Michelle Antoinette gets a new bauble: a diamond and rhodium ring worth over $30,000. Shown (close to actual size) above.
Remember when she said Bush’s $600 rebate checks were a pittance that couldn’t even buy a nice pair of earrings? Well, now we know what sort of jewelry she’ll settle for. And it would sure take a lot of rebate checks to buy earrings to match that rhodium whopper.
Which will look gorgeous when paired with any of Michelle’s signature fashion choices, made from only the finest old couches, of course.

December 1, 2008 at 9:19 pm
I just bought my wife a $10,000 ring. So what? I love her and I felt like she deserved it.
December 1, 2008 at 9:20 pm
I don’t care what MOO-Bama wears…it won’t make her look any better…well ok,maybe a burka.
Now,she needs to work on those hips.
December 1, 2008 at 9:21 pm
OK, time for a “lipstick on a pig” comment.
December 1, 2008 at 9:23 pm
I totally agree………..
December 1, 2008 at 9:24 pm
Too bad she doesn’t have the class to carry off wearing a ring like that. Someone should clue her in that money can’t buy class.
December 1, 2008 at 9:34 pm
A burka for mad michelle would work wonders over the next 4 years. It’s bad enough having to look at barfy for the next 4 years without having to see mad michelle as well.
December 1, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Hello! Hillbots? We are on the same team now. Helloooo. Anybody out there?
December 1, 2008 at 10:24 pm
Outrageous against backdrop of our hurting economy. Got me musing about an analogy, imperfect, but see if some of the following makes sense..
Think of the stock market as the breathing lungs, and banks as the pumping heart of the economy. Capitalism needs both oxygen (market confidence) and circulating blood (money flow) to thrive. Now, say the economy has been smoking (cigs or maybe bad mortgages) too much, and the bad air has stressed the lungs, leading to a mild heart attack. It happens. What would a doctor do. Well in the long term, she would say stop smoking (stupid lending), exercise (become more productive), eat better (better sources of energy), and breath clean oxygen to get that confidence back. But in the short term, she needs to deal with the heart that’s no longer pumping, no? A few shocks with the defibrillator is what they seem to do on ER and House. That would be letting the worst of the banks clogging the system go under (Lehman is not enough).
So what exactly is the government doing right now. They’ve decided against the defibrillator, though the banks are still hogging and not circulating money. On the operating table, the Treasury is trying to pump pure oxygen (temporary confidence boosters – bailout pledges, equity stakes, stimulus packages, big speeches) into the lungs (stock market) which in medical parlance can lead to hyperoxia (sounds bad). Again, the heart is where the focus should be. And there, the Fed is pumping in new blood (money supply), around 8 trillion dollars at last count through its various facilities. But the banks still refuse to lend, and no defibrillator in sight! As we all know, as long as the heart does not pump, oxygen does not get to the brain (which in this out-of-control analogy would be us, the consumer). In fact, all that new blood is actually going to dangerously raise our blood pressure (in the form of massive monetary dilution that will lead to ridiculous inflation if we make it through as a recession, or the opposite deflationary spiral if we fall into depression).
Sounds pretty grim. By comparison, allowing more large zombie banks to fail so the better banks are shocked into lending, that does not sound as aweful. Consumer deposits would be protected, some bank shareholders would lose their shirts, some overpaid executives would lose their jobs. We need to stop obsessing about the falling stock market and artificially propping it up. We need to solve the heart attack (we promise to stop smoking after). That means making banks understand they either do their job or go under. And that job is simple: circulate money by taking deposits and fairly lending. It cannot continue to be about their profits, bonuses, and sexy derivatives. Not now. They created the mess. They take the hit or go fishing. Defibrillator please!
December 1, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Fake outrage here we come! As long as he uses his own money who cares? Unlike Palin who is still wearing clothes she bought with campaign funds. Buying something nice for your wife is a GOOD thing.

Snake45: I’ve got news for you. Neither am I my fellow Democrat…neither am I. You should read Obama’s books. You’ll find out he’s not any of the things you believe him to be.
December 1, 2008 at 10:51 pm
This story is pure rubbish by the way. Obama is a very frugile man. I doubt he bought the ring.

