees. They’d email articles by Dick Morris and other Hillary haters, never bothering to question any of it — just spreading that filth without question. And, of course, Eeyores would never remember that Russert, Olbermann, and Matthews swore Hillary would lose New Hampshire. Then, she was supposed to lose Massachusetts, California, New Jersey, and even New York on Super Tuesday. Then she was supposed to lose Nevada, according to the prognosticators at MSNBC and CNN.
But she won all of those states — and, yet, Eeyores could only dwell on the negative remarks made by clear Hillary-haters on TV.
And there wasn’t anything out there to counter all of that. There was no one calling the media out on its bias, remembering what they said two weeks before, posting counter arguments to whatever Tim Russert, especially, was braying about that day.
We had one very good friend in particular, Astrid, who was a persistent rain cloud. HillBuzz began as daily emails to her, countering the negative things Russert, Olbermann, and Matthews said on air (all things Astrid would cut and paste and forward to Heaven knows how many people each day, which they’d then forward on to who knows how many others, without anyone questioning the statements those three Obama cheerleaders said). Soon, people Astrid would forward rain clouds to would email us, asking if all of it was true, and we’d add them to our daily email blast as well.
And then, we realized it would be much easier to start a running blog, and post articles and insights we found each day, so people could stop by and see what we’d found whenever they needed to (instead of waiting for us to blast out another email).
None of us had ever blogged before — and had absolutely no idea what we were doing. One night, while running a phone bank into Texas and Ohio, we got together and pulled up Blogspot.com and set up our blog, calling ourselves “HillBuzz” to be that swarm of busy Hillary bees buzzing rebuttals to Tim Russert et al on the Internet, telling people the things the in-the-tank media wouldn’t.
Our first-ever post was about Obama’s use of sexist language, calling him out for saying Hillary Clinton was apt to “bring the claws out” whenever cornered.
And the media never once called Obama out for that (or anything, really).
So we found ourselves incredibly busy on a daily basis, just highlighting the things the press wasn’t properly covering. HillBuzz ultimately consumed our lives, as we’d spend all of our free time researching and writing for the site, when we weren’t phone banking, canvassing, fundraising, or traveling for Hillary Clinton. We stopped going to movies or out to dinner with friends, because we’d rather have dozens of strangers at Buzzquarters burning up the phone lines into Pennsylvania or Wisconsin or wherever, while all of us blogged in another room.
Everyone we knew put everything they had into the campaign.
And, after Clinton suspended her presidential bid in June, we all found ourselves in uncharted territory because we never believed Obama would be a good president, we still don’t trust him, and decided to support a Republican for the first time in our lives. If we thought the hatred and nastiness aimed at us during the primaries when we supported Hillary over Obama was bad, we certainly didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into when we backed McCain/Palin.
But, in a strange and sick way, all the hate flung at us by the Obama trolls just emboldened us more. Everyone who told us to shut up just made us want to write and post more. It was hard to be a Democrat supporting a Republican. We alienated a lot of lifelong partisan friends, and struggled to break free of that partisan thinking ourselves. It was tough, but we knew in our heart what we were doing was right. We believed in McCain/Palin, and saw them as the next best ticket for America, after Clinton was out of the race.
And so we worked as hard for them as we did for Hillary Clinton — and in the process, we acquired a new respect for and understanding of Republicans we never had before. Never again will we walk through life with partisan blinders on. Never again will we call Republicans ugly names or automatically hate people just because they have an (R) after their name. Never again will we sit back while good, qualified, hard-working female candidates of either party are ripped apart by the media (in the form of vile pigs like Russert, Olbermann, or Matthews).
After the election, we didn’t know if we should continue this site, because of the amount of daily work it takes, and the fact that it was intended to be just a tool for the campaigns (which were ended, disappointingly so). But, we still kept getting a high number of hits a day, and people seemed to enjoy our snark, so we kept on working.
HillBuzz has become a part of our lives now, and we can’t imagine ever stopping. We’re a bunch of Hillary Democrats living in Boystown who’ve made friends with other moderates all across the country because of this site. We connect with Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike on a daily basis in ways that open our eyes and educate us. We learn something new every day working on this site, and we hope all of you out there share a laugh and do the same thing as well.
It certainly has been an adventure…one we want to see continue for a very long time to come.
We started HillBuzz on blogspot, before security issues there prompted our move to wordpress. We have a vision for a new and improved site of our own that will launch sometime later this year, on our own server, completely under our own control, that will do things wordpress can’t currently do. Right now, we’re saving up to afford all of that, as well as investing in some computer classes to teach us the Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and other skills we’ll need to create a truly interactive and innovative site — snarking on politics, foreign affairs, and current events from a moderate, pro-woman, Hillary Democrat point of view.
So the Eeyores of the world always have a sunny place to go free of hallucinatory storm clouds.
So the Russerts, Olbermanns, and Matthews of the world don’t have the last word.
So there’s always a place on the internet where Hillary Clinton and her life’s work is celebrated, and all the women (and men, too) of Generation Hillary just emerging on the political scene in her footsteps have a ready-made set of cheerleaders of their own.
We intend to keep putting chips in that glass ceiling…adding to the cracks Hillary Clinton, Geraldine Ferraro, Shirley Chisholm, Carol Mosley Braun, Elizabeth Dole, and Sarah Palin each added, in her own way, until the day a woman takes the Oath of Office and stands in the Oval Office…next to her husband Bill and daughter Chelsea…or her husband Todd and daughter Piper, whatever the case may be.
Hillary Clinton wakes up every day and works her heart out to make a difference towards the goals she believes in. We have neither her talents, smarts, or energy…but we do have her example.
We were changed forever by Election 2008, and by the strength, courage, and determination Hillary Clinton showed on the campaign trail, and now as our 67th Secretary of State.
Who knows what the future holds for any of us, but around here we certainly hope there’s another campaign in Clinton’s future. We’ll come running, if there ever is.
But, until then, there’s a little bit of Hillary inside each of us that’s never going anywhere. And, hopefully, neither will this site.
If you like what we do and can help us reach our goal of developing our own site, we’d appreciate anything you can contribute. Birthday presents today are gratefully accepted.

