Barack Obama’s “bitter” pill is going to be tough to swallow — much more so for his core constituents than for the glib, polished presidential aspirant.
But strip away Mr. Obama’s image and eloquence — which has seemingly mesmerized the media — and what’s revealed is the arrogance of an unapologetic, full-bore liberal.
Oh, he seemed to be duly concerned and compassionate about residents while campaigning in Pennsylvania. Yet this is what the front-runner for the Democrats’ nomination had to say in reference to Pennsylvanians at a San Francisco fundraiser:
“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
Worse than his words were Obama’s actions, first in defending his comments — “what everybody knows is true” — and then regretting if his word choice had offended anyone. If Hillary Clinton doesn’t knock this hanging curve ball out of the park, she may as well retire her bat.
What Obama dished out was a cold, stinging slap, and not just to Pennsylvanians but to Americans across the country. Citizens of this republic don’t “cling” to guns or to God out of any bitterness but with firm conviction in their rights as spelled out in the U.S. Constitution.
And they care more about those rights, Senator, than about your presumptuous pander, which now is plain for all to see.
