Behind the scenes work is already underway to rename Chicago’s Midway Airport after Obama — becoming the Barack H. Obama International Airport.
Apparently, there are those in the city, especially on the Olympics Committee, that want this done before October 2009, to give the IOC a little more incentive to award Chicago the 2016 games (despite the fact that here in Chicago it’s already considered a done-deal we’ll get the Olympics, and has been since November 4th). The Obamafication of Chicago begins with renaming Midway…and is partially designed to remind the IOC, in as loud a voice possible, that Chicago’s what gave the world Obama, and thus Chicago should be rewarded with the 2016 games, in “The One’s” adopted hometown.
Incidentally, for those wondering, Midway was named in 1947, after the Battle of Midway, but with so few veterans of WWII left, and so much for the city to gain by renaming Midway after Obama, don’t think for a moment the WWII honor will stand in the way here.
With 50 states competing for federal dollars, and Chicago competing for the Olympics (with Mayor Daley obsessed about winning those games), renaming Midway is part of a concerted effort to keep Obama focused on Illinois above all others. It’s also part of the Mayor’s scheme to privatize Midway airport…which he has been trying to do for a few years now, as privatization will give Chicago $3 billion in rent and cost savings. Currently, several of the major carriers flying out of Midway have been holding up the privatization deal (because they are concerned privatization will mean higher rent and other fees). The renaming is thus part of a rebranding and revamping that’s partially meant to force these holdouts to get on board. “What are you racist? You don’t want to stand in the way of an airport honoring our first black president, do you?”
It also, no doubt, will enable a great deal of private fundraising, to convert Midway into an Obama shrine while funding all the fancy improvements the Mayor wants for the airport but currently can’t afford. All those hopium laced contributions Penny Pritzker is so good at bringing in are expected to flow freely to Barack H. Obama International Airport.
Just watch. It will take a few months for the media to admit this is going on, but people we know in city government tell us this is the Mayor’s latest scheme (along with building room for the future Barack H. Obama Presidential Library and Museum into Chicago’s Southside Olympics plans, to guarantee Chicago lands that prize, and not Honolulu).

How do you guys still live there? Are you looking for new work?
Naming an airport after a president-elect because of his skin color? Unbelievable.
December 30, 2008 at 6:24 pm
PLEASE tell me this is some kind of sick frickin’ joke! Is today April 1??? C’mon guys!
December 30, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Oh, c’mon everyone – why not cut to the chase and just let them rename the city. After all it’s been Chicago for, well, umm, you know, like, uhh, 175 years or so. Isn’t it time for a change? As part of the Obamification of America – one airport or city at a time.
December 30, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Prediction–Obama will have more things named after him than MLK which is already more than any other American.
December 30, 2008 at 6:46 pm
I think he’s in Hawaii now to lay the ground work for renaming the island Bethlehem.

My husband grew up on the Southside. I just made the mistake of telling him about this.
December 30, 2008 at 9:12 pm
This is preposterous. Please tell me this is just fodder, and can be filed under silly jokes/parodies ala Muppet Hunting in the woods surrounding Chagrin Falls (which is beautiful, by the way)–NOT Muppet Hunting, but Chagrin Falls, that is.
December 30, 2008 at 10:07 pm
So for generations after, people can say that airport was named after President Obama who….umm… well, it was after President Obama, son, don’t ask me why.

Despicable that the airport would be renamed for a guy who has accomplished nothing but the greatest PR con (with the help of his nefarious friends) in US politics.
Forget about those old guys who fought and lost their lives at the Battle of Midway for this country. It was a long time ago, so what? Is what they did no longer relevant?
Shame on any Illinoian who doesn’t raise his/her voice against this patently offensive act.

They shouldn’t name a golfish after him, if they did the poor goldfish.
December 31, 2008 at 5:32 pm
I don’t know guys, I’m kinda not buying into this. The most reveered President in modern times is RR, (for the repubs anyway)and it was 10 years after he left the WH before Wash Nat’l was renamed. Most people still call it National, as some things are hard to change. What will happen if he doesn’t live up to all the hope and change, will they go back to Midway? If he comes through will Illinois no longer be called the land of Lincoln, but instead be the domain of Hussien. I realize that Chicago will be Obamasized, but the children and grandchildren of WWll vets will not idly stand by and allow this. As far as the presidential library, Hawaii is the place. O sure does love it there. He’s golfing, working out, and swimming without a care in the world while the rest of the world is crumbling around him. Remember there’s only one President at a time. Hawaii is his home, so my money is on that is where all things Obama will be. Including him and his family after 2012.