I’d settle for reading his TRUE birth certificate, to find out if he’s who he’s told us he is. Yeah, let’s start with THAT.
And BTW, John, Obama didn’t write his books.
December 1, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Can’t wait for Jan. 20, 2009! I’ll see you there!
December 1, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Let me say this. If you have the money and want to spend it on a ring that cost twice as much as a new Honda Civic, then by all means go for it. That’s part of the magic of capitalism.
BUT, what I find interesting about this story is that people as supposedly interested in the plight of the poor could JUSTIFY spending $30K on a ring while children are homeless and starving in the streets, and people are dying from water-borne illness around the world.
For the price of that ring, Barack could have dedicated 6 or maybe even 8 wells to his wife in Kenya, servicing perhaps 3500 people a year, or maybe more, who currently have no access to clean drinking water.
My girlfriend would not be happy if I bought her a ring like that. She would much rather I spent it on a good cause, and I agree with her. By the way, we’re both Republicans. I thought we were supposed to be the materialistic ones?
December 1, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Acutally, Obama is one of two Senators that has written his own books. I’m not sure where you’re getting your info.
December 1, 2008 at 11:11 pm

December 1, 2008 at 11:18 pm
John, did you mean “frugal” or “fragile” or maybe both. Cause he does seem a bit delicate and flimsy now and then. As for being frugal, he’s on record as saying he won’t worry about the ballooning deficit while he goes on that stimulus spending spree with Nancy. That, my fellow Democrat, is the definition of socialist policy. Higher taxes or higher mortgage rates, for everyone. You decide and remind the president elect he will have to choose. Or did you think all that campaign rhetoric was real world.
December 1, 2008 at 11:21 pm
Snake45 Says:
I’m sure you’ll be there with kneepads on!
To see Hillary of course!

Why doesn’t John just go away.
He is certainly annoying.
Sounds like he is 12.
December 1, 2008 at 11:27 pm
I love how this blog decries sexism with one post and then turns around and compares Michelle’s clothes to a couch with another post.
Looks like sexism is just fine with Hillbuzz as long as it’s directed against a black woman.
December 1, 2008 at 11:34 pm
BTW, that’s a really ugly ring. I wouldn’t let my wife wear that to a pig’s bris.
December 1, 2008 at 11:35 pm
From Wikipedia about rhodium
It is also possible to extract rhodium from used nuclear fuel, which contains rhodium (1 kg of the fission products of 235U contain 13.3 grams of 103Rh). So as a typical used fuel is 3% fission products by weight it will contain about 400 grams of rhodium per ton of used fuel. The longest lived radioisotope of rhodium is 102mRh which has a half life of 2.9 years, while the ground state (102Rh)has a half life of 207 days.
December 2, 2008 at 1:15 am
Ok, let’s do the math with the numbers we know: A $30,000 ring plus the $337.98 J. Crew outfit (don’t forget the designer dress on election night that undoubtedly cost thousands AND that $300 lobster dinner)
Could it be possible that Her Majesty Michelle has spent *gasp* about $150,000 during the course of the election and onward?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Say it ain’t so, B.O.!!!!!!
December 2, 2008 at 1:47 am
Funny, isn’t it, how any criticism of Hillary is automatically defined as sexist, yet Hillbuzz tghinks it perfectly acceptable to allow and endorse comments like:
“I don’t care what MOO-Bama wears…it won’t make her look any better…well ok,maybe a burka.
Now,she needs to work on those hips”
“A burka for mad michelle would work wonders over the next 4 years”
“…Which will look gorgeous when paired with any of Michelle’s signature fashion choices, made from only the finest old couches, of course”
You really are a pack of hypocrits.
December 2, 2008 at 1:49 am
Michelle my bell, you could do better than that.
December 2, 2008 at 7:01 am
He says he’s the same as me, Mr. Obamar. He says he is just like me. He is working blue collar class? He is the norm? I’ve never spent more on trinkets than a college education. i won’t even spend that much on a car. But he is just like me. Having children in starving countries pick diamonds for aunt and uncle tom. Lovely. But they are like me! They care about the children too!
I’d sooner where a pile of crap than a diamond. And I’d sooner have a pile of crap as my president. oh wait.
December 2, 2008 at 7:03 am
Oh and Obamaisprez? I say nothing sexist about any woman. I am not a hypocrit, rather your leader that made you drink the Kool Aid, Obamar is your hypocrit. And you might just be a mindless twit.
December 2, 2008 at 7:59 am
Obamaisprez, the truth is the truth no matter how you cut it.
MOO-Bama is not an attractive woman.
Her choice of a sofa patterned dress shows she has no taste.
Nothing sexist about those comments. And,to show I’m not woman bashing,I’ll be evenhanded and say Obama isn’t an attractive man…especially when he doesn’t have his teleprompter and his speeches consist of uh..uh.uh..and…uh,uh.
Enjoy Barry’s greatest hits…
December 2, 2008 at 9:11 am
Michelle has more than earned every criticism directed at her and it isn’t about sexism…it’s about a complete and utter lack of appropriateness, sensitivity to the times, mean spiritedness, her demostrated white-hatred and her obvious feelings of entitlement. She has made her own bed and is so deserving of being called on her bad behavior and ostentatiousness, especially in these times when so many are hurting across the country. She’s tasteless on so many levels.
As to Obama’s books, it’s been shown that he made up many situations in them (disproved by the very people he wrote about) and borrowed without attribution from others. He also had a ghost writer helping him. He couldn’t even be honest in his books. The self-aggrandizement of this man will be his downfall. Hopefully, he won’t take the country with him.

