“Cain vs UnAble”
This is a bumper sticker you can get from Herman Cain’s website.
I’ve been an admirer of Herman Cain for several years, since I heard him substitute for Bill Bennett on Dr. Bennett’s radio show “Morning in America”. We are always hearing that someone “speaks from his heart”. Herman Cain speaks from his brain, and when asked a question, he answers THAT question. Several of my favorites of his responses to debate questions have begun “Let’s first define the problem”. Herman Cain is a clear thinker. He’s been very successful in the business world, and his successes are not due to affirmative action, but instead, to the hard work that Herman Cain has done to achieve those successes.
Followers and admirers of Sarah Palin should take a look at Herman Cain. I’ve liked Governor Palin since her nomination for V.P. in 2008. I saw her at an event when she was out in California, and thought she was clear, bright, focused, and genuine. She is an upbeat, happy individual who loves her life and her family, is very strong in her faith, and believes in and loves America. I thought she was much smarter than she was ever given credit for, and had a boatload of experience and positive results, all of which, I think, qualified her for the office for which she was nominated (I won’t even go into the LACK of qualifications of the man who currently occupies the White House). The hypocrisy of those on the left who decided on day one that she was to be belittled, disregarded, ridiculed, and ultimately destroyed, was staggering. They elected to the Presidency, a man who had accomplished nothing at all during his life other than being elected, while continually beating the drum about how unqualified Sarah Palin was to even occupy our planet.
Now that Governor Palin has announced that she will not be a candidate, I know there are legions of people feeling adrift. I urge them to look at Herman Cain. Go to YouTube and watch some of his recent speeches, debates, and interviews. (For those with an interest, he also has a beautiful baritone singing voice and you can find a very moving video about 9/11, with Herman Cain singing “God Bless America” in the background). He has a remarkable clarity when he speaks. Answers have a beginning, middle, and an end, and make sense. His responses do not come off as though he is addressing crowds at the coliseum (surrounded by styrofoam Greek columns), but rather as actual answers to the questions being asked, and solutions to problems that exist.
His “9-9-9” tax plan makes sense to me. He proposes to end the payroll tax, end capital gains tax, end the death tax, and replace them with a 9% Business Flat Tax, a 9% Individual Flat Tax, and a 9% National Sales Tax. (For details see http://www.hermancain.com/999plan). As a businessman, he understands that our economy thrives when businesses thrive, and that uncertainty in the economy causes businesses to be cautious, lay off workers and/or not hire, not invest in growth, and in far too many cases, relocate their companies (and thus, their jobs) overseas. This is madness, and is dragging our economy down. It will only continue under Barack Obama. Herman Cain believes we have to create conditions under which private businesses, large and small, will have the confidence that they can grow their companies without being demonized and penalized with taxes and punitive regulations. It will take a seasoned, successful businessman to dig our country out of the business-killing hole it has been thrust into. Academics who have done nothing in the business world, but have gone to school, gotten several degrees, and have been appointed to the President’s cabinet based on no real-world experience, have proven to be anathema to preserving our economic strength. Theory alone cannot replace experience.
Herman Cain proposes to bring America back to its position of strength in the world by supporting our military and ending the decimation that is currently being done to them. He believes in the strength and greatness of America and Americans, and wants to see us once again be the great, powerful, respected nation that we always have been. He sees the damage that has been done these past 20 months and vows to reverse that damage. He believes there is a total lack of leadership in the White House right now and he promises to provide that leadership.
Herman Cain is grateful to America for the opportunities he has had in his lifetime, that have enabled him to become the successful man he is. And he shows that gratitude by excelling and striving to continue to be a success. His father raised him to understand that he was not a victim. Any racial issues he was subjected to as he was growing up (and he was), did not cause him to curl up, whine, and blame everything on others. He does not have a chip on his shoulder over the discrimination his grandparents, his parents, and he and his brother may have suffered in the past. He truly overcame those issues by rising above them and working hard. He is not filled with rage, anger, bitterness, hatred for whites, or resentment for anyone more successful. Herman Cain is a happy, fulfilled man. He loves his life, loves his family, has very strong faith in God, and believes in and loves America.
Isn’t it time we had a president who reminds us what a great people we are, and what a great country America is? Not someone telling us we have “gotten soft”, or to “stop whining”, to “take off our bedroom slippers and put on our boots”, or reprimanding people for their success. Not someone telling us we can’t have our thermostats at a comfortable temperature anymore, or can’t continue to go out to dinner, or we should stop going to Las Vegas. Not someone telling us of the evils of America, telling us we aren’t and can’t be a great country, that Americans are selfish (Michelle Obama said this), that we need to strive to be like European countries, that we all need to sacrifice, that we need to “share the wealth”, and that we just don’t measure up to his standards. We don’t deserve to be treated like children who are disappointing their parents.
Americans deserve better than a dour, above-it-all scold in the White House. Herman Cain is a pleasant, upbeat, positive presence. He would bring back “Morning in America.”
I encourage Americans to stop listening to the media mantra that Herman Cain is “unelectable”. Only the voters can determine that and only on election day 2012.
I don’t know who the Republican nominee will ultimately be. I’m still doing my research on the candidates. Please do your own research. But include Herman Cain on your list of candidates that you research.

While the 9-9-9 plan seems good I think that is a poison pill in that it establishes a federal VAT. Remember that when the income tax was implement back in 1916 it was minimal. And look what it is has become. Once the foot gets in the door it is hard to get out. Would rather see reforms to the existing tax structures rather than introducing a new class of tax for the Feds. Too much potential for mischief in the future.