12.31.2008 i’ve got to add this for you folks:
how would mr. obama like it if after midway airport (named quite appropriately for the men that lost their lives fighting for our country out in the middle of the pacific in WWII) is renamed in his name when he is not even sworn into office (i still do wonder if he is an american citizen, don’t you?) yet, nor dead yet, were to be leased out to a company that possibly COULD employ a terrorist or two.
how would daley like it and how would mr. obama like it if the barrack h obama international airport is used as the stepping stone to get small craft out above the lake to drop packets of biological weaponry into our water?
i have posed this concern to the homeland security group a couple of times because i feel that daley shouldn’t rent out the airport, that it is too dangerous. he’s sold off so much of our infrastructure already he should be laughing his way to his pet bank, named ‘the olympics in chicago bank.’ that man is a meglomaniac. yes, i honestly feel that it is DANGEROUS to rent out our airport(s).
all this planning to make a national holiday for barrack obama, now, before he is dead, is yet another instance of obama-madness.
i don’t think midway airport’s name should be changed at all, and i sure don’t think it is time to name anything in bo’s honor. let him prove his mettle as a president before even considering it.

Could another incentive be to justify moving the National Capital from Washington D.C. to Chicago?…….Bill Spence
January 1, 2009 at 10:32 am
I love it!!!! I can’t wait to see how this all pans out for all the Democratic liberals in Illinois that voted Obama in! This is just the tip of the iceberg I’m sure!
January 6, 2009 at 4:52 pm
You know I had decided when Obama won that I would be graceful about it…give the guy a chance, the same “first 90 days” that’s been the acid test for every president since Kennedy. But this IS getting out of hand. Some are in such a rush to coin money, change names, declare national holidays among other things and why……while it’s certainly an accomplishment of sorts being elected our first HALF black president he’s done absolutely nothing so far except play in Hawaii, think about what breed the first dog should be and get his kids into school. Let’s hope that the “change” he was talking about all throughout the election has more substance to it than just changing the name of an airport in Chicago……..
January 9, 2009 at 11:00 pm
How could you change the name of an airport who pays honor to Americans who gave their lives for our freedom to the name of A unpatriotic politician who is friends with Blogojevich Midway is an awesome airport leave it at that Obama can have something else named after him politicians destroyed America Vterans made america!!!!!!! God Bless You all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 24, 2009 at 6:02 pm
Wow, you people need to chill out. I think this is awesome. It wouldn’t taking anything away from WWII vets, it would honor the first African American president in our country’s history. Is that not enough to rename an airport (especially the SMALLER major Chicago airport)? It is honoring the symbol of a black president, not him specifically. Calm down, conservatives.
February 23, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Wow, the man has yet to do a thing as president and yet we are quick to change names, coin money, and basically put him on a pedestal for absolutely nothing. So the guy is HALF BLACK! Wow, who cares. He doesn’t even care about blacks. It is also funny that he not once used his middle name during his campaign and now he is.
EVERYBODY THOUGHT HITLER WAS A GREAT LEADER AND LOOK HOW HE TURNED OUT!
February 23, 2009 at 12:25 pm
What the heck is going on, I still call my ball park Comiskey and will continue to call it Midway….Monsters of the Midway will loose its meaning…Monsters of Obama doesn’t have the same ring to it. If you are going to name anything after him, lets wait until his term is over…
February 23, 2009 at 1:37 pm
I agree Mike. Comiskey and Midway. If we name anything I think his name would be best suited on the sanitation sign over the canal. Barrack H Obama Sanitation. Catchy ring and so far he has done shit so fits well. Let us not forget those who gave lives, arms, legs, and wives/families up for this great country. Daley has been a person i have admired and yet he is really annoying me with this olympics BS and Obama. He did shit for Chicago too. Why dont we just change Washington Monument to Obama tower?
To J: Granted midway is the smaller of the 2, yet does more flights than majority of the airports. The man has absolutely no need for his name on anything. So he won because the majority of people in America decided that we have had a republican in office for too long and need a democrat. Well great, since they do not believe in drilling offshore for oil or extracting it from shale our prices are going to skyrocket. Thanks stupid misinformed Americans.