Keep the fahsion commentary coming, Hillbuzz! LOVE IT!
December 2, 2008 at 10:22 am
The ring is beautiful, but I really have to wonder how this story got out.
December 2, 2008 at 10:24 am
HYPOCRITES
December 2, 2008 at 10:37 am
And so,
If you don’t like the way Michelle looks it’s your opinion. NOT the truth. Many people believe Michelle is beautiful. To me she’s average but very smart. Of course your comments are incredibly sexists which makes you a HYPOCRITE. Hillary is employed by Obama.
December 2, 2008 at 10:40 am
You need to feature more and better pictures featuring the new First Booty. Encourage her to wear light coloured pinstripes.
December 2, 2008 at 10:53 am
Pearls before swine.
December 2, 2008 at 11:02 am
That couch still startles me. Maybe it’s the cat.
December 2, 2008 at 11:13 am
The cat is afraid it will have to wear a couch dress like mad michelle. Perhaps the cat has taste, something mad michelle has proven she lacks, among other basic social skills. And, by the way, barry is just as bad, and also looks like he just got dressed in the kids department at Pennys. Perhaps instead of blowing 30K on a ring, they should have both hired wardrobe people to help stop their serious malfunctions and at least make them pretend to look like a “first couple.”
December 2, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Michelle’s $30,000 bling ring…
Up North Mommy has details and an alternative plan:Barack Obama is so thankful for his wife’s support during his campaign that he’s buying her a rare rhodium and diamond ring that costs $30,000. I love jewelry as much as the……
December 2, 2008 at 12:33 pm
well the Obama campaign were head over heals about McCain’s $600 shoes, and a Presidential candidate needs strong soft shoes. this is a huge waste, and contradicts Obama’s retoric.
December 2, 2008 at 1:15 pm
The story is not true. Free publicity for the ring maker though.

Donations can be made here:

