Some notes on Lieberman’s speech, live as we watch it…

How weird is it to see Lieberman at the Republican Convention?

As weird as anything else this year.

Never thought we’d be watching the Republican Convention, or watching Lieberman speak at the Republican Convention, which we are watching. We half expect cats to start chasing dogs and it to start snowing on the Fourth of July. This is truly BizarroWorld.

We have to admit, in the interest of full disclosure, that we were angry with Lieberman back in 2006. We didn’t get it when he fought the Democratic party, and insisted on running as an Independent when the party tried to crush him and end his career. But, Lieberman stood up to those fools, and was the first major Democrat to stand up and shout that the Democratic Party as we knew it had been hijacked and overrun by fools.

It took us two years to catch up with Lieberman, but are right there with him now.

We agree with him: McCain is the candidate who puts this country first, who moves beyond political parties and holds to his personal code, to do what’s right regardless of the political consequences.

Lieberman talks about McCain working for campaign finance reform, for aid to affected areas after 911, and ending paralysis in Washington over court appointments. McCain gets it. McCain has accomplishment.

Lieberman tells us all not to be fooled — no matter what the SoetorObama campaign lies about, McCain is his own man, and is no clone of anyone else.

McCain took on corrupt Republican lobbyists, he took on his own party. Lieberman said that if McCain is just another politician, then Lieberman’s Michael Moore’s favorite Democrat. That one got a big laugh.

Eloquence is no substitute for a record of accomplishment — not in these times facing America.

Lieberman notes that SoetorObama has never reached across party lines and has never taken on Democratic party lobbyists: in contrast to what John McCain has achieved. Lieberman notes that Bill Clinton stood up to his own party, reached across party lines, achieved welfare reform and a balanced budget. So, Democrats can do this, but SoetorObama chooses not to.

Lieberman calls Palin a reformer, another person who reaches across party lines. She is a leader who McCain can count on to shake up Washington. That’s why Lieberman sincerely believes the real ticket for Change this year is McCain/Palin.

Washington bureaucrats and power brokers will not be able to build a pen to hold in these two mavericks.

What America needs now is national unity, not party unity. We need to put the country above all parties. We are a nation at war and need a president who will fight for what’s right for the country, not when it’s easy, but when it’s hard. McCain has the strength to sound the alarm when we are making mistakes, when others want to retreat from the field of battle, when people like SoetorObama want to cut off funding for troops on the battlefield, McCain stands against the tide of public opinion and support the Surge — so all those troops can now come home in honor, since the Surge worked.

Lieberman traveled the world with McCain — he is respected and liked by leaders around the globe, someone our allies will trust and our enemies will fear. THAT is the kind of president we need in today’s world.

Big cheers for that one.

Lieberman speaks directly to Democrats and Independents — many are angry and frustrated by government. Many people might think about voting McCain, but are not sure. Many never voted Republican before — but this is no ordinary election. These are not ordinary times. McCain is no ordinary candidate. You may not agree with McCain on every issue, but you can count on him to be straight with you and to stand for what he believes is best for this country — count on him to be a restless reformer to clean up Washington and get our government working again for all the American people. So, tonight, Lieberman asks Independents, Reagan Democrats, Clinton Democrats, or just plain Democrats to vote for the person who is best for the country, and not just blindly for the party you belong to.

HUGE CHEERS

Lieberman asks you to vote for a leader who, since the age of 17, has always put America first. Independents, Democrats, and Republicans should come together to make a great American patriot like John McCain our next president.

We agree 100%.

We just can’t hand this country over to SoetorObama and all the lunatics he surrounds himself with.

We trust McCain/Palin. It all boils down to that.