A VAT is not the same thing as a sales tax. A VAT is applied during the manufacturing process (invisible to the consumer) while a sales tax is applied only at the point of sale to the consumer and is clearly shown on the sales receipt. In Texas, food and medicine are always exempt from the state sales tax and, once a year in August, most clothing and school supplies are exempted as well to allow parents to equip their children for the school year tax free. I believe this can work on the national level as well.
This is true. A VAT is like a hidden sales tax, because it increases the cost of goods, but is not reflected on your receipt as a tax. At least a sales tax is a tax that you can see. A VAT is a way of making consumers think that businesses are paying the taxes instead of them. In reality, that tax is just passed along to the consumer in the cost of the product. I don't know if a 9% sales tax is the best answer, but I'd take a sales tax over a VAT any day.
Living in CA I know too well what happens with Sales Taxes. After the Northridge Earthquake a 'temporary' one year one cent add-on was passed in 1994. Well 17 years later that one cent add-on is still there. On top of the all the rest. In some counties sales taxes are nearly 11%. Add a 9% Fed sales tax (to start, mind you) on top of that and you are talking 20%. Yikes! The poor in CA are going to be a hell of lot poorer. Like I said, better to reform the existing tax structures rather than give the Feds another class of taxation.
This IS a reformation of the current Federal tax structures! I pay a little over 20% Federal income tax, plus 12.5% payroll tax, plus taxes on dividends and interest. Plus my boss pays even more in taxes for employing me. I say all that traded for 18% total Federal taxes on me and a possible RAISE from the boss sounds pretty damned good. I can control MY spending, and therefor my sales tax – the government CAN'T! BTW – Cain's sales tax does not apply to used goods. If you can't swing the tax, buy used cars and see what's available at the consignment shops, antique shops, and the pickers' shops. Deals can be had.
A VAT distorts the structure of production less but it forces producers to rat on each other.
Only specific sales taxation can be paid by the consumers; general taxes aren't, and as a consequence it doesn't matter whether they appear on the bills.
Kevin, I could not disagree with you more. Herman Cain was for Tarp before he was against it. Herman Cain worked for the Federal Reserve and does not believe it needs to be audited. Herman Cain believes in Affirmative Action. Herman Cain has not held any political office and lost the only race he ran. Herman Cain, as far as I can determine is a stalking horse for Romney. He may give a great speech, but… that’s not the whole picture. He may have a resume a mile long with impressive degrees to match; however, anyone remember a chap by the name of Herbert Hoover? Look him up, you might see some similarities between him and Cain. Cain, in my eyes is no different than Obama in this regard: neither have a record that they could run on. If Palinites jump onto the Cain bandwagon out of grief and loss, IMO it’s a mistake. If the guilt-ridden Republicans jump on the Cain bandwagon to prove they’re not racists, which is how it feels to me, more the pity. Yes, I was a major Palin supporter ~ this is the very first post I’ve posted anywhere. I do not know who I will support, but I darned sure know who I will not EVER: Perry, Cain, Bachmann, Romney, Paul, Hunstman or Santorum. That leaves Gingrich or Johnson. Right now I’ll take either one over the rest of the group, by far preferring Johnson. It’s a horrific shame Palin dropped out of contention and I’m not sure I’ll get over it in my lifetime. If that seems dramatic, so be it. Dramatic times call for dramatic emotions.
I hear you. This might help. Well worth the listen.
The Aftermath of Sarah Saying NO http://www.blogtalkradio.com/rodericdeane
So sorry Penny (and Kevin)… I don’t know why, but I thought the piece was written by Kevin. I even checked twice and didn’t see a byline which is why I assumed it was his piece. So… technically, I disagree with you, Penny, and not Kevin.
What consistently amuses me about this need for a "record" is that it is as malleable as the day is long. Herman Cain does have a record: He rescued Godfather's Pizza and a Burger King region from the brink of financial catastrophe. I imagine his work on the ballistics capabilities of the Navy was as a civil servant was also highly advanced and important work. He was also the Kansas CIty chair of the Federal Reserve Board (Cue Paul supporters going ape). No, he didn't kiss hands and shake babies like all of the candidates with a "record," but the idea Herman Cain is unqualified because he's not yet another political class hack who wants to tinker at the margins long enough to justify a second term is ridiculous.
Not to mention half of your post is a deliberate lie, in that Herman Cain does want to audit the Federal Reserve and alter monetary policy. I know it may seem odd to the libertarians, but sometimes when you work for an organization closely you get the distinct impression that some of the aspects of that organization need fixing. Now sure, if it happens, those who have been shouting about it from the outside will claim it is vindication for all their years of loud, low-information shouting, but to dismiss someone because they've worked in a particular agency you think is the death of America is foolish.
I can do without the drama. I can respect that Gary Johnson was governor of New Mexico, but he's basically a weaker version of Ron Paul and their constituencies overlap somewhat. At least he wasn't an Obama employee like Huntsman.
I’ve been a Ron Paul supporter for years. And I love Gary Johnson. But I also love Herman Cain. I’ve been listening to him as a fill-in host for libertarian talk-show host Neal Boortz for years.
There is no perfect candidate. There NEVER will be. But we Libertarians CANNOT allow the government-controlled media to splinter us away from the rest of the Anti-Obama Coalition. If Herman Cain wins the nomination, I’ll vote for him in a heartbeat.
Deliberate lie? Pfft. I’ve watched him speak on the Fed specifically, and everything in his tone, body language and words tells me what I need to know about Cain and his personal connection to the Fed. I shared my reasons and personal opinion for not jumping on the Cain bandwagon without resorting to personal insults. Too bad you couldn’t muster up the same courtesy.