To hillbuzz, I am passing this on to you hoping that we can get a lot of people to view it and donate to this appearing on TV!
December 2, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Expect more of the same in the years to come if the messiah last that long.
The way the birth certificate scandal is consuming web pages it might be months before the Kenyan is gone.
These rings usually appear after a huge infidelity scandal in the marriage. Kobe Bryant comes to mind.
December 2, 2008 at 5:40 pm
John, no matter how much lipstick you put on a pig,it’s still a pig. MOO-Bama is not attractive. That’s a fact. It’s not opinion,it’s a fact. It has nothing to do w/her physical looks. It has to do w/the way she carries herself. It’s the way she dresses. It’s her remarks…and lest we forget, her anger.
December 2, 2008 at 6:11 pm
And So Says, look at what you have done. You have eliminated whatever ground you had.
wow…and this is part of the reason why HRC didn’t win and Obama did. You decry one approach and then you immediately undertake that EXACT approach. Sexism is alive and well.
Lets practice what you are doing replacing names
1) John, no matter how much lipstick you put on a pig,it’s still a pig. Hillary is not attractive. That’s a fact. It’s not opinion,it’s a fact. It has nothing to do w/her physical looks. It has to do w/the way she carries herself. It’s the way she dresses. It’s her remarks…and lest we forget, her anger.
so, people don’t like pantsuits and Hillary likes them. So, I can call her ugly, not based on her physical looks.
2) I didn’t think that the depression of your choice not winning would last this long. that is crazy as well. Wake up and join the rest of us. You don’t like the choice? Then get out and rally your choice for president and get started now! Your childish ad-homs only galvanize the opposition.
December 2, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Jealous huh?
December 2, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Beauty comes from within, and has no real bearing on looks, male or female, it only enhances what is there. Ugly also comes from within, but unlike beauty it only exacerbates the flaws. When ugly is the driving force of a person’s being, people can’t help seeing all the scabs and scratches. For me, beauty is not how someone’s features make them appealing to the eye; it’s how their being virtually projects their inner self and that good from within. By the same token, ugly is not about looks, but about the inner hate and ugliness of the person that shines through.
December 2, 2008 at 7:31 pm
It’s one thing to try to pass off falsehood as fact, but why then link to a story that disputes your own claim? Do you even bother to read the stories you link to? You’ll notice the story says Obama isn’t buying the ring. I suspect the jeweler is trying to drum up some publicity.

Who is this Obot John? Why is he always the first to post? And never a nice comment. Hey, John – wouldn’t your time be better spent elsewhere where you find things more agreeable? Why come here and get so haughty? Why do you make it your mission to enlighten us to all things great about Obama? Your effort is not wanted nor appreciated here.
Let us just ignore him. It’s funny to see a fool talks to himself.
December 2, 2008 at 8:54 pm
Alex, he’s just a resident troll, if it’s not fed it will eventually go away after, as you said, the fool talks to himself for a while.
December 2, 2008 at 9:26 pm
I want to know why it looks so thick and mannish. I mean the ring, not Michelle. Well, now that I mention it…
December 3, 2008 at 1:15 am
Oh wow, Gawker—the fountain of truth! Before I read about 0’s ring here I read about it in the Times of London, the Evening Telegraph, the Guardian I believe…John is just another 0bot who learned about the Big Lie from the modern master, our Zero-elect. If you said something, SAY YOU DIDNT. If you didn’t say something, SAY YOU DID. Say, “As I’ve said many times…”
December 3, 2008 at 1:37 pm
John, you speak the truth to these pigs. Michelle only feels sorry for them. She has so much more going for her than the sick bunch who gather here to vomit.
December 3, 2008 at 1:38 pm
John and I both recognize how much fun it is to tease sick people.
December 3, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Michelle O is a skank and an angry, ungracious hag. She lacks class and panache, and is undoubtedly as dishonest in her professed ‘love of people’ as is Obama. Mindless bots like John and Sharon hang out together because low intelligence – like water – seeks its own level.
December 3, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Hahahahaha
Hatefulness, and bitterness won’t win you friends, nor will it influence people. Nor will jealousy.
As for Michelle Obama, our lovely, gracious, intelligent, and thoughtful First Lady, she just prays for creatures like you. You are so so so beneath her. I like what she said to Larry King, “those things don’t bother us. We know who we are.”
And that’s that!
December 3, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Hatefulness won’t win you friends, nor will it influence people. Stop being so bitter. God doesn’t like ugly.
December 3, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Michelle Obama is a beautiful, intelligent, gracious First Lady. She and her husband exemplify all that is good in America.
You pitiful folks represent all that is sad in America. Start living. Get help for the bitterness.
December 3, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Someone who refers to someone else as a “skank” and a “hag,” and then talks about “class and panache”–now that’s funny! Not classy, of course, but funny.
December 3, 2008 at 10:22 pm
James you are so right! What these people say reveals so much about them and about the people who spawned them. No class, no dignity.
All bitterness,envy, and hate.