I know I have said it before, but this is the best site out there. I hope to be a regular for years to come. I think the election of 2008 changed all of us that visit here. The reality is that it WAS the most important election of our lifetime, but the wrong person won. We share a bond together because we all love our country.
Thanks Hillbuzz!! Here’s to ya

You are my favorite political website.
Cheers from one nonkoolaid drinker.
February 17, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Thank you Thank you Thank you. Reading this article brought tears to my eyes. You expressed so perfectly how it was that life-long democrats suddenly opened their eyes in 2008 and realized republicans are not the enemy. The enemy is ignorance, sexism, racism, hypocrisy, corruption, political thievery and deception whereever it rears its ugly head. As a Chicago resident and surrounded by a sea of Obama-maniacs, I am pleased to know there are still others out there who share my love for and appreciation of all things Hillary Clinton. Thanks for all the wonderful articles you have shared during the past year. Keep up the good work!

As I said the day after the election, you guys are the best! That from a conservative evangelical. I have told all my uber conservative kids to read it regularly.
I. love. this. site.

I definitely enjoy all the information and snark Hillbuzz has provided this year! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to stick true to your values and principles!!!! The hardest thing to do is stand up against your own party or like-minded friends.
You have become one of my daily respites since all this craziness began. I’m truly grateful for all your efforts, even though I have been quite critical at times. As the campaign intensified, I also began to consider a protest vote to not only Obama but the whole Democratic Party for the autocratic path they were taking. Hillbuzz kept me objectively informed and was a friend during that time, when I decided to also vote McCain/Palin, and even did some campaigning for them. This was the first time I voted and worked for a Republican in over 20 years of political activism. So I understand the anguish that you all went through in making that choice. And the more criticism I received and saw in the MSM, the more I realized I had made the right choice. And now, Obama’s stupid antics –like forcing an urgent stimulus bill to be voted upon and then waiting 4 days after its passing to sign (guess it wasn’t so urgent after all) –are proving the reasons for that decision.
BTW–some women over at the Confluence are discussing the possibility of becoming (or in my case, renewing) their NOW memberships to show up as a force to take over the organization. Thoughts??
Hey, do you all know why Indonesian women are protesting Hillary’s arrival? I just saw this today.

“The enemy is ignorance, sexism, racism, hypocrisy, corruption, political thievery and deception whereever it rears its ugly head.”
This conservative says Amen.
February 17, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Whew, that’s a lot of posts. I did the math. That’s like writing 20 full length novels, for free. There should be a law against such generosity.
Among the many things you do well, you write awesome manifestos.
February 17, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Sorry, forgot to mention the GOAL of The Confluence’s suggested take over of NOW — its to get the ERA passed…
Watching Obama’s tepid action in re Fair Paycheck Act, we cannot afford to wait for anyone to grant us women rights. Oh yeah, he did sign Lily Ledbetter, but it really has no teeth to it. What many believed he would do is sign both acts simultaneously, and he didn’t saying that he would sign the FPA in the future. Knowing Obama’s “record” who knows how long that will take or if it will even occur as we grow closer to the midterm elections.
February 17, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Susan #3, yes, AMEN. HALLELUJAH.
Your principles (as Hillbuzz’s) are totally in alignment with mine.
February 17, 2009 at 12:32 pm
In today’s toxic atmosphere of people actively seeking out ways to drive wedges between each other, I congratulate Hillbuzz for taking the opposite approach and bringing people together.
I long for a time when we can have a robust two-party system (or more) and have knock-down drag-outs over policy, then shake hands at the end and come together to do what’s right for our country.
Hillbuzz, it’s a sign of these strange times that we live in that you are making so many new friends in places like TeamSarah and Conservatives4Palin. I don’t like Koolaid of any flavor, Dem or Repub, so I’m doing my best to keep my fellow Repubs from drinking any too, and spreading the word about your terrific site.
You guys are real Patriots and I salute you for it. Keep rockin’!

Hillbuzz has heart
…and wit…
thanks for all you do…keep up the great work…

I. LOVE. YOU. GUYS.
February 17, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Hillbuzz, just a suggestion about taking computer classes….
check out the colleges and see if they offer a type of “mini course” for computer lessons (like webpage development). Many colleges offer them through their IT departments, sometimes Alums get discounts.
February 17, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Thank you, gentlemen for my daily dose of wit, wisdom and sanity. The last three months would have been unbearable but for you. Keep up all the wonderful work.
Much love from Texas.
February 17, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Hillbuzz, thank you and congrats!! It’s an accomplishment what you have achieved with this blog. I didn’t come every day obsessively, many hits each day knowing how productive you were, until Hillary lost and wished it so much for McCain/Palin to win. You were like an oasis in a desert, though eventually you were wrong in your prediction, your spirit and optimism is worth taking example of.
February 17, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Thank you so much. You guys are THE Best.
February 17, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Hillbuzz,
I can’t thank you enough for your wit and insights. In these times, reading many of your posts has often times been the one thing that brightened my day.
I wish more Democrats would have been enlightened like you and saw through the fraud of the Democratic primaries. But I also wish more of my conservatives friends would have been more enlightened and would have held President Bush accountable for his spending spree and stopped it as larger federal government spending and control of our lives does not a true conservative make. When I speak of conservativism I primarily do so in the fiscal side of the house and not the social side.
So now I have reached a point like you where I look at all politicians for their ideals, ideologies and yes character.
I find myself now in a position to possibly shed some light on the Hillary debacle of the primaries. In the State of AZ where I live, in order to get on the Presidential ballot, you must sign a form that says you are a natural born citizen (see link here: http://www.azsos.gov/election/2008/PPE/Nomination_Paper_PPE_Feb_5_2008.pdf). Using the AZ SOS request for Public Records form, I have requested an electronic copy of Barack Obama’s signed form. Once I receive this, if I receive it, I plan to file a civil rights violation complaint with the AZ Attorney General (not a lawsuit — just an online complaint on the AZ AG’s website) stating that my civil rights were violated because Obama committed fraud, and I wasn’t allowed to vote for Hillary.
I know my actions probably won’t do any good, but with the caucus fraud that occurred against Hillary, and the fraud of Obama’s potential non-natural born citizen status, I feel like I have to at least try even if it is an exercise in futility.
February 17, 2009 at 2:35 pm
CuriOus,
Keep us posted on that — we don’t believe anything in life is futile, even if it ends up being an academic exercise. Every thing we do is a learning experience in some way. Around here, we learn something new every day — and every time we deal with the government, write letters, organize some effort, we learn something new that helps us moving forward.
But the key is to always move forward. Election 2008 is behind us…now, we need to support the best candidates for 2010, and then the best ones in 2012. WHATEVER PARTY THEY MAY BE.
No more blind loyalty for us…always the best woman or man for every job, regardless of party.
February 17, 2009 at 2:40 pm
You guys are a class act! Glad to have you as part of my day, every day!
Congratulations on your one year anni!
February 17, 2009 at 2:43 pm
I plan on posting info on my blog at http://hesnotmypresident.wordpress.com (formulating the original post now of my intentions). I’m hopeful at the very least that this exercise may induce changes in the laws between now and 2012, so that he would have to prove his NBC status before the next election. I appreciate your support, and I agree that it will be a learning process and who knows it may help in some way.
And I also agree that in the future, I will only be supporting the best candidates regardless of party affiliation.
February 17, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Happy Birthday..HILLBUZZ.
know that you are loved and appreciated more then you could ever imagine.
February 17, 2009 at 4:06 pm
I. Love. You. Guys. You have saved me many times this election season with your wit and you have perfectly put my feelings into words. I don’t comment often, but I always read this site. Every day. I hope this is the first of many years to come!
February 17, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Hillbuzz, some of us Republicans and some of you Democrats have something in common and that was Hillary,i think Hillary not being our President brought lost of us together, lets just wish for better future and just vote for a better candidate not because they are Republican or Democrat.
Thank you and keep up the good work we need you.
February 17, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Me too, me too, me too!! (Horshach referrence alert)
I’m a PUMA that started blogging my thoughts for this very reason, that joined Mccain’s campaign effort for this very reason. While that little cloud has dulled my will to post post-inaugeration, I enjoy reading yours. It’s like y’all stole the words right outta my head…
Keep it up!
February 17, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Simply, and from the heart, Thank YOU!

Happy Birthday Guys!
It’s been a real pleasure visiting your site, now daily for the last few months. As a Republican that grew apathetic with my own party (that is until Governor Palin), it was nice to join with you guys in a common cause. The Anti-Bama.
February 17, 2009 at 6:36 pm
You are my favorite political website.

Happy Birthday Hillbuzz!
God bless you and all the hard work you do each and everyday. I don’t know how I would’ve gotten through the elections without you!
This PA bitter gal(a regular “Sweetie”) who clings to her guns/bible while chomping on Arugula is better prepared to keep back the obots cause of you and a few other great Hillary sites.
Thank you again, and here’s hoping Hillary knows how much of a jewel you are.
February 17, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Great site! I don’t always agree with what you wrote, but I respect you! I too love Hillary. It’s nice to among friends.

February 17, 2009 at 11:50 pm
Thanks Hillbuz!
I too, stumbled onto your site. Now it’s one of my favorites.
Thanks again!
February 18, 2009 at 12:42 am
Happy anniversary, guys! I’ve been with you practically from the start and look forward to a long, fun and informative ride. Unfortunately, I have left the Democrat party for good but I will remain with you. We’ve been thru so much together. Thanks for putting into a blog the abandonment and anger that I was feeling toward the party for which I had been a member my entire life.
February 18, 2009 at 12:52 am
Congrats on your first anniversary as well as your site. I can’t really remember how I found your site or who told me about it. However, it is VERY imformative and I’m sure that I am not the only one that appreciates your views, dedication as well as your obvious “in the know” analysis of what is going on. I’m not sure that you have any idea how many non-Democrats – such as myself and many of my friends – enjoy and appreicate Hillbuzz. The 2008 election opened many eyes and I just want to tell you thank you for your previous and continued efforts, support and encouragement that I am sure all your readers appreciate.
February 18, 2009 at 1:02 am
You’ve hit the nail on the head, guys. It’s been real. Now, it’s getting surreal.
Either way, anybody with the name Clinton wants to run for anything on earth, I’ll be running right with you.
February 18, 2009 at 11:05 am
First off let me just say that this was the first blog that I EVER stumbled upon while surfing on the web. Not only am I grateful that I did, but I couldnt imagine it not being a part of my life. I too was disappointed when I saw the sexist and mysoginistic tratment of Hillary Clinton during the primaries, and found the MSM’s behavior to be juvenille and one sided, if not not down right wrong. It became a struggle to even read the news or visit any “news” websites on the web as they were nothing but Obama Cheerleaders with corp sponsors (same ones who are getting our tax dollars to “stimulate” our ecomony??) One day on the HillaryClinton.com’s (which was my OLD Home Page) blog I followed a link to Hillbuzz, and never looked back.. I have a huge blogroll that I read and comment on, all because I decided to try a link, and ENJOYED what I found! So I say, THANK YOU to Hillbuzz, and congratulations on a very interesting and unforgetable year, I too will never look out of the partisan windows I have been behind for a majority of my life. And I, like many others who supported Hillary Clinton for President, whether it was financially, volunteering, phone banking, canvassing, or traveling to states you have never been before to do “visibility” on sidewalks… We all have that common connection that you mention… and its not going away (Oh, and we also arent just WOMEN)! We will mobilize when she calls, but make no mistake, the person who is RIGHT for our country, and has OUR interests at heart should be the next President.. regardless of the letter after their name!
Thanks Hillbuzz, and I hope our donations are helping that fund grow because I would love to see this new site up and running soon!
February 19, 2009 at 10:47 pm
First and foremost, thank you for everything you do gentlemen. You never fail to make me smile.
Second, there is a growing group of us over on RedState that is trying to organize a protest in DC and in local areas over Obama and the radical, far-left liberal’s out of control spending. A number of redstaters are talking about making the roadtrip to DC to participate. Once we hammer out more details i will let ya’ll know… but i wanted to mention it to you b/c I remembered how much ya’ll love roadtrips.
January 16, 2010 at 2:55 am
I’m a little late to this dance, but thanks for your online presence. I am a gay Republican currently living and working in Switzerland and understand very well the invective and hatred hurled from all sides.
I especially like the way you encapsulate news events (Obama as Dr. Utopia as Cleopatra going to Massachusetts to help Martha Coakley). Zing!
And although I do not share your opinion of the Clintons, I was immensely proud of Hillary as Secretary of State when she addressed the situation in Haiti after the earthquake. She showed equal parts of heartfelt compassion, measured urgency, and solemn dignity. Superb — and a much more presidential response than her boss uttered later.
Kind regards,
Mike in Zurich
